Tabitha's POV

Dad's face went from astonishment to shock and finally settled on a happy emotion. "Really?"

I watched Dad's reaction and had some guesses in my mind.

Although I didn't know his exact thoughts, from the change in his expression, I could tell that he might have thought that the conflict between Derek and I had reached a dead end.

Now that he knew I was pregnant, his attitude changed. It made me realize that, in his mind, having children was a good thing.

"How can I lie about this? I'm pregnant with twins and it has been more than a month."

Dad was extremely excited. "Great, that's great."

I thought back to those days when Dad was seriously injured and hospitalized and I lost my child. By then, I forced a smile every time I went to see him, but I was getting haggard. Dad must have been worried about me all along.

Now that I was pregnant again, he might think that there was still hope between me and Derek.

Tabitha's POVDad looked up at the sky and said, "Then let me ask you, what would happen if I didn't let her go?"I remained silent, thinking about this question in my mind.Dad continued speaking, "I'd only get resentment and silent treatment. She wouldn't yell at me, but every day after that, she would hate me and this unfair world."There would be no light in her eyes, no smile on her lips. And even though I kept her by my side, I couldn't have her heart. All I got would be a broken family. Even you would have to grow up discreetly."I never forget how carefully you tried to please her. You were so little back then. While other kids your age enjoyed a carefree childhood, you had to do everything you could to win her favor, but in the end, you failed, right?"In this suffocating family, a battlefield without smoke, it wouldn't be long before you became like her."The reason why peacocks are beautiful is because they have a vast expanse of space.

Tabitha's POVFrom Poison and Wolf Shadow to Elena, I thought I had already found the answer. It didn't seem like that now.Yet, Dad was unaware of what had happened later."Tabitha, don't you trust your old man? Even if I wanted to find a new Luna for the pack, I would ask for your consent. I would only have a child when all the conditions got stable and mature in every aspect. How could I possibly do something irresponsible like that?"If it weren't for my dad saying it with his own mouth, I would probably have misunderstood it for a lifetime."Didn't she like you very much? How did she end up getting pregnant with someone else's child?"Dad sighed again. "This is what I often say about young people being impulsive. After she angrily left me, she went to a nightclub and got drunk. Then, she had a one-night stand with someone. Later, I found her and made my position clear. No sooner had we been together than we discovered that she was pregnant."

Tabitha's POVDad continued, "Tabitha, I have protected you well since you were little. You don't know the challenges that werewolves face in human society. Both men and women will do whatever it takes to climb up the ladder for power, money, and status.'""I know it now.""Back then, she spent long enough time on me. I was her best choice. Firstly, I was the Alpha of a pack, and secondly, I didn't have a mate while my only child was not in the Silver Moon Pack."If she could join the pack and become my mate, she wouldn't have to worry about anyone else taking her place. Most importantly, I am much older than her, and she would receive a lot of money after my death."Only after receiving a clear answer from me did she give up on pursuing others. Do you know who she targeted that night?"I suddenly felt a chill down my spine. "Who?""It was Derek."I was completely dumbfounded. "How could it be him?""Well, she has a high self-esteem. Mayb

Tabitha's POVSeeing me lost in thought, Dad cleared his throat twice, and I immediately looked over."Look at me. I was gonna talk about you and Derek, but somehow, we ended up on my stuff. Tabitha, don't worry. Derek's a good guy. He won't be messing around out there. Before you mated with him, I had people check him out. He has always been faithful."I didn't wanna talk about Derek at all, so I changed the subject."Dad, how much do you know about that girl?"Dad didn't want to dive into this again, but seeing that I seemed to be very interested, he added, "Her name is Lillian Brady. At first, I thought she was a smart and sensible kid. But later, when I learned what she had done, I realized I barely scratched the surface of who she really was. Why do you ask? Do you know her?"I calmly replied, "No. Just kinda interested in your relationship."Dad smiled gently, "It's all in the past now. All I want now is to see you happy."It seemed that

Tabitha's POVWhile I was lost in thoughts, Dad's words snapped me back to reality. "What's wrong, Tabitha? If something's bothering you, spill it. Don't keep it to yourself.""Dad, this is just a temporary spot for us. I'm thinking about where we'll live once the babies are born."Honestly, I didn't want anything to do with Derek anymore, but how was I supposed to escape with my twins in tow?And where could I even run to?My wolf paced restlessly in my heart. "The future is so uncertain. I really don't know what to do."Dad sighed, "I heard from Derek that he bought back the assets of the Silver Moon Pack. Why don't we just head back there?""I'll think about it. No rush. It's still early."I picked up the carpentry tools and said, "Dad, teach me. I wanna make something for my kids too.""Sure. let's get started," he beamed before patiently guiding me in carving.I tried to concentrate and followed his steps while my mind was still

Derek's POVThe salesperson, perhaps noticing I was standing there for quite some time, spoke up, "Alpha Derek, do you like this wedding dress? It may not fit Miss Sutton perfectly, but she can try it on. There is still some time before the wedding, and we can make adjustments according to her measurements ASAP."I shook my head and left decisively.I owed Tabitha way more than just a wedding or a dress.I doubted I would ever be able to repay what I owed her in this lifetime. After I changed into the tuxedo selected by Daphne, the salesperson squatted beside me to straighten my trousers, showering me with compliments."Alpha Derek, you are truly handsome, elegant, and dashing. Your wedding with Miss Sutton will definitely garner worldwide attention."I had worn formal attire many times before, but it was the first time for me to wear a wedding tuxedo. However, it wasn't for marrying the love of my life.I kept a straight face, not feeling the

Tabitha's POVMy days in the secluded house were simple and peaceful.I was busy carving wood when Joanna suddenly shut off her phone, looking super pissed while mumbling under her breath."What's got you all grumpy over there?" I shot her a glance. She hurriedly looked up, replying, "Nothing! Just don't check your phone these days. It's all a bunch of trash news."I chuckled, "Are you referring to the news about his wedding?""You heard about it already?""The whole internet was abuzz with it, so yeah."Joanna carefully studied my expression. "So you're not angry? Last month, when Alpha Derek postponed the wedding, I thought he was doing it for you.""Angry? Why would I? Being angry means I still love him. Love will make me get insecure, jealous, paranoid, possessive, and even lose my mind. Why should I do that?"Plus, we've already rejected each other. Even though he's my second chance mate, I don't wanna accept him."I put do

Tabitha's POVI stood at the entrance of Hope Ranch, and a flood of emotions surged through my heart.Though Hope Ranch had been redeemed, I found it disgusting and have never been back because it was once owned by Derek and Daphne.I walked in and saw the hydrangeas blooming in a vibrant array of colors, flourishing beautifully without any apparent pruning. Some roses climbed up and around the fence.A gust of wind made the flowers sway gracefully in the breeze.Although the scene was stunning, I couldn't bring myself to step forward."Tabitha, please go in. Alpha Derek is waiting for you," Rolf urged.I felt like just as the saying went, "The closer you get to a place familiar to you, the more restless you become."I hadn't pushed the door yet when I heard a sound and a white dog running towards me.Tucker, who had been brought back by Derek, circled around my feet.Curious about what Derek might be up to before his grand wedd

Third person's POVTabitha was used to Alvin calling her by name. Hearing him call her "doctor" made her wince."Use a different name," she said."May I know your name, Doctor?""Vanessa."Wait, what?Alvin nearly choked. "You're Vanessa? The all-around physician?"An "all-around physician" was a rarity—doctors usually specialized. But Vanessa wasn't just rare. She was legendary.Alvin had first heard her name last year when she became one of the few surgeons capable of performing interdental artificial cornea surgery. The procedure was so complex it required collaboration across dental, ophthalmological, and radiological fields.Yet Vanessa, a twenty-something newcomer, pulled it off.Media swarmed, patients flocked—but she vanished. Then came a high-risk heart surgery, again under her name.Another worldwide sensation.Reporters chased shadows. Third person's POVA cold female voice cut through the tension, "One more tear and you're out. You're deafening."Misha's open mouth froze mid-sob, the comical expression plastered on her face. She glanced around, finally noticing the unfamiliar woman in the room. "Who is she?" she demanded."This is the miracle doctor who can save Alpha Derek. Show some respect," Rolf warned, wary of Misha's infamous temper flaring up again.Despite her pride, Misha's love for Derek was genuine. She quickly composed herself. "Of course, Doctor. I entrust my Derek to you," she said, the possessive words slipping out before she could catch them.Rolf's eyebrow twitched. Since when was Derek "hers"?Alma appeared in the doorway. "You're back.""Yes," the woman replied, her tone neutral."Let me introduce everyone. These folks are here for treatment. The young man's poisoned—Nine-Heart Wolfsbane, nearly dead. Third person's POVRolf's eyes were red and puffy from crying. "What's Alpha Derek trying to do?" he blubbered."Let him have this one last moment of freedom," Alvin said, holding Rolf back. The mountain wind chilled their tears, but Derek couldn't feel it anymore. His knees shook with every movement, each step draining what little strength he had left.Still, he didn't give up, gritting his teeth and forcing one foot in front of the other. The child stood bathed in sunlight—just a few steps away, and he could hold her. What should've been a quick stride took dozens of seconds, maybe longer.Hedwig stood with her back to him, pigeons swirling around her. A speckled one landed on her finger, cooing.Hedwig's eyes lit up—her mom was back! She spun around to see Derek lurching toward her, unsteady and lifeless yet driven by sheer will.He reached out, fingers trembling, when his body swayed dangero

Third person's POVWhy did it have to be Derek?Alvin's fists tightened as he stared at the horizon. Derek had lived with a clear conscience—except for Tabitha. He didn't deserve this end.But Alvin wasn't a healer. All he could do was watch as Derek's breaths grew shallower, his skin paler. The bell tinkled again—Hedwig had followed them here. When they finally stopped, Alvin eased Derek against a gnarled pine, its needles pricking Derek's back like needles of ice."This spot's good," Alvin said, voice cracking. "You'll see the sunrise."Derek nodded weakly. "Good."The mountain wind bit through Derek's coat, but it cleared his head a little."Alvin... my biggest regret was letting Daphne's demands tear Tabitha and me apart. If I hadn't blamed her for Silver Moon Pack's problems... none of this would've happened.""Alpha Derek, you had your reasons," Alvin said, though the words felt hollow."R

Third person's POVHedwig couldn't speak, but she was wise beyond her years—quiet, helpful, and already versed in basic healing.Derek wished he could play with her, but time was slipping through his fingers. After eating the fruit she'd given him, he picked up his pen again. All night, he didn't rest.He could feel the life Hedwig had breathed into him fading. His senses were dulling again. But the will was done. Now, he only wanted to write letters—to Tabitha, to his kids, Kyrian, Helios and Ayla. The poison was moving faster than it should've. Every letter cost him energy, accelerating the venom's grip.First, he wrote to Kyrian. "Be a good man. Lead the pack with your heart, not just your claws."Derek's chest ached. He'd failed Kyrian, leaving him to shoulder the pack's weight alone. But love? That never faded.Next, his mother. The letter was short—"Take care of Kyrian. If Tabitha ev

Third person's POVAt the mention of the word "will," Rolf's face, which had been tense for days, crumpled. His eyes instantly reddened."Alpha Derek, you don't need a will! You're gonna be fine, you hear me?!"But at this moment, Derek became calm. "I don't have much time left. It took me a lot of effort to get to this camp. Even if I leave, it would take a day. What's the point of leaving if she comes back right after I go? It's better to stay here. If she doesn't come back in the end, I at least need to settle things, I can't just die without any explanation.""Alpha Derek...""Alvin, go get it," Derek said.Alvin's eyes welled up. "Alright."Alban, with red eyes, said, "I'm sorry, kid. I couldn't help you this time.""Dr. Weaver, I'm already grateful to you. You're right, there are some things beyond our control. I guess this is just my fate."In just two days, Derek had gone from a healthy man to someone whose organ

Third person's POVAlma felt a bit awkward. "I'm not sure about that."After all, Hedwig was Derek's spitting image, but she wasn't certain about Hedwig's father."Regardless, he already has other women by his side. He might have forgotten your mother and could build a future with someone else. Even so, do you still want to save him?"Hedwig pursed her lips and didn't respond. Alma stroked her hair, "Poor child, you should know how hard your mother worked to escape him. If he discovers you two are still alive, he'll imprison her again. Do you want that?"Hedwig shook her head gently."Then pretend you don't know him. Your mother and the others aren't in the village. Whether he survives is up to luck," Alma sighed, "Your mother suffered too much. She was barely alive when she gave birth to you. Cherish the life you have now."Hedwig nodded.Strangely, after Derek drank Hedwig's blood, about half an hour later, his vision and hea

Third person's POVThe door swung open.Misha stared at Alma with wide eyes, thinking her sincerity had finally moved her.But the next moment, Alma unhesitatingly lifted a basin of water and splashed it over her, drenching her from head to toe. "Stop making a fuss here! Don't try to coerce me with such theatrics. Whether you stay or do something more extreme, it has nothing to do with me. If you're looking for trouble, take it elsewhere, not here!"Misha stood there, stunned. How could Mrs. Atkinson act so unreasonably?"Why are you staring at me like that? Do you think this is a soap opera?" Alma sneered, "Now leave before you soil my place."As she spoke, she shielded Hedwig's eyes, "Don't look, or it might ruin your mood."Misha returned, drenched and furious, cursing under her breath, "Why is this old woman so difficult? Third person's POV"Alban, I didn't expect forty years to fly by like that. You're still the same as ever. I did say you wouldn't grow taller, didn't I?"Alma remarked with a smile. Alban's face flushed at her words. It had been decades since he was brought here by his mentor after being poisoned.Back then, he was just a teenager, and Alma, in her early forties, was in her prime, looking much younger than her age.Known for her straightforward nature, she had teased him about his height after treating him. Alban had dutifully drunk milk and played basketball in an effort to grow taller, but his height eventually plateaued at around 5'7", making him appear shorter than his younger counterparts like Alvin."Mrs. Atkinson, you're still the same as ever. It's wonderful to see you again. Could you please help my friend? He's been poisoned with the Nine-Heart Wolfsbane," Alban pleaded.Alma sighed, "You've put me in a difficult spot. The N
