I stood there in shock to see my entire family, including my mate, standing before me. But as I faced Asher again, he was bright red, almost as if he was going to blow a gasket, and I looked down to my hand still holding Zade’s.
Shit, well, this got awkward fast.
I let go of Zade, and he looked around confused. “Pais, who are these people?” he questioned, then quickly realized as Asher stepped forward. “Ah, you are the mate,” he added.
Asher rushed at Zade, tackling him to the ground. They rolled around like school kids fighting on the playground. But Zade, of course, being more mature and having Lycan blood coursing through his veins, got the upper hand.
“Calm down, kid,” Zade ordered.
Asher and I ran forever, it seemed, when we stopped taking a breather. I doubled over, catching my breath, and when I finally could talk, I turned to face Asher.“I never planned on hurting you. I am sorry,” I apologized. He looked down to his feet for a second, then back up. “I just want you to be happy, Paisley,” He replied.I smiled. “Thank you.”We both turned quickly as we heard footsteps behind us, and when I turned around, I found my little brother standing there out of breath.“Hunter, what the hell are you doing?” I snapped, grabbing him by his arm. “You can’t be here. It’s too dangerous,” I proclaimed.
As the gunfire rang out around us, I lifted my head to see where my brother was to find him not moving on the floor.“HUNTER?!” I screamed hysterically, thinking that my little brother, who was in my care, could be dead.I frantically squirmed to get away from Zade to run for my brother, but he kept me in place until the gunfire stopped. All went silent, and two of Nico’s goons walked over to my brother, and my rage surged through me. I forced Zade off me. I’m not sure how with him being all muscle.I ran towards the goons full force as Asher and Zade both yelled my name, but I ignored their demands.I rammed into one goon so hard he flew backward into a wall and turned my rage towards the other goon.
3 months later...As I trudged down the stairs towards the kitchen, the house was full of pack members bustling around, rushing pastries and food towards the backyard. I sighed and continued. When I walked in, Asher and my parents sat at the table talking.“Morning, sweetie,” My mom said as she held Payton in her arms, rocking her to sleep. I stared at Payton. It must be such an amazing feeling to make another life with the person you loved and to have them be there to love that child together. Still, sorrow came over me, and I forced myself to look away from my little sister.I went straight for the fridge to grab the orange juice, not even acknowledging them. I grabbed a glass pouring my juice, then turned to face them as I took a drink and saw them staring at me t
It’s been 7 months since Zade’s death, and it has been hard dealing with the loss. My soul aches as a part of me was lost for eternity. Still, Asher has made the process easier by being there for me and understanding the bond Zade and I had. We both decided that we would not officially finish our bond until after our wedding, which is today.I showered early to spend more time with Stephanie and Elaina, who came to help me get ready.“Paisley, come sit down so I can do your hair,” Stephanie said, gesturing towards the chair.I walked over, sitting, and Stephanie spun me around in the swivel chair, and I instantly felt sick. “Steph, you’re going to make me puke, then you have to restart my makeup,” I eyed her in the mirror.&ldquo
“Good afternoon, thank you for calling the law offices of Davis and son; this is Paisley. How may I assist you today?” I answered politely. “Yes, of course, let me get your name and number, and I will have him call you later this evening,” I took their message and finished the call.I grabbed some files and took them to the back room.“Paisley, you’re still here?” Jordan asked, coming around the corner.“Yeah, just finishing up some things from yesterday, then I’ll be heading out,” I proclaimed.“You should have taken the day off. It’s your birthday that husband of yours is more fun to look at than these papers,” she snickered.Oh yeah, about my
Quickly, I called Alicia to stay with Zadie while I ran down to the station. “Okay, it shouldn’t take long if Zadie wakes; tell her mommy will be right back. Oh, and please don’t mention Asher hasn’t come home yet; I don’t want her to worry,” I explained as I picked up my purse and headed for the door.“Yes Luna, Zadie is in excellent hands,” Alicia assured me while walking me to the door.As I stepped onto the porch, I spun back around. “Oh, and you have my number if you need to call me,” I added, and Alicia agreed. Then I hurried to the car.As I drove to the station, my heart pounded, and I bit my nails almost to the point of nonexistence. If the cops asked me to speak in person, this was terrible news, and since Asher never came home, I knew it had some
Waking up gasping for air and noticing that everything was pitch black, they tied my hands behind my back with my feet taped to a chair. I take a deep breath to get a scent of familiarity, but all I smell is mildew and sewer. Water trickled, and the air was cold. Basement or dungeon? It wouldn't surprise me with the shit I have seen if I were in the mid-evil times.I tugged at the ropes. But it’s no use. Wolfsbane covers them, and every single movement burned into my skin. My mouth is free, so I try my luck and face the new monster that leads the Lycans. “Hey, asshole, show your face, you fucking coward!” I shouted.Soon, I heard the door rattle open. Then it slammed shut. The scent that filled my nostrils overwhelmed me. No, it can’t be.
I pushed my way through the crowd with Zadie in tow, but when I came to where the cries were coming from, it wasn't my mother. It was Amelia curled into a ball, hugging Asher's baby blanket tightly in her grasp as Paul consoled her with his own tear-filled eyes. The crowd gasped as their eyes fell on me, causing Paul to look my way, and that is when I saw my father holding my mother as she balled into his shoulder."Paisley?" Paul said, surprised. My mother's head spun. "Paisley!" She cried in relief.I stared around at the crowd. "What is going on?" I asked, perplexed. My father and mother hurried to my side, whisking Zadie and me away to the kitchen. As we entered, my mother wav
