“I want to stay awake until they get back,” Caleb insisted when the nanny suggested it was time for bed.

“Caleb, it's late. You need your rest,” the nanny replied, trying to reason with him.

“Please, just this once.” He insisted

The nanny sighed, understanding his feelings and his need to spend as much time as possible with his mother since he lived with his father. “Alright, but just this once. You can stay up, but you have to promise to be in bed when your mom gets home.”

Caleb nodded vigorously. “I promise.”

Once Kayla had gone to bed, Caleb and the nanny played board games and watched TV. They laughed and joked, but as the night wore on, the nanny began to tire.

“Caleb, I’m going to bed now. You should too,” she said, stifling a yawn.

“I’ll wait up. I’ll be fine,” Caleb assured her.
