After a lot of yawns and shorts naps in the air conditioned hall, Orientation ended and everyone rushed out of their seats as if it was on fire, A common act to show the appreciation of bells and end of class by students to the professor's.
Irene stayed with me as I fixed my hair that had fallen out of my ponytail and got rid of my sleep, that professor was boring on a whole new level. He truly was a masterpiece.
We left last, Irene and I had managed to take so much time to get out of the hall that even the hallways were now almost empty. If it weren't daylight I would be afraid of ghosts of past students lurking in the corners having a gala time, simply because I was afraid of the dark and liked light more.
"Want to grab something to eat?" I asked her, my growling stomach added to the desperation in my voice and after having a good laugh at me she agreed to go to the cafeteria with me.
Because classes hadn't started yet most of the students were hanging around making new friends and forming groups, some of the clichè could already be seen, like the bunch of cheerleader like girls in the corner, bulky muscle guys with similar goodies on and the rim glassed nerds whith checker shirts.
They were all sitting in small groups of their own and it was funny already. It was only eleven now and there was still the whole day to go through, we had so much time to kill it was almost new to me.
Back at highschool all we would get was a weekend and that was it, and to make those short weekends miserable the teachers would happily pile up months worth of homework for us to complete in that tiny amount of time and expect us to be in a jolly mood on mondays. It may sound like an old 1900's dialogue, but Partying and going out with friends was like a dream back then.
Uni was proving to be amazing so far, my roommate was the most important thing that had to be good. Because I had to stay with her in a single room for three years straight and if she turned out to be a hater then we will have problems. I would prefer someone who keeps it to themselves and not poke their leg in my business. Nosey roommates are the worst.
Cafeteria was easy to locate in comparison to the study halls, mostly because there was so much noise coming from behind those double doors, it was hard not to locate it.
Cafeteria was smack in the middle of the buildings, in the map it was a big rectangular space that read cafeteria in bold, a large space with big windows, huge double doors and cafe like circle tables surrounded by chairs. It was clean but noisy, which was expected for a cafeteria since it's filled with hot blooded teenagers and it's the place where all the action takes place.
We spotted an empty table by the corner and claimed our domain on it by placing our bags and went to the front where eatables were on a display.
Unlike what I had heard, the food items looked edible to me. I didn't have time to eat anything in the morning so my appetite had skyrocketed and my stomach had expanded to accomodate heaps of unhealthy cafeteria food.
So I ordered a lot of things and with the help of ever so helpful Irene we brought them back to our table, where a person was now seated.
I gasped in surprise almost dropping the precious chicken nuggets in the process. I recognised the dark shirt and the same dark book bag, and that unforgettable face looking at me with an unreadable expression, his eyes were set in a mild glare but the rest of his face was set like a stone statue - unmoving.
My eyes narrowed slightly as I set everything one by one on the table, he didn't make any move to get up and find another table, which would have been a normal reaction for anyone.
Instead he leaned his elbows on the white clothed table and intensified his glare ten folds.
"Excuse me? This is our table, please find another for yourself." I said as nicely as I could, although this guy was attractive and all that desirable it didn't make him a good human being, there was space for bad in everyone and by the look of it he had bad written all over him.
He shook his head and dare I say, he took one of my Chipotle chicken pops and popped it in his mouth like he owned it. He reached out for another one but my hands worked on their own accord and I caught his wrist before he could get to them.
"How dare you!" I hissed, the nonchalant face of his was only raising my temperature and taking my food was the last straw.
He pulled his hand back lightly but the force was so much that I barely caught myself from falling, I held onto the back of his chair, my face next to his and my hair covering the both of us.
"You owe me a coffee Miss, it was an expensive one." The nameless guy whispered into my ear, at first I didn't get him because it was just a random statement to make, however, when the early morning incident flashed before my eyes I couldn't help but gasp in horror.
It was him!
Oh good heavens, what did I do?!
I had to get out of this mess or my University years would be damaged beyond repair, even before actually starting. So, I decided to be clueless and asked in a soft scared voice, "What?"
"Cut the act, Aelin."
What. The. Actually. Nuggets!
How in the world did he know my name? As far as I remember the only people in this whole campus who know my name are Irene, her roommate and the office staff but we all know the staff doesn't bother with remembering names so that tones it down to two.
"Are you stalking me for a cup of coffee?"
"It's more than a coffee homie. Let's see if we can survive this year." He brushed his lips over the tips of my ear, my face turned red and hot at the mere touch and that's when I realised that the cafeteria had gone quiet and the distance between our faces was almost non existent.
With a shallow yelp, I detached myself from him and brushed myself of the imaginary dust, his cool self stood up gracefully and swung his bag on one shoulder and with the other hand in his jeans pocket left the cafeteria in style.
God, do you still make people like him?
A few minutes of awkward staring from the crowd and everything went back to normal, well, as normal as it could be. I had screwed over my University days even before they actually started and I had a feeling that stranger guy was going to hold a strong grudge over his spilled coffee and damaged clothes.
Yup, I was screwed.
"What am I supposed to do now?"I popped another chicken pop in my mouth and chewed slowly to get all the flavour, Irene nibbled on her bread sticks while staring at me like an investigator looks at a criminal."What are you looking at?""What kind of luck you were born with? It's bad." She said, I slumped back on my chair and pulled at the ends of my hair in frustration."Not even a week in and you already started making enemies, you are something special.""A cup of coffee! Ah! That stupid black bean! I don't even know his name!" I exclaimed. My actions caught many people's attention but I could care less, I needed to get out and sort things out with him and get a breather. My Brian seemed to be blocked and my limbs didn't work as usual around him though, it was both stupid and horrifying to think.I nodded to myself and decided
"Suits you," I whispered quietly to myself, I've actually never heard that name anywhere but it suits his face and personality perfectly."What?" He asked. Now he was sitting up on the bed with hands on either sides and head down. He looked up for a second and then dropped again. He looked tired and like those gangsters who threaten people for money by barging in their homes, only gangsters weren't as gorgeous as him.I extinguished that though as soon as it entered by brain and quickly thought of something to blurted out, "Now that we are past the stage of knowing each other's names, I think it's time we settle other issues.""Like?"I smiled, "Rules.""What's up with you and your rules?" He made a stupid face that showed his distaste for regulations.Well, the world wouldn't be functioning without some sort of control, my roomie. Rebellious peop
He was still there.Like a spider he was hanging halfway down the bed that was barely his size, tangled in blanket and mouth hanging open for all sorts of bugs to have a house party. Even after all the variables he still had the audacity to look good, like how is that even possible? Unless some powerfully being up there is making it impossible for him to look remotely bad.The curtains were still drawn together and little beams of light seeped through it, that means I didn't sleep through the day and there was still some time for me to be productive before I retire to sleep again.I left the room as it was because Laurent was still sleeping and attempted to carry him up on the bed again simply because I'm a good person and don't want to hear him whine about pain later on. By the time I was sucessful on dragging his leg up, I was ready to give up, he was that heavy."Good enough. Sweet dreams.
There wasn't much to say after we left the dorm, it was late afternoon so the hallways were empty and quiet. Good, no one will see me with him.Don't get me wrong, I'm not embarrassed to be seen with him. Infact he's a sight to see but I have a boyfriend and he's a popular boy about whom rumours spread faster than wild fire.I know I was just avoiding the inevitable but let's live in peace as long as we can, shall we?Since I didn't have a car and Laurent didn't object we had to take the bus to the local market place that had good places to eat. Assuming he was following after me I passed the gates and started walking towards the closest bus stop.A loud honk startled me and I turned around just in time to see a cool car stop right in front of me. The shiny white surface of the car looked so expensive and new that it could be considered a crime to touch it.The window r
"Where are you from?" I asked as he drove off back to the campus after out little lunch out. He was being tolerable now compared to what he was before and I could see our friendship blooming in the near future, that is if he doesn't go back to being the brooding black bean that he was when we first met."Hell." He answered simply, I couldn't say wheather he was being sarcastic or he had actually sprouted from the darkest pit of hell."Woah, really?""Hmm."He didn't ask me anything but I didn't expect him to, from what I've known about him it was clear he was one of those who kept things to himself and didn't bother with others matters. With beautiful songs playing on the radio the ride back was nice, he was silent and so was I. It was a comfortable silence that enveloped us. Soon we reached our campus and I waited for him while he parked the car, it was surprising how
Four days passed and I am not ready for classes to start. Bed sounded much more comfortable than desks and the pillow did more good to my head than the boring lectures. But Laurent had different ideas, for the past two hours he has been bustling around like a bee getting ready for the first day of University."Aelin! If you don't wake up in the next five minutes you will be late."I chose not to respond and snuggled deeper into the blanket that provided me protection from all things evil, it was a perfect day to sleep in and do nothing but it was also the day to get out and attend class and make new friends. How nice."Aelin!" He shouted in my ear and I screamed in fright, bouncing up on the bed. Laurent chuckled and went back to fixing his hair leaving me there to calm my poor heart and take a breath. My ears were ringing from the assault on them, I will have pay him back for the unwanted favour s
He took me to the cafeteria. That was his definition of someplace nice, huh.Laurent has better taste then him, even the ice-cream parlour that he chose was of a good quality. Not to compare bit Michael had always been a penny pincher, even though he lacked nothing.Big house, big cars and house staff running around at his beck and call. And yet, he had me pay at many occasions when we went out. I used to think it was normal but now that I think of it he would always order expensive dishes and when it was his turn to spend he would get simple thing, all his bad qualities were surfacing only now."What is it?" I asked sitting opposite to him on the table. My leg was bouncing in anticipation."What? I can't talk to my girlfriend?" He chuckled and reached out to hold my hand, I tried to smile but today it didn't reach to my eyes like it usually did in his presence.
I ran until my legs couldn't hold my weight anymore, I run until my tears freely dripped down my face and sobs broke me down.I fell on my knees and left my weak side show in the corner of an isolated playground. I was weak, that was the truth. I wasn't strong like the heroines in movies and stories, I was weak enough to be broken down by someone like Michael.I let myself fall back and drew my knees closer and sobbed into it for a long time, until my tears dried I cried. Until there was nothing left to pour for that person who hurt me in the worst way.Even after the difficulties I faced at home I kept my head up and met them with confidence, I had found my solace in him, making him my guardian angel and what he did?He found a replacement.Like a broken toy he threw me away when I didn't work for him anymore. I despised myself for investing so much of myself on someon
That night Laurent couldn't sleep. His mind played the conversation with Michael over and over again, troubling him. Laurent had enough of his games and wanted to just get this over with. But he had to get Michael up there willingly.Flashback to the conversation."Let's get straight to the point, why are you here?" Michael asked as soon as they were in a hidden corner of the hallway.Laurent casually leaned on the wall and clicked his tongue."I didn't want to be here either. I'm hating the job so far.""That's not my answer.""You are wanted up there, everyone is pissed at you. You are a fucker and they now realise it." Laurent smirked in triumph as he saw Michael's face getting red."Watch your mouth Laurent, don't forget who you are talking to."Laurent laughed amu
Aelin paced around the room waiting for her roommate, Laurent, to come back from the unexpected meeting with her ex-boyfriend.Half an hour had already passed and there was no sign of Laurent. In that half an hour Aelin had managed to finish two packets of chips and a can of soda. She shouldn't be worrying so much but something made her anxious for no reason. They were just teenage boys, not rival gangsters who would be pointing guns at each other's foreheads. But one thing in particular was nagging at the back of her mind. Judging by the way Michael was behaving after seeing Laurent, it looked like he knew him.Michael was angry that Laurent was her roommate and had also taken the liberty to come all the way to their dorm to talk to him about something that didn't concern her.
Together but silently we left the playground where he found me, I was hungry, since I had missed lunch so we made a quick stop to eat something then without delay went back to the campus.Because we were already late we decided to skip the rest of the day and stay in bed doing nothing, it was our favourite time pass and one of the only few things common in us and very effective when it came to improving our mood."I'll have to go shopping in the evening, we are out of few things and you finished the snacks again. How are you not fat?" Laurent complained looking at the almost empty snacks drawer. He pinned me with an accusing glare with the intention of making me feel guilty."Yeah, okay I'll buy this time as we decided." I mumbled hanging my head low.He sighed, "Let it be, you are going through a heartbreak so I'll buy this time. Want to watch a movie?""Why are you be
