Save me, moon goddess

CHAPTER 4: AVERY POV

I blinked several times to ensure it was really Emily who had stepped into the room. She flashed me a broad smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, and she closed the door behind her.

How did she get here? I couldn't help but wonder.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her.

"I wonder whose baby that is," Emily replied instead, ignoring my question.

Had Julian shown her the message and asked her to come instead of him? I clutched my phone tightly, staring as she sauntered towards me.

"You see, Julian and I are getting married soon," Emily paused. She was closer to me, so close that I could smell her flowery perfume. She flipped her brown hair from her shoulder and sighed dramatically while waving her hand in the air.

I caught a glimpse of the princess cut ring on her middle finger.

"Yes, we are going to have the grandest wedding and mate ceremony of the century."

She gushed as if reading my thoughts. "I have the blessings of his parents already, and you know, the pack house won't reject someone as intelligent and beautiful as I am. I am from a great family, too. So, with everyone's blessing, I am going to be the Luna of the family."

I said nothing and only watched as she continued to speak.

Emily continued, "You might be wondering why I am telling you all this and how you come into the picture. The Saint Claire Family is the most respected in the whole of London, and you're well aware of that. So, Julian and I can't afford to have any stain on the name, especially from a dirty omega with an illegitimate child on the way."

"What are you implying?" I questioned.

"Good question, Avery. I am glad you are not as dumb as you look." she moved forward and clasped a lock of my hair, twirling it. "Get rid of that bastard in you."

I swallowed hard as I watched Emily with wide eyes. I didn't want to believe she had said that, despite how nasty she was at the moment.

She couldn't have possibly said I should get rid of it!

"Until Julian says that to me himself..."

Emily snapped her fingers in front of me and cut me off, "Don't be stupid, Avery. Why would you think I came here? Do you think I am interested in seeing your face? Of course, it's what Julian wants."

A lump formed in my throat, and I blinked back, the tears pooling in my eyes. Not only had he made Emily come here when I requested him to do so, he wanted me to get rid of my baby.

I had thought he'd have a change of mind, but once again, my naiveness got the best of me.

"I'm sure you're smart enough, and you'll do what's right, Avery. I am counting on you," Emily said before walking out of the room.

Staying in the room for a while, I pondered on what she had said. I couldn't wrap my head around it.

But I knew Julian could say that to me himself. If he had told me I was only warming his bed when he needed me to, then he could definitely ask me to have an abortion.

I walked out of the room and towards the entrance. Halting at a distance before the exit, I frowned as I noticed Julian. He was pacing around, and when he saw Emily pushing herself towards him, he rushed towards her.

But she had come into the room to speak to me without it. In fact, she was barely in any pain.

Shaking my head, I continued towards them. I could speak to Julian now that I had seen him. Even as Emily had said all that, I wanted to hear him say the same thing despite knowing his words would hurt me.

"Avery!" Emily called. As I turned to look at her, I saw her eyes widen in mock surprise.

She smiled so brightly that it could light up the room and said in the sweetest voice ever, "It's a surprise to see you here. Are you ill?"

I could almost taste the saccharine dripping from her words, and I grimaced inwardly.

Such a snake!

Ignoring her, I turned to Julian. "I want to speak with you," I said, and Julian raised his brows at me.

He opened his mouth to speak, but a shrill cry from Emily stopped him.

"It hurts," she cried, pointing to her leg, hand, and head.

Was it all part of her body that was hurting her?

"What's wrong?" Julian questioned genuine surprise in his eyes.

I couldn't resist the urge to snort.

"I don't feel too good, Julian. Please, can you take me home?" she asked.

"Of course," Julian nodded. He straightened and turned to me, "You can take care of yourself, Avery. I'll see you, maybe later."

Julian pushed Emily away and into his car while I stood rooted to the spot, watching him.

I wanted to run after his car, jump in front of it, and demand he respond to me before leaving, yell his name until he reply me, but I couldn't move. I could only whimper while watching as he drove out of the lot.

I watched his car until it went out of sight, and I stepped towards my car, driving home rather than the office due to the exhaustion washing over me.

As soon as I got home, I was totally exhausted, emotionally and physically. I locked the door behind me; my hand fell as I noticed the blood outside the door, stopping at my feet.

My eyes widened as they caught the trail of blood running down my thighs. "Oh no," I gasped as I felt a searing pain in my stomach.

I stumbled towards the only sofa in the room clutched my head as it suddenly felt light. But I didn't get to the sofa.

My knees buckled, my legs giving way behind me, and I fell to the ground with a thud on my stomach.

"Please, not my baby," I cried, clutching my stomach tightly as the pain got even more intense.

"Save me, moon goddess," I whispered as my eyes fluttered close, but before I gave in to the darkness that surrounded me, I heard the faint whimper of a baby, calling and reaching out to me.

My baby. It was gone.
