Chapter 47: Evander’s Point of View

After all these years I finally learned the truth of the woman I once called my wife and mate. I was so wrong – about everything.

Candra smiles at Aurora gently. The resemblance between them is startling. I see in Chandra’s face what Aurora’s would have matured into if we stayed married, if she were still my mate, if we were destined to grow old together.

"It's a gift from the Moon Goddess,” the priestess explains to my former mate. “A boon extended to our lineage."

Since the day we met, I tried to mind link with her. Again and again, we tried and failed. The only possible conclusion was that she had no wolf. And by thinking that, I assumed that meant she never had one.

"I did have a wolf once," Aurora said, and my heart stopped in shock. "But, before I could shift, before my wolf could come into her power…"

I heard the turmoil in her voice. The pain.

"Before I could shift,” she confessed. “I used my gifted healing ability to save a dying person."
