ELIJAH

“Any news?” A voice cracked, and I whip my head to see Vera stop, looking straight at me. Her brows knitted tightly to one another. Vera had been pacing back and forth inside the office room, thinking deeply with her jaw clenched for the past twenty minutes or so.

We had sent every tracker we have left. Still, they all came back empty-handed. No one could even sense their scent. It was as if they just…disappeared.

I see her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she bit her lip, leaning forward and staring at me with a look of hope and anticipation in her red, puffy eyes.

I shook my head. She tensed, tearing her gaze from me.

Closing my eyes, I sighed as frustration began to consume me. My claws scratched on the edge of the table. I growled, turning it over abruptly sending the papers flying everywhere in the room. Vera screamed, reaching for my arm but I shrugged her hand off. Instantly regretting it when I saw the startled look on her small face.
