Dozens of different wings, all mounted to the wall like trophies.

My eyes start to burn and I swallow the lump in my throat. “This is horrible,” I breathe.

“Yes, it is.”

Two hundred and seventy-three . . . two hundred and seventy-four . . . two hundred and seventy-five . . . two hundred and seventy-six. 276 days. That’s how long Luciana was in this cell. Every day she scratched another line on the wall. I thought it was a stupid and dramatic thing to do, but after a couple of weeks I realized it’s probably the only thing that can keep you sane when you’re sitting in a stone room in total isolation. I can’t believe how sadistic these assholes are. They put me in her old cell. It hasn’t even been cleaned. There’s blood smeared on the door and a sticky puddle in the corner. I feel bile rise in my throat when I realize the blood either belonged to Luciana, or they’ve succumbed other people to this torture. I suppose it had to be the latter. It's too damn fresh. My jaw clenches at the sound of the door hinges creaking. The guard angel stalks inside the cell, his painted blue wings held stiff and proud like the good little soldier he is. He takes the

"They didn't. They―they can't . . . it's not possible," I stammer."I'm so sorry," Diana whispers."No, they said they burned them—I don't—" My voice cracks and I suck in a sharp breath."Ana come on we need to get Daniel and get out of here," she urges.I take a deep breath and nod, swallowing hard. The boy is slowly stalking closer, but I look past him. Daniel's body lies in a heap on the floor. His chest barely rises and falls—but it's moving. The boy raises his hand and Diana screams, crumpling into a ball on the ground beside me. She covers her ears and squeezes her eyes shut.I roll my shoulders and let my wings unfurl. My gaze snaps back to the boy and my fingers twitch.Nothing happens. I take a small step back as panic starts to set in.Diana goes still and the boy turns to me with a smirk. He flicks his wrist but still nothing happens. This time it's my turn to smirk. "Looks like we're doing this the old-fashioned way," I mutter. His eyes widen. "Why can't I—""Those are my w

“You should just turn your property into a hospital,” I chuckle. “If you continue to be a moron, I may have to,” Logan mutters in annoyance. “Oh, come on I’m just trying to make sure you have something to do. I mean you must get bored as hell being out here by yourself, what do you even do?” “Nothing.” “Exactly.” He sighs, shaking his head. “Doing nothing is quite enjoyable. As is being alone.” “You don’t get tired of it?” I ask. “After your parents died, I did nothing for nearly ten years. Then you showed up here again and I can say my life has not improved.” I scowl. “Are you still mad that I brought Diana here?” “Yes. And I am upset that you injured yourself and caused your mate and your friend injury as well. Now you expect me to fix all three of you.” “I’m sorry, you’re just too good at it." He shakes his head, letting out an irritated sigh. “I am going to go hunting, don’t you dare get up,” he growls. My leg still throbs from when I did just that a few hours ago. “Bel

“Hold up,” Diana mutters, “Are you seriously saying that her father was the angel from the stories―the one that forced all of us to live on earth?” I look to Logan who nods. “The angel that also brought demons to earth?” Diana asks. Logan clears his throat a little and nods again, turning to me. “Yes. Everyone was terrified of him, everyone but your mother. The only reason your father was on the Council, was because she was the leader for decades. They thought her snow-white wings meant she was the purest of the angels and so they did whatever she said―but that was millennia ago, before dark angels were fully allowed to be in the council and long before either of you were even born.” "Sounds like a damn fairytale." “Wait so they’re trying to kill Luciana because she’s the super-evil, all-powerful spawn of the devil?” “Hey!” I growl. Logan sighs in annoyance. “Well if you knew the most terrifying angel in existence had a child, wouldn’t you want to kill it?” “I’m literally sitti

This is so stupid. He won’t care. He was upset before because I lied to him. Though he also shot me with a dart because he was scared of what I could do. Being Lucifer’s daughter doesn’t make me any more powerful. I don’t think. “You’re staring again.” Heat rushes to my cheeks and my gaze flicks up to his face. “I wasn’t staring, I was just lost in thought,” I murmur. He raises his eyebrow. “Are you okay?” I tell him I can't sleep. That's all. “Is your leg bothering you?” I pause for a moment before nodding. Daniel shifts a little beneath me, moving his arm out from under my legs. I lay sideways across his lap; he practically cradles me against his chest. My leg has to stay elevated so I tried to convince him to just sleep in his own room, but he insisted on staying with me on the couch. “Is there anything I can do to help?” he asks softly, running his hand along the side of my face. “I don’t think so,” I sigh. I try to readjust my position and gasp at the searing pain that

What. "He's my uncle?" I shriek. The demon's eyes flare and its fanged grin turns menancing. "How else would he be as powerful as he is? Your family is among the strongest angels to walk this Earth my queen." I can hear the blood rushing through my veins. I've had family this whole time and he was responsible for all the torture and suffering I had endured. All of these years and he never said a word to stop any of it. He watched his neice beg for her freedom and laughed. "Get some rest my queen, we will watch over you." I know it was meant to be comforting, but it honestly made my skin crawl. I don't like the idea of someone watching me, especially not while I'm sleeping. "I appreciate the thought, but maybe don't actually watch me," I mumble when those bright red eyes are still staring at me a few minutes later. The demon laughs, blinking slowly before slinking away to the edge of the cave. The fire burning brightly at the center of the cave casts horrendous shadows onto the wal

  • Angel Academy   Chapter Forty

I swear I can feel my feathers freezing. My wings seem to grow stiffer with each passing minute, and the scarf wrapped around my nose and mouth does practically nothing to protect me from the harsh wind. Icy crystals blow into my face and cut at every inch of exposed skin. I can barely see anything through the flurry of snowflakes but hope flares in my chest at the sight of a vague shadow in the white cloud. As I get closer, I sigh in relief. The rock wouldn't be much warmer but at least it would give me a little shelter against the storm. I find a small overhang in the rock formation—well, I suppose it's closer to a mountain. It's significantly colder up here and it's slowly getting harder and harder to breathe. I can instantly feel the rise in temperature as I finally escape the wind, but the chill in my bones lingers. I close my fist then spread my fingers, relaxing when a small fire springs to life on the rocky floor. I don't know if it will continue burning once I fall asleep

His eyes search my face. “You want to kill him don’t you?” “Tell me where he is,” I growl. “He’s more powerful than you Luciana,” he says, shaking his head. My lip curls upward. Had he not been bound and shivering and covered in blood and tears, I might have been concerned by his words. “Tell me where to find Michael,” I demand. His head bows and he keels over, coughing violently. I wait for him to finish shaking; blood dribbles down his front and splatters onto the floor. “He lives in the mountains.” I crouch down, my gaze locked on him. “Tell me more.” I listen intently to every single word he says. He seems to grow more weary as he describes the Council Leader’s home: a prison-like structure deep in the mountains, far from danger, far from enemies. Guarded by hundreds of angels. Protected by magic. Surrounded by miles of icy mazes. It sounds like an evil fortress straight out of a fiction novel. I sit back on my heels. “Anything else?” I ask. He shakes his head and goes sil

I was harshly awoken by shouting and the screech of metal on metal. I jerked upright, scrambling off the cot when I heard the familiar jingle of keys outside the door.“Hands on the wall!”I bit my tongue, trudging over to plant my hands on the stone. I heard the door squeak open and it took all of my self control to remain still as the guard yanked my hands behind my back and shoved my face against the wall.“You try an’ pull another stunt like ya did last time and they won’ even bother givin’ ya a trial—they’ll throw ya righ’ in the Cage,” he spat, locking the heavy chains around my wrists. He hauled me out of the cell none too gently. He pulled me by my arm so roughly I stumbled repeatedly as we made our way through the prison. The whines and moans of the other prisoners pierced my ears, making me bow my head and squeeze my eyes shut in a desperate attempt to block them out.
