“ I’m sure you are all aware of what would happen to you if any of the rules are broken. In no doubt, the punishment will be severe that you would wish for nothing but death. So think twice before breaking any.” She says sternly, watching every one of us. Her face held no emotions.
“ Number one, remember to keep your head down always. More importantly, in front of the king. Only raise your heads up when asked, too. Number two, don’t even think about escaping, ever. You won’t get that far. Number three, there should be no act of disobedience or resistance against your master. These are the three major rules to survive here. Do not forget them.” “ The rest will be taken care of by Elvire. She is in charge after me. She is the one to meet if any issue you wish to discuss arises. Follow the guards, and they will take you to her.” She looked around the room. “ That’s all for now.” We stayed in line, following the guards out into a corridor. We walked down the stairs, stopping in an open hall with a lady no more than five years older than me. I couldn’t help admiring how beautiful she looked. Even with the maid gown, she stood with grace. I give it to them, they do have great skins. Every beast female I have ever come across all have this glow in them. “ Okay, everyone, listen up. There won’t be much time to list out the remainder of the rules, so they would be pasted on the wall of the hallway for you all to go through.” The lady spoke, her voice sounding so adorable. “ You get the rest of the day off, giving you a chance to mingle with other maids and get your footings on how it works here. Make no mistake, you won’t be getting any more free days after today.” Of course, we were nothing but slaves to them. “ You will each get your task before the end of the day. Your uniforms are already placed in your respective room. That’s all, you are free to pick a room.” My room, just like the other Palace, was small and plain with a tiny window by the side of the wall. But still, I had my space, which was more than enough. I walked over to where my uniforms were placed. They looked more decent and in better shape than my previous one. There wasn’t anything too unique to see in the room as I decided to take a bit of rest. I climbed onto the bed, slowly closing my eyes. It wasn’t long after that I fell asleep. ♧♧♧ I was woken up by a bang on the door, jumping to my feet. I tidied up my hair and dressed before opening the door to see the rest of the maids standing by their doors with their heads down. I followed suit, not asking a question as I kept my head down. “ heads up.” Elvire said, standing by the far end of the hall, with her hands clapped to the back. “ I hope you guys had time to go through the rest of the list.” She says, scanning through the hall. “ Without wasting any more time, I’m going to call out your name, as well as your task. Is that clear.” “ Yes, ma’am?” We all chorused together. “ Good, let’s get right into it.” She unfolds the paper in her hands. “ Bailey Norman.” A young lady, not less than twenty-five, raised her hand. “ Kitchen duties.” “ Josiane Stuart.” Just like the first lady, a petite girl my age raised her hand. “ Garden duties. ” I stopped paying attention to the list of names being called until I heard my name and my head shot up. “ Micaela Whitlock” I raised my hand, trying my best not to shake even though I was failing miserably. “ You will be attending to the King’s quarter.” “ What......” I whispered, a look of horror on my face. “ You are to serve the king as a personal servant.” Elvire says, giving me a pointed glare. I stood frozen, my hands clenched tightly to my clothes as Elvire carried on with the names like she hadn’t just assigned me to death himself. “ I suggest you get as much rest as possible today because tomorrow you resume back to work. From 5am in the morning to 9pm. Remember, tardiness won’t be allowed. You will be punished if you are even a second late.” Elvire’s warning rang through the hall. She gave us one last look before leaving the hall. As she left, the hall was filled with silence. I could feel eyes on me, the glance of sympathy being thrown my way from both old and new maids. The maids cleared out of the hall, going back to their respective room. I, on the other hand, remained rooted in my spot. Numbness filled me up. My mind and body refused to co-operate with me. I swore I could hear my heart beating fast, I’m surprised it was still intact. Struggling to move my legs, going back to my room. I fell to the bed, a lone tear fell for my eye. I guess I will be seeing my family soon. ♤♤♤ Don’t forget to leave a comment and follow my I*******m page @queeniieees for more of my stories."Come on, sweetie, I know you are excited, but you need to sit down if you want to meet Alec." I said this to my daughter as I braided her hair."Okay, mummy," she says, giggling at the funny faces her brother makes in the mirror."Can you hand me that, Aida, love?" I asked my other daughter, pointing towards the red ribbon beside her."Yes, mummy," her small voice said, picking up the ribbon and handing it to me. I tie the end of the braid, kissing the top of Ayah's head. It's been twelve years since our fight with Omelia ended with victory, and ten years since I gave birth to Aelius, Orpheus and my son. To say there hadn’t been ups and downs during these ten years would be an understatement, but we were able to scale through. Two years after Omelia was captured, news of her death reached our ears. Her mental health had deteriorated so significantly that she was placed in a mental institute. But she only got worse and worse, up until her passing.Joanne, on the other hand, left the
Godiva's Pov ( Night of Josiana’s Wedding.)"She looks really beautiful." Micaela gushes from beside me as we both stare at Josiana, who was wrapped in Daniel's embrace. As they both danced together, their gazes locked on each other, the rest of the world seemed to be out of existence."She really does; they look so happy." I said. I felt happy for them but, at the same time, couldn’t help but let out a sad smile. I wondered if I would ever get to feel something like this or have what Josiana and Micaela had.I sighed, turning to look at Micaela, only to find her already staring at me, the look on her face unreadable." What...""How long will you keep pushing Kyros to the side?" She asked, her eyes shifting to where he stood a couple of distances behind me before returning back to me. "That man is madly in love with you.""Maybe, but he might feel that way because of the mating bond.""You and I know that is not true." She counters. "This is far from the mate bond, and you know that
MICAELA’S POV."Ah!" I gasped, and my eyes closed. The contractions started at midnight. Earlier, they came at slow intervals, but now they were coming at shorter intervals." Micaela!" Joanne said as she clutched my hand. Her brows furrowed, and I could tell she was extremely worried and wanted to give me comfort. "Do you want me to use my power? It will numb your pains while you give birth."I shake my head as the contractions pass. My face was pale, my hair clung to my forehead as sweat beaded. Orpheus, who was sitting on the other side of the bed, was watching with pure terror in his eyes. Every time I would shriek because of the contraction, he would start pacing the room. His eyes would flicker every now and then, letting me know he was shifting to his wolves before returning back to himself."Micaela," he called out to me in a soft voice. "Why don’t you let Joanne help you? I can’t bear seeing you go through such pain," he said with a strained voice, coming over towards me. His
I spent the rest of the day preparing for the wedding. I was glad that everything was over and that Daniel and I could finally be together. Though I had been surprised when he told me who Micaela was to him, at the same time I was glad to know she was family, not that she hadn’t been. She and Godiva are family to me, but knowing she was going to be my sister-in-law made me ten times happier. With a smile on my face, I turned my attention to the door when I heard a knock."Come in!" I yelled. With only a few short hours to go until the wedding, my nerves were starting to get the best of me."Hey, how is it going?" Micaela asked, walking in with Godiva, who had a box of makeup in her arms, while Micaela held onto a black bag with what I’m guessing was my wedding dress."Micaela, Godiva," I said, rising from my seat and giving them both a hug. "I’m so glad you both are here; heaven knows my nerves are getting the best of me." I said, letting out a deep breath."Trust me, I know how that
I was standing close to the window, taking in the beautiful sight of the rain, when the door to the bedroom opened and Orpheus walked in.His footsteps echo through the floor, stopping behind me with his hands wrapped around my waist, his head resting at the crock of my neck while his hands rested on my stomach." Hey." I said it softly, pulling my head to the side to give him more room." Hi." He whispers gently, taking a deep breath."How did it go?""Exactly how I expected it to go." He replies. "You know, after everything she has done, I can’t help but feel this ache in my heart. I’m not sure if it’s right to feel this way, and I can’t help but beat myself up for even feeling a bit of remorse for her."I pulled away from his hold, turning to look at his dejected face. Both my hands cupped his cheeks, and his wrapped around my waist."Despite the kind of person Omelia is, she still birthed you. It’s understandable if you feel hurt; she was the only family you had."Orpheus sighed,
Orpheus Pov"Open the gate," I command, staring at the guards in front of the dungeon. I wanted to confirm the news given to me; I needed to see it for myself before believing it to be true."Yes,, your Majesty." One of the guards stationed at the door says as he bows, pulling the door of the dungeon open.I stepped in with Loukas and Kyros trailing behind me, causing me to halt my step. I turned to look at them. "I can handle this myself; why don’t you both carry on with other things?"Kyros and Loukas both looked at each other sceptically, worry visible on both their faces. "Are you sure, Orpheus? She isn’t quite well; do you think you can handle seeing her alone?" Loukas asked."Maybe, maybe not. But I can’t avoid this any longer. I need to put it all behind me." I answered. It was quiet for a while, and they both bowed, making their way away from the dungeon.Letting out a sigh, I made my way down the dark tunnel of the dungeon. I couldn’t help but recall the last time I had been
