Chapter 246

I find Nicholas kneeling next to Justine’s body, his forehead in the palm of his hand, crying softly – the sound of someone whose heart is genuinely broken. “What am I going to do now?” he asks me through his tears.

“You are going to bury her,” I say and crouch next to the boy. “Then you are going to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and go on with life.”

“I want to die,” he says.

My insides go cold. I loved Justine, but I barely see Nicholas. He’s quiet, a bit of a loner who prefers to keep to himself, but I don’t want to see more of our wolves die.
