I woke the next morning to my alarm clock blaring and my head pounding like someone was hammering down my temples. Hannah was glaring down at me, fully dressed with my arms crossed. I stared around a few minutes, a bit disoriented.
I tried to open my mouth to speak but I felt weak to my bones. I tried to speak again and instead began to cough. I sat up quickly still coughing. Hannah went away and reappeared with a glass of water which she handed to me. She sat beside me and patted my back as I drank the water.
I emptied the cup in my stomach surprised at how thirsty I was. I wiped my brow and my hands were slick with sweat. I stared at my clothes a bit confused, the air condition was on yet I was sweating.
Hannah cleared her throat. She had a serious look on her face, the kind she always assumed when she wanted to say something she felt I might not like. “You have to see a doctor Lexi and you’re calling in sick at work today.”
I said, “No, I have tons of things to do at the office. You know Eve and if she sees me slacking, she could just take over my clients and you know how she is.”
“I understand your concerns Lexi but your wellbeing is also important too. You can’t go to work in this condition. You need to see a doctor."
“It’s no big deal Hannah” I said exasperatedly, “It’s probably just food poisoning or something. You know how I tried the meal from the new restaurant across the street, that’s probably the reason. I just need a cold shower or something and I’d be good to go.”
“You’re as stubborn as a mule and there’s probably nothing I can say to change your mind.” Hannah stood and grabbed her handbag. “Alright then, see you later in the evening and please, be fine Lex. I love you okay?”
“Love you too Han Bar.” I smiled at her affectionately calling her by the nickname I’d coined for her shortly after we met. She grinned, gave herself a quick glance in the mirror, patted her electric blue coloured hair and swung her bag over her shoulders. She waved and walked out of the room.
I sat alone in silence for some minutes before dragging myself off the bed and made my way to the bathroom. As I stood, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me yet I couldn’t give in to it. I walked slowly, measuring my steps and noting that every step was difficult. I felt utterly weak and just wanted to crawl into bed, under my covers, take a fetal position and sleep. I felt so sleepy.
However, I had planned to do some snooping to get across to John Rhodes today. I couldn’t afford to slack today. If I did, it gave Eve the chance to outsmart me and for all I knew, Eve might also be on to John Rhodes as well. I had to get to him first before her.
I made a quick detour. Maybe some music would help alleviate my spirit and wake me up. I turned on my Bluetooth speaker, turned up the volume and played some hardcore rock from the speakers, not minding that I was breaking one of the apartment building rules. It was just for today.
The music helped and I felt energized a little bit. I took a cold shower which helped to jolt me awake and cool my growing temperature. I stared at the outfit I’d chosen the previous day and decided against it. It was a maroon coloured dress with an elaborate arm. I scanned my wardrope and instead chose my comfort, simple yet classy white plain dress with a single flower design that ran from the left shoulder to my stomach, like a form of sash. It fell a little above my ankle and was just really perfect for how I felt.
Instead of the chignon, I’d wanted to pack my hair in previously; I combed out my curly locks and even combed out the bangs. The hair fell nicely around me, it was a few inches below my bra line, close to my waist. I’d have to visit the hairdresser’s soon was a cut. I’d probably cut the bangs again too, they were a little too long and falling a bit into my eyes.
I didn’t have the heart for a full makeup. So, I applied some lip gloss and wore my comfortable ballerina flats.
I stared in the full length mirror of my room and was pleased with the results, I felt comfortable and still looked a bit presentable. Certainly not my best but it would have to do for today. I didn’t even care if all my colleagues would be looking over my five foot one inches self. Actually, I was a little below five foot one but I never told anyone that. When approximated, my height came to five foot one and that’s what I always told everyone.
I applied some cologne and left the apartment Just then, I got a call from Maria, my self-professed office wife and work bestie. I walked into the elevator, punched in the button for the last floor with my phone in my ear.
“Hello beautiful!” Maria’s cheery voice said over the phone.
“At least one of us is happy this morning.”
“What’s up? Are you fine?”
I sighed. “No, nothing. I’m just a little woozy that’s all. I think I have food poisoning.”
“Goodness!” Maria exclaimed, “Why didn’t you call in sick then?”
“Nah. Have to get some work done.”
“There goes my work wife being a workaholic.”
“It’s office wife and work bestie idiot.” I said jokingly.
“Nuhhhh. Definitely work wife. There’s an alliteration in it!”
I laughed. Maria was ever, the grammar expert. She did major in English Language while she was in college. I said, “Coffee from our place?”
“Truthfully, that was why I called but I don’t know if you fell up to it considering your wooziness.”
“It’s alright. I’ll grab it on my way.”
“Thanks work wife. You’re the best, see you soon!”
I laughed as the phone died in my ear. Maria wouldn’t ever budge to call me her office wife. I guess I was stuck with work wife until forever.
I made my way out of the apartment building and decided against taking my car. For some reason, I wanted to take the bus and just not battle the mental stress of driving and navigating traffic myself.
Thankfully, the 8am bus was just about to leave from the bus station, so I was able to catch it. That gave me about an hour to get to work and also get some coffee from I and Maria’s favorite café which was a little away from the office but still along the route to the office.
I got on the bus and saw an empty seat by the window which I took. I admired the view of the beautiful city I lived in as the bus began its journey.
I got down at the café, Stevie’s Coffee Shop, that was the name. As I got in, I immediately sighted Stevie at the counter and made my way towards him. I beamed at him and fought a wave of nausea and the smell of coffee and baked pastries in the café. This was weird. I loved Stevie’s. I loved the smell, I loved everything that made it Stevie’s yet why the sudden nausea?
I ignored it, blaming it on the food poisoning and tried to keep my smile on. Stevie smiled at me. “Hello, little lady!”
“Hi Stevie.” I said, trying to match his enthusiasm despite how weak I felt.
Steve reached across the counter and patted my cheeks. “You okay hun? You look a bit pale and your temperature is a little above normal. You alright?”
When he spoke more than one sentence, Stevie’s thick Italian accent showed. I nodded and swatted his hand away from my left cheek playfully. “Come on Stevie, your little lady is fine.”
Stevie hesitated like he wanted to say something to me and instead smiled. He said, “The usual to go?”
“You got it!”
He smiled at me again with his brown eyes twinkling and brushed a stray strand of his brown curls away from his face. He went to get my order ready and I sat on one of the stools at the counter.
I paired at my watch, 8:25am. I was still on time.
Stevie appeared with a paper bag customized with Stevie’s Coffee Shop in yellow and the silhouette of a woman drinking coffee on it. I handed him my credit card and he shook his head, “It’s on the house my little lady.”
“Really? Why thank you Stevie! Maria would be so elated.”
“I also added some of that Croissant you two like to the order.”
I couldn’t help the large smile on my face. “Thank you Stevie! That’s mighty generous of you.”
Stevie smiled and said quietly, “I’m always here for you my lady.”
I smiled and tried not to think too much into his words. Maria and Hannah believed he had a crush on me but I didn’t exactly believe so. I mean, not every guy who is nice to me and gives me coffee for free has to have romantic interest in me right? Plus Stevie might be a little too old for me. I didn’t know his age but I think he was probably in his late thirties to early forties which is too old to date by my standards. I was only twenty six!
I fought another wave of dizziness as I climbed down the stool. I stood for a moment until my vision cleared before walking towards the door. However as I walked, I felt my vision become blurry and blurry and my head getting lighter and lighter.
I don’t know if I opened the door or how it happened exactly but I found myself colliding with a strong solid mass, strong arms catching me and then kind piercing blue eyes looking into mine. Then everything went black.
ALEXIS’ POVI opened my eyes and the brightness of the sun alerted me that it was probably nearly ten o’clock. I took in my surroundings and saw that I was sitting on a plus leather chair with all the upholstery black in a car. The chair was thrown back and I was in a relaxed position. I tried to sit up and felt warm hands guide me up and adjust the car seat. I stared at a face that felt vaguely familiar. He had brown hair, properly styled and gelled away from his face and piercing blue eyes. There was something kind about his eyes and familiar about it. It felt like I could trust him with my deepest, darkest secrets. “Are you alright Miss?”I nodded. “Yes, w-what happened?”He handed me a bottle of water which I opened and finished in one gulp. I stared at the bottle, amazed at how thirsty, I was. He handed me another bottle and I finished it too. “You fainted, Miss. Should I take you to the hospital?”“No!” I shook my head vehemently and fighting another wave of dizziness. What i
Alexis POVI had grown up in this quaint little house with its tinted windows and charming seclusion. The next house was about ten minutes away. The interior of the house was pretty much the same even after all these years, a plush center rug for the table in the middle of the living room, a beautiful fire place, a dinning area, a couple of sofas, and a door that led to the kitchen. There were still the small marks I’d left on the white walls using my crayons all those many years ago. I couldn’t help but smile at the marks. The living room was still decorated with a large dose of my pictures. There was a wall filled with pictures that chronicled my growth from being a baby up until a few months back, the picture I’d taken at my company’s Christmas party last December. Mum had the picture printed and frame and she’d hung it on her collection of memories with me and of me. There was the picture I’d taken when I was eight with Mum. It was still my favourite picture ever. Mum had hugged
MAX’S POVI sat in my office unable to concentrate on work. It was a little past 2pm yet I couldn’t get my conversation with John Rhodes out of my mind.I’d spoken to the private investigator he recommended and I’d scheduled a meeting with him by 3pm. He was also coming with a professional sketch artist, someone who could have a composite sketch of my mystery red haired. My phone beeped and the caller ID revealed that it was my mother. I hadn’t spoken to her in a while so I decided to take the call. “Hi Mum.”“Hello Maxwell. I have to say that it’s been a while. A long while.”My Mum was a woman of few words so she never minced them. She was always direct, precise and straight to the point. She was never one to beat around the bush. I sighed. “I know Mum but I…” I couldn’t go further. How was I to explain the events of the last few weeks to her? Even I was still grappling with these events. I still haven’t unraveled it or understood it myself.“Come home Max. You’ve been away for so
ALEXIS’ POV“Alexis, Alexis, ALEXIS!” I heard Hannah calling my name but I didn’t have the heart to respond. I heard her footsteps as she walked towards my bed and yanked the covers off my body. “You need to get out of bed Lexi. Get up.”I didn’t relent. I took reached down to grab hold of the cover and return them to my body without bothering to look at Hannah. Instead, Hannah grabbed my hands and said, “What’s wrong with you Lexi? You’re scaring me! You’ve been in bed for five days straight barely getting up for anything else except to puke and pee and you’re not even eating. You’re not talking to me and you’re not working too. That’s very unlike you. Please talk to me. I am bothered about you. Your Mum has been calling nonstop and you’re not talking to her too. What is the matter?”I pulled my hands from Hannah’s grip and curled deeper into a myself in a fetal position. After I got out of my Mum’s house a few days ago, I’d called work to use up my leave days and then I’d spent th
ALEXIS’ POV It was two days after my big discussion with Hannah. She had finally left my side after taking out two off days just to be with me and ‘take care of me’. Her choice of words not mine. We’d talked about the pregnancy, eaten some good food which I always ended up puking, saw movies even if I always dozed off on her and then just had a really good time. My mood was lifted and I felt better. This was what was powering me up for the big decision I was going to take today. I was going to the doctor to get an abortion. Hannah already booked my session with one of the best Doctor’s in town. However, this particular hospital was actually a maternity hospital. I didn’t see how that would be a problem. It only made it evident that the doctor was skilled in cases of childbearing, pregnancy and abortion. After Hannah left for work, I got up and took a nice, long warm shower and then pulled my pale looking body into a white dress. Once again, I couldn’t bear to see the other colours
MAX’ POVI couldn’t contain my restlessness. Kyle Bowen was on his way to see me. I’d pressed him for news over the phone but he wouldn’t relent. Only saying that it was something we could discuss only when we saw. This was why he was coming to see me. I tried to do many things to calm myself. I drank some tea which Penelope brewed, stared out the window, tried to do some calculative work to numb my brain, tried meditating, tried counting backwards and forwards. Shit, I even tried listening to music but for reason, nothing was working. My mind was still jittery. Penelope must have sensed my anticipation because she sent Kyle Bowen in without calling me to ask if he should come in or not. Once again, Penelope got points for efficiency. Kyle smiled warmly at me as I shook his hands. We sat on the sofa in my office, still taking up the last positions we’d sat in the previous time he’d come to my office. I didn’t bother beating around the bush. “Tell me Kyle. What’s the update please?
ALEXIS’ POVI was on my way to dinner with John Rhodes and his beautiful family. I particularly had something to celebrate; for starters, Rhodes Co-operation was back in business with FunDeets under the clause that I would remain their sole contact in the deals. They’d also bought into my idea and were going to do things like I’d said. Secondly, I was going to dine with the awesome John Rhodes and his family! I’d made an acquaintance with a multibillionaire. That was awesome. I was particularly looking forward to meeting his daughter who from her photos reminded me of myself when I was younger. I pulled into a simple black gate and was scared for a moment that I’d gotten lost. However, GPS said I was on track with the address I’d typed into it. The gate pulled open and I drove in. A smiling security man waved me in and I was amazed at the simplicity of John Rhodes’ house. I don’t know what I was expecting but whatever I was expecting did not measure up at all to what I was staring a
MAX’S POVAfter, I morphed back to my human form; I located my car and I realized that it was very late at night. Yes, I could still drive back to my house but for some reason, I didn’t want to. I drove lazily around on the dirt road that led out of the forest before I saw a hotel close by. I decided to spend the night in it. Interestingly, the name of the hotel was Selene’s Stay. The proximity to the woods and the strange name made me confident it was built by a werewolf. Why else would anyone build a magnificent hotel, a little out of town and with the name of their goddess? Except the person wasn’t a werewolf. This made me a bit confident about spending the night at the hotel. I’d definitely have to meet its owner soon and gain some insights of why they chose to own such a hotel. I handed my keys over to the valet and walked in. The receptionist was a striking woman with a face that made it hard to place her age and she had white, silver hair. I smiled. This hotel definitely ree
AMELIA'S POVI sighed when I woke up; my eyes felt dizzy, and I cleaned my eyes.My eyes met the wall clock, and I froze. What the duck was the time, 11 am?Just now it was 5:30 pm. And I was getting ready to go to the party that was being held at the Liberty house, not after Max had come in and stretched my legs.. making them sore.I stood up, and although my legs felt like jelly, I managed to get up….walking out of the room.I went down the stairs, my eyes looking around for Max.He was seated on the couch with our babies.. in the crib and he was feeding them something from their little bottles."Baby," I called. "Was the party postponed to this evening?" I asked, walking to the couch."You walk beautifully, baby." He mumbled, winking at me."And oh, the party was held last night..you fainted, so you couldn't attend." He said with a serious face.I glared at him, anger rising to my throat. How fucking dare him?! He was the reason I didn't attend. I wanted to.He had fucked me last n
AMELIA'S POVA party was being held in the Liberty House.A week from now, and they'll be signing a peace pact with the hunters.I sighed, watching my little kids in their crib while I dressed for the partyThey were going to stay with Crystabelle at the party. The woman had made them her kids ever since they got back."Look how pretty your mama is; isn't she looking hot for mom today?" I asked, staring at my little peanuts."Oh please...not now; I'm shy when it comes to cameras; please don't..." I paused and chuckled. "or you can eat this shit instead." I leaned down and began to twerk my ass."Yeah! Eat this shit!" I caused twerking."Yeah, I can eat this shit whenever you want." I stilled. My eyes widened as I turned to watch Max leaning on the door.He looked so hot in that signature suit of his and his hair...Fuck! He was a Greek God. He looked smokingly hot as he watched me with those lustful eyes that said so many things. And one was to damn this party and pound me into the m
MAX'S POVThe remaining hunters began to leave, dropping their guns and ammunition as they vowed never to cross the border again.Luke was dead, and so was Analita and some of the wolves and hybrids created by Luke.I stood in front of the car, arms pressed together, as I watched Rick order the men about what to do concerning the ammunition."The war is over." He said, coming to stand beside me."I guess so," I said, a smile forming on my lips."There's nothing to be happy about yet." He said."Shut up, Rick!" I glared at him, as he held out his bandaged arm."Oh...I think it's time to go meet Amelia and fuck her to death. I'm sure she's probably jumping on her bed while carrying her little peanuts." Rick said."You're making me regret the fact of bandaging that arm for you," I said.My phone rang and I picked it up."Baby.""They're home. They were brought to the house as mail. They were mailed to the house." Her voice was brighter than the whole day. Even the sun couldn't compare."
LUKE'S POVMy Men and I surrounded the east part of where the hunters were hiding.Analita and her men surrounded the west, while Max and his men took both the south and the North. After the death of many of their men, the hunters had taken refuge in their mansion, and none was coming out.I signaled one of my men to go through the open door.Another followed, and another followed."We've gotten in, Max," I mumbled to the transducer that was attached to my ears."Okay, Analita will take the other side to go in, and then we will barge in if there's any problem." Based on what we've gone through, using guns on these people was better, but I couldn't wait to shred that animal to pieces. He had tried to convince Eve about betraying me and killing my child. Our child!"And one more thing, Luke. Follow the code; if we lose this change because of you, I'll kill you myself." Max said.I rolled my eyes, Ignoring his grunts as I stepped into the Mansion as well.A bullet flew past me and hit t
LUKE'S POVMy head was banging hard as I drove to the mansion.I had long suspected Eve using me, but I had brushed it off the moment I saw how helpless she was.She was dying, and she was carrying my child. Tears burned the back of my head, blocking my vision as I drove faster.. speeding up till there was nothing in sight.I pulled off at the front of the Mansion, throwing my keys to one of my men."Sir.""Yes?" I looked up, a scowl on my face, as I watched him cower."Talk right this instant!""Doctor Gabrielle came, and she's attending to Miss Eve right now. I was told to let you know about it."I nodded, hurrying inside. No matter how evil she was, I was not going to kill her. She was going to be my baby's mother. I hurried up the stairs, taking three steps at a time, until I was just in front of her door."Is there a problem, doctor?" I asked, looking around as my friend deepened.I didn't like that look at all."There's a problem with Miss Eve, I don't know what she took, but
MAX'S POVI wasn't seeing anything other than red.Red blood clouded my vision as I held onto my sword so tight.I watched my men as they began to prepare to leave for the war.My men at the forefront were doing good. A hundred hunters were dead at the moment, and I would not stop till I was sure my children were fine and brought home.FLASHBACK...I had gone home with Rick to get some things Amelia would use since she was asked to stay in the hospital by the nurses. When I arrived at the hospital, Amelia was asleep, and the children...my children were nowhere to be found. After I had successfully taken out the wolfsbane mixed with sedatives that had been injected into Amelia's body...she woke up."Are you back? I don't know what happened; I just fell asleep out of nowhere." She said, cleaning her face with her hand. Her eyes went to the crib, and she sighed."Who's with the kids? Is it Rick?" The question burned my whole body right into my heart and it was as if...I stopped breathing
AMELIA'S POVWhen I woke up, Max was by my side.He was holding a baby. The baby was very small and I blinked at them.Max holding the baby made me feel a lot more happy than I was supposed to be."Max," I called and he looked up instantly, a smile covering his face."Hey, beautiful.""Hi, Handsome." "See." He leaned down so I could see the baby. "Look at our little Creation." He mumbled.A smile broke off my lips as I stared at the beautiful baby in his arms."A boy and a girl?" I asked, and he nodded."They're so beautiful. Very beautiful." I said and he nodded."And they take after their mother." He said and dropped the baby in the crib."Thank you," I said, sincerely thankful for what he had done.He shook his head."That was nothing." He leaned down and kissed my nose. "Now I know how painful giving birth to a child is, especially an Alpha's kids." He chuckled."You felt it?""I took some of the pain. Of course, I felt it." He said.I felt so tired and sleepy, yet I wanted to be
AMELIA'S POVDon't fret when I tell you that I'm almost due. I was going to give birth to...not just one baby, but twins.Earlier when we had gone for some tests, the doctor convinced us to see our little cutie, but instead...we saw two cuties.I sighed when I brought down my legs from the table.I felt bloated. Like really extremely full.I felt something lick my feet, and I looked up to see Whitney rubbing me with her furs and licking my feet. The first day I arrived in the Homelands after visiting John and Grace and telling Max about our child...he had gotten me a dog, saying in times like these, having a dog was good.I couldn't deny that, because the little puppy that was growing rapidly had become my new friend whenever Max had gone to the office and Crystabelle wasn't coming."What is it, Whitney?" I asked, and it purred."No, stop doing that. I don't want to make chocolate now. I'm so tired, and there's no one here to make that." I whined to Whitney.Compared to humans, wolve
AMELIA'S POVMax's eyes widened, and he stared at me as if I were joking. He shifted until my back was against the table, and then his eyes went to my belly."You're pregnant?" He asked again."Yes, we're having a baby," I said.He chuckled, his eyes meeting mine as he lifted his hand and placed it on my belly."Yes," I said again, as if he didn't hear me. "You're going to be a dad." A deep growl left his throat as he met mine again."We're going to have this one," I said, holding his hand on my belly."We're going to hold this one alive and nothing is going to go wrong," I said.He nodded, like a little child that had been offered the best game in his life."Thank you." He mumbled, pressing a kiss on my cheek."Fuck! I'm going to be a dad. We're going to be parents." He said.I nodded, feeling him place thousands of kisses on my cheek. At this point, my cheek was going to catch fire due to how badly it was burning."Are you okay? You're not supposed to be in this position." He said,
