Chapter 65

Lilith's POV

I observed him cautiously, continuing to assess the situation. He took a few steps closer to me, his hands raised in the air.

"Stop right there! Don't move!" I commanded, still uncertain of his intentions. He immediately froze, his gaze locked onto me. There was something in his eyes, something about the way he looked at me.

His eyes were gentle, and I sensed pity in his gaze. If there was one thing I detested more than anything, it was being pitied.

"I won't harm you, miss. Please believe me; I'm here to help," he reassured me in a soothing tone. Slowly, I lowered the knife I had been holding. I chose to trust him. It seemed evident that he had no intention of harming me. When he saw the knife go down, he let out a sigh of relief.

"I don't mean to intrude, but you seem distressed," he remarked as he approached. "Could you please share with me, miss, what brings a lady like yourself into this dense forest, all alone at this hour?"

I lowered my head and pulled my bag close
