Mariah POV
Heading out of the house, the first thing I noticed was that Nick switched cars. I must admit he has good taste for cars. He is now driving a White GMC. We reach the car, and when I get in, my best friend Rose sits on her phone. She is wearing a royal blue casual dress with some silver sandals. Her hair is in a high ponytail, and I can tell she is wearing some blue eye shadow, which she does only for special occasions. She is more of a nude-colored type of girl. We head to the party, and as we get close, we see a lot of cars in the driveway. We are now at the Silver Mountain pack, and the scenery is quite beautiful. Nick parks in one of the reserved parking for alphas, and we all get out of the car.“You guys made it,” Logan says.
“You know we never miss a good party,” Josh replies.
“Well, just head inside. Everyone is out in the back by the pool,” Logan says.
“Alright, cool,” Nick replies.
We head to the backyard, and what I see shocks me. The place is beautiful, from the lights to the pool. The whole place is breathtaking.
“You guys want something to drink?” Josh asks.
“Tequila,” We all say at the same time.
“You’re getting in the pool later?” Rose asks me.
“You know it, I brought my bikini,” I reply.
“I did too, and I can’t wait to put it on so Amma head to the bathroom,” Rose giggles.
“Go ahead, I’ll wait here. I need to have a few drinks in my system before I jump in,” I reply.
“Okay, I’ll be right back,” Rose says.
Now it’s just Nick standing here. I turn my back to him and start looking around. This house is gorgeous. I see a few kids from school, and they wave at me, so I wave back. Suddenly, I feel a presence behind me a little too close, and by the sent, I can tell it is Nick.
“You look breathtaking today.” He whispers huskily in my ear.
I hitch my breath to not let out a moan. I hate how my body reacts to him.
“Thank You,” I say with a shaky breath.
“I hate how u have all these men’s eyes on you; it makes me want to rip their eyes out.” He replies with a growl.
“What do you mean? Nobody is looking at me. Plus, you don’t own me, Nick.” I reply, annoyed.
I elbow him so he can get away from me and start walking away in search of my best friend.
The asshole who he thinks he is. His girlfriend Mila needs to hurry up and get here to get him off my back. I start heading upstairs, looking for Rose, when I hear giggling. Now, who has my best friend laughing like that, I wonder. When I finally get closer, I see her leaning against the wall in her royal blue bikini, looking beautiful. But who is that guy who has her blushing and giggling?“There you are. I have been looking for you. I got worried that you got lost or something.” I say with a smirk.“Ha ha, very funny. No, I was just here talking to Alpha Taylor.” Rose says.
“Hey, nice to meet you.” He says and extends his hand for a handshake.
“Mariah,” I say and reach out to shake his hand.
“Well, I’m going to leave you two talking. I’m going to go put on my bathing suit. I say with a light smirk.
“Okay, I’ll see you in the pool. We are going to go and get in,” Rose replies.
“Okay, have fun,” I say and walk into the bathroom.
I take my clothes off, put them in a bag, and put my bikini on. “Damn, I look good,” I say to myself, looking in the mirror. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. “Just a minute, almost done.” And another bang on the door. What the hell didn’t I just tell them in a minute. I walk to the door, ready to curse someone out, but when I open the door, I’m shocked to see who is on the other side.
“What the hell are you doing here, Nick,” I ask, totally annoyed that he is here. He is looking at me like a predator looks at his prey, his eye changing color from blue to gold, showing his wolf fighting for control. His eyes return to normal, meaning he sent his wolf to the back of his mind. “What do you want Nick?” I ask and cross my hands. He turns around and locks the door. What the hell? I think to myself. What is he doing?
“Why are you closing the door?” I ask, feeling nervous. He starts walking towards me, and I start backing up. The look he is giving me makes my stomach flutter. He puts his hands on the wall and cages me in. He leans in. “Who said you can wear a bikini as tempting as this, Riah?” he whispers in my ear huskily. I look at him in shock. What did he just say? Who the hell does he think he is? I try to push him off me, but the bastard grabs my hands and pin them over my head. “Now, Riah, that’s not how you treat your Alpha.” He says with a smirk.
“No, you are right. That is not how I treat my Alpha, but it is how I treat the asshole manhandling me.” I snap. He gets close, pinning me to the wall. I bite my lip when I feel his dick pressing against me. His free hand runs slowly down my neck, going down between my breasts. “You know, Riah, you like seeing me mad.” He whispers, looking at my lips.
“You get mad because you want to. I’m not doing anything to you, Nick.” I roll my eyes and say.
“But you are. I hate the way these horny wolves look at you.” He says and growls.
“They’re only looking; it’s not like they are touching. What am I saying? I don’t have to explain myself to you.” I reply. He suddenly lets go of my hands and grips my chin. “Nobody is allowed to touch you but me. Do you understand?” He says coldly. I swallow hard. Something about his possessiveness turns me on, and I hate it. He slams his lips against me, and I suppress a moan. He pulls away and starts kissing down my neck. “Tell me your mine.” He says and nibbles my ear. “Nick, this has to stop. You have Mila, and my brother is your best friend.” I reply and push him off me. I grab my things and leave the bathroom.
Mariah's POVThe sound of light footsteps in the hallway reached me just before the door to my room creaked open. My parents were the first to step in, their faces breaking into expressions of pure relief when they saw I was awake."Oh, sweetheart," my mom whispered, her voice thick with emotion as she hurried to my side. "You're awake." She leaned down, kissing my forehead before taking my hand in hers, her fingers warm and gentle. My dad stood behind her, his usual stoic demeanor giving way to a rare softness. He gave me a small smile, one that didn't quite reach his eyes, but it was enough. He didn't need to say anything—his presence alone was comforting."Thank God, Mariah," he muttered, his voice hoarse with unshed tears. He squeezed my hand before turning to Nick, who still sat by my side, never straying too far. "You've been through hell."Nick, who had been holding my hand ever since I woke up, gave a small nod but didn't speak. His eyes remained glued to me, like he was afrai
Josh’s POVI don’t remember walking to Julia’s guest room. One moment, I was standing outside of Mariah’s hospital room, my mind a mess, my body restless with emotions I couldn’t untangle. The next, I was here, standing at her door, my heart hammering against my ribs like a war drum. The bond is suffocating. It pulls at me, demanding I be near her, touch her, claim her. But Julia—Julia is hesitant.I swallow hard and lift my hand, knocking twice before I can second-guess myself.Silence.For a moment, I think she won’t answer. That maybe she’s ignoring me, or worse—maybe she’s inside, regretting everything. Then, the door creaks open.Julia stands there, bathed in the dim glow of her porch light, her dark eyes meeting mine with something unreadable. She’s barefoot, her hair loose and messy, and the sight of her like this—soft, unguarded—hits me like a punch to the gut. She’s beautiful. And she’s mine. The thought shakes me to my core.“What are you doing here, Josh?” Her voice is quie
Mariah's POVA breath shudders from my lips, my body aching as if I’ve been torn apart and stitched back together again. My eyelids feel impossibly heavy, my limbs sluggish, my throat raw. Every part of me protests as I force my eyes open, the dim light above me sending a dull throb through my skull.“Nick?” My voice is barely above a whisper, but it’s enough.A choked sound breaks the silence, raw and filled with so much emotion it makes my chest tighten. I blink slowly, my vision still blurred, but I don’t need to see clearly to recognize the warmth surrounding me, the familiar scent of pine and earth that grounds me even as my body trembles.Nick.The bed shifts slightly, and then his face comes into focus. His usually sharp, confident eyes are red-rimmed, his jaw clenched so tightly I can see the strain in his expression. He looks wrecked. Like he’s been carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders for far too long.“You’re awake,” he breathes, his voice breaking as he grips
Nick’s POVThe moment I step into the hospital room her parents give me a sad smile, my heart clenches like a fist inside my chest.“We will go home and get some of her things.” Jennifer says and I nod. Her and her husband leave the room leaving Josh and me staring silently at Mariah. The steady beep of the heart monitor is the only sound breaking the silence, but even that doesn’t ease the fear curling in my gut.Mariah lies still, too still. Her dark lashes rest against her pale cheeks, her body fragile beneath the thin white blanket. Wires snake from her arms, monitors tracking her every breath, yet she seems so… lifeless.I stop at the foot of the bed, frozen, unable to take another step. My body screams at me to move, to touch her, to make sure she’s real, but my mind is stuck in the memories of the past few hours—the fear, the chase, the moment I thought I’d never see her again.I should have been there. The guilt crashes into me like a tidal wave, drowning out everything else
Nick’s POVThe tension in the air is thick as we make our way down the hall toward the interrogation room. My mind is still reeling from what the two women did for Mariah. They risked everything to save her, and I need to know exactly what happened—and who’s responsible. But something feels… off.Josh has been quiet. Too quiet. His footsteps are heavy beside me, but his energy is all over the place. His usual steady presence feels… unhinged. His breathing is sharp, his fists clenching and unclenching like he’s barely keeping himself from losing control.“Josh, you good?” I ask, glancing at him as we approach the door.“Yeah…” His voice is strained, but his jaw is locked so tight I’m surprised he hasn’t cracked a tooth. But the second I open the door, everything changes. The moment the scent of the two women hits the air, Josh freezes beside me like he’s been hit by a freight train.“Josh?” I say again, but he’s not listening. His entire body goes rigid, his eyes locking onto the small
Mariah’s POV (In Her Mind)Darkness. Thick and suffocating. It wraps around me like a heavy blanket, pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. I don’t know how long I’ve been here. Days? Weeks? Time doesn’t exist in this place. It’s just me and the emptiness, stretching endlessly in every direction.“Is this what death feels like?”The thought whispers through my mind, chilling me to the core. But no… no, I can’t be dead. I refuse to believe that. There’s too much left unfinished. Too many people who need me.“Nick…”His name echoes through my mind, a lifeline in the sea of nothingness. I hold onto it tightly, letting the memory of his touch, his voice, his love, ground me. I picture his face—those intense, stormy eyes filled with worry, his jaw clenched in determination. I know he’s out there, searching for me, refusing to give up.“I’m still here,” I whisper to him, even though I know he can’t hear me. “I’m fighting. Please don’t give up on me.”But the bond between us feels…
