Chapter Six

Selena's POV

My mind was a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts. I was skeptical about seeking help from the Alpha. the memory of the rage and disgust in his eyes for me still lingers, the thought of it sends chills down my spine.

"Just seek his help! it's not like you can afford the money", Ember snapped jolting me out of my reverie, I could tell she was getting pissed with my hesitation.

I cast a final glance at my mom lying on the bed with an oxygen mask covering her nose, her complexion had already paled. I couldn't bear to see her in such a state, I blinked back the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes and rushed out of the hospital.

With my mindset, I made my way to the Alpha's mansion. I didn't have enough money for the cab, I had to trek.

Arriving at the mansion, a chilling feeling found its way through my spine, I could feel a surge of discomfort, every step I took, I remembered what happened weeks ago.

I took a deep breath and knocked on the gate, the gate was swung open revealing one of the guards.

"Selena? What brings you here?" he asked, Suprise evident in his voice, I tried to cover my worries with my smile. "Yeah, I came to see the Alpha," I responded.

Unfortunately, he wouldn't let me in, this was a serious order given to them by Ravenna. "I'm sorry Selena, I might lose my job if I let you in" he explained

But hell, my mom's life was in drastic danger.

"Please I need to the Alpha, my mother's life is at stake here" I pleaded, tears streaming down my cheeks, I couldn't hide my worries anymore.

"Selena, you have to understand, I could lose my job", his eyes filled with sympathy

Suddenly a car honked behind me drawing my attention, I turned to see who it could be, the driver got out of the car and quickly went to open the door of the back seat, a sense of worry washed over me when I saw Ravenna stepping out of the car adorned in a stunning silk red gown,

"Oh no she's here," Ember said worriedly.

"What the hell is this b*tch doing here?" She stormed, approaching us with anger in her eyes.

"I'm sorry Luna, please I need to meet with the Alpha" I pleaded, hoping she would consider.

"Are you out of your mind? Do you want to meet with Gabriel, so you can seduce him again? You shameless slut" she rained on me with insults.

"Please, my mother is in the hospital, she'll die…" I tried explaining, but my words were cut short, "who cares about your mother, I guess she'll be just as shameless as you are" she sneered

Her words pierced into my heart like an arrow, more tears streaming down my cheeks, I could sense Ember growing angrier within me

"Selena, I suggest we go, I don't think she would want you to see the Alpha," Ember said

But how can I leave ?.… my mom's life is at stake here

I fell to my knees, pleading with her "I'll do anything you want me to do, please I just need a word with the Alpha, it's very urgent please"

"And do you think Gabriel will want to speak with someone like you? Hilarious" she mocked me.

"Please Luna, my mom's life is at stake, I can't afford to lose her, please let me speak to the Alpha"

"In your dreams, both you and your mother can go to hell for all I care!", she spat. "And you, the next time I see her anywhere around here, that will be your last day working here", she said referring to the guard who was already trembling in fear of being sacked

She gazed at me with a disgusting look as she walked past me, the guard opened the gate wider for her to enter, and I could see the pity for me in his eyes before closing the gate.

I sat on the floor as I sobbed harder, the thought of losing my mother scared me to the core, the Alpha was my only hope, and Ravenna wouldn't allow me to see him. Why does life have to be cruel and unjust toward me?

"Selena it's okay, get a hold of yourself", Ember said

"There's no hope left for me again Ember, I'm going to lose my mom, I failed her as a daughter," I said crying harder."

" You just can't give up, you haven't spoken with the Alpha remember?" she said

"But how can I speak to him, Ravenna wouldn't allow me to see him, you saw everything that happened"

"What of his office?" She suggested

That's right….. his office, why didn't I think of it?

A glimmer of hope surged through me, since it was still noon, he might still be at the office because if he was inside, he would have come out due to the noise.

I quickly rose to my feet, brushing off the dirt from my dress wiped away the tears staining my cheek, and made my way out of the estate. I will have to go to the Alpha's office.

After about an hour I arrived at the Alpha's company, it was a huge ten-story building. It was my first time being here,nervously I entered the building, seeking guidance from the security to the main entrance to the office.

Goddess please touch his heart and let him help me

As I approached the entrance, nervousness filled my entire system. Taking a deep breath, I mustered the courage to push open the transparent glass door, I met a lady at the front desk who I assume is the receptionist.

She was so engrossed in her work on the system, that she didn't notice my presence.

"Good afternoon ma'am" I greeted politely, hoping to grab her attention

She paused her work, raising her head to meet my gaze. " Good afternoon, how can I help you" she asked

"Please I'm here to see the Alpha" I replied, my heart racing within my chest.

She raised her eyebrows, scrutinizing my look, it was obvious my desire to see the Alpha surprised her

"Do you have an appointment with him?", she inquired, her tone slightly skeptical

"No, but it's important I see him", I replied my voice filled with urgency

"I'm sorry, but you can't see the Alpha without an appointment, she said, returning her attention to the computer, it was obvious that she had discarded me.

I retraced my step out of the office feeling dejected, but I couldn't give up just yet, the Alpha was my only hope for my mom to survive. I decided to stay within the office premises until the Alpha emerged.

It didn't take long before I spotted the Alpha stepping out of the office, dressed in a black tuxedo suit exuding a domineering aura as the driver approached him to collect the suitcase from him.

He was about to get inside the car when I rushed to him, surprise flickered across his face but soon replaced by anger.

"G- Good afternoon Alpha" I stuttered, my body trembling with fear

"What are you doing here? How dare you step your foot into this premises?", he demanded, his eyes cold and piercing as he glared at me

His questions made me flinched, his voice sending chills down my spine, I couldn't dare look at him in the eyes.

"Alpha, please I desperately need your help, my mom is in à critical condition in the hospital and requires immediate treatment, please I beg you to save my mother, she's the only family I have" I pleaded, desperately hoping he help me.

He looked at me, his expression unreadable. "Why should I help you? You're nothing to me," he retorted coldly, "I have no obligation to give you anything."

My heart sank. I had no other options, no one else I could turn to. "Please, Alpha," I begged. "She's dying and I can't bear to lose her, she's the only family I have"

Tears welled up in my eyes as I raised my head to look at him, however his next words struck me like a dagger.

"Women like you can do anything for money, you came using your mother's name as an excuse to beg for money, you should be ashamed" he sneered, his words laced with disdain

Did he think such of me? …..I'll never stoop so low to such an extent.

I fell on my knees, tears flowing uncontrollably down my cheeks, "Alpha, I swear on my mother's life, I'm not doing this to extort money from you. My mom is in à critical condition, please, I beg you, save her", I pleaded desperately, clasping my hands together.

"And you think I'll believe your fabricated story? you didn't succeed in making your way to my heart after seducing me, and you think extorting money from me is your next move? you disgust me", he coldly retorted

His hurtful words struck me deeply, leaving me speechless, "Alpha, I….I didn't…."

"Enough!!!", he interrupted,his voice filled with anger,i want you out of here this instant ", he ordered

My heart sank as the wave of panic surged through me, I can't afford to lose my mom, I wont forgive myself if anything happened to her,

"Please Alpha, have mercy on me, I'm not lying, you have to believe me, my mom is in a critical condition" I pleaded my voice trembling as I crawled towards his feet.

Suddenly,two security guards came to grabbed me roughly by the arm, "Get her out of here and I never want to see her anywhere around this premises" " the Alpha commanded, and got inside the car, leaving me feeling utterly shattered.

I struggled to free myself from their tight grip but my efforts were in vain. As the car drove away out of the premises, the guards forcefully dragged me out of the premises, I could see some staff gathering to witness the scene.

I felt embarrassed, humiliated, and useless. I couldn't save my mom, the Alpha who was my only hope refused to render help.

"It's okay Selena, stop crying, we'll figure a way out" Ember consoled me, she was hurt too

"There's no way again ember, there's no one I can turn to, I have failed as a daughter, I couldn't save my mom", I sobbed uncontrollably.

At this moment I was lost, not knowing what to do or where to go. Why does fate have to be so cruel to me? Why has the goddess decided to punish me this way?

"Selena!!!", Ember exclaimed happily in my head jolting me out of my thoughts, I don't know why of a sudden she's happy, but I ignored her.

" Selena, there's a way!!!" She said happily. "Why don't we call Asher?" She suggested

"You think so?" I asked unsurely

"Of course, remember he gave you his card in case you need his help and this is the perfect time for that, I'm positive about this" Ember said, reassuring me.

Why didn't I think of it

A glimmer of hope surged through me as I searched my bag for the card.
