First the sounds of birds chirping little melodies in my ear. Then the warm feeling of sunshine on my face. I inhaled deeply, the smell of exhaust fumes and hot tare snapping my eyes open.
“Good you’re back. Being you is exhausting!” Laila quickly pulled back forcing me to take control before we fell face first into the sidewalk.“Unless you’re shoving my boobs in someone’s face then it’s fine.” I joked.“Listen, you have a top tier body and gorgeous face. I was just using the blessings bestowed upon us to our advantage.” She said with a flirty tone.“Seeing as we share the same body, I feel like you could be biased.” I rolled my eyes at her. “So, what happened?”“You passed out and I made a run for it. I was halfway to Mexico before I realized I forgot all our crap and had to turn back.” Laila’s tone was flat serious.“Really?”“Busted! I could never run that far with your weird body.” She said.“So is it top tier or is it weird. Make up your mind.” I laughed.“You passed out, not even five minutes later the head mistress showed up to sign us out. She came in early. Guess most girls try to check out before Dr. Jurard comes in at 9. She handed me our cash and called a cab. I ran to grab our things and high tailed it out of there. Grabbed us a bus ticket and now we wait.”“Was Marci there?” I asked.“Nope, she phoned it in as usual. Well faxed it in this time. She sent over all our paperwork last night. Couldn’t get rid of us fast enough.”“Where we headed?” Looking down at the ticket I could tell somewhere in Montana, but I couldn’t begin to pronounce the town.“The lady inside said it’s a tiny tourist town. The whole main town is a gas station, restaurant and hotel and bonus because it’s between seasons the ticket was only $185.” She boasted proudly.“Nice, good work! This place sounds perfect.” Most girls left the home and wanted to go to the big cities but not us. We wanted to go somewhere quiet where no one could possibly recognize us, and we could have a fresh start.“She said being the off season the hotel rents super cheap this time of year.” We were nervous about money. We got our last check from the state so minus the ticket we had $963 to our name. That had to last until we could find someone willing to hire a nobody from nowhere who knows nothing. “We are going to be okay; I promise.” Laila tried to reassure me.A year of planning and dreaming didn’t compare to how vast the world really is outside those walls. Going on field trips and taking classes at the local college felt tiny by comparison. I hated that place but at the end of the day I knew I would get to eat and have a place to sleep. Right now, I felt crushed by the uncertainty of it all. After a few hours our bus pulled up, around twenty passengers got off. The driver, a thin man with a salt and pepper goatee followed the last passenger out. He announced loudly “Fifteen-minute break, don’t be late or I’ll leave without ya!” He looked down at me and my disheveled hair and trash bag luggage before holding his hand out for my ticket.I felt ashamed, kicking the two trash bags under the bench. He gave me a kind smile and said. “Let’s sit you up by me. We’ll put all your luggage in the overhead behind me. No one ever sits there. I reckon it’s cuz I’ll chat your ear off.” He gave me a wink and grabbed both bags leaving me to carry the suitcase and backpack. After fifteen minutes only three passengers got back on. The driver gave me another smile before closing the door and releasing the break. It didn’t take long before I drifted off to sleep. The doors slamming shut again jolted me from my sleep. A woman took the driver's seat. “I guess they don’t drive the whole way, makes sense it’s a 17-hour drive.” Laila yawns loudly.Making a couple stops for breaks along the way there was one more driver switch before we reached our stop. I wrestled my 4 bags off the bus and was glad there was no one around to see me dragging my bags across the parking lot into the hotel.Didn’t look much like a hotel to me but then again what did I know. The main office was a decent sized building with what looked like 20 or 25 small cabins reaching back into the trees behind it.A pale thin man with shoulder length raven hair was at the front desk. He looked up from his computer, yellow hazel eyes looking me up and down before landing on the bags at my feet.“ID and credit card?”I fumbled through my backpack for what little identification I owned. After handing it to him he looked back up. “Credit card.”“I don’t have one.” I told him.He looked at me with distain. “You don’t have a proper ID, you’re only 18 and you don’t have a credit card I can’t rent you a room.”My eyes started to swell, holding back tears my breathing jagged. Gathering my things again I went to leave.Looking back up at me through his bangs he rolled his eye and in a dry tone said, “Go talk to Tommy.” Making a gesture out the window.Going in the direction he pointed I saw the sign for Tommy’s Bar & Grill. “I’m guessing Tommy’s going to be in there.” Laila joked.I know she’s trying to keep my spirits up, but it hasn’t been a day and I already feel beat down.A bright-eyed bubbly waitress with huge 80s style blonde hair meet me at the door. “Have a seat anywhere sugar. It’s slow even for a Tuesday.”“The guy at the hotel told me to talk to Tommy.” I told her.“Tommy!” She yelled.“What?” Came a gruff voice from the back.“What do you mean what, get your old ass up here!” She yelled back at him.“Dam woman. Can’t you just answer a simple question.” The man grumbled as he came out from behind a wall separating the dining room from somewhere else. One look at me and with a sigh he said, “Well honey, let’s get you cleaned up.”I must have been a sight. The high ponytail I put in yesterday loose from being slept in. Wild strands of hair in my face. Wrinkled, mismatched clothes and shoes that had holes in them for weeks. The two black garbage bags containing half my belongings had been drug along the road, streaks of dirt and mud along the bottom. Not to mention my puffy tear filled eyes and defeated expression. If there is such a thing as biker Santa Claus I have no doubt it’s Tommy. Almost as wide as he is tall. Tattoos covering his arms and legs. Snow White hair perfectly matching his full but trimmed beard. A big round red face with a tiny button nose. Just looking at him made me feel better but when he opened his arms and pulled me into a big bear hug I broke down. I have no idea what I’m doing. The first 24 hours out of the home had been worse than anything I was prepared for. My tears soaking the front of his white cotton shirt. He wrapped one arm over my shoulders and with a tug pulled me the
The cabin is cozy and small, the door opens into the living room and kitchen. A three cushion couch with a wooden coffee table lining one wall and the kitchen on the other.A small two burner stove and sink left little counter space. Two tall narrow cabinets served as the pantry. Up the stairs a large space with two dressers and the bed. The loft overlooking the kitchen and the bed up against a window with a perfect view of the lake. Laila is ecstatic. “This is amazing! This whole space to ourselves. No five other girls in our room, no shared bathroom and no snoring.” She said excitedly.“Well I still have to deal with your snoring.” I joked. I had no sooner made it upstairs then a knock came at the door.Rushing down the stairs, pulling aside the little curtain and looking through the small window in the door. Tommy was outside holding a large tray covered in tin foil. I had completely forgotten he said he was going to make ribs. I quickly opened the door and tried to help him wit
Approaching the table I couldn’t hide that I was nervous. My hands sweating as I tried to force a smile that kept falling. “Good morning, what can I get, how can I help, Um what will it be.” I stuttered out every greeting I could think of at the same time. The younger man looked up and gave me a warm smile, while the older gentleman continued to look out the window. “We’ll have the usual.” The older man said with a humpf. “Being it’s my first day I don’t know what your usual is sir but if you tell me I’ll try my hardest to remember for next time.” I said trying to stay cheerful. The older man smacked his hand on the table and turned to look at me. “The usual, my usual.” He said defiantly. Trying to hold back the tears building in my eyes. CeCe came up from behind me. Placing her palms on the table she looked the older man dead in the eyes. “Listen here you contemptuous old jackass. You’re her first table, you better be god dam nice to her or I’ll tell Tommy to burn all your f
I couldn’t have been in the bathroom for more than sixty seconds when two women I had seen go into the bar came in. One was shorter, her brunette hair in a pixie cut, her makeup flawless and her dress showed all her curves with half her skin showing. The other couldn’t be more opposite, her long blonde hair pulled carelessly into a ponytail. She had on pants that were clearly to big, a white t shirt and a flannel unbuttoned over top. The one with the pixie cut spoke first. “Listen don’t take it so hard, Blanes a piece of no good trash. You’re better off without him.” She exclaimed. “Why does it feel like I’m dying.” I grabbed my chest still writhing in pain. “A rogue rifling through the garbage is a better mate than that scum.” The blonde told me. The door to the bathroom swung open and a man appeared in the doorway. “Alpha Colton wants her!” He declared. Both girls stiffened before each one grabbed one of my arms and started dragging me to the door. As we walked through the res
Leading the way Beta Lucas took a right at the end of the hall before stopping at two big wooden doors. Like the foundation two wolves holding up what I could now tell was supposed to be the moon were hand carved into the door. One wolf on either side with the moon split in half where the doors would open. Beta Lucas took one handle while the other man took the second. Pushing the doors open the light was blinding at first. Two long glass windows on one side of the room showered it with daylight. My eyes strained to adjust from the dark hall. The man inside resting his backside against the desk with his legs stretched forward and crossed at the ankles looked as though he had been waiting for us. His pitch black hair and dark tan skin made his blue eyes shine. The five o’clock shadow on his face did nothing to hide his chiseled square jaw line and high cheekbones. As he shifted slightly his shirt strained against his muscles. “Omega Zeke, your dismissed. Beta Lucas close the doo
When I awoke the next morning, I’m not sure what I was expecting but this wasn’t it.Beta Lucas lay with half the pillows on the bed behind him so he was sitting up. Noticing I had woken up. “Good morning sunshine. You hungry. Don’t worry I’m cooking.” He said. His tone cheerful and playful. “Good to know you feed your hostages.” I grumbled back at him. “Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” He protested. Lifting his hands and shaking them back and forth. “You’re not a hostage. You’re free to leave.” He paused. “Whenever you want.” He finished. “Is that so?” I propped my head up and looked at him. “Absolutely, if you WANT to leave. You can.” His obvious over pronunciation of the word want had my attention. “You think I want to stay here?” I asked. “I have to go to work. Tommy and CeCe are expecting me.” I said sternly. The laughter that came from him was downright insulting. “You’re one job is keeping the Alpha happy. It’s a pretty posh job if you ask me. Hell given the chance I might consider swin
“I’m sorry, what?” I asked trying to squeeze out from Beta Lucas’s vice grips of a hold on me. “You expect me to believe I’m some fairytale creature. I have a voice in my head not some wolf howling at the moon.” “Of course you would think that if you were raised by humans. No one to teach you how to shift or be a wolf. You poor thing.” He said his grip just getting tighter. “You’re suffocating me.” I managed to squeak out. “Sorry.” He said releasing his grip. Letting me fall a few inches before my feet touched the ground again. “Ain’t that something. You went from a human to being rejected by your mate to blood bound to Alpha Colton in a matter of weeks.” “About that. What does blood bound mean and what about him saying I’m his slave.” I asked. “Eeeeeee, about that. How about I tell you everything over breakfast. I’m starving and from the grumble of your stomach so are you.” He said with a wink. I threw on the clothes he left for me. Looking like a kid in her parents clothe
I could smell him coming long before he entered the room. Alpha Colton calling out to Beta Lucas before entering the room. “You better not have made piss water coffee again this morning.” “Peed in it fresh myself this morning just for you.” Beta Lucas answered giving me a wink. “By the way, who had raised by humans and doesn’t even know she’s a wolf in the pool?” Alpha Colton stopped pouring his cup of coffee and sat down next to Beta Lucas across the table from me. His elbow resting on the table as he rolled his thumb and middle finger together. His brows furrowed and a wave of remorse and guilt flooded me. “You didn’t know?” He asked. “Still not sure I believe it.” I told him. Looking down at my plate pushing food around with my fork. “Well then!” Alpha Colton exclaimed before standing up and beginning to strip off his clothes. For a faint second I could see a tattoo on his chest over his heart but then he took off his pants and I couldn’t avert my eyes from the Python betw
