[SYLVIE’s Point-of-View]
There was no way I could hide the horror many did to me.
I caught her wrist when she started walking out, ignoring the disaster she had caused. I didn’t even feel the burning feeling of the hot drink when it spilled on my chest. I cared more about my papers, and I would never let Mandy go away with it!
“What the f*ck is wrong with you? Let me go!” Mandy’s eyes widened, trying to intimidate me with her vicious look. “It’s an accident, Sylvie! You are not looking at where you are going!”
I hissed, my lips curled against my teeth. “You are not even supposed to be in this area, Mandy! What are you doing here?! Your table is outside Alpha Ray’s office!”
She looked at me incredulously and said, “What are you talking about!? I just went to the pantry to get a cup of coffee, idiot! And you were on the way, and now it’s my fault?!”
The other team member’s eyes were starting to gawk at us. It was obvious that Mandy was trying to sabotage me with her cute little tricks.
Then I reminded myself that I couldn’t lower myself to her standard. Mandy was known as a bully in this office, and since I worked here, I did everything to avoid and never be the subject of her torment. It would be just a waste of time to deal with her horseplay.
And so I let go of her hand, and she shoved her way away from me while giving me a piercing look in the eye.
“Good! Know your place, Hall,” she smirked at me tauntingly and walked out of the department.
“Goddess, that’s awful. Those are the papers you are going to need for your reports tomorrow, Sylvie. Are you sure you are going to be okay?” One of my teammates, Abby, approached me and looked at the damage that Mandy had done.
I shook my head in panic. She was right. Even if I worked for it over time, there was no way I could finish all of this. I would be in huge trouble if I failed to submit it to our department head.
“I don’t know. I-I can’t go home. I have to do it tonight and wish the goddess would help me fish it by tomorrow,” I said to Abby, not able to look her in the face because I was so angry my eyes were teary.
“Oh my goodness, here she comes!” Abby whispered in a wary voice as she stepped away from my cubicle, not wanting to be involved in Mandy’s growing dislike of me.
I looked at every page, but all of them had coffee stains. Frustrated, I shook my head and took them from my table to throw them in the trash bin, just beside the copy machine.
I stared at the papers I worked hard on in the trash bin with an empty feeling in my chest. I didn’t know when I should start. I had a soft copy on my computer, but I had to make ten copies of them, each consisting of sixty pages. The worst part was that each of them had unique data, and I had to sort them out based on each of the head department’s needs.
Mandy went to the copy machine and looked at the documents she ruined with an annoying satisfaction on her face. I knew she did it on purpose to destroy my performance for tomorrow.
“It’s okay, Sylvie. You are Ray’s new favorite pet and I am sure he would make some adjustments for you.” She said in a mocking tone and that’s when I confirmed it was indeed about me and Alpha Ray being close for the past several days. “Or maybe you are doing extra work to get the Alpha’s attention?”
My eyes turned sharp and my blood spiked to my head.
I didn’t know what happened next, but all I knew was that I wanted to kill Mandy and break her neck. In a split second, I pushed her to the copy machine. Mandy’s eyes widened with fear; she couldn’t believe what I did as I hissed and glared down at her with my killer instinct.
I Had enough of her already.
“Be careful of what’s coming out of your mouth, Mandy. You don’t know what you are saying.” I hissed at her and threatened her with my sharp teeth. My face was so close to her as I pressed her hard on the machine behind her. “You don’t know me or what I am capable of, so just stay away from me.”
Despite the fear in her eyes, she retorted, hissing, “I am your f*cking senior here, Sylvie! You have no right—”
Mandy tried to push me away from her, ready to fight back, but once again, I pushed her to the machine, and the equipment groaned from the impact of her body. Then I stepped closer to her and tilted my head, pointing her the security camera above us.
Then I smirked, and Mandy looked at me like I was crazy. She looked at the camera and back at my face. That was when I threw her a flash drive, which she caught immediately, puzzled at the thing.
“Thank you Mandy for being a considerate officemate! I can’t believe you would volunteer to work on the documents for my report tomorrow! That flash drive has all the soft copies of the reports and instructions on how to sort them. The coffee splashed on the ones I worked on was very unfortunate. But since you are being a klutz and ruining my work, I believe you should be the one to work on them overnight.” I made my voice a little louder so that the camera would record it clearly
“Wait, what?!” Mady blinked several times, like she couldn’t believe what just happened. I stepped closer to her again, and she froze.
“Stop provoking me, Mandy. I am not like the others who you can threaten with your looks and your position in this company. Just like I told you, stay away from me, and don’t push me to kill you!” I murmured to her, low enough that only Mandy could hear it.
The security camera had a microphone and audio on it, and that meant there was no way for her to display her hostile behavior or her image would be ruined, and she never wanted that. She would never want Alpha Ray to be disappointed with her if she aimed to be the next Luna.
“Goodbye, Mandy. Thank you for your hard work.” I smiled at her and shook my fingers goodbye to make her more angry. Her face was red before I turned my back on her and took my things from my table.
“You are going home? What about—”
“Mandy will deal with it.” I winked at Abby and I felt her eyes following me in disbelief until I was out of the office.
I hated what happened in the office and I never wanted anyone to see that side of me but Mandy was just another level of bully and I would never let her treat me like she treated the new employees who saw her as one of the important people in the office. Mandy was only there because of her family status. There was nothing special about her; besides that, she had a pretty face and nothing more.
Was Alpha Ray interested in her? Was there something special between the two?
I shook my head. I shouldn’t be worried about things like that. I knew Alpha Ray. He was not the kind of man who was only interested in physical looks. I don’t think he was too shallow to be attracted to Mandy.
I frowned. Why was I suddenly interested in Alpha Ray’s preference for women?
Wiping my chest from the coffee stain, I went downstairs as fast as I could, hoping I would catch up with the bus trip since renting a taxi was too expensive for me. I waited for another fifteen minutes until a sleek black car stopped in front of me. The window of the car opened, and I saw Alpha Ray inside with a smile on his face.
“The bus is too crowded for this kind of hour, Sylvie. Get in! I will drive you home,” Alpha Ray offered. His blue eyes were fixed on my face, pleading for me not to refuse him.
I hesitated at first, but then I remembered Mandy, and if she found out about it, I knew she would die of jealousy, so I accepted, “Fine.” And I went into his car, still wiping the coffee stain on my shirt.
Alpha Ray noticed it, and he frowned, “What happened, Sylvie? I can smell coffee on you.”
“Long story,” I sighed and then continued wiping it as the wet fabric stuck to my skin, making it see-through and revealing my cleavage.
We were not getting too far yet from the office building, and I already felt the heat spreading inside the car. And it wasn’t the heater that made the temperature rise.
It was Alpha Ray, and his sensual eyes burned with desire after he saw the wet part of my clothes and my skin underneath them.
He was in heat.
[SYLVIE’s Point-of-View]I averted my eyes from him and Alpha Ray stopped the car on the side of the road as he breathed deeply and slowly.“Goddess, this is embarrassing. I’m so sorry about that.” Alpha Ray chuckled and nervously leaned the back of his head against the headrest of his seat and exhaled, “It’s something I am not in control of, Sylvie. I hope you understand.”As Alpha Ray breathed and focused on himself, I saw how his Adam’s apple moved up and down as he swallowed hard. I didn’t know what happened, but I felt it as well. The attraction I never thought I would feel for the man who offered me help the day he found out I was one of them—a she-wolf living in a human community. Since that day, he didn’t stop until he convinced me to work for his company and experience being with my kind once again. After so many years, I tried to avoid being in a pack because of the shame that happened in my past. I knew I had to put Oiver first before my fears, so I accepted his offer, kno
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]I was about to get some hot water when I saw Mandy cursing like an old lady while organizing the papers on her table.I frowned. After what happened last night, I would never tolerate the kind of attitude she was trying to portray toward me. The whole office knew that Mandy was a spoiled bratty kid who was raised in this elite society and was only forced to work in this company because of her father, who was one of Alpha Ray’s top investors and one of the wealthiest magnates that operates in this pack. Aside from that, Mandy’s father was also part of Alpha Ray’s council, and that meant her family has huge influence over the Alpha. But that was not just the motivation that made Many stay in this place. She hated it here. She thought it was some kind of playground where she could play like a queen. Mandy Wallace wanted to be the Luna of the pack. That was why she was sticking to Alpha Ray’s side, hoping he would notice how badly she wanted it. But Alpha Ray is n
Sylvie’s POVThe grand foyer of Alpha Ray's mansion sparkled with opulence, crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the gathered elite of Eastridge Pack. I stood near a marble pillar, my fingers tracing the intricate patterns on my champagne flute, my eyes darting between the ornate grandfather clock and the massive double doors. Where were Oliver and Daniel? The week since Alpha Ray's confession had been a whirlwind. Each day at the office felt like navigating a minefield, his intense gaze following me, igniting a warmth I thought long extinguished. But with that heat came an overwhelming sense of dread. I couldn't—wouldn't—allow myself to be vulnerable again. A burst of laughter from a nearby group of wolves jolted me from my reverie. I plastered on a polite smile, nodding at a few familiar faces from the office. This gathering was supposedly to celebrate our project's success, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to it. Alpha Ray had been secretive, his eyes t
Sylvie’s POVSomething was terribly wrong. The moment Mandy finished her taunting words, my wolf's instincts screamed danger. Years of survival had taught me to trust these instincts, and right now, every nerve in my body was on high alert. The grand ballroom of Alpha Ray's mansion suddenly felt like a beautifully decorated trap. Crystal chandeliers that had seemed elegant moments ago now cast suspicious shadows across the faces of Eastridge Pack's elite. The champagne in my glass tasted bitter, and the expensive perfumes mixing in the air became suffocating."Oliver?" Daniel's voice cut through my growing unease. He stepped forward, his usual confident stride carrying an unusual tension. "Why didn't you come back with me from the training ground?"My son's face tightened almost imperceptibly. To others, he might have appeared calm, but I knew my boy. The slight clench of his jaw, the way his fingers curled inward – he was hiding something."I told you already," Oliver replied, his vo
Sylvie’s POV[Flashback - One Week Earlier]I was focused on organizing the financial reports at my desk when a slight movement at the office door caught my attention. Through my peripheral vision, I noticed Daniel quickly ducking out of sight. My wolf's senses tingled - this wasn't the first time I'd caught him watching me this week. Before I could dwell on it further, Mandy's sharp heels clicked against the marble floor, approaching the doorway where Daniel lurked. Her predatory smile made my stomach turn."Well, well, if it isn't our future Alpha," Mandy's syrupy voice carried clearly to my enhanced hearing. "Are you perhaps interested in something... or someone?"I kept my head down, pretending to work while straining to hear their conversation. Something about their interaction set off warning bells in my head."N-no, I was just..." Daniel stammered, caught off guard. Even without looking, I could imagine the blush creeping up his neck - he had the same tell as his father."Oh, c
Sylvie’s POVThe grand ballroom of Alpha Ray's mansion had become an arena of whispers and stares. Every elite member of Eastridge Pack watched with barely concealed interest as the drama unfolded before them. My dizzy spell had passed, but the humiliation was far from over.Daniel stood taller now, drawing strength from the attention of the crowd. The slight tremor in his voice had disappeared, replaced by a confidence that made my heart ache. He was so young, so easily manipulated – just as I had been at his age."I know what everyone must be thinking," Daniel announced, his voice carrying across the hushed room. "But age is just a number when it comes to true mates. My wolf knows what it wants, and it wants Sylvie Hall."Mandy's triumphant laugh cut through the tension like a knife. "Isn't it wonderful?" she gushed, her eyes glittering with malice. "Who would have thought our little office manager would catch the eye of our future Alpha?"I could see her game now, clear as day. Eve
Sylvie’s POVAs the chaos swirled around me in Alpha Ray's mansion, I forced myself to take several deep breaths. The dizziness from my earlier memories was subsiding, replaced by a cold clarity. I'd been in impossible situations before – this was just another one to survive."Daniel," I said, keeping my voice gentle but firm. My years of experience as a mother helped steady my tone. "You're making a mistake. What you're feeling... it's not what you think it is."The young wolf's face fell slightly, but determination quickly replaced his uncertainty. Around us, the remaining pack members watched with barely concealed interest, their phones undoubtedly recording every moment of this drama."I'm not a child," Daniel protested, his voice cracking slightly. "I know what I feel. I'm the future Alpha of Eastridge Pack, and my wolf—""Is not yet fully mature," I cut in smoothly. "Daniel, you haven't even experienced your first transformation yet. How can you be so certain about something as
Sylvie’s POVThe tension in the mansion's grand hall reached a fever pitch when Alpha Ray strode through the crowd. His powerful aura made everyone step back instinctively, creating a path directly to where Daniel, Oliver, and I stood at the center of this storm."What's all this commotion about?" Ray's voice carried the weight of his Alpha authority, though his expression remained carefully neutral. His eyes swept over the scene, lingering for a moment on my face before turning to his son.Daniel straightened his shoulders, drawing confidence from the attention of the gathered crowd. "Father, I need to tell you something important." He stepped forward, his young face set with determination. "I've found my mate."The silence that followed was deafening. I watched Ray's face carefully, noting the slight tightening around his eyes – the only visible sign of his discomfort."Sylvie Hall is my destined mate," Daniel continued, his voice growing stronger. "I know it in my soul. And I want
[ALPHA RAY’s Point of View]All I should focus on is determining any threat that might happen to Sylvie.I couldn’t help but admire the woman I chose to be with as she expressed her anguish and her detest against what these aggressors did to her family and her former pack. I thought when I told her about my plan of attending this banquet to let everyone witness the true colors of the Silver Blade Pack using the testimony of the people who experienced their horrible attacks on the northern villages. This was a promise to her that I would do anything to stop Lucas Wright and his father from spreading violence all over the region. I didn’t know how or who suggested that Karl was the right wolf for the position in the parliament. All I knew was they made a huge mistake giving him such power when all Karl knew was bloodshed throughout the years of his service as the Alpha of the Eastridge—which is now known as the Silver Blade.Seeing the outburst of one of my trusted and most skilled sold
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]I took two steps forward with my eyes locked on Karl Wright. Lucas pushed his father behind him and met my glare as if protecting the old man. The gesture made Karl a little unhappy. I bet he hated that his son made him look weak.“Don’t ever think that we came here without proof,” I said to them, and everyone got curious about what kind of proof Alpha Ray and I brought to testify against the Wrights. “Alpha Ray and I had been waiting for this moment to reveal to everyone your true colors. That your intention isn’t as pure as what you are telling these folks.”Karl Wright squinted his eyes, anxious about what Alpha and I had to ruin his plans. Lucas, however, was more concerned about me getting hatred from the crowd despite Alpha Ray’s effort to avert their attention from him. Everyone thought of me as the bringer of bad luck to every pack I used to stay. And the looks they had on Alpha Ray were the kind that they felt bad that he was stuck with me. I didn’t k
[SYLVIE’s point of View] There was silence as they all looked at the most powerful Alpha of the West region.“I have no idea what you are talking about, Mr. Ray Howard of the Westridge Pack.” Karl Wright laughed as if my mate had said something ridiculous in front of his audience. If there’s something that pleases me, it is the look on his face. Karl couldn’t hide the humiliation on his face as he glared down at us with a crooked smile. Lucas, on the other hand, seemed to have already expected this kind of scene, knowing that I and my mate would contradict their plan, no matter how well they would deliver it.Evil is evil, even in any form.“Everyone here knows of what happened to the Moonlight pack and still chose not to talk about it.” Alpha Ray called out to everyone as he looked around. Hoping to see any shame on their faces. But those people only averted their eyes from us. The others glared, wishing the Wrights didn’t waste their time inviting us to the event. Lucas knew this w
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]“Who is that woman!”All the eyes were on me as I stood with the heaving chest. My mind suddenly panicked when I realized I had done it again—that I had made myself the center of attention after failing to control my temper. But I had no choice. Everyone in that hall thought they were watching and listening to a bastard who could bring glory to the purebloods, but they didn't realize it would cause a catastrophe that would bring the Shifter’s world into peril. And I mean humans versus our kind—I couldn’t imagine that kind of war would break into this region when The Shifter’s Council made it clear that humans were to be protected by our kind for a peaceful relationship with them. That’s what the Moonlight Pack believed—that humans, despite being vulnerable and frail, unlike us shifters, deserved to co-exist in this society. They were never a threat. They were essential to balance our nature to become more sensible to every creature in this world and not to bec
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]“I need to go to the bathroom,” I whispered to my mate as we went to the tables and pretended to get more drinks.“Sure. I’m just here, love.” Alpha Ray’s eyes were wary as he looked around, smiled, and kissed me. “Don’t make it too long.”“Of course,” I smiled back, giving him one sultry stare as I planted a soft kiss again on his lips. He knew I needed time to calm my nerves after everything I had heard from Karl Wright. I saw him look down on my trembling fingers and he held my hand and squeezed it.I went straight to the bathroom. I had to collect myself before I did something stupid. I never wanted to complicate things and make a scene again, just like what happened with me and Giovanni Gordon at the wine tasting in Alpha Ray’s house. I had to keep it cool and play along with the old man. There’s no way I would let them taint my mate’s name because they succeeded in making me the jester of the night and it was frustrating that I couldn’t even do something
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]I felt as if I was going to explode. After Alpha Ray revealed to me the details of Ruby Morgan's attempt to reach out to him to spare her from his wrath for what her father had done to Ray's first mate, my mind was blown after I learned that Lucas' father, Karl Wright, was still alive! My face was red when I lifted my head to face the mirror. I stared at my reflection for about three minutes as I calmed myself down. I never wanted to scream, to break, or to lose control in front of my mate, but knowing that old man was still alive—it was agonizing. A tear rolled down my face, thinking that he was still thriving after what he did to me and my family.“I know nothing about Lucas’s words are worth believing.” I snarled as I glared at my reflection in the mirror.“He sent the invitation with his name on it. I can see he’s taunting us.” Alpha Ray’s voice was full of detest as he stood behind me and looked at the open window of my room. The sheer white curtains danc
[ALPHA RAY’s Point of View]I knew I could never get away from that nightmare—the tragedy that almost destroyed me several years ago.As much as I wanted to look as if I wasn’t affected by it, I was never good at pretending I was fine after I saw that cursed mark that was tattooed on Ruby Morgan’s skin. There’s no way I could be mistaken. Although the Council of Shifters told me that certain lineages in the Morgan family tree were eradicated after their diabolical way of dealing with their enemies—perhaps the poison, the same poison they used to kill my first mate—deep in me, I knew they still existed. And I was right. One hundred percent right that they were only hiding. And it was funny that I didn’t think about Silver Blade Pack. The only pack that can tolerate such atrocious crimes for the sake of power.Sylvie was worried. I could feel it. When I thought that part of my life was already kept in the deepest, darkest part of me, I never thought it would submerge again after seeing
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]I frowned. I knew the woman’s family was one of the famous families from this region. But Alpha Ray seemed agitated, with eyes glaring down at Ruby Morgan.Terrified, Lucas’ fiancé took advantage of the shock on Alpha Ray’s face and immediately hopped in her luxurious car and drove crazily straight out of the building parking lot and onto the main road. I wanted to know what made him agitated after he recognized that Ruby came from a certain pack and clan, but I decided not to approach Ray first after seeing him drowning in deep thoughts. Not too long after, some of the building's security burst into the parking area and arrested the intruders. That chequered-shirt guy glared at me as the guards lifted him from the ground and dragged him toward the patrol vehicle. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be the last time we would see each other, so I answered his glare with a cold stare, showing him I was never afraid of him.“Are you hurt?”Startled by his deep voice, I
[SYLVIE’s Point of View]“Sylvie!”“I have to go.”I rushed out of my office after Ruby Morgan ruined my day. Alpha Ray’s face was worried, but I had to go, or I would explode in anger. I never wanted any of the people in the office to see me lose my composure. The horrible incident about me ending Mandy’s lunacy had already stopped, and I didn't want another issue to taint the name of my fiancé’s pack anymore. I had to avoid troubles as much as I could while Uncle Bennett still trusted Alpha Ray and me and that we could make Westridge successful again.“Sylvie!”“I just need some fresh air.” I stopped in the hallway to tell Ray I had to be alone for a second. “I will be okay, I promise.”He didn’t look convinced, though, as he looked at me gravely. After what happened between me and Lucas yesterday, Alpha Ray started to become overprotective of me. “I don’t think you should go anywhere without a sentinel, love. At least let me send four guards to wherever you want to go.”His sky-blu
