Emily’s POVI couldn’t remember when I fell asleep after waking up from the nightmare, but a knock on the door woke me up.It was the King and behind him was a maid a different one from yesterday and she was younger almost my age or Avery’s. She held a tray of breakfast, after dropping it off, she hurried away, returning with a pair of dresses in hangers, dropping them off again, she hurried away.“How did you sleep?” He asked when we were finally alone. His tone made it clear that he wasn't asking because he cared, more like he was compelled to.“Good” He nodded understandingly before saying “You should do your thing, I’ll be back when I think you are done.” He stated while pointing at the breakfast, the clothes and what I had know yesterday to be the bathroom. He looked at me intently. No he was looking at whatever Father had left on my face. His eyes moved from face to my neck over and over again. My hair was behind me and I had forgotten about the marks around it. He moved closer
Emily’s POV“Shall we “He pointed to our seats as I was still standing. The only sound that could be heard in the minute that followed was the contact of our cutlery with the plates and maybe our chewing and swallowing.“So both of your parents are dead?” I didn't need anyone to tell ms he dug about me, the thought of him invading my personal life annoyed me greatly that I could feel my chest throb from the pain and I could have my wolf snare from anger.“Yes” it was low.“Oh, I can barely hear you”“Yes!” I howled.“And you worked in the brothel as a slut?”The anger that flowed through my veins was indescribable, I wanted to pluck out every feature from his Greek-god like looking face, scratch out his eyes, and feed them to him.A snarl escaped my throat, he must have sensed my anger too.“What? I just want to be sure is that too much?” He insisted stubbornly.Fuck him!My face fell and my vision felt blurry, it was because the tears were threatening to fall. What was happening to
Emily’s POVIt wasn't long before I knew people didn't like me, the maids would snicker whenever they saw me around, and even those who hadn't disliked me at first, now seemed to be treating me differently. They wouldn't look at me like I was even worth a grain of rice and if they caught me looking at them, they were quick to turn away and act as though I hadn't been there before, or else. I had become so used to it by now, that sometimes my body just moved on autopilot, and I could barely keep track of what was happening. It was officially a week since I got here and after the incident, the King hadn't approached me and I was fine with us staying out of each other’s way.But I needed to leave this place, everything was driving me crazy.I had taken a walk in the garden and surprisingly, no one stopped me but I could swear the guards were paying attention more than they should have been. It was getting ridiculous I couldn't wait until I was free. Maybe then, something would go r
Luka’s POVThere was something about her that just seemed to irritate the hell out of me, she always found a way to put me in a bad mad mood - and it wasn't just my own temperamental nature. It was like I had lost all semblance of control over the world around me, as though some kind of cosmic entity had taken it upon itself to make fun of me for no reason other than how annoyed it made me. My eyes flicked up from the book in front of me to glare at the small window next to me, where there were two birds perched on a branch outside looking as if they were ready to take flight at any moment. The moon was shining brightly overhead, but the sky appeared cloudless. And not just that - when I looked down at the book I could see it glowing dimly with some kind of weird glow. There was no light reflecting off of it whatsoever. The glow looked almost magical, and my breath hitched in my throat. It felt almost like magic - maybe I was seeing things but what was worse my wolf growling and s
Emily’s POVThe guard threw me into the dungeon and I heard the door slam shut with a bang as the heavy steel bar slammed into place behind my back. I was alone in the darkness for the first time in days. It was an unappealing, dank room that smelled like urine and sweat and fear.Everything was pitch black.“Please let me out of here” I turned immediately banging at the door . The bars were thick metal bolted together, but it was no use - they wouldn’t budge. They couldn’t be more secure anywhere else. “Let me go! Let me go… please!”My voice grew louder and my heart pounded in my chest as I banged frantically against my cage. It echoed around in my head making my headache worse. “Why… why are you doing this to me?” I felt tears prickling at the corners of my eyes. My throat tightened and my breath became shaky. I tried not to cry. But I couldn’t help myself. “Let me out…” I whimpered and sobbed quietly. Nothing, the only thing I got in return was the echo of my voice running t
Luka’s POV“Alfred, tell Claire to get the girl ready for tonight “ I ordered but Alfred looked at me as if I had grown a pair of horns without moving from where I was sitting on my bed “What girl? What are you talking about?” he asked while crossing his arms over his chest and almost looking sternly at me. I frowned at him for a moment wondering if he was fooling around.“Emily”He still didn’t move, he stared at me silently as if he was debating with himself what he should do or say next, but then finally sighed and shrugged.“She is still in the dark dungeon”“What do you mean by that?”“She is a prisoner. You sent her there, remember?”It dawned on me. How could I forget? How many days has it been? I was too busy with the endless meetings I had been having with the council. It's been five days!“Let's go,” I told him leading the way, I was certain that she must have learned enough lessons. My wolf growled angrily at me. It had been happy since I made that decision but I didn't pa
Luka’s POVThe pack doctor came out of her room looking so sad and it made me wonder if something bad had happened to Emily. Something worse than what I had done to her. Was she dead? No, she was still alive and breathing which meant whatever had happened hadn’t been that fatal…Right? “How is she?” I asked him immediately - I commanded him. He knew how serious my question was. “She looks awful… not awake yet but she will be fine,” he said sympathetically and his expression reminded me of weakness and it made sense now why I hated some of them sometimes because their faces were so expressive they looked like they had hearts. I didn't have a heart, it died a long time ago.It died when she died. I wasn't supposed to think about her I quickly reminded myself and pushed the thought far.I was about to leave him and return to her room, knowing fully well that Alfred will take care of the rest.“Your majesty?” the doctor called out suddenly.I turned around. The doctor was frowning at
Luka’s POVThe more she was chanting, the more Emily’s once-resting face contoured in pain . Every once in a while, tears fell from her eyes and the lines on her face were becoming visible under the thin layer of sweat. The healer didn’t seem to notice, however. Her attention was focused entirely upon the world beyond here, beyond us. I had no idea what she was saying or how long it lasted but Emily looked like she hadn’t moved a single inch. Even though I could hear and smell the faint traces of her pain and agony. As the last words faded away, the healer closed her eyes and her lips moved silently for the longest time. Finally, the healer smiled as she stood up and moved with the bowl to Emily’s bed and began to smear whatever she had mixed in that bowl on Emily’s body .She spread the mixture over every single part of Emily’s body.Emily’s eyelids fluttered slightly. The healer continued to work on her, applying the paste in various places of the body, moving her arms and legs.
