“A-Amanda,” she says. I didn’t look at Dad, and I didn’t look away from Mom’s gaze.
Mariz clutched my arm with a tinge of pity on her face as I turned to her. I gave her a kind grin. She shouldn’t make such a face at me. In these times, I demand no mercy. That is why I would do it for her.
“Let’s go home now,” I said, biting my lower lip and nodding. “Marla and Mia are waiting at home.” I shifted my gaze to Mom and Dad, who were already lowering their head. Why are they unable to talk? Didn’t they expect me to come up with a means to repay their debt?
“I’ll be here tomorrow, and I’ll accompany you to De Mevius’ house. Please don’t bother my sisters anymore.” I dragged Mariz out of the house; it was already dark out on the road, and it was nice to have a tricycle to get home on. Mariz and I just sat quietly in the car till we arrived at our place. Marla was sitting up when we arrived, and when she spotted us, she leapt to her feet.
“It’s late; let’s talk this by tomorrow.” Marla was about to talk, but I cut her off. Yes, I am tired.
“Have you eaten yet? I left food for you guys,” she said.
“I’ve already eaten at work, so I’ll take a break.” I walked to my room because I ate little at work and didn’t have the energy or hunger to talk to my two sisters. I got little done today, but I’m exhausted. You thought you were hauling large objects, but I am simply burdening the entire world. I’m in too much pain.
When I entered the room, I went to my knees and sat on the floor, covering my lips to prevent myself from making a sound while crying. I don’t want the two to know that I’m going through a difficult time because every time they see me cry; they become weaker. I needed to be strong in front of them both, and in front of Mia, which is why I would do this. And, even though our parents are like way, I don’t want to upset them, so I’ll choose to be the poor one. I do not know what will happen in my life tomorrow or what the outcome of my sacrifice will be.
I awoke the next day with puffy eyes, so I avoided them completely. When they stare at me, they likewise say nothing.
“It’s Saturday, and you don’t have school; you’re simply here for a walk with Mom and Dad.”
“W-where are you going, sister?” Marla paused, Mariz and I exchanged glances,s, and then she bowed. She didn’t convey the story in its entirety.
“I’ll be right back today; we simply have something urgent to do.” She simply nodded and did not respond.
It’s best if they don’t know what will happen first the next time I tell them if this went well. It’s alright if Mariz tells Marla about it; that’s all.
I’ve already begun leaving the house for my parents. I didn’t have to dress because I knew I’d be there for a while, so I just wore a plain T-shirt and denim pants. Simply ask the De Mevius family. We were three of us, and I said nothing until we arrived at De Mevius’ estate. With the big house and many cars in the garage, I might consider them quite wealthy. “Fix yourself, Amanda,” When Mama spoke, I grimaced and turned to face her, even looking in the mirror. My clothing isn’t filthy at all.
“It’s all right,” I told her. It startled me when she drew me closer to her and then bound me with her hair tie. “Mom, my face is perfectly fine.”
“Even if you are presentable to face them, there are many people inside.” I gave a secret gaze. Does she think I like it? It’s as if she’s bullying me. No, I don’t like it.
I stepped inside discreetly as well, and the employees greeted Mama and Papa as if they had met before. And I do not know what it is. The assistants were staring at me as well. What exactly is there? They looked at me with judgment on their face.
“Amando, my friend!” I immediately looked at Byron’s father when I heard him shout to greet my father. How could I forget its face if he was the reason I discovered my family’s folly? “It’s great to see you and your gorgeous wife, Mariane, again.” I just stood there and watched them converse cheerfully; Dad had met Mr. De Mevius before.
When he turned to face me, he questioned, “Is this your daughter?” Mama drew me close to her to face the elderly man. “You look familiar. Have we met yet?” he asked with a grin on his face, which I was horrified by without realizing.
“Hey, come inside.” A woman approached us. “Is she Amanda?” Great, her size has altered, but her face remains the same. “I’m very sure I have seen her somewhere.” We most likely met in a restaurant.
“Good day,” I said, smiling and bowing respectfully. “We met the other day at the restaurant.”
“Right! It’s because of you that my son is enraged.” Someone irritated as well me.
“Did you do something to his son, Amanda?” Mama told me that Byron’s dad had just heard and had responded.
“He break a plate on my son Byron by accident,” he added.
Dad was going to say anything when three men, including Byron and someone I recognized, appeared from behind the old man.
“Is this the woman that our brother will marry?” asked by the man I recognized from the restaurant where they were eating the previous day, Byron. When he approached me, I backed away, and he was ready to grab me when he abruptly took a man’s hand away.
And to my surprise, the other guy grabbed the man’s hand away from me.
“All right, Brother Paul, take it easy.” I stared at the man named Paul, who had backed away with both hands up, and I was grateful if he had quickly left. What’s up, Paul? Is it what I used to play with, according to my father? Why do I have no recollection of anything?
“Stop it,” their father whispered. “I’m sure you’re familiar with my kid, Byron.” I gave him a non-emotional nod and turned to face Byron, who, like a stump, gave me a non-emotional nod. “First, let’s all sit down and discuss what needs to be discussed.”
With what he said, I immediately want to go home and back off. I was simply silently listening to our family’s conversation, and I wasn’t comfortable with Byron staring at me even when he wasn’t talking as if he would do something bad to me at any minute. Why am I afraid of him? He has a gentle, kind face, but I doubted if he also had a gentle attitude.
“The wedding will be soon as possible.” It took aback me when Byron’s mother said.
“Ma’am, as far as I know, I can be only a surrogate mother. Are we really going to marry each other?”
“Are you insane? Do you think I’ll go along with that? Do you wish to give birth to my child without the presence of a mother?” I was even more taken aback when Byron spoke up, and I wondered why he was so angry. He, too, does not want to marry.
“Honey, because it’s your family’s debt, you’ll not only give us a child, but you’ll also be our child’s wife.” They used the word debt again when I turned back to her mother.
“We’ll let you decide; what do you want?” To take refuge here.
“Amanda.” When Mom spoke, I came to a halt; she rose and drew me away. After saying her goodbyes, Dad walked over to chat with me.
“What are you thinking, Amanda? Didn’t you say you wanted to?” My Mom asked me.
“I don’t want to, Mom. But even if I think about it first,” I said, earning a frown from her.
“You decided last night, so you’re not permitted to back off. You said you will be the one who will pay for this instead of Mariz, right?” More enraged me.
“Go back there and say you’re going to keep going, and we’ll be damned if you don’t.” What about me? Don’t you suppose I’ll be condemned as well?
“All right, I’ll do that,” I gulped before nodding at them.
When I got back to them, the first thing I did was look at Byron, who was now staring at me as well. Something inside of me likes what I see in his eyes, but it’s not good for me. I’ll just stop paying this debt, and I might be stuck.
“OK, I will marry him”
Byron's two brothers came again. To my surprise, the one earlier who was naughty stood next to me. Paul also sat quietly next to Byron."By the way, I am Kenjo. Your handsome brother-in-law." I ignored him, and I wasn't in the mood to play with him. "Oh, little bro, your wife is rude ah." I looked at Byron when Kenjo said. He didn't look at his brother. "Both rugged," added the noisy Kenjo."Alright, Amando and Mariane, you can leave your daughter here. We'll call you when the wedding is over." What? Will you leave me?"Wait, Ma'am, why should I be left behind? II have to go home." I turned to Mom and Dad, who agreed. What is this? "Mom, Dad. Can't I come back here the next day?" I beg."Amanda, we talked about you here just today. We'll take care of Marla." I'm afraid I have to disagree with what Dad said. I told my siblings I was going home today."I've accepted what you want. Can't I want it first? I'll take them home; first, I have to say goodbye.""Amanda. They will be the ones w
I wanted to get out of this car and run closer to my two sisters looking at me. Why am I so weak in this thing? My chest tightened when I saw that they were still crying even as the car I was riding in was slowly moving away."Stop the drama." I automatically turned to the man next to me, what else does he want? "You probably won't die if you cry over that."I just ignored him, I let him talk and talk. And did I really think that it would not come to me, before he did not want to accompany me but now I am next to him and we will go back to their mansion together. While on the trip, I was still thinking about my siblings and what would happen to me, they only need a child but why do I even need to marry this man? When we arrived, he came out first ignoring me so only the driver opened the door for me across from where I was sitting nearby. After I thanked the driver, I immediately went inside and now there are more and more people. What's up?"Is this Byron's wife?" An old woman approa
The next day, I woke up already in bed? What I remember is that Byron put me to sleep on the floor, was it just a dream or did I move into bed myself? I was about to think badly when there was a sudden knock on the door, I immediately ran to the bathroom and then washed. As for me, oh, I haven't fixed it yet. What time is it?I immediately opened the door and Manang's face opened up to me smiling happily, I was also embarrassed to respond with a smile to her."Good morning, milady. Breakfast is ready," she said in a happy tone."All right," I replied and then followed her. When we got to the dining room table, I saw the family just being quiet. Are they already praying?"Good morning, Amanda! Come here." Byron's mother stood up and approached me with a smile, I was embarrassed to follow her, maybe because I didn't belong.I just smiled at her and said goodbye which I just have to do but the truth is I will really help Manang prepare food. I was about to take what Manang was carrying w
I just sat quietly next to Byron while a few of the people here talked. I heard nothing but questions about me. Sometimes I answer when the question is right but when I'm not comfortable, I just keep quiet. I simply looked at Byron's hand that was still on my waist, what was happening to him? Is this person really like that when in front of a lot of people I am treated well and when I am not, I feel like I wind up with him again or maybe other people he doesn't know. I’m confused with him actually."Amanda." I turned to Kristine. Their cousin. "My last question to you." She stopped again and we were all waiting for what she would say, I was suddenly nervous. "Do you love Byron?" Everyone was silent and I, was unable to react immediately.I slowly looked at Byron who was now looking at me as well. With our faces so close, I felt weird. My heart beats faster because of his eyes looking at me. I don’t understand why and what that is but one thing I’m sure of now, is I’m dead later. From
Last day of preparation but he was still gone. The only ones I always have with me are his mother and his other cousins. It's good that I don't have a hard time being with them, even though it's embarrassing to act like they're there. I also have nothing to answer every time I am asked what is for the groom, only Byron’s mom answers because she is the one who knows. My gown had arrived as well and as I looked now in front of me. I cried, I didn't ask for it but gave it at the wrong time. If only Marla and Mariz were here, would they be happy that I was getting married? How are they doing? Will they come to my wedding?I was stopped when there was a knock on the door, I immediately opened it and Manang's face opened up to me."Yes?""Sir Byron is downstairs, looking for you." My forehead furrowed, I no longer just spoke and followed her. What else does he need? When we got to the living room, I was shocked someone called me and I couldn’t stop crying. I immediately ran to my two sister
I took a deep breath as I watched Byron's back go inside again. I didn't expect him to know me because he didn't exist at first. All he wanted was to marry a woman and have a child so that he could get their parent's wealth. Every day that is imprinted on my mind. On a daily basis as I repeatedly think about what my role really is in this world, I am shaken. It's tiring. It's only been a few days and everyone is really ready for the wedding except me. For a few days I really thought about backing out of here but I couldn't. I think my family if I leave the agreement, I promised something I didn’t want and I should keep you.Until our wedding day came, I felt nothing but nervousness and even more anxiety. What if Byron himself didn’t go? Will the agreement be lost but what about my family?"Sister, you're beautiful." I looked at Marla when she appeared at my back. She and Mariz are with me here in the dressing room."But it's better if you smile," Mariz seconded so I smiled slowly.Ear
I pulled away from him, backing away slightly. The two of us just stared at each other as if waiting for the next thing to say. I have nothing to say because I know that too. Why does he always make me look like I'm just not with him?I turned to the people as they all applauded, I looked at my two sisters who were now crying and at my parents who also averted their eyes. Are they happy because their debt has been paid? But why do I feel that this is not the only thing that will happen to me, the huge debt to Mama and I know that marriage is not enough to make it happen. In the evening, everyone went to the reception and I did nothing but watch the people having fun as if I was not part of it and I was not one of the reasons why they were here. My family also went to sleep because they were tired so here I am now, alone."Hey." I immediately turned around when someone stood beside me, it was Paul. "Are you okay?"I wondered why he came to me now, wouldn't he be with people. "Hello, ar
After the week Amanda and Byron were married, Amanda woke up from the soft bed and she saw the surroundings. She is in Byron's room, it will be her room too because they are completely married. Amanda sighed and got up, she still couldn't admit to herself that she was married to someone she didn't like. Amanda's family has also returned to their home. Now that she was alone with Byron and Byron's family, she needed to settle down. She thought that if the days came when his family would oppress her, she would not allow herself to be oppressed. After she got dressed, she went out and she found the whole house quiet as if it had not passed the party last week. Amanda turned to the helper who passed by and she called to ask where the people were.“Ma’am, they went to the office early. Sir Byron also tells you that you also need to get dressed and he will pick you up after lunch,” The helper replied. Amanda frowned, wondering what the helper was saying."Did he say where are we going?" Th
When Amanda and Paul arrive at the place where Byron is, in a private office of Byron's lawyer. Byron immediately stood up when he saw Amanda. He glared at Paul because he didn't follow through on what they talked about."What is she doing here? Didn't I tell you not to tell him and especially not to bring him here?" Byron whispered to his brother Paul. But Amanda heard that so instead of Paul answering Byron, Amanda spoke. "I forced him to come to see you, Byron," Amanda said sadly.Byron looked at her full of concern for Amanda, he didn't want Amanda to know what was happening to him. "You are not allowed to be here, go home now—""No, I want to be with you, especially now that I know you need me." Amanda said seriously.Byron turned for a moment to his colleagues inside the private office and said goodbye to go out first to talk to his wife, Amanda. Byron walked out of the office holding Amanda's hand."Amanda, you need to go home. I'll have the driver take you—”"Why don't you wan
Amanda immediately stood up because of what Marla said, her knees seemed to be weak and her tears were slowly falling. "Mariz? Really? Our sister?” she said, crying.Marla nodded and went to hug Amanda. "Yes, Amanda. Our sister Mariz called…” Marla said softly.Amanda faced Marla and grabbed both shoulders. "Where is she? What did he say? Can we call her again? When will he come back to us?” Amanda asked continuously.Marla's face suddenly became sad when Amanda asked them. "She didn't say anything about those, Amanda. She just called me and said she is Mariz, after that, she hung up the call,” explained Marla.Amanda was surprised by what Marla said, she wondered why Mariz would do that. “Why would he do that? Does he not want us anymore? Does he not want to see us and be with us anymore?" Amanda asked tearfully. He couldn't understand why Mariz called but he didn't seem to have any intention of showing them."I don't know either, Amanda. When I called the number she used, I couldn't
Amanda came home early that day, Byron wasn't there yet so she was surprised. Byron also texted him that he had to go through something so he sent Amanda home first. "Lina, hasn't Byron come home yet?" Amanda asked the assistant who passed by. "Not yet, Ma'am." She bowed to say goodbye after answering Amanda's question. Amanda took her phone and called Byron several times but she didn't get an answer, she got worried. The two of them had a good conversation with Byron before he went to the cafe. "That's a long time, go home." Amanda immediately turned to the speaker, it was Paul. Amanda bowed for a moment, embarrassed that Paul caught her waiting outside the house. "He didn't call, I was just worried. I know that his work is done, because I also called his secretary but he didn't answer my call either," explained Amanda. Paul didn't show any emotion to Amanda, he knew where Byron was. "It's going home too, just rest..." Paul answered seriously and turned his back on Amanda witho
On a normal day, Amanda's shop became more and more popular. Besides the delicious products they sell, the surroundings of the shop are also beautiful. Thanks to Lucille because she made all her efforts, even though she didn't like Amanda. She did it for Byron anyway because she thought Byron would be happy with her.Suitable for students who like beautiful backgrounds, the surroundings are also quiet sometimes when their only customers are employees of various companies that are close to the cafe.***Inside Byron's office, he was quietly reading papers and signing until his father entered. He immediately stood up and greeted his father. "Dad, what brings you here?" Byron asked as his father sat down again."How's everything in you, son?" asked his father.Byron was surprised by his father's sudden question, he didn't expect his father to come to the office to ask that first. "Everything is under control, Dad. Did something happen?" Byron asked."Nothing. I just noticed in the past f
When Mariz left the shop, she immediately went straight to her car and couldn't stop crying because she had been holding back for a while. She admits that she really wanted to get away from her difficult life and get away from her two sisters because she thought they would never get rich if they depended on other people. She also admits that she liked her new life in America, with many friends, dating, and being able to buy everything she wanted but when she returned to the Philippines, she couldn't deny that she also wanted to see her two sisters, Amanda and Marla."Bullshit! I shouldn't have felt anything for them, I cut them out of my life a long time ago!” Mariz shouted angrily inside her car. "Should I change my voice too so I won't really be recognized?" she asked herself while tugging at her hair because she felt annoyed by what happened. While inside the shop, Amanda still couldn't get the woman in front of her out of her mind. She also noticed that except for the woman's voic
Within a day, Amanda's problem was solved immediately. Byron was called by his subordinates and found out that the three customers had talked about the video. They followed suit and deleted the videos and promised not to go on all social media.Amanda became complacent somehow. "Are you okay?" asked Marla.Amanda nodded and smiled at her. "I am better now, thanks to Byron," Amanda replied to Marla.Marla says goodbye to go back to work, and Amanda is left at the counter bar. Attending to customers placing orders. "Thank you, come again, Ma'am." Amanda said with a smile to a female customer.Outside the shop, a woman was just looking at Amanda and Marla. It was Mariz, their younger sister. Mariz came back just a week ago from America. She hears about Amanda and Marla, she learns that Amanda has built a business with Marla. As she looked at the shop, Marla happily greeting customers and Amanda smiling at people, Mariz thought that she was too far away from her siblings."Miss, won't you
"You alright?" Marla asked as she approached Amanda after Diana exited.Amanda looked around to see if the people inside the shop were still looking at her, a few were looking and the others had gone back to what they were doing as if there was no scene inside the shop.Amanda apologized to the crowd and then returned to her office, she took a deep breath and calmed herself down. This is her first time showing up in front of someone who can only handle her, this is also the first time she physically hurt someone because of the anger she felt. She didn't expect to be able to do such a thing.“Drink water.” Marla handed the glass of water to Amanda.Amanda took the glass without looking at Marla, after she drank the water there she turned to Amanda. "What I did was embarrassing for the customers, I wish I had stopped myself from slapping Diana," said Amanda sadly.Marla was in awe because Amanda's kindness came back to this matter. For Marla, Amanda should learn to fight against people
The next day, Rianna went to the office even though her mother saw her in the living room, she ignored her mother. Her mother just looked at her, Rianna forgot what her mother said last night."What happened?" Rianna's mother stopped reading the newspaper when her husband suddenly asked a question."What do you mean?" asked Rianna's mother."Relyan, you and your daughter. Did something happen and you didn't greet her? She just left," her husband said.Relyan looked away, she remembered what Rianna said last night not to tell Rianna's father what they talked about."We just talked last night and didn't go well, that's why your daughter is like that," Relyan replied. Her husband frowned, confused. "You let her? I know our daughter, if she or we are at fault, she will be the first to come to us to apologize. She did not do that today, she just went out. I didn't believe that it was just a little mishap," he said at length. "Allan, your daughter and I are in a good relationship. I will t
When Rianna got home to their house, she quickly entered her room. Again, she did let Kenjo send her to her house. And when her mother saw her, she followed Rianna to her room. Rianna's mother knocked twice and when Rianna didn't open the door, she entered on her own.She looked around Rianna's room, she saw that Rianna put the clothes she was wearing in her trash can. Rianna's mother picked up the clothes, examined them, and wondered why she was throwing away the clothes she wore today."Mom? What are you doing here?" Rianna asked when she got out of the bathroom.Immediately her mother turned to her, Rianna looked at the dress her mother was holding. "What is this? Why are you throwing this?” asked his mother.Rianna quickly grabbed her clothes from her mother's hand, she looked away. "This is nothing, Mom. I threw it away because it got dirty," she lied. Her mother frowned, she was surprised by what Rianna said because Rianna doesn't like to throw clothes. In fact, Rianna appreciat
