(Dr. Albert Curie)
I temporarily stopped my speech when I saw Aiden, the son of Alucard returning to his seat. He is the only pure-blood vampire left after his father was killed by the Grand Alpha during an encounter. Lead by an alpha, wolf packs are strong, they are very difficult to beat especially when they start working together.
I've heard rumors that the Grand alpha has enough strength to rip anyone in half with just a single strike. They can also disguise themselves to get closer to their victims, adding stealth to their approach.
Our intel about them is still far from enough. We have very little understanding about their behavior. We know that they are also smart in their own rights.
Aiden grinned at me and took a seat that was reserved for him. We understand that we owe them our safety, a reason why they act so arrogant around the humans. I would've never helped them make the serum if it wouldn't benefit the human race, I dream to have a peaceful future for my family one day.
In this society, we are trapped between two large predators competing with each other. We are nothing more than their prey. I greet Aiden with a simple nod and smile.
I continued with my speech and finished it. Followed by a haughty round of applause from the crowd. People shook my hand when I walked off the stage. Aiden stood up and offered me his hand. I didn't want to give him my hand, their ability to read minds is well known for us.
"For privacy purposes, Mr. Aiden." he grinned at me.
"Oh. Yeah. Anything for the brilliant Mr. Curie." his hands retreated from me. "Thanks anyway. Because of your work we can now enjoy what daylight has to offer. It is a masterpiece of our generation." waving his hand on air. "Congratulations. We can now protect you even under the scorching sun."
"I'm only doing what is best for our community, for the treaty. Since we humans give our blood to you, it is only fair that you have to protect us even when there's daylight." I didn't hold back what i had in my mind. It really was my main goal why I accepted the project.
"Oohhh. I see. Well that makes perfect sense. You really are quite a brilliant man Mr. Curie. You simply impress me." his smile grew wider almost chuckling while he talked. "Well, since we're about to protect you twice of the time now, how about we demand more blood from your monthly donation?" the smile on his face faded and looked at me straight in the eyes.
"Kidding! I'm just joking you Mr. Curie." He started laughing like a mad man. "Don't worry Mr. Curie, we know our responsibility from the treaty. We need to help each other; our species need to coexist. It is an honor to protect you."
"Thanks." I know that he could see the hatred in my eyes towards him. He was starting to annoy me.
We're only using each other for the sake of survival. Without us, they'll have nothing to feed themselves, hence the reason why turning a human into their kind is prohibited. We are forced to be their livestock, feeding them with our blood.
"Well done Mr. Curie." he tapped my shoulder. I didn't see that coming. He smiled once more, probably had seen something in my mind that interested him."You're a bit worried for your wife? I think I've seen her just a while ago." He definitely peeked through my mind. I was really just looking for her before my speech, wondering where she might be.
I nodded, his grin was annoying to look at.
"I heard that you don't have enough time with each other. Since you've been very busy with your project. I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to tend with your wife's needs Mr. Curie."
"Thank you for your concern Mr. Aiden, we'll surely have enough time to spend after this."
"Oh! That sounds wonderful. Happy honeymoon to the two of you then." He turned his back and walk towards the crowd.
Yes, me and Samantha hasn't done it yet. We were planning to have our first time after the success of my discovery. Of all the things he could say to me, why that?
"Dr. Curie!" hollered one of my colleagues. "The president would like to talk to you." I saw the president walking to my direction escorted by his guards. I smiled at him, he smiled back with eyes lit up with joy.
"We are so proud of you."
"Thank you, Mr. President."
"Well, a deal is a deal. You can now enjoy your retirement."
"I'm very happy to hear that Mr. President." My eyes caught sight of three men, they've been staring at me for quite a while now. First, the waiter... Second was a guy who's talking to a businessman, his eyes were fixed on me. The third guy started to approach me. I sensed danger.
"Excuse me Mr. President." I asked him politely as soon as I saw my wife alone at the terrace. He nodded at me and let me be with my wife.
I took drinks for the both of us, something she would like.
"Samantha." I called her while approaching her. Turn his gazed to me. "You missed my speech." she smiled but her eyes were dull.
"That's a sad smile." I handed her the drink. "Don't you have someone to talk to?"
She just took the glass and stared back at the sky. Breeze started to feel cold. I took my suit and put it around her.
"The moon is bleeding tonight Albert." I looked at it, but my vision was a bit blurry.I placed my drink on the railing. My eyeglasses gathered some fog because of the cold night. I wiped it and put it back. "My parents told me that a wolf is grieving in silence. Its heart bleeds from very bitter pain."
"My mother also told me that we can ask for a wish whenever there's a red moon. Only the most faithful of wishes can be granted." her gaze still fixed on the moon.
"Are you wishing for something?"
"Yes. And I hope this wish is faithful enough to be granted." her voice is confirming her sadness. I should not bring her here then.
"What is it?" She finally looked at me, smiling. "I'm your husband, you can tell me your wish. I might grant it for you." She responded me with a soft laugh.
"You know what I want Albert." I love seeing her face like that.
"Oh, it's settled. I've already talked to the president and the director. I'm officially retired." I was happy to bring her the news. She lightly hit my shoulder.
"I'm happy to hear that Albert."
"I'm sorry if i had to prioritize my work before, i promise to make up for the time we've lost." She pinched my cheek.
"I completely understand Albert. I just want to be happy for the rest of our lives."
"We can start today Samantha." She hugged me and rested her head on my shoulder.
(EL’s POV)
Uncle Rankin advances his Knight within my queen's range, his pawn would take my queen if I fell for this trap, and that's a shame. I advanced my bishop instead and aimed for his tower on the corner, it was an obvious move, he smiled at me.
"It's fine to sacrifice sometimes EL." While taking my pawn on the left side. "Sacrifices are made to take away the danger from your whole clan... Checkmate."
I sighed and smiled. He just taught me its mechanics and was my first time playing the game. But it didn't matter to him, he wasn't holding back.
"Too brutal Uncle Rankin. This is my first game." I pointed out.
"That's the best way to improve yourself, you have to compete with someone better to up your level. This game will sharpen your strategic skills which you can use as a leader."
"Another round."
"Your father is also good at this game. Chess is a human's game, but we can easily beat them at it."
"Naturally." while rearranging his chess pieces, he looked at me and smirked. "Human. They can easily get distracted, but we don't use our ability to beat them. We play fair to gain their respect. That's what your father would always say." he plays the white and takes his first move using his pawn.
"We expect you to have the same integrity. Never use others' weakness to your gain. Always fight fair."I nodded.
We started several times after he beat me. He taught me every possible moves and different strategies of the game. I didn't notice the passing hours. I was enjoying my time with my uncle.
Uncle Rankin and my father have high hopes in me. Being the next heir has big responsibilities, that's why they teach me everything that needs to be learned.

(EL POV)"Checkmate." he announced, he told me the mistakes I made that resulted to my defeat. "Always have multiple plans reserved. If your first plan didn't go well, you can always have your second or third for backup. Never settle." I nodded and rearranged the set again. I'll be satisfied if I'll be able to win even once against him.I listened to everything he told me and applied it to the game. Execute with precision, anticipate your opponent's attacks, sacrifices are needed, every move count, never settle. That’s how confuse me. But… "Checkmate." I proudly announced."Nicely done. You learn fast.""I have the best mentor." I told him and made h
(EL POV)"Kid, nothing can ever take away the grief of my daughter's death. I feel guilty killing those younglings as I know the feeling of loosing someone. Save yourself and prove to us that we are wrong about your kind.""Wenziel!" shouted his fellow vampire. The spear that was aimed at me pierced another vampire instead."I'm sorry Herzog, but this kid needs to prove something to me. I can't let you prevent that from happening." his comrades started to attack him. The old vampire winked at me and started laughing. "I need to finish killing all of them so that no one would know that I'm a traitor of my own kind."He chose to fight on our side.I noticed th

You humans really are fools!" snarl one of them. "Maybe to your kind I am. But you forced us to help them. Your people have been attacking us without restraints.""Vampires are just using you! Your species serve them blindly. You will soon regret your creation Dr. Curie."One of the guards started shooting, the wolf anticipated the gunman and rushed to his direction. He pinned him down and disarmed him. His fellow wol
(Dr. Albert Curie's POV)They opened the door, werewolves were captured and kept inside cages with huge bars made of silver. The beasts were going wild, they growled and howled in their cages around us."They are restless. They are looking for bloodshed. But Nothing to worry, the cages are completely safe." The alpha said. His adviser, Lupoz, nodded at us."We compiled a document for you to study what caused them to act like this." Lupoz said."You're going to ask us to find a cure for t
(EL’s POV)I was pacing myself back and forth at my study room, my hands inside my pocket. Why is Lupoz going to be my next Mentor?"Don't worry Young Lord, I'm just your temporary tutor." he placed a stack of books on my desk. Uncle Rankin already made me answer all of these. Is this a retake? Tss. He's just wasting my time.I miss Uncle Rankin."Should we dismiss our class early, Lupoz?" while I finished his tasks quicker than he might expected."We need to stick
(Dr. Albert’s POV)Samantha was still asleep when I decided to read about the wolves' documents on the rampant attacks. The papers have already taken my full attention. One familiar case instantly caught my interest above others, the incident happened at the hospital where I used to work before. A Shewolf was behind the attack killing hundreds of humans on that day.Dr. Elisha Van Mendevil Laiparus, a well-known doctor. People thought she is one of us, but everyone was shocked when they found out that she was a werewolf. Her kind already captured her before the WSO (Werewolf Slayer Organization) had a chance to lay their hands on her.As I read the whole report, I just
(Dr. Albert Curie’s POV)A tear fell on her cheek. There was not a single day spent in that tower where she didn't cry. Somehow, she has changed, and it's affecting both of us. She has not been the same since we arrived here. Fear clothed her entirety. I miss my old sweet Samantha.I wanted to wipe her tears, but she turned her back on me."Samantha!" she locked the door from the outside of the laboratory when I returned inside.Shit!
