North-Valley was only a couple of Kingdom’s north. If they had taken a carriage, it would have taken them a couple of days to reach the kingdom. However, they traveled in their wolf forms and were able to make it within a couple of hours.Upon reaching the kingdom, Marlon noticed that it was falling apart after the duke’s death. Some of the buildings looked as though they were crumbling to the ground and had been broken into. The paved grounds were broken and gravely to the touch. There were wolves light-furred wolves that were dirty and looked as if they were living on the streets. Marlon wasn’t expecting to see the kingdom in such shambles. However, it didn’t surprise him considering they had no direct leader. The king didn’t typically watch over the kingdoms that had a duke. He must have overlooked the fact that this kingdom had no duke. The castle was unwatched; the guards were nowhere in sight, and it looked as though it was opened and invaded. He could smell Petra everywhere ar
Kamala hated fighting with Deonna; she felt awful for that outburst. She wasn’t even sure where it came from. It’s not like she even wanted to hang around Bob anyways. She had no reason to speak with Bob or be around him other than the fact that her wolf was relentless. But Kamala had already gotten all the information she needed from Bob, and she wasn’t looking to have more conversations with him. But Deonna seemed weirded out at the fact that Kamala spoke to Bob, to begin with. They were staying together at the manor for crying out loud; what did Deonna expect? For Kamala to stay hidden within the manor grounds and not speak to anybody? It was almost impossible for that to happen. She couldn’t stand staying in the guest room any longer. She needed to get out and do something; plus, she was getting hungry. She hadn’t really eaten that much the last few days. She figured there was no harm in going into the kitchen to finding something to eat. It’s not like anyone could really say much
He was stuck; whenever he touched the doorknob it was send an electrical shock through his body. The walls, doors, and windows were enchanted to keep him and his men from going near them. They couldn’t leave the castle. There were no signs of Petra or Alex anywhere, which meant they were doing this from afar.It had to be them.If Marlon had to guess, Alex reached out to Bob to warn him of Petra’s whereabouts so that Marlon would go investigate. They wanted him to get away from Mooncrest and into the castle to trap him. They were going after Deonna.“Bob?” Marlon tried to link his son; he had hoped that just because he was in some kind of shield in the castle, that didn’t mean his link wasn’t going to work.He was relieved when Bob responded.“Father…” Bob said, he sounded a bit hostile, but Marlon didn’t have time for that right now.“We have a problem. I think Petra and Alex are on their way to the manor as we speak. I am trapped in the castle,” Marlon explained.“What do you mean b
“We are going back to the village?” Kamala asked in a gasp; her eyes were large and alert as I explained to her what the plan was.I was wrapping Mateo in his blanket as I spoke to her; I knew she was apprehensive about leaving by the look she was giving me. I was worried about leaving as well, but we didn’t have many more options. Alex and Petra were on their way to the manor and their goal is to get to Mateo and me. I couldn’t take that risk; Marlon didn’t want to take that risk.As much as it pained me to leave, I knew it was the best thing for us.“We have to,” I told her. “We need to protect ourselves.”“But what about everyone else? If Alex and Petra are after us…” Kamala tried to argue, but I shook my head quickly.“They are after Mateo and me. They don’t even know you exist,” I assured her.A small crease appeared above her forehead as she allowed my words to process. I wasn’t meaning to offend her.“Once they know I exist, they will be after me too,” she told me, folding her
This was never anything Bob wanted to do; he never wished to fight his brother. He never thought he would ever have to prepare to fight his brother. The opportunity had come to him at one point, but he chose to not take it and let his brother go without a scratch. His only condition was that Alex didn’t return to the kingdom. But he seemed to have broken that condition and was back with a vengeance. He trapped his own father in a castle with some of the guards and was working with Petra to get Deonna and Mateo.Bob never thought he was going to be the one to defend the dirtballs, but here he was. Preparing to fight his brother to protect a couple of dark-furred wolves. Except now it was even worse because he was starting to have feelings for a dark-furred wolf.He was never the type to have feelings for anyone, let alone a dirtball. But Kamala snuck up on him and he hasn’t been able to get her out of his head since she arrived. The thought of any harm coming to her caused him to feel
Kamala was dead.He just watched Alex kill her in cold blood right in front of him. Bob could hardly keep his stance as the image of Kamala’s small body was bent until she literally snapped in his hands. The pain she had revealed in her eyes as the snap took place was something he was going to see whenever he closed his eyes for the rest of his life. What was she even doing here? She was supposed to be leaving the kingdom with Deonna and Mateo. That was the plan the entire time; to get them out of the kingdom and to safety. It was Marlon’s idea and Bob agreed to it. He never had a chance to speak to Kamala about her leaving, but he knew that Deonna would have it handled. He didn’t think that Deonna would allow her to stay behind.Unless she didn’t allow for it.Maybe Kamala took it upon herself to stay behind because she wanted to help fight.No.That didn’t make any sense.Kamala wasn’t a fighter… was she?Unless she stayed behind because of him.No.That also didn’t make any sense.
The thought of letting go of Mateo was painful. I couldn’t imagine just leaving him with a random family in the village while I went back to the manor. But I had to find Kamala. I needed to make sure she was actually okay.My wolf could feel her still and knew that she was still alive, but I needed to see it with my own eyes. I wasn’t sure what Bob was planning, but I needed to be with him while he did it. He was so sure that Alex was bringing Kamala’s body to the river creek; I wasn’t sure why that was a place Alex would go to.There must have been some kind of importance to that area.I held Mateo close to my chest as I made my way through the town. My mother was close to this woman, Reece, and her husband, Adam. I haven’t spoken to them since I was young because they didn’t exactly approve of me being around. But they were people that my mother trusted and even though they didn’t approve of me, part of me trusted them too.My mother grew up with them and has told me numerous times
The longer Marlon stayed in the castle; the more fury rose through his body. The silvery aura of his wolf was turning a hazy red as he thought about what he was going to do to Alex once he was released from this prison of a castle. He couldn’t believe his own son was capable of such a heinous crime as imprisoning his own father. And for what? What was the purpose of this? He was never going to be the sole heir. Regardless of what happened to Marlon, Bob, and even Mateo. Alex was never going to be the sole heir.Bob had just reached out to him and told him that he watched Alex kill Kamala. Marlon didn’t know the girl that well, only a little bit from when they freed the slaves together and escaped to the kingdom. But what he did know about her was that she was strong-willed and eager to fight. He didn’t think he would die so quickly at the hands of Alex.It was almost laughable when he thought about it.Alex wasn’t the strongest; he would have bet all his money that Kamala could beat A
