Kate POV
Colby and I had decided to go back home today. Nothing was happening on the rogue front. I had heard from Drake. He shared with me that Maddie was taking a couple days with her family, which left him feeling conflicted. I knew it was hard to be away from your mate, but maybe this was what Maddie had needed. She did indicate she wanted to see me again, so I offered to Drake that they could take our plane, if they wanted. He agreed so they’ll be coming out when she gets back home. He also promised her a vacation. We were closer to the coast, so he was going to take her to see the ocean as well after we met.
Colby had the opportunity to see my parents. While he was disgusted with whatever my father had been involved in all those years ago, he had wanted to apologize to

Kate POV “How could you?” I demand of Colby as we walked into our room. “Kate,” he starts to say when I cut him. “You promised me she wouldn’t be around Amelie,” I remind him. “I know, but she didn’t seem bothered by her when Josey visited,” he says. “Colby, if she was afraid of her, she wouldn’t do anything to piss her off. Why didn’t you ask Amelie more about what she meant when she didn’t want Josey there?” I ask. “Kate, I fucked up. Nobody will regret that more than me,” he says remorsefully. “But why, Colby? That’s not like you,” I say to him going to sit beside him on the couch. I take his hand and hold it in mine as we just sit there. “I was angry at you Kate, I admit it. I wasn’t listening to you, and I messed up with Amelie,” he replies. “I promised her sh
Kate POV Walking into the training area, I went to the women’s locker room. While wolves had no issue with nudity, we still respected boundaries and having changing rooms was about respect. I grabbed a pair of leggings and a sports bra I kept in my locker for times when I just needed to train. Not wanting to spar I went to the gym area and did a five-mile run on the treadmill before switching to weights. As I hear the door to the room open, I look up to see Colby there in his regular clothes. “I said I wanted space,” I say to him. “I want you to call Miranda,” he says. Looking at him surprised I have a questioning look on my face, “Why?” I ask. “Because if she has been influencing me with magic, I want it gone,” he says coldly. “And then I want to kill her for what she’s done to Amelie an
Kate POV Looking at Lily sheepishly, “We’re expecting,” I barely get out before she squeals in excitement hugging me. As we stand there, Miranda has a funny look on her face as she looks at me. Looking at her I have a questioning look on my face, as does Colby. “That was a pretty big attack Kate, let me do a quick scan to see how things are at the moment,”. With that Lily steps back as Miranda does her body scan. I don’t understand the talent, but I am always in awe of it. As she steps back, she smiles. “It seems your wolf is protecting the pup, just as you would expect,” she says. Feeling a bit of relief roll over me, I still have that sense of fear but trust that in this moment everything is okay. Colby comes over giving me a hug before he lets me go reluctantly. Lily and Miranda
Kate POV I lay there trying to sleep, but I can’t. I know Colby is still awake as well. Sitting up, I startle him. “I can’t sleep here,” I say getting out of bed. “Why?” he asks, confused. “I know it shouldn’t, but it bothers me that you slept with her. For all we know it could have been in our bed,” I say with annoyance. He looks at me with sudden awareness of what I was saying. He jumped out of the bed, “come on, let’s sleep in the spare bedroom,” he says. Shaking my head, “I’d like to be alone tonight, Colby; I’ll take the couch and you take the spare room,” I offer. “No, I’ll take the couch, you take the spare room,” he says coming over to kiss me on my head. “I’m sorry for all of it Kate; for my weakness at being taken in,” he says. Nodding, “I know, I just need a bit of time to get over it,” I say to him. Hugging him I step back and
Drake POV Maddie and I had a quiet night when we arrived back at the Pack house. We spent the night watching movies and talking about things we liked, things we don’t like, what she did while she was at the Red Moon Pack. We started to delve into our relationship, but Maddie shut that down. She wasn’t ready to discuss anything at the moment. She was still bothered by my suggesting we wait to take our relationship to the next level. She slept in my arms last night. I didn’t sleep as well as I had expected when she returned. There is so much unsettled between us that it is difficult to make plans. The Pack doctor didn’t have anything new to report regarding her scent not returning and her wolf seemed to be eluding her as well. She was frustrated and worried her wolf won’t come back. I
Kate POV After an enjoyable supper last evening, we all had an early night. Amelie was wound for sound at having new people around. She adored Drake; he was definitely her favourite. Maddie was stand-offish with her. I suspect because she wasn’t used to being around children. It takes time to adjust without a doubt. I think Amelie will win her over though; she’s a persistent child. Maddie and I are meeting this morning at ten. Then Maddie and Drake will head out on their mini vacation with the intention of stopping on their way back through to catch the plane home. I got up and went back to our room. I would have to make the effort to get over the Josey situation. Colby spent a lot of time apologizing and try
Colby POV “Kate!” I yell as I see Kate lying on the floor curled up in a ball. I see a puddle of blood by her side and carefully move her so I can see where the blood is coming from. As I put my hand over the spot, I can feel it burn. Silver. Yelling for help, Drake comes running in. “Where is Maddie?” he yells. In the moment I hadn’t realized Maddie was missing. Mind-linking my warriors, “Do not let anyone cross the borders; anyone suspicious take them to the cells until I can interview them,” I say to them all as I pick Kate up. Drake puts his hand on Kate’s wound and hisses when he feels the silver. Looking at me, we both know this isn’t good. We take off running toward the Pack hospital, I had already mind-linked the head doctor to be ready when we arrive. &n
Maddie POV Sitting in the freezing cell I look at the scraps of food and water provided to me. I had lost weight since being taken captive. There were days I was terrified I wouldn’t survive. I had to believe someone was coming for me. That someone missed me. I knew Lara was impersonating me but how could Drake not know it wasn’t me? Was my family missing me? Did they not find it strange that I didn’t know them? I have been going through various stages of grief. Anger, denial, acceptance. Although I couldn’t fully accept my fate. I had to believe Drake would find me. Or Samuel. I knew my brother wouldn’t stop until he located me. At some point, someone had to figure it out. She wouldn’t smell like me. One night I felt a bit of pain in my che
Kate POV We got the call two days later that Lily was in labour. Colby had been trying to convince me not to go. Lily would understand that he wanted me close to the Pack house and doctor. We both were anxious after our last loss, but we had to recognize that was a situation that happened to us. Not something that meant there was something wrong with the pup or me in terms of carrying our pups. Amelie was over the moon when she found out we were expecting. To find out we were having two pups was a surprise but a great one at that. Amelie asked repeatedly if she could name them. Considering the last stuffed animal she received, she named gremlin, we are trying to gently tell her no. But it made us chuckle last night as we considered the names she would come up with. We haven’t started thinking about names yet. We don’t know if it’s two boys, two girls or one of each. And we haven’t decided if we want to know what they are before they are born.
Kate POV It had been a couple months since everything had happened. From the DNA test results, to Caleb’s son being the mastermind behind all that had happened. Maddie and I had a chance to grow closer over the past couple months. Beta Ralph had been disappointed he had not ended up being Maddie’s father. Unlike my father who had begrudgingly made an effort to speak with her a couple times. Maddie was not interested in him as a father figure and that suited my father as well. Although he was a little surprised, she was so independent. I was proud of her. She has continued with her therapy and had healed physically from her injuries. Alpha Samuel has been able to shift. He still struggles with his leg but the chance to shift has really helped with his outlook on life. And from what I understand it helped Jasmine and his relationship. Samuel did banish his father when they returned to their Pack; however, another Pack accepted his mother and father
Maddie POV Grabbing Drake’s arm, “There has to be another way,” I murmur to Drake suddenly terrified of the ramifications if he does not win. Not that I would be the property of this rogue, but that I would lose my mate. I cannot live without Drake. We just started our lives together. And what the hell was the purpose? “What the hell is the point of all this?” I say to the man standing in front of us smirking. “The point is, Maddie dearest, that I get the final revenge on a group of wolves who have done nothing but look down on my family,” he says coldly. “Who are you?” Kate asks taking a step closer. Colby grabs her arm, holding her where she was. Turning to look at Kate, he takes a step forward. Everyone tensed up as he continued to stare at Kate. “You don’t recognize me, Alpha Kate?” he says smugly. “You look familiar, but it cannot be,” she says. “Why can’t it be? Did you think they would to be loyal to one another after everyt
Kate POV “It is you, isn’t it?” I ask Troy. “Who?” Maddie asks me. “He’s the mystery man working with Dr. Langille,” I conclude. “No, I am not, but I am the man working for him,” Troy replies coldly. “What the hell are you talking about?” Alpha Jax asks Troy. Troy looks at him condescendingly, “You stupid, old man. Who in their right mind tries to interfere with a mated couple? I will say you provided the avenue for us into your life and in turn Maddie’s life,” he says. “You aren’t in Maddie’s life; I don’t know who the hell you are, nor do I care, but you won’t be leaving here,” Drake says. I can tell he is mind-linking his warriors to come remove Troy. I want more answers before that happens. “Who do you work for?” I ask Troy. He laughs, “I work for a powerful man. One who wants Maddie and in turn will take Red Moon Pack,” he concludes. “Like hell they will,” we all turn shocked to see Samuel walking in the door with Jasmine at his
Maddie POV It had been an amazing vacation with Drake. I cannot wait to go again. I loved all his surprises and most importantly our time together. I had heard from Kate. She and Colby were arriving shortly for a quick visit. They were stopping to see her parents first at the Golden Moon Pack, Kate had some paperwork to sign for Alpha Reid and then would be coming over here. She had some information on who she believes is the man who Dr. Langille referred to, but she did not want to discuss it on the phone. Drake had just received a mind-link that our guests were here. I was surprised it was so quick as we had just spoke with Kate that she was on her way, and we were about an hour from the Golden Moon Pack. Drake and I went out to the entrance to await their arrival. We saw a lone car coming up the street, which was odd. Kate and Colby always travelled with additional warriors given the size of Colby’s Pack and the link to the Golden Moon Pack.
Kate POV Getting Amelie ready for bed had been a chore. She had found out we were at her school visiting her teacher and wanted to know why. Obviously, we did not tell her the reason. We simply told her it was a check-in to see how Amelie was doing and that we found out her teacher was moving to a new Pack. Yes, on the drive home Colby had made the decision to relocate Ms. Cooper. He would not make her rogue, but he would find a Pack within his network that would be better suited for her. And no, she would not be teaching school children. He had already arranged to meet with Ms. Cooper first thing tomorrow morning to advise her of the change. This satisfied Amelie and we spent an hour reading before she fell asleep. I sat there just holding her while she had drifted off to sleep. I could not wait to give her a younger sibling. I knew we weren’t her birth parents, but she felt like my own and I would always treat her like she was mine regardless of ho
Maddie POV We had arrived at the beach late yesterday. We got here in time to watch an amazing sunset. I could see why the beach was so captivating for Drake. The smell of the ocean breeze was incredible, and I was amazed that it was what he smelled when he first scented me as his mate. I sat between Drake’s legs, his arms wrapped around my waist as we just sat and listened to the waves as they rolled up the shore. Drake had rented us a cottage that was secluded from other vacationers. He had been here years before and wanted to show me. He also teased me that he had lots of activities planned that required privacy. I didn’t care. This was the most amazing surprise I have experienced. I was willing to try everything he wanted to do. No matter how much it pushed me out of my comfort zone. My mate was amazing. He had been incredibly supportive while I continued to heal. I could not have asked for more from him. We walked up the beach a
Samuel POV “You may never shift again,” the specialist had told me months ago. I had been hearing this phrase over and over on a permanent loop in my mind. I could not focus on anything else. I could not imagine how effective I could be as an Alpha for my Pack without the ability to shift. I was so angry at everyone and taking most of my anger and frustration out on Jasmine. My heart sank as I knew I had treated my mate horribly yet again. I was getting to a point where I could no longer apologize for my behaviour, and I could not stand myself. I had my appointment today with my specialist. I was going to find out if the exercises and all the extra work had paid off or if I was destined to be an Alpha with a wolf who could not shift. Or if I would get the chance to try, once again, to shift. I did not know if Jasmine would come with me to today’s appointment. I had been particularly nasty this morning and I knew through our bond she was still very hu
Maddie I could not believe it. Kate and I were finally confirmed as being siblings. When we had told Alpha Jackson and Beta Ralph the results, I felt a little sorry for Beta Ralph. I think a part of him had hoped I would be his daughter. It was clear that the previous DNA results had been tampered with and we had no reason to doubt these results. Kate was still searching for the identity of who the “he” was who tampered with the previous results. She was concerned he could still be a threat. She was also going after Dr. Langille for misconduct. I was sorry that I had not known my birth siblings better. Or experienced them in a better light. Had we had the opportunity to grow up together, things would have been so much different and hopefully better. But at least I have one sibling I can get to know and grow older with. Drake was still working with the rogues. The Pack he had thought might take them had refused most of the members. Th
