As he walked her to the entrance of her tent, he kept his promise and didn’t push for even a goodnight kiss. But if he had, would she have given him more?

She gulped down the wine, hoping it would help her drift off quickly. At least in her dreams, she could be with him.

The wine worked like a charm. Just minutes after blowing out the candles and settling in, her mind was flooded with thoughts of Thomas and the life they could share.

The Gitana floated above Hera’s bed, observing her as she slept. It was easy to slip into Hera’s drugged mind, like slicing through warm butter.

The Gitana gently touched Hera’s temples and began her chant. Images and words danced in her head, lingering just behind the veil of Hera’s dreams. She inserted the image of the man she wanted Hera to crave.

Hera stirred in her sleep, her mind clouded. A frown crossed her face, and for a moment, The Gitana feared she might wake up. To her dismay, Hera’s vision shifted, and Thomas’s figure was replaced b

Hera shot Keia a mischievous grin. “You owe me big time for this,” she whispered slyly. “Lords and Ladies, Warriors and Knights, Pages and Squires, welcome!” She paused to soak in the applause, eyes scanning the crowd for Thomas. “To the brave souls competing in our games and tournament, we wish you all the best and good health.” The audience cheered in response. “Gentlemen,” she announced, introducing the trumpeters who promptly summoned the warriors. They rode in on their horses, sitting tall and proud. The horses danced around the arena, drawing smiles and pointing fingers from the crowd. Hera recognized some familiar faces from the night before, but others were new. Each rider approached Hera, helmet in hand, one by one, bowing before her. She greeted each with a nod and a smile as they showcased their steeds, occasionally accepting a ribbon or flower from a loved one in the audience. Gelo and Thomas were the last to enter the arena. Hera spotted Gelo first, his conf

“A virgin's blood from Augur lineage, just old enough to give consent." Thomas recited the curse aloud, letting them both mull over its meaning. "Virgin blood will grant you freedom; this is the curse we bestow upon you." He observed Hera chatting with Keia. "If Hera needs to consent, then The Gitana can't use force. How can she make her agree?" "She can't. Not without some mind control. Hera's got a strong will and is unlikely to fall for any trick The Gitana tries." "Maybe," Thomas said quietly. "Damn it, she seems so sure of herself. Like everything's going just as she planned." "True," Gelo replied nervously. Hera seized the chance to stroll through the vendors during the break. At least, that’s what she told Keia. In reality, she was scanning the crowd for Thomas. "Looking for someone?" his voice came from behind her. She grinned but didn’t turn around. Instead, she stood on her tiptoes to peek over the crowd. "Just a tall, dark, and handsome guy. You wouldn’t

The crowd rose as Gelo took a tumble off his horse after the last pass. He dusted himself off, favoring his sword arm, and exchanged a bow and handshake with Shawn before leading his horse off to the side. Shawn and his horse got a breather before their showdown with Thomas. Hera was itching to find Thomas to wish him luck and throw a playful threat about what would happen if he didn’t win. But with the match so close, slipping away wasn’t an option. Minutes dragged on, feeling like forever, as fairgoers came and went during the break, snapping photos and asking questions. Her nerves made it challenging to chat with anyone who stopped by. When her fingers started tingling, she forced herself to sit down and take deep breaths. Passing out before the match wouldn’t do her any good. Hera’s thoughts wandered, and she felt like she was watching everything from afar. She shut her eyes and recalled Thomas’s earlier words. What was she afraid of? Why did he say that? She visualized him a

Lightning flashed across the clear sky, surprising everyone in the crowd. The rope felt warm and began to glow. He trembled as a part of his very being lifted away from him and connected with her. If Thomas hadn’t been holding her, Hera would have collapsed as the sensation washed over her. “It’s okay, trust me. Everything will be alright,” Thomas communicated to her silently. He lifted her veil, noticing her eyes turn smoky as he leaned in closer. Another flash of lightning lit up the sky just as their lips met. Their kiss was more than just a simple touch; it ignited something deep within them. She sighed into him as he wrapped her in his arms, both of them aware that their lives had changed forever. The men pulled Thomas aside to help him take off his armor, while Gelo questioned him. Meanwhile, Hera was surrounded by women who gently removed her veil and styled her hair. Keia, caught up in the moment, snapped photos and wiped away her happy tears. Aurora emerged from t

The sun dipped below the horizon while they enjoyed their meal. Gentle ocean breezes flickered the flames of the torches and candles, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. Little did Hera know just how extraordinary the night was about to become. Thomas had sent Gelo ahead to fetch their horses and gear. He felt conflicted about how he was persuading Hera to join him. Time was slipping away. To keep her in the dark for her own safety, he pushed her from his mind for a bit. As they left the dining area, Hera pulled Keia into a tight hug. “Don’t come back to the tent tonight. If I’m not here in the morning, just know I’m with him. I’ll reach out when I can.” “Hera, it’s just sex. Trust me, it can be a bit painful the first time.” A single tear rolled down her cheek, as if she were saying goodbye for more than just a few days. “You’ve been the best friend I could ever ask for.” “Ugh, now you’re making me tear up. Stop it.” Keia wiped her cheeks. “Go on, have your first time alrea

The room was pretty dark when Hera woke up, except for the flickering light from the peat and coal burning in the hearth. The fresh scent of rain filled the air, and she loved how a good summer storm could boost her mood. Those storms were a rare treat in Southern Fabrice. With her eyes still closed, she took her time waking up, cozying up under a pile of blankets in her soft, inviting bed. When she finally opened her eyes, she noticed the nightgown covering her arms. Normally, she just wore a t-shirt to bed, so it felt strange to have sleeves all the way down to her wrists. Hera lifted her arm, confused by the fabric. “Well, that’s odd,” she thought as she closed her eyes again, “it’s been a weird few days.”Suddenly, memories of the last few days rushed back to her, and she shot up in bed, scanning the room. The walls were made of stone, the kind you’d expect on the outside of a house, not inside. The fireplace across the room barely radiated any warmth, and the air was thick with

“I have no idea. I can’t believe it’s because I’m a Augur. Or that you are.”  “You activated the stone last night yourself,” he pointed out.  “That could be a coincidence. Maybe the warmth from my hand triggered it. Anyone could have done that.”  Thomas got up and moved to the hearth.  The fire was just a soft orange glow now. “Fire is the first thing Augurs learn to control. It’s the first power they gain and the last one they lose.” He stretched out his hands toward the fire, and the flames shot up three feet from the embers.  “Oh my God!”  Thomas pulled his hands back, and the flames flickered out.  She gasped, staring at the man who felt so different from the one she knew at the fair. “This is overwhelming.” She stood up and started pacing. “I don’t know what to think.”  “Just accept that we’re both Augurs, and everything else will make sense.”  Feeling anxious, she ran her fingers through

A spot in the carpet was starting to wear down from all the times Hera plopped down on it. No matter how hard she tried, she could only stay seated for a few minutes before getting restless. Luckily, the room was spacious enough for her to walk around a bit. She could hear people moving about outside her door. When Thomas strolled by, his thoughts were so loud that she couldn’t help but yell, “Get the hell out!” Nobody really talked to her. Even the maid who brought her food just kept quiet. The poor woman barely looked up as she came in, but Hera caught her sneaking a glance at her from the corner of her eye.  Hera figured the maid was probably judging her for wearing shorts and a t-shirt instead of the dresses laid out for her. Outside, she could hear the maid chatting with Lilian. Their hushed voices were filled with concern about what Hera was eating—or not eating. Lilian had give

T H O M A SIt's been a while since we returned from that dimension. Time there felt like just an hour in the real world, even though we spent days in it. “I really don’t want to see that old lady again, Gelo,” I said. If I were my old self, I would’ve kicked her out of my territory without a second thought. But I promised Hera I wouldn’t be that cruel Thomas anymore. “Anything else on your mind?” Gelo asked as he set the plate down. I frowned. “You brought fruits for my wife, but you’re the one munching on them, you jerk.” Gelo laughed, standing up with a smirk. “Relax. I got hungry—” “What’s the situation at the border? How are the intruders?” Gelo shoved his hands in his pockets. “Some have been dealt with, but a few have already slipped into the territory. Don’t worry, the councils are on it. We just need a bit more time.” I nodded. This could’ve been avoided if it weren’t for that old woman. Hera is still in the hospital recovering. “Step out and check the campsit

K E I AMy knee slammed hard into his groin. The dress cushioned my effort, and all he did was grunt.“I’ll take that as a yes, pumpkin.”Gelo had me pinned between his arms and the wall.“Excuse me, sir, could you call security? But the closer he got, the more my heart raced, and my breaths quickened… and oh, damn, my panties were soaked. It had been way too long since I’d held her.“Alright, how about this? Marry me, and I’ll take care of the jerk who hurt you.”She glanced at Prieto, probably looking for his approval. But what she said next completely threw me off.“Yes.”What the hell had I just done? Did she really say yes? All I could see was that scumbag standing between me and, well, everything. He was in the way of her. She meant the world to me. The thought of anyone else having her, especially treating her poorly? No one was allowed to touch her. But this?“Yes?” I repeated, because seriously, what had I just gotten myself into? I wasn’t the kind of guy who got married.I glanced back at the

Totally caught off guard, Aurora fought to keep Hera upright. Hera pushed against her with every bit of strength she could muster. Thomas shot his hand out. The knife slipped from Aurora’s grip and skated across the floor. Thomas stepped in, positioning himself between Hera and Aurora, his gaze locked on their foe. He raised his hand again, and a ball of fire appeared in his palm. Aurora stood her ground defiantly. Hera sensed Aurora’s grip on her loosening. Aurora smirked, a sneer spreading across her face. Hera’s gaze darted between her husband and Aurora. The flame flickered out. Thomas’s hands flew to his throat. When he dropped to his knees, Hera realized he was gasping for breath. “NO!” Aurora’s sinister laughter echoed through the room. Meanwhile, Hera, taking charge of the household, was discussing dinner plans with Alice. She spent a lot of her day overseeing the servants, making sure they took down the tapestries for winter cleaning before the bad weather hit. Once everyone was busy with her tasks, she decided to try knitting to keep her hands occupied. She was more than happy to set it aside when young Jacob, Thomas’s squire, came in with news of a visitor. “Lady Morris, sorry to interrupt.”Matthew of Lancaster stood behind him.“No problem at all, Jacob. Sir Matthew, what brings you here? Were we expecting you?” Hera hadn’t heard anything about his visit, and a little alarm went off in her mind.“No, my lady. I was passing through when I encountered Lords Nolan and Gelo. Rumors started spreading around the Keep and made their way to the village. People began to whisper that Myra was suffering from a serious illness. Some even speculated that she had run off with one of the guys who came to the wedding. The buzz about Hera’s pregnancy helped to quiet some of the chatter about Myra. Still, the Morris family figured they should come up with a reason for Myra’s absence. No one knew how long she’d be gone, and pretending she was still around was wearing everyone out.One afternoon, Nolan was in the courtyard with Gelo, getting ready for their latest scheme.“She’s impossible! She turns down every suitor!” Nolan shouted.“Take it easy, Dad. Myra knows her own mind,” Gelo replied.“Whatever.” Nolan threw his hands up in frustration. “She doesn’t understand what’s best for her. Maybe a stay at the convent will give her the peace and time to think about my proposal.”“Are you sure about that?” Gelo’s voice was loud enough for the guards in the towers to hear.
