As the sun began its descent beyond the jagged horizon, casting long shadows across the rugged mountain peaks, Serenity found herself maneuvering her car along the mountain trail. The winding path, snaking through dense forests, brought up an otherworldly atmosphere, tinged with a palpable sense of mystery and unease.
The fading light saturated the surroundings with a captivating palette of deep purple and fiery orange, creating an eerie ambiance that had her be on guard. The somber hues painted the forest in an eerie glow, illuminating the gnarled trees as their shadows stretched menacingly across the narrow trail.
As she drove her car on the narrow road, the woman's heart quickened with a mix of trepidation and other inexplicable emotions. Her hands tightly gripped the steering wheel- her knuckles turning white as she navigated further into the forest that only grew darker.
No matter how she tried to dismiss the lingering unease that danced upon her skin, Serenity couldn't escape the bone-chilling sensation of unseen eyes watching her every move.
The rustling leaves whispered secrets, as if the forest itself held untold stories. The wind, gentle yet haunting, brushed against her face, leaving a cold, tingling sensation. Shadows danced across the trail, heightening her fear and causing a shiver to run down her spine.
As her car trundled along the rugged path, the symphony of nocturnal creatures intensified- their eerie melodies harmonizing with the pulsating silence of the night.
In the distance, a lone wolf let out a mournful howl. Branches cracked and leaves rustled under the weight of unseen creatures- their presence felt but not seen. A chorus of crickets filled the air with their persistent chirping.
Watching how the sky was darkening gradually, Serenity instinctively pressed harder on the accelerator- her foot defying the limits of caution and pushing her car beyond its safe threshold.
The Silverclaw Pack lay a considerable distance away from her pack, and the realization that she had underestimated the time it would take to reach her destination sent a pang of regret surging through her heart.
Yesterday, she had left her own pack behind, and after a night spent resting in a nearby hotel, she had risen with the sun, aiming to arrive before dusk.
However, her calculations proved faulty, and the daunting mountain trails, with their labyrinthine twists, conspired to hinder her progress.
Upon checking the map before her, she was glad to see that about fifteen minutes it would take for her to reach her destination.
Aware of the descending nightfall, Serenity couldn't help but succumb to the chilling embrace of the air- her breath forming misty clouds in the car. The temperature dropped steadily, seeping into her very bones, and she had no warm clothes in her hand. Yet she did not dare to venture outside to retrieve warmer attire from her baggage. Fear had woven its web too tightly around her.
Just as her caution began to ease with the decreasing proximity of the Silverclaw Pack, an uproar of disquieting noises abruptly sliced through the air, jolting Serenity's senses into hyperawareness. A furrow etched itself upon her brow, and she tried to drive away from the area as soon as possible.
However, fate was a cruel mistress. Her headlights next happened to flash upon a scene. Her eyes beheld a sight that would be etched into her nightmares for a long period of time, and a gasp escaped her lips.
There, bathed in the glow of her car's luminance, stood a beast-an incarnation of terror and savagery. His hulking frame was towering. The werewolf's obsidian fur rippled across a frame brimming with raw power. Razor-sharp claws, elongated and gleaming with an air of malevolence, mercilessly dug into a lifeless chest, ripping out a still-beating heart- scarlet blood cascading down the werewolf's hand.
Then, as if he noticed her presence, his piercing golden eyes snapped towards her, fixating his unwavering gaze upon her.
As her eyes fell on his, Serenity felt the color drain from her face, leaving behind a mask of ashen pallor. Beads of cold sweat gathered on her forehead. Her racing heart pounded relentlessly, threatening to escape the confines of her ribcage as panic seized her in its unyielding grip. She was at a loss on what to do.
'Under the full moon's ominous glow, he plunges his hand into the chest of his prey, seizing their bloody, pulsating heart, which he devours with savage relish, akin to a monstrous beast.'
Her friend's words clearly rang in her head.
This made her instinctively raise her head. The full moon hung overhead, radiating an uncanny luminosity.
A knot tightened in her chest, the icy grip of fear constricting her heart. A morbid question clawed its way into her consciousness.
Was he going to dig her heart out next and devour it?
No, she did not want to die soon.
There was a lot left for her to accomplish.
Desperation welled within her, fueling an unyielding determination to survive.
With her heart pounding in synchrony with the rapid rhythm of her racing thoughts, she instinctively slammed her foot down upon the car's accelerator, and the vehicle hurtled forward with a surge of unrestrained speed. She dared not entertain the notion of those savage claws descending upon her vulnerable form.
Her eyes squeezed shut, her vocal cords unleashing a scream that resounded through the night.
As she distanced herself considerably from the menacing presence of the werewolf, Serenity felt the burden upon her shoulders begin to ease, allowing a long-held breath to escape her trembling lips.
Astonishingly, the monstrous being did not pursue her.
Probably his appetite has already been sated.
She shook her head at the silly conjecture.
No matter what the case was, this happened to be none of her business.
Nevertheless, the times were peaceful now according to what she learned. Although in the past there used to be a lot of rogue attacks, it decreased by a large amount now. Therefore, for the most part, the werewolf society was a safe place.
Even though there can be small fights over territory, they get resolved pretty fast.
That's why, although she had been living in the werewolf community for so long, this was the first time Serenity chanced upon such a brutal carnage.
This served as a stark reminder of the raw power that set them apart from humanity. Their imposing stature, their formidable bodies, and their razor-sharp claws were undeniable testaments to their superiority. In a mere heartbeat, those lethal appendages could sentence her to death.
She shuddered.
Her thoughts ground to a halt as she neared the imposing gate that marked the territory of the Silverclaw Pack. Towering walls encased the domain— a physical manifestation of the Alpha's territorial dominance.
Guards stood vigilantly, exuding an overwhelming presence that set her on edge.
She pushed open the car door, preparing to step out. But then, her eyes caught a glimpse of him.
Bathed in the soft, ethereal glow of the twilight sky, a figure stood before Serenity, his presence arresting and impossible to ignore. Serenity estimated his height to be over 6'5"- his stature towering over hers, emphasizing his dominance.Tousled locks of dark hair cascaded with an untamed grace, teasing the edges of his strong jawline and grazing his broad shoulders. It was as if each rebellious strand of hair mirrored the wild spirit that coursed through his veins. It was his eyes-a striking shade of steely blue-that held her captive. They were like twin mirrors reflecting the intensity of a tempest brewing within, giving a glimpse into the enigma that lay beneath the surface. As his piercing gaze fell upon her, an electric current seemed to surge through the air. Like a predator stalking its prey, it was as though he possessed the ability to delve into the very depths of her soul.He commanded attention, exuding both danger and seduction in equal measure.Serenity's breath hitch
Richard knocked on the door a couple of times before he received the permission to enter. He pushed the door open gently before indicating her to step in.Feeling the tension emanating from the inside of the room, all the flux of courage she had earlier depleted at an increasing rate, and her eyes fell on Richard, silently begging him to join her in.Although both of them were strangers to her, Serenity always had a strong intuition she trusted well and had goosebumps at the thought of seeing the Alpha of Silverclaw Pack alone. She blamed Jane for poisoning her ears.Instead of comforting her when he sensed her palpable nervousness, he placed his hand on her shoulder and pushed her in before closing the door behind her.Serenity stumbled a step before she raised her head to look at the Alpha. Her breath was caught stuck in her throat. It was the menacing yet handsome man from earlier. His gray blue eyes intently stared at her, almost paralyzing her. He leaned against the chair in a re
"...What a weirdo! Speaking of manners, he doesn't have any manners himself. No, I am a doctor. Is it that easy being a doctor? Shouldn't he respect them? That psychopath. No wonder no one likes him."The feminine voice resonated from the microphone, slicing through the silence like a razor. In the monitor, the back of the woman could be seen as she angrily stomped her feet on the ground."Even for an Alpha, don't you think it is a little too lowly to spy on a woman's bedroom," commented Richard Black as he leaned against the wall. There was a slight hint of amusement in his eyes. The steely blue eyes were raised from the computer screen. Dissatisfaction was clearly written in them, casting an air of palpable tension across the room."I wouldn't be forced to do something so bothersome if you weren't adamant of having her as the pack's doctor," the Alpha expressed, furrowing his eyebrows."She was right, you know. No one with actual skills, other than her, applied for our pack," Richar
Was this how animals in the zoos felt like?Serenity questioned in her mind in response to the scrutinizing gazes on her. The intensity of the gazes seemed to cast her as a novel specimen, subjected to the keen examination of curious scientists embarking on a discovery of the unfamiliar.A discomfort akin to being dissected under the analytical gaze of inquisitive minds settled within her.The only man out of the three cooks couldn't conceal his astonishment, blurting out, "It is really a human. This is the first time I have seen one."That almost made Serenity's jaw drop. It was fair to say that humans were more common in the outside world than werewolves. Humans can be found in almost every corner of the world. How sheltered and ignorant do you have to be in order to have never seen a human? That should never be the case unless the werewolves weren't allowed to leave their packs. However, that's absolutely nonsensical because the pack's territory could only encompass so much, and
The thick and suffocating atmosphere in the room seemed to disperse momentarily when Richard's hand landed on the Alpha's shoulder.A flicker of amusement danced in Richard's eyes as he patted Kieran's right shoulder, trying to ease the palpable strain."Now, if you keep staring at it so intently, you are going to poke a hole through it," Richard quipped. Observing Kieran's stoic demeanor, he pressed on, "I am starving just like the rest of the pack. Where is the Alpha Kieran who values time? You are not going to mull over a woman's words, are you?"Kieran's intense glare focused on Richard as he forcibly slapped away Beta's hand, pushing off the jug in his grasp. The atmosphere crackled with unspoken tension as he declared, "You are just as obnoxious as her."The smile on Richard's face deepened, and he corrected, "I would call that having a personality. Wasn't she cute?"Unfazed by his Beta's banter, Kieran withdrew into himself, tucking his hands into his pant's pockets. He walked
Janice finally remembered what she was here for.The woman assumed a stern countenance and cleared her throat before vocalizing, "Look at you wasting my time. I am here for some modifications.""Modifications?" Serenity repeated, confused. "Are you going to fix up this infirmary?"Serenity stared at the woman from top to bottom. Well, the redhead appeared to be strong although not right in the brain. That fired Janice up, and she raised her voice. "What the fuck do you mean by that?! Do I look like a mere servant here? Are you a fool or what?!"She didn't look the part for sure.Serenity gave an apologetic smile. "It was my mistake. As a human, I was taught that all jobs are the same and shouldn't be looked down upon. Werewolves have a different system going around, it seems.""Obviously, I am superior to these mere servants. I am the vice-commander of the pack. It should be an honor of a measly human like you to meet me." Janice snorted arrogantly.Serenity didn't want to deal with h
His eyes took in each of her smallest moves and changes in expression. Her breathing shortened as she raised her hand to touch her neck lightly. She pulled her lip into a thin line before resuming her original smile."Well, humans need a variety of experiences in their life to make it colorful. And you saved me. It almost made my heart flutter," Serenity commented. She thought that she was becoming a professional at pleasing her boss."You are lucky that the pack needs a doctor or else I would have been the first one to get rid of you," Kieran threatened.Serenity nodded. One thing Serenity had been really good at from a young age was observing people and knowing their emotions. Although the Alpha was good at managing his emotions, she could still make a faint idea of how his character was.Earlier, he had gotten really mad at that woman for hurting her and let her hide behind him. Even his voice that sounded so cold and rough earlier softened slightly now.He must not be completely l
After running a few tests on the boy with all the equipment present, she gave him some fever reducers, and a couple other medicines. She knew that it was important to run a blood test to get a more accurate idea of his state, but the infirmary wasn't in a proper state for her to do so."Take these for a week. And keep a close eye on his condition. Bring him to me immediately if his state worsens. The infirmary needs to be set up before conducting other tests," Serenity explained.Kate nodded."Thank you, doctor," she expressed.Serenity extended her hand to pat the boy's head and commented, "Take care of yourself. And be sure to rest well and eat well."The boy obediently nodded his head.Following that, Kate left the infirmary with her son. Seeing how it was quite late, she didn't expect to get any more patient and was about to leave when she heard the knocks on the door. She turned her head to find Richard standing there. He stepped into the room and asked, "Are you done for the day
Once they have reached the restaurant, Serenity stepped out of the car and entered the place. Walking over to the counter, she voiced out, “Hello.”“Yes. How may I help you?” she inquired in a calm, professional tone.“My boyfriend left his phone here earlier. I received a call asking me to come and collect it,” Serenity explained. The woman nodded thoughtfully before glancing at a nearby waiter. “He will lead you to where it is,” she said, gesturing toward the man.Serenity murmured thanks and followed after the man. The man led her to the staircase that head towards the main floor of the restaurant. The lights were turned off. The dim surroundings made her pause, her brows furrowing in confusion. “Excuse me,” she began her voice tentative as she turned to address the waiter, but to her surprise, he was gone. Serenity turned around to search for him. That is when the soft golden lights were turned on, casting a warm glow, and soft violin music played in the background, creating a mag
For these two days, Serenity noticed that Kieran have been distracted by his phone. It was odd to find him being on his phone all the time, seeming to chat with someone, and occasionally, he made calls. And every time she tried to question him on what it was, he seemed to be avoiding answering her directly. This made her wonder whether or not he had gotten into any kind of trouble. However, no matter how she tried to probe, she could not get a clue on what was happening.Tonight, they were supposed to watch a movie together. However, Serenity was sure that Kieran had no clue what the plot was about since he was so enamored by the device in his hand.“Isn’t this scene so depressing?” Serenity questioned. In her hand was a bowl of popcorn, and there was a frown on her face.Kieran slightly raised his head to look at her and said, “Huh, yeah,” before going back to his phone. This completely set Serenity off. She slammed the bowl on the table, making loud noise, and she glared at the Alph
Serenity was inherently a lazy person to begin with. Because she was afraid of missing Kieran and being worried about everyone, she kept herself occupied with work for so long. Now that everything had come to a peace, the long hours of working as a doctor was a little too taxing for her soul.Serenity leaned against the couch and groaned. “Should I just quiet and go back with you to your pack? Anyways, you can afford to raise me,” Serenity suggested.Kieran, who was working on his laptop, did not look up and responded, “Were you not determined to stay here and develop your career like an independent woman? I support you. Don’t worry.”Serenity furrowed her brows. “I change my mind. Am I not allowed to do that? Working like these every day for long hours, I don’t even feel like living anymore. This is killing all my passion.”Amusement crossed through Kieran’s eyes as he turned his head to look at her after her dramatic words. “Is it that bad?”Serenity nodded her head.“I get you, Ser
Almost two weeks had passed since Kieran came here. Throughout this entire time, Serenity and Kieran had small fights with Serenity starting those most of the time and Kieran simply tolerating her temper. Other than that, they have been peaceful.Since Kieran was here now, fine and healthy, and everything was alright between them, Jane thought that she shouldn’t be overstaying her welcome. As she would only be getting in between the couple, she decided to return.Serenity felt guilty at that since her friend had come here for her sake, and she was not able to do anything. Jane only laughed at her emotions, calling her a fool and telling her that the best thing would be for her and Kieran to peacefully settle. The two of them had gone through a lot of things. That was what Serenity hoped for as well.As Serenity finished taking her shower at night, she smiled at Kieran who was busy in the kitchen. Never did she think that she would be able to domesticate such a mighty Alpha. A recent h
There was confusion in the Alpha’s eyes as he stared at his mate.“Serenity that… isn’t it too abrupt?”Serenity stared at him startled and scoffed. “What are you feeling shy for? You had no issue roaming topless in front of the entire pack before.”“Well, you are right.”As she watched him slowly take off his shirt, it felt as though she was harassing him, and spoke out, “Alpha, I only want to check up on your injuries. I heard from my brother that you are gravely hurt. That is it.”Hearing that, Kieran was about to put his shirt back. He said, “There is no need for you to do that? I am almost fine.”However, not giving him the chance to do that, she pulled away his shirt. Seeing how his upper body was covered with thick bandages, she could only imagine how bad his wounds might have been. There was a thick scar that ran across his shoulder that was yet to heal. Knowing how as the Alpha he had great healing powers, for these to take so much time, she could picture the life and death s
Serenity frowned when she noticed tha she received a call from an unknown number after midnight, but remembering how she told Kieran to have her brother call her, she received the call.“Serenity, you are still awake,” Richard softly said. His voice held a bit of guilt and fear in them.Serenity sneered. “Look who is alive. I hought you were dead by now given the silence from you.”“It is not that I have not been wanting to call you. It is just that I have been so busy every day that I keep putting it off. Look, now that the Alpha is no longer in the pack, all the responsibilities of the pack have fallen on my shoulder. I know you are my sensible little sister and understand my position, right?” Richard tried to get her to calm down. This only infuriated Serenity further. “Oh? Is that so? If you are crammed with so much important tasks, why did you have to call me now? Let me hang up. After all, I do not fall in those important categories, and therefore, I have no right to waste your
The lack of sleep caught up to Serenity, and she found herself dozing off during the work entire time today. Not even cups of bitter coffee could keep her awake and drive her headache away. When the day was over, Amelia, the nurse who proposed she went on a date yesterday with her nephew, caught up to Serenity and garbbed her arm. Although Serenity wanted nothing more than to go home and rest on her bed, she smiled and carrued on the conversation with Amelia.“By the way, are you hungry? Why don’t we go and grab a meal together?”Serenity replied, “I had little something to eat earlier. I am not hungry yet.”“I am sure you will feel hungry on the way there.”Serenity was about to turn her down when her eyes fell on Kieran who walked over to her. It seemed that he came to pick her up. He didn’t know when her shift today ends. Could it be that he was waiting for her the entire time? What a fool!He could have just asked her for the time.“And also my cousin will be there. You wouldn’t m
But Serenity was doomed to have a sleepless night. No matter how hard she tried, her thoughts were filled with Kieran, how he was standing outside, and what will happen in the future. Before she knew it, it was already time floor her to get to work. Instead of taking a day off, she decided to get to work, believing that would at least keep her thoughts occupied or else laying down on her bed, she will be consistently pestered by Kieran mentally.Last night, she resisted the urge to get to the balcony to check whether or not the man was standing outside multiple times, and after an arduous fights with her inner self, she managed to prevent herself from taking a glance.Looking at her state in front of the mirror, Serenity knew that she looked extra bad. One would think she went through a night of horror.Staring at the foundation in her hand, she commented, “This is what makeup is for.”There was no way she was letting anyone know how restless she was last night. After Serenity was don
Staring at the familiar an in front of her, Serenity felt baffled. Jane noticed the tension between both of them and decided to give them space by getting up to Serenity’s apartment.Serenity quickly brought her emotions in control and put on a mask of nonchalance to match the Alpha’s. She took a second to observe his features. He cleaned up his wild hair considerably, taking a neat appearance, but instead of that making him seem gentler, he somehow appeared to be equally oppressive.“What are you doing here, Alpha? What a surprise!” Serenity expressed. Sarcasm evident in her voice.“I am here for you, Serenity. Are you going to accept me?” Kieran stated. Instead of it being a pleading request, there was a domineering pressure behind his words. The corner of Serenity’s eyes curved up, and there was a twinkle in those hazel eyes. “I am afraid you are a little late. I already went on a date with someone today, and we hit it off rely well. I don’t think it would be right of me to accept
