LOGINRaven's POV
I turned to look at the confused maid. I rushed to the drawer, opened it, and found something even more shocking.
Not only had Lila taken Rune from me, but she had also copied my lifestyle.
The clothes in the wardrobe were the same as mine, and even the makeup brands were identical.
How was this even possible?
What was she thinking?
What the hell did she plan to do?
“My lady, are you okay?” the new maid asked.
I didn’t respond, turning back to the closet before me. My breath shook with the effort to hold back tears.
Why do I feel so insecure?
Lila and I used to wear similar dresses to make people believe we were twins for fun.
She used to borrow my things, because we were sisters.
And now that we are grown-ups. I didn't expect her to still do this. It was as if she was trying to be me!
Leaning against the wall, I wondered how I'd allowed all of this to happen.
Why would she do this? Why did she want the man I loved so bad? Why would she do this to me?
I stared at the closet, stocked with the same makeup products I use.
I shook my head again, knowing this was all my fault. Just as I was lost in thought, the door opened.
Rune.
God, even the sight of him forced my wolf to growl in anger.
“What is going on here?” Rune glared at me, then at the maid, who had her head downcast.
“Why are both of you here?" He asked. "The maid was asked to clean the closet, not you."
“Leave,” I ordered the maid. She bowed and left.
I turned to Rune, whose eyes were red with anger. “I can explain, Rune. Just listen to me.”
“No!" He growled. “Why are you in your sister's room? Don't you think you're invading her privacy?"
He was right, but could he at least hear me out? I sighed, wishing he would listen.
As he stared at me, I wondered if I could trust him with the truth about Lila.
How can I trust a man who would choose her over me? I felt lost, not knowing what to say.
“The maid asked me to help,” I explained.
“I thought I should show her how to clean Lila’s room.”
“Oh, really?” It was Lila’s voice. To my shock, she was in the room too.
How did she get here with Rune at the same time?
I looked at Rune, then at Lila standing face-to-face with me.
“I believed you to be a good Luna, Raven,” Lila’s tone shifted to a whine. “But what sort of Luna invades people’s privacy?”
She glanced at Rune, who touched her shoulder. “You've always been this way, haven't you? I should have known you would never change."
Rune’s eyes were filled with pity for her. Who else could it be for?
Her eyes narrowed. "Or were you stealing something?"
"What the hell, Lila?" I retorted. "Why would I steal your stuff?"
“Then how can you use your authority to be so manipulative?” Lila accused, latching on to Rune.
Rune stepped closer to me, his eyes filled with anger.
“I should have known you had something to do with that man from the hospital,” Rune snarled. “Are you cheating on me? Who is the real father of those babies?”
My heart raced, filled with hurt and anger. This was getting too much for me. How could he accuse me of cheating on him?
“How can you say such nonsense?!” My voice was loud and echoed in the room. “You know you’re the only man I’ve been with.
You are my mate, Rune, and I will never do that to you!"
Rune didn’t speak. He stood before me, rubbing Lila's arm in a comforting gesture.
Seeing them together made me want to finish them with a knife.
I wonder if he'd ever cared for me and our babies.
"That man was just there to comfort me, you know why?"
Somehow, I found Myself starting to tell a lie. I want to piss him off.
"Because I lost our babies in an accident!"
I looked into his eyes expecting something different but he laughed, looking at Lila who was still crying.
“You think I don’t know you, Raven,” he said.
" You're lying, aren't you?" Just to get a bit more attention? Honestly, why are you always like this? Got nothing to do everyday and always try to -"
"Stop! Shut up!"
Could he really speak to me like that? I looked at him, disbelieving.
I could no longer take this. I had to do something to save myself.
“I want a divorce, Rune, and I'm leaving this pack." the wolf inside me pushed the truth out.
“I will get the papers ready. All you have to do is sign it."
For the first time, I saw Rune froze. "A... A divorce?"
I nodded, feeling hatred for him spread in my chest. "I no longer want anything to do with you. Anything at all!"
Suddenly, Rune let go of Lila and grabbed my hand, yanking me towards the door.
“What? Let me go!” I shouted, hitting him with my free hand.
“What are you saying?” he demanded.
“I want a divorce, Rune. I want it now. You can be with Lila for all I care.
You’ve never loved me since the first year of this marriage, anyway.
I cannot keep enduring this emotional torment. It's over between us!"
Rune stepped closer to me, and I staggered backwards in alarm. He snarled, his breath hot on my face.
“You can’t end our marriage until I ask for it. You have no right!"
“And what makes you think that?”
I laughed and turned to leave. But he forced me back and pinned me against the wall.
“Let me go, Rune, or I swear on the Moon, you won't like what I will do." I growled.
He pushed me further, our bodies pressed against the wall. His hand touched mine, and our eyes locked. The room fell silent.
For a moment, I wished he would always look at me this way, but no, there was another woman. There was my sister.
"How about I convince you otherwise?" He whispered. And before I could contemplate his words, he leaned forward for a kiss.
When his lips touched mine, I felt good, more than good. I didn’t want him to stop.
To my surprise, I found myself raising my hand to run my fingers through his hair.
My body asked for him, but my heart asked for better.
I froze as I realized what he was doing. I pushed him away and left the room, not looking back.
Raven Logan barely had time to take off his hoodie before I reached for him again.I didn’t mean to.It wasn’t planned. My body just moved on its own like some leftover panic was still stuck inside me and touching him was the only way to quiet it.He didn’t pull away.He let me grip the front of his shirt and lean against him for a second, like he understood that I needed that tiny moment to make sure he was real.“You didn’t eat.” His voice was quiet but firm.“I wasn’t hungry.”“You still should’ve eaten.”I rolled my eyes at the tone, but my voice came out softer than I meant. “I was a bit busy worrying whether you were alive.”His jaw twitched, like my words hit him harder than I intended.Aella cleared her throat from behind us. “As much as I love watching emotional reunions, I’m going to bed before I turn into a third wheel. Kids are sleeping. Keep your volume low.”Logan shot her a glare. She smirked, waved at him, then disappeared down the hallway. The house went quiet again,
RavenThe house was quieter than usual, the kind of quiet that made every small sound feel very loud and obvious. The faint ticking of the wall clock, the soft hum of the heater, Aella flipping through a children’s book on the couch while the twins leaned against her… everything sounded too sharp. Too too obvious. I sat at the edge of the dining table, elbows on my knees, hands clasped so tightly my knuckles had gone pale. I tried to steady my breathing, but it kept slipping, breaking, fluttering in my chest like a bird desperate to get out.Logan had been gone for hours. He said he’d check in.He said he’d be quick. He said he’d come back the very same way he left. But every minute that passed felt like another invisible fist pushing down on my lungs.Aella lifted her head. “You’re going to chew through your lip if you keep doing that.”I blinked. I hadn’t even realized I was biting it.“I’m I’m fine,” I murmured.“No. You’re not.”I didn’t respond. I didn’t have the energy for a li
LOGAN’S POVNight was drawing close as we rode deeper into Moonfyre territory. The air was cold, colder than it should’ve been for autumn, and every breath left a faint white cloud in front of me.But even the icy wind couldn’t numb the heaviness lodged in my chest.I kept hearing Raven’s voice, raw, broken, furious.“This is all your fault, Logan!”I inhaled slowly, letting the ache settle in deeper. Raymond rode beside me, silent as always, though I caught him glancing my way more than once. Probably checking if I was going to break apart before we reached Seraphine’s home.I wouldn’t. I didn’t have that privilege.“Alpha,” Raymond finally murmured, adjusting the cloak around his shoulders. “We’re close.”I nodded once. “I know.”The scent of ash was faint but unmistakable. The wind carried it straight to us, threading through the cold air like smoke trailing from an extinguished candle. My jaw flexed.Seraphine hadn’t deserved to die alone here. Not like this. And Raven… Raven dese
RAVEN'S POV"Raven? Are you awake?”A knock followed Aella's voice from the door, and I cupped a hand over the flickering flame of my candle, to steady it, as I answered, “yes, come in.”I furrowed my brows as I shot a worried glance at the connecting door, the room had been quiet for so long that even the smallest sound felt like a shatter, and I didn't want Aurora or Reed to awaken.I dragged my sleeve across my face, smearing away tears that had already dried and cracked on my cheeks as the door creaked open.Aella stepped in, still in her tunic, her hair half undone like she hadn’t slept either. She gave me a warm smile as she made forward and sat down beside me on the bed.“Why aren't you asleep?” She asked and I shrugged, shoving down the knot in my throat.“I was, I just woke up…before you knocked.”Aella nodded, then placed a warm, gentle hand on my arm. “I came to take the children,” she said quietly. “So you can get a well deserved rest tonight.”I tried to smile, but it di
AELLA'S POV The heavens began to pour.It came soft at first, tapping the glass like a whisper, but then it gathered strength, drumming against the panes until the sound filled every corner of my chamber. The sound was almost comforting, and perhaps it would've if only the gloominess of the weather didn't match mine.I sat curled on the edge of my bed, elbows propped on top of my knees, and my chin resting on my palms. My cloak lay abandoned on the chair, a heap of dark wool that smelled faintly of sweat and the damp hallways I’d walked through earlier. I hadn’t bothered to change out of my boots either even as it left slight dirt marks on the floor.I'd just have to clean up later. The hearth was unlit. I couldn’t bring myself to light it. The shadows suited my mood too and that of the whole castle since Raven got the news of her aunt's demise.Seraphine, I'd known the woman well, well enough to understand that she loved her family, her children and her nieces, yes, even Lila. Now
RAVEN’S POVThe world went quiet when I finished reading my aunt's letter. The scrawled words, strong, elegant, despite what they conveyed, stared back at me. The ink smudged in places as if she’d written it in haste, or in pain. “If you’re reading this, then I’m already gone from this world.”I found myself muttering the last words under my breath as my chest began to constrict and tighten painfully.I didn’t realize I’d dropped the paper until it fluttered onto the floor, landing near my feet like a fallen leaf. I placed a shaky hand to my throat as I tried to control my splintering resolve, trying to convince myself that maybe the letter was all wrong. Maybe I’d read it all wrong This was a lingering thought, but I knew the truth. My throat cinched. For a long moment, I just stood there, staring down at the letter, trying to breathe through the hollowness yawning in my chest.“Aunt Seraphine's dead…” I whispered. Then a loud scream of sorrow and acceptance, split through me, wit
