Chapter 199:

That night after dinner, as usual, we returned to our room to rest. I sat on the bed, my face contorted with pain. I have not eaten properly for many days, leading to a severe stomachache. Since the war officially broke out, I only ate a slice of bread daily to keep some energy.

I looked up at the window, for some reason feeling extremely unsettled. After saying goodbye to Aidan at the forest's edge, I always looked forward to hearing from him. I heard that Red River's people came quickly after that. Presumably, Aidan was also taken home for treatment; I don't know if he told Alfine about it.

At midnight, the silence was broken by a terrible sound. I repeatedly threw open the window, and a blazing fire burned in the distance as if it tore through my pupils.

'Is the Red River on fire?' Spring reminded me of horror. 'There was an explosion; I don't know if everyone left.'
