"High priest!" Ann gasped as she looked down to her own hand, which was what took away Hank's breath.

Because in Ann's hand, The Shadow was now glowing.

Dimly, but the glow was still there.

"How?! I mean... how did it happen?" Hank stammered as he started walking towards Ann.

His attention was no longer on the crashing scene.

"By the time I got here, she already crashed the car..." Ann started with an improvised lie.

There was no one to expose her anyways.

"What?! You mean Lilith?" Hank took a gasp as he blinked in confusion, "Where is she?"

"She was taken to the hospital." Ann said, "I called the ambulance right away as I got here."

"That's good." Hank nodded, still in shock, "So what happened to The Shadow? How was it wakened?!"

"I don't know..." Ann handed The Shadow back to Hank, "I was so worried about Lilith when I saw all these, and before I knew, The Shadow was already in my hand with its whole body shining brightly like the moon itself..."

"Oh my God..." Hank stared at the now awake wand with awe and frantic sparkles in his eyes, "It's truly amazing..."

"I'm sorry I took the wand..." Ann lowered her head with a little sobbing, "I'm sorry for all that happened tonight...I didn't mean any of these to happen! I just..."

"I know, kiddo." Hank patted Ann on her head, "You have been too hard on yourself. But I guess your ambition is with good reason."

"That's no excuse, high priest..." Ann wiped some fake tears away, "I don't know what got into me...I don't think I'm worthy..."

"That's not true." Hank comforted her, "There must be a good reason for The Shadow to choose you. You don't have to doubt yourself. Let's go home, kiddo. I'm sure the archbishop would be most delighted to know this great news!"

Ann didn't stop her sobbing.

She dragged Hank on his long sleeve slightly and opened her mouth with hesitation: "Sir...Do you think it's I who killed her? Maybe it was because I came chasing her--"

"Oh, no! Of course not!" Hank exclaimed in surprise, "She was out here on her own before you even got to her house. This is not your burden to bear, my child."

"She only got upset at Jacob because..." Ann sobbed, "Because she ran into us kissing... This is all my fault! Oh my God..."

Ann burst into tears as she fell on the ground right there on the highway.

"Ohh, I see..." Hank sighed, "That IS really unfortunate. But that's no reason to put her death on you. Besides, you are the one who called the ambulance. Let's not just assume she would die yet."

"I hope she will live, I really do!" Ann allowed Hank to pull her up.

Ann knew full well that the mysterious alpha won't allow that girl to die, for some reason yet known to her.

It didn't sound like he knew who Lilith was. So why would he care so much?!

He even said "treat her life as my life" for God's sake! Ann rolled her eyes in her mind.

Why was that stupid human girl just so lucky?!

"Are you alright"? Hank looked at Ann with worry written in his eyes, "You are in no condition to drive. Let me, please."

"What about your car?" Asked Ann in surprise.

"Ohh, I'm sure the owner would just be happy that the police find their car and return it intact tomorrow." The old high priest answered with a naughty smile.

"I cannot believe I made you do this..." Ann exclaimed, "I'm really sorry, and grateful to you, sir."

"Ohh, I believe your gratitude belongs to Jacob." Hank winked at her, "That boy really cared about you, you know? You would be in big trouble if he didn't take that girl to his mother's care for you."

"Oh my God!" Ann gasped, "How is she! Is she okay?!"

"Lost a lot of blood," Hank glanced at Ann with obvious scold in his eyes, and Ann lowered her head.

"But she will be fine." Hank moved his sight away, relieving her from the shame and guilt, "You avoided all the important organs."

"Thank god..." Ann murmured, thanking the almost ridiculous kind assumption from Hank instead of Emma's survival, "So...what now?"

"Now? Now we go home and rest before we go pay the archbishop a visit." Hank smiled softly as he winked at Ann, "I'm sure he will be thrilled by this news, but we should give him some sleep tonight."

"Yes," Ann nodded, "Yes of course!"

"Do you want to stay at Jacob's parents' for tonight?" Hank asked.

"Why?" Ann asked in confusion, "I have nothing to do with him! The kiss was just--"

She stopped herself at Hank's chuckle.

"I meant the girl, Emma." With still a slight laugh, Hank glanced at Ann, "I thought you might want to check up on her. So that you won't feel too bad about it."

"Ohh, yeah..." Ann nodded quickly, "That WOULD be lovely, but I worry that seeing me might just upset her. Maybe I should deliver my apology when she heals a bit first."

"That's very considerate of you." Hank nodded, "I'll just take you home then."

"That would be great..." Ann sighed, "It really has been a long night..."

"I'm not sure you can just go right to sleep though," Hank chuckled as he stopped the car, and Ann looked up in surprise--

Jacob was standing at her doorstep.

"I'll leave you two alone then. Good night, my child." Hank winked at Ann before he got off the car.

Ann smiled at Hank, and took a deep breath before she opened her side of the door.

No one knows what happened. Ann told herself over and over again as she walked towards Jacob. Not even the high priest.

She stopped in front of Jacob but didn't say a word. She was waiting. She needed to know how he views her right now.

"Are you alright? You cried?" Jacob asked with a cautious tone.

"It's okay..." Tears filled her eyes instantly as she was sure that he still cared about her, "I'm sorry..."

Jacob took her into his arms.

"It's okay. Everything will be okay." Jacob comforted her with a gentle voice, "Emma is fine, and she will be able to go home in no time."

"No!" Ann burst into tears, "I meant I'm sorry that I couldn't save Lilith..."

"What..." Jacob paused before he looked into her eyes, "What are you talking about?!"

"She got into a car accident before I could catch up with her..." Ann managed her explanation as she sobbed, "She crashed into the other line...I don't know what happened..."

"Wh-where is she now...?" Jacob's voice was shaking as he asked with hesitation.

He didn't know if he wanted the answer.

"I called the ambulance so she would be fine..." Ann sobbed more, "I'm really sorry... I kissed you only because your mom was worried about you! I didn't mean to hurt her!"

Jacob sighed heavily.

"It's all my fault..." Ann wiped her tears as they burst out nonstop, "Do you hate me?"

"No..." Jacob sighed as he took Ann into his arm again, "No, I don't hate you. Neither of us saw that coming..."

"You should go look for her." Ann hugged Jacob swiftly before she took herself out of his arms, "And maybe we should not keep in touch, for...ever."

Jacob stared at her in disbelief.

"What are you talking about?!"

"She must hate me right now..." Ann sighed with a bitter smile, "You won't be able to get her back if we stay friends."

"She would be mad for the kiss, sure." Jacob nodded, "But I'm sure she will understand--"

"She got into a car accident, Jacob, because of me..." Ann shook her head in sorrow, "Do you think she would ever forgive me even if she still gets all her limbs and her cute little face intact? And I don't think she'd be that lucky...Her face was covered in blood when I found her..."

Ann was satisfied at the hesitated look on Jacob's face.

She needed Jacob to not bring Lilith back, at least not before she gets The Shadow.

"You should go." Ann pushed him on the chest lightly, "She needs you right now. I'll be fine..."

"Yeah...Maybe I should go..." Jacob nodded, but he didn't move.

"It's the right thing to do..." Ann sighed.

"Yeah." Jacob nodded and stepped aside, "You need to rest. I'll leave."

"Wait." Ann pulled him on the sleeve as Jacob started to leave, "Will you come to archbishop's with me though? I was hoping you could be there, even if it's the last time I'll ever see you."

"What's that for?" Asked Jacob, completely lost.

"Well, I have to pay him a visit." Ann shrugged in an indifferent way, "Cause I woke The Shadow."

"Feeling better?" A deep, rough voice rose beside Lilith, but she couldn't seem to understand it. She felt as if the whole world was twirling around her when she finally managed to move a little, and she could barely feel her own eyelids. "Don't move, you hit your head pretty hard." The man covered his palm softly on Lilith's forehead so she won't rip her wound open. "Who are you..." Lilith opened her mouth but her throat was so dry that even she could barely hear herself. "No rush on talking." The man moistened his finger with water and stroked her lips as soft as possible, "You will feel better after you drink some water." There was little struggle Lilith could put up before her world went dark again. The man pushed the button by the side of the bed: "Nurse, get Dr. Sarla, please." "Yes, Mr. Gaumond." "That would hurt her!" "So?!" "Just shut up! Boss will hear you!" Edmund DID hear them. He wasn't sure whether Lilith could hear them though, or if she cared to-- Cause she was crying, quietly but with tears falling down her cheeks nonstop as if there was a snow mountain inside her head melting. How could one cry so much without drinking water...? Edmund sighed in his mind as he handed over another tissue, seeing the last one was soon soaked wet. Whispers rose like bee buzz right outside of the ward door as if someone stole their queen bee. Edmund frowned at himself when he landed on that metaphor. "So..." "What are you talking about?" Edmund dragged Buster a bit further from the ward door as he hissed under his breath. The last thing he needed right now was for Lilith to think that she was abducted! "Sir, before we stop the investigation on her," Buster started with the safest sentence he could find, "We found out that she's currently living with her friend, Emma." "I know, it was in the report." With a shred of frustration in his voice, Edmund hissed under his breath with his eyes fixed on the ward door. He gave her a command to stay put, yet he was still guarding the room like a little boy hovering over his new toy. "Yes, and by the way, it was also this woman, Emma Brown's car that Miss Hayes was driving when she crashed it." Buster continued hastily, seeing Edmund's impatience growing. "And?" Edmund closed his eyes with a deep frowning, trying to keep his temper in control. "And..." Buster hesitated and that

Edmund bowed at Lilith with much earnest, "You may leave after this."Lilith's face softened at his humble gesture. The stern look was gone, but was replaced by a naughty smile: "Fair enough. No, it's not a secret."To her surprise, Edmund was not annoyed by her rebellion but instead was amused."I thought I told you to stay where you were." His hands in his pocket, Edmund leaned in with a grin."And I should obey your command because...?" Lilith asked with a polite and restrained tone."No reason! Haha..." In the end, Jacob went with Ann. "Are you sure you don't want to go attend to your girlfriend?" Ann glanced at Jacob in a casual tone, but her fingers were pure white for gripping tight on the wheel of her roadster out of nervous. She didn't want him to, of course. She needed Lilith away, as far as possible. "I would understand if you go." Ann continued after Jacob answered her with silence, "You know I will. I know how much she means to you." "I called ALL the hospitals in town, and she was nowhere to be found." Jacob let out a heavy sigh, seeing that he cannot avoid this topic. "Aren't you gonna go look for her?" Asked Ann in a small voice, glancing at him cautiously. "And how do you suggest I do that?" Jacob closed his eyes tiredly, "I'm telling you, it's like she vaporized from the face of the earth." Ann remembered the evil grin of that mysterious man, Edmund Gaomond. Even if he was able to save Lilith, Jacob sould have he

"Boss. I got her for you." Buster knocked on the door and got in after he got approval from Edmund. Looking up, the first thing Edmund caught with his eyes was the pout on Lilith's face, but she didn't notice that Edmund put something in his drawer the moment they came in. "I thought we have an agreement." Edmund pushed the file in front of him a bit further away, smirking at Lilith, "I don't remember putting down 'try to escape' as part of your job description, my little maid." "I'm NOT," Lilith threw off Buster's hand on her arm, "trying to escape!" "Then why does my loyal guard has to bring you in like this?" Edmund chuckled as he came out of his desk, "Having fun playing hide and seek?" "And I don't remember losing my total freedom is part of the deal either!" Lilith protested furiously, "I wouldn't have to try to get out if I didn't lose my phone in the crash." Edmund rose his eyebrow and closed his drawer with a natural move as h

"It is wakened..." Archbishop's old and low voice put a shade of awe on the face of everyone in the room. They were all high levels of the coven, all except Jacob, who came at Ann's request. "Hank, they should know." Said the archbishop, closing his eyes tiredly as if falling asleep. "Yes, archbishop." Hand bowed at the old man and turned to the rest, "As you all know, I have taken some glimpse into our fate, doom, awaits us." The whole room listened in silence. "But sometimes, only sometimes, there are visions of a bright future for us, instead of doom." Hank continued, "But ONLY sometimes." Ann had a bad feeling when Hank stressed on that "sometimes" so many times. "But there's something I haven't told you," Hank took a deep breath before he continued, "These visions, they are prophecies of the same time." "What does that mean?" Jacob scanned the room in confusion only to realize that the confusion was not universal.

Edmund muttered to the door in front of his face. Yet again, silence. Edmund knew what he had to say, the thing that Lilith wanted to hear but he just wasn't used to say it...ever. "I know I overreacted yesterday, and I'm sorry, okay?!" Edmund sighed before he rose his voice defeatedly, "I AM sorry. You didn't do anything wrong, well, except--" Voices rose, but not from the room. It was from the hallway-- "What's the boss doing?" "Talking to a door...well, correction, apologizing to a door." "I guess we are keeping her this time then?" Buster asked with an innocent enough tone, and still got himself a glare-- Edmund didn't like this subject, because he wasn't sure how Lilith would decide. And he hated waiting other's decision. But Lilith didn't have any spare mind to really make any decision. The new witch life was too strange for her to settle in-- Light shot out of her hand everytime she had even the slightest mood swing. Lilith woke up in the middle of the night, and Edmund was sitting in a chair right next to her bed. "What in the name of Jesus!" Edmund shot open his eyes, apparently also a bit shocked: "Sorry! I dozed off...How are you feeling?" The last thing Lilith remembered was Ann inviting her to the private room in the library to "talk", so waking up to Edmund sitting next to her was as if the past several days was a super long horrible dream. As if she never woke up from the crashing night. "Why am I here?!" Lilith asked in panic, "What happened?! I thought I was in the library..." Considering her reaction -- well, her fury -- the last time he suggested to Lilith that Jacob might cause her crash, Edmund decided against dumping the nightmare-like day to her. Instead, Edmund just sat down on the side of the bed and patted her on the head-- "You are okay now...shhh--" "Don't!--" Lilith threw her wrist and hit Edmund's hand away, y

Several voices shouted at the same time. Some of them were mages, shouting at the fact that "Lilith" got hold of the wand; Mike, Ann and another mage standing near Algood were shouting at Algood because they didn't want the body control spell lifted. If only shouting works. They never do. "Lilith" got the wand in her bloody hand, and then blacked out the next second, like a puppet who just lost its strings. The wand also dropped from her lifeless hand, rolling away and stopped in the middle of the room. "Buster, the wand!" Edmund shouted as he managed to stand up with Lilith's body held in his arms, "Sarla!" Buster jumped out at the wand the second he heard his name called out, and Sarla was already at Edmund's side checking on Lilith's status. "Boss, she's fine, just out cold." Sarla glanced at Edmund's concerned look, "Let me check your wound--" "I'm fine." Said Edmund impatiently with one handheld on his left chest hard, "Wh

Sure, Edmund sighed in his mind -- he wasn't even that surprised. He was now pretty sure Ann was the one who crashed Lilith's car, so he doubt if he'd be surprised if one day he finds out that Ann had killed someone. "So, Mr. Algood," Edmund turned to Jacob's father with a dangerous smile, "Body control spell is your specialty?" "I don't owe you any explanation!" Algood snorted coldly, "Don't get too comfortable here, wolf!" "I wonder why you would help," Edmund sneered, ignoring Algood's attitude, fixing his eyes on "Lilith." There was now visible fear on "Lilith's" face. "Would you care if I kill..." Edmund's eyes fell slowly on Algood, "whoever inside her?" "Of course not!" Algood scolded furiously, "What are you implying?!" "I'm not implying anything," Edmund let out a light laugh, "I'm SAYING, you are the one who cast this spell, and my guess is, the person who is controlling Lilith's action is your son, Jacob Algood."

Though a bit surprised, Edmund was actually waiting for this moment -- Whoever made Lilith into this weird puppet, Edmund needed them to use her to reveal themselves so he could save her. Lilith picked up her left leg and threw her knee into Edmund's abdomen. Edmund back a step fast, trying to avoid her leg-- She would hurt herself if the crash happened -- A werewolf's body was was too strong for a human's kick! Edmund rose up Lilith's right arm into the air so she was barely standing on the ground, and losing all the momentum she had as her body bumped into his chest. Usually this would stop one from trying to make more damage but Lilith swang her body as if her wrist couldn't feel pain, and the second Edmund realized that whoever possessed her body didn't care about her, he had to let her go-- And this time Lilith's foot hit his hand and the suitcase flew out and slid to Ann's feet. "Guess it wasn't her after all." Hank let out a relieved sigh-- For a second, he was really worried that Ann just might be the one causing the crash! "I'm sorry for the unfortunate crash," The archbishop sighed lightly, "Maybe some hothead went for her after Hank's vision changed on the meeting, but if so, at least she would be safe now." "That would be the best." Edmund nodded politely, not letting anyone see the suspicion in his eyes, "I have only one question before I gave this suitcase to you: who would be in charge of this wand, if you were to waken it?" "No one." The archbishop shook his head, "And I don't want your blood." This time Edmund was genuinely surprised -- he actually thought his blood was what the coven was after. Why would they need him if they didn't want to use his blood to waken the wand?! "I had the exact same surprised face," The archbishop smiled warmly, "When my mentor told me he didn't want to waken the wand,

The old man held out his hand to Lilith, "Let me take a look." Lilith took a quick glance at Mr. Algood before she walked toward the archbishop slowly, and put her hand in that wrinkled palm lightly. The old man held her hand as he closed his eyes as if he was listening carefully to something. Everyone in the room was holding back their breath as if that would disturb this mysterious ritual. Putting down his glass, Edmund took a step forward to Lilith, and Ann noticed his intention immediately-- "Please," Ann curved her lips as she announced to the room, "This is the girl who asked to be turned on our last meeting, Jacob's girlfriend, Lilith Hayes." Lilith stood there, not even blinking as if it wasn't her name that just silenced the room. "What is this?" Hank frowned -- he just got out from the archbishop's study, "I didn't know--" "Sorry, Hank," Mike, Ann's father put a hand on his shoulder, "it was my mistake. Not flat enough to be accepted by Edmund though-- "You have been pretty bold lately," Edmund squinted his eyes with a frown, "Maybe I have given you too much freedom?"
