HAZEL POV

"Welcome to my childhood home," Lucian said as he pushed open the heavy wooden door. It creaked ominously, sending a shower of dust into the air.

I stepped inside, immediately getting tangled in cobwebs. "Ugh!" I brushed the sticky strands from my hair and face while trying not to think about the spiders that might have come with them.

"Sorry about that," Lucian chuckled, helping me remove a particularly stubborn strand from my shoulder. "Housekeeping's been a bit lacking since, well, everyone left."

The entrance hall was huge, with a grand staircase sweeping up to the second floor. Moonlight came in through dirty windows. I noticed Lucian's shoulders tensing as he looked around and without thinking, I reached for his hand.

He glanced down at our joined hands, surprise written across his face before it melted into a warm smile. I smiled back and gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

"Come on," he said, pulling me toward one of the walls. "I want to show you something."

He pointed

HAZEL POVI stared at the next page of Lucian's diary. The drawing was incredibly detailed - far more sophisticated than the earlier ones. It showed a couple standing in front of a house, a baby cradled in their arms. But what made my skin crawl was how Lucian had drawn dark lines crossing out the baby's face, the strokes so angry they'd torn through the paper."Lucian..." I whispered, touching the page gently. "What is this?"He let out a bitter laugh. "That's them. My biological parents. And their replacement child.""Replacement?" The word felt heavy in my mouth."Ten years ago, I found them." His voice was eerily calm. "They had this perfect little life in the suburbs. Nice house, good jobs... and a new baby. They adopted a baby. One they actually wanted to keep."I closed the diary, turning to face him. "How did you find them?""It wasn't hard. They kept their same names, same jobs. They didn't even try to hide." His hands clenched into fists. "They abandoned me the day I was bor

HAZELThe book looked old, the edges worn and covered in dust, but it was the symbol on the cover that caught my attention. Something about it felt familiar, like I had seen it before—but where? My fingers hovered over the rough leather, tracing the faint lines of the design. The more I looked, the more I felt like I had to take it with me.“Lucian,” I said, holding the book up. “Do you know what this symbol means?”He frowned, stepping closer to examine it. “No idea. Never seen it before. Why?”“It looks familiar,” I muttered, running my fingers over the design. “Like I’ve seen it somewhere, but I can’t remember where.”Lucian shrugged. “Probably just one of those random symbols people use for decoration. It’s an old book, Hazel. Probably doesn’t mean anything.”I wasn’t so sure. Something about it felt… important. Like it was connected to everything that had been happening lately. I clutched the book tighter. “Can I take this? I want to look into it more.”He raised an eyebrow. “You

HAZELNo wonder it looked familiar, I thought, staring at the symbol on the book. It was the pack’s symbol—the same one I’d seen countless times without realizing its significance. But why was it here, on a book from an orphanage?I turned to Amy, still trying to process everything. “Okay, I get that it’s the pack’s symbol, but why are you so shocked? It’s just a book.”Amy gave me a look like I was missing something obvious. “Hazel, you said you saw records there, right? Among other records of children?”“Yeah,” I said slowly. “So?”“So,” Amy said, her voice rising, “that means someone from our pack dumped a kid in that orphanage. Don’t you see how weird that is?”I shrugged, still not understanding why she was making such a big deal out of it. “I mean, it’s not that shocking. Anyone could’ve placed their child in an orphanage. Maybe they couldn’t take care of them or something.”Amy shook her head, her expression serious. “No, Hazel, you don’t get it. Only high-ranking officials in

HAZEL POVI sat in the cold prison cell, staring at the gray walls that had become my home. The metal chair scraped against the floor as Chief Jared walked in, a smirk on his face that made my wolf want to snarl. But I stayed quiet, watching him through narrowed eyes."Enjoying your stay?" Jared asked, dropping a thick folder on the table. "Must be lonely in here, with no one to save you."I let out a dry laugh. "You mean with all those evidences Lucian gave you? Yeah, I know it was him."The smile dropped from his face. He hadn't expected me to know that. But then he grinned, and it was worse than his anger."Hurts, doesn't it?" he said. "When someone you trust betrays you. Lucian's been very helpful. Years of photos, documentation. He did a thorough job.""What I want to know," I said, leaning forward, "is why you hate us so much. What did werewolves ever do to you, Jared?"His fist came out of nowhere, catching me in the jaw. "You don't get to ask the questions, monster."I spat bl

HAZELI positioned myself strategically near the back of the classroom, my eyes never leaving Taylor Matthews. After our careful strategy session with Lucian and Amy, I knew he was one of our top suspects. The yearbook research had revealed multiple confrontations between him and Darryl—competitive sports rivalries, academic tensions, and some mysterious incidents that never made it to official records. Matthews sat two rows ahead, seemingly relaxed, chatting with his friend Jake about some weekend plans."Dude, you should have seen how wasted Thompson got at the party," Jake laughed, leaning closer to Taylor. "I'm telling you, he was completely out of it."Taylor smirked, his fingers drumming against his notebook. "Thompson's always been weird. Something's off about that guy."My ears perked up. A casual comment about Mr. Thompson? Interesting. I pretended to be engrossed in my biology textbook, but every muscle in my body was focused on their conversation."Speaking of weird," Jake

HAZEL POV"GET. YOUR. HANDS. OFF. HER."The voice belonged to Lucian, and its effect was immediate. Taylor's fingers loosened instantly, and I gasped for air, my lungs burning as I sucked in deep breaths. Taylor stumbled backward, his face draining of color. Lucian's presence filled the space between us, and I barely recognized him - his usually kind expression had been replaced by something dangerous."I said," Lucian repeated. "get your hands off her."Taylor tried to put on a brave face, but I could see him trembling. "Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?" he spat, gesturing wildly in my direction. "This freak was following me around, watching me like some psycho stalker!"Lucian took a step forward, and despite being shorter than Taylor, he somehow seemed to tower over him. "Call her a freak one more time," he said. "I dare you.""What, are you her bodyguard now?" Taylor sneered but his voice cracked. "You're both just a bunch of—"He never finished that sentence. HAZEL POVThe idea that Maria Chen might have anything to do with framing Darryl felt absurd. She was the quiet girl who spent hours practicing piano and buried herself in calculus homework. How could someone so seemingly harmless orchestrate such a sinister plan?Amy echoed my skepticism, pacing back and forth across her room. “There’s no way it’s Maria,” she insisted, stopping to face me. “She barely talks to anyone. She’s too… well, nice.”I nodded, agreeing wholeheartedly. “Exactly. Why would she even want to frame Darryl? Her sister disappeared years ago—it doesn’t make sense.” My chest tightened at the thought of Gracia’s tragic death and how it had haunted Maria ever since. It just didn’t fit.But then Lucian spoke up from where he leaned against the wall. “Maybe that’s exactly why we’re not seeing it,” he said slowly. “What if it’s not about malice or hatred? What if it’s about grief?”Both Amy and I turned to him, surprised by his words. “Grief?” I repeated, frowning. “How do

"What about her?" I whispered again, clutching the hem of my shirt tightly, hoping he would say more.He turned away, shaking his head slightly. "Hazel," he said softly, almost like a sigh, "some truths are best left uncovered." "What do you mean?" I asked, taking a step forward. "You can't just drop something like that and walk away."But he didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked out toward the empty field. "Your mother was... special," he began slowly. "She saw things others couldn’t. She knew secrets no one should have known." He paused, glancing back at me briefly before looking away again. "And because of that, she paid a price."My breath caught in my throat. "What kind of price?" I demanded, stepping closer. "What happened to her? Why won’t anyone talk about her?"Mr. Thompson sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "It’s not my place to tell you these things," he said finally. "Some stories are better left untold. They only bring nothing but pain.""Pain or not,

HAZELWhy would Malachi save me? The notorious rogue alpha who had terrorized our pack for years, who had ruthlessly killed all of Darryl's previous girlfriends—why would he suddenly intervene? Our eyes locked, and something strange happened. A pull so powerful—tugged at my core. Before I could make sense of it, Lucian staggered to his feet, his face filled with rage."You!" he snarled at Malachi. "You dare interfere?"Malachi's massive black wolf form didn't flinch. He stood his ground, baring teeth that gleamed like ivory daggers in the moonlight. A low growl rumbled from his chest, and without warning, he lunged. The two wolves collided in a violent clash of fangs and claws. I watched in horror as they tore at each other, rolling across the forest floor in a blur of fur and blood. The air filled with snarls and the sound of flesh being ripped.Weakness washed over me, my legs trembling beneath me. I slumped against a nearby tree, unable to tear my eyes away from the brutal fight. L

HAZEL"You're a werewolf," Amy and I whispered in unison, the realization dawning on us simultaneously.Lucian's mouth curved into a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Very good, Hazel. I was wondering how long it would take you to figure it out."My mind raced through every conversation, every moment we'd spent together. The orphanage records, his comments about feeling abandoned, the Garrett family name in that book with the pack symbol. All the clues had been there, scattered like breadcrumbs, but I'd been too blind to see them."How?" I asked, finding my voice. "How could you be a werewolf and we never sensed it?"Amy moved closer to me, her fingers already extending into claws, ready to shift if necessary. I could feel her body tensing beside mine."I've had years to perfect hiding what I am," Lucian said, stepping further into the room. "Special herbs, certain techniques... you'd be surprised what you can learn when you're desperate enough."He moved toward the photographs on th

HAZEL POVI stood in front of the entire pack, my heart hammering against my ribs. Though Darryl had asked me to show them who I was, my powers felt frozen inside me, locked away by fear and uncertainty. The judgmental stares of the pack members only made it worse."I... I can't," I whispered, my voice shaking.Darryl moved behind me, his warm hand resting on my back. "You can," he murmured. "I'm right here." His touch sent warmth through my body, and suddenly I felt my power stirring. It started slowly at first – a gentle golden glow emanating from my skin. Then it grew stronger, brighter, until my entire body was illuminated. My blonde hair shimmered like spun gold, and I knew my eyes were glowing with an otherworldly light. Gasps echoed through the room as pack members leaned forward in their seats, their faces filled with awe.An elderly woman pushed through the crowd, her wizened face full of wonder. "By the moon goddess," she breathed. "A Golden Wolf. After all these centuries..

DARRYL POVThe morning sun felt different on my skin after weeks in that cell. Standing outside the prison with Hazel in my arms, I could barely process that I was finally free. But the weight of what I needed to tell her pressed against my chest like a stone."Hazel," I started, pulling back slightly to look into her eyes. "There's something you need to know about Lucian—""DARRYL!" The familiar voice cut through the moment. Lucian came bounding across the parking lot, his grin plastered across his face. Before I could react, he pulled me into a crushing hug that felt genuine—too genuine for someone who had orchestrated my imprisonment."Man, it's so good to see you out!" Lucian exclaimed, stepping back but keeping his hands on my shoulders. "We've been working non-stop to prove your innocence.""We sure have," Hazel agreed warmly. "Lucian was instrumental in helping us find the security footage."I fought to keep my expression neutral as my mind raced. The security footage that pro

HAZELI stood in my father's office at the police station. Amy squeezed my hand, a silent show of support as Officer Sarah reviewed our statement about finding the security footage.Jared paced behind his desk, his jaw clenched tight. "This footage is eight years old," he said, his voice clipped. "Even if it shows what you claim, it might not be admissible in court.""But it proves Darryl's innocence!" I shot back, my hands balling into fists. "You can't just ignore that!""Hazel," Sarah interjected gently, "your father is just trying to—""He's not my father." The words escaped before I could stop them. The room went deadly silent. Jared's face turned pale, then red with anger. Sarah looked between us in confusion."Hazel," Jared warned, his voice low and dangerous. "Now is not the time.""When is the time?" I demanded, taking a step forward. "When you're not busy trying to keep an innocent man in prison? When you're not injecting me with—" I caught myself just in time, aware of Sara

HAZELMy hands trembled as I connected the hard drive to Amy's laptop. We sat in her car, parked in a quiet corner of the mall parking lot, hearts racing with anticipation."Are you sure you want to watch this?" Amy asked softly. "We know it's going to be..." She didn't finish the sentence. She didn't have to.I nodded, double-clicking on the first video file. "We need to know exactly what it shows before we take it to the police."The footage was grainy, typical of security cameras from eight years ago. At first, there was nothing – just an empty park path lit by scattered lampposts. Then movement caught our attention. Two figures walked into frame, and my heart clenched. Gracia and Darryl, so young, so unaware of what was about to happen."There," Amy pointed at the screen. "Something's moving in the shadows."I leaned closer, squinting at the dark shape that seemed to come from nowhere. The attack happened so fast – one moment Darryl and Gracia were walking, the next Darryl was fly

HAZELI banged my head against Amy's car dashboard for what felt like the hundredth time. The park meeting had gone exactly as we'd feared – complete disaster. My ears were still ringing with their mocking laughter."Well, that was humiliating," Amy muttered from the driver's seat, her knuckles white on the steering wheel. "Did you see the security guard face when we mentioned eight-year-old security footage?""Don't remind me." I groaned, remembering his patronizing smile. "'Oh, you sweet, naive girls,'" I mimicked his tone. "'Security footage from that long ago? Even if it existed, it would have been destroyed years ago.'""And the lady!" Amy hit her hand against the wheel. "She looked so annoyed. Like we were children playing detective."We sat in silence for a moment, parked outside the park where we'd just been thoroughly dismissed."We're idiots," I finally said, staring at the ceiling of Amy's car. "What were we thinking? Eight years. Eight years! Of course no one would keep se

HAZELI paced nervously in Art room later that day, trying to figure out how to explain everything to Lucian without revealing the supernatural truth. He sat on a desk chair, arms crossed, clearly frustrated at being left out earlier."So," he said, his voice carefully neutral, "are you finally going to tell me what Maria said after you sent me away?"I exchanged a quick glance with Amy, who was perched on her bed. We had carefully rehearsed our edited version of events."Maria witnessed what happened the night Gracia died," I began slowly. "She followed her sister to the park because she was upset about a broken promise."Lucian leaned forward, his eyes intense. "And?""She saw Gracia and Darryl together," Amy continued. "They were attacked by someone... someone who seemed to know them. A man – large, incredibly strong. He….He attacked Darryl first, knocked him unconscious.""Then he killed Gracia while Darryl was out?" Lucian's voice was gentle, understanding how difficult this was

HAZEL POVMy heart was pounding as I watched Maria struggle with her words. I knew what was coming - a truth about werewolves that we couldn't let Lucian hear. But how could we send him away without making Maria even more suspicious?Amy caught my eye, and I could see the same worry reflected there. We needed to act fast."Before you continue," I said gently to Maria, "maybe we should move somewhere more private? This hallway isn't exactly comfortable."Maria wrapped her arms around herself, looking smaller than ever. "I don't want to move. If I move, I might lose my courage."Lucian shifted closer, his presence both comforting and concerning. "We could at least find somewhere to sit properly. These floors are pretty hard."That's when Amy surprised me with her quick thinking. "Actually, Lucian, could you do us a huge favor? Maria's going to need some water, and probably something to eat. She's shaking."Lucian frowned, clearly reluctant to leave. "Can't one of you go?""You know wher
