Caterina
There’re flames everywhere, and I hear the distinct sounds of bones being mangled and crushed between a powerful set of jaws.
Screams, blended with the smell of blood, fear, and death, had me feeling dizzy. I walk towards the sound of a woman screaming, but suddenly I hear her heart stop beating and froze in place.
Where the hell am I?
I glance around the room, feeling nostalgic, but it is when my eyes land on the chandelier that I realise where I am: Volkov Mansion.
This must be a dream, because the mansion is in immaculate condition with no traces of a past fire having broken out. Swallowing hard, I wander further inside to where the stink of death is more palpable.
Why am I dreaming this, though? Is it supposed to be an omen of some sort?
Another scream pierced the air, and then I could hear whimpering. Naturally, my curious, foolish self runs towards the sound, but what I see shakes me to my core;
Caterina /“You have much to learn, little wolf, and my gift will help you see.”/ This is what the woman in the woods said before she touched me. Was this her gift, to be able to see into the past or the future? I look at Kai’s troubled expression, and I am filled with remorse at the words I just spoke. As the horror gives way to disbelief, I sink to the floor with my head in my hands. “I don’t want this…” I whisper to myself, but feel Kai inching closer to me…. Reaching out to me. “Caterina-” “No! Don’t touch me! I don’t want to see it again!” I cry out, fear gripping my heart. I don’t know if a simple touch triggers it, all I know is that I do NOT want to go back to whatever it is that I saw! Kai grimaces at my reaction, which is understandable because even I don’t know what is happening right now. He holds out his hand for me to take. Then gestures to the bed. “I’m not sure what’s going on ri
Kai She knows about my past now. It’s only a matter of time before she resolves to leave and reject me. I thought this would stay buried until I was ready to confess my sin to her, but it looks like the Goddess had other things in store for us. I peer up at the woman who I keep disappointing at every turn, but instead of finding a look of disgust on her face, there was compassion. “So this is what Viktor meant about you needing to tell me what happened instead of him.” She says and moves closer to me, taking care to not touch me with her hand, even though I could tell that she was dying to. “You don’t need to tell me what happened right now. I can see you’re still struggling with it. But please realize that even if you do tell me, I will still be here, okay? You’re my mate and I will stand by you no matter what hides in your past.” She says with that beautiful smile of hers that gets my heart pumping every time. “Besides, if t
Caterina Why are they staring at me like that? Did I say something wrong? “What?” I ask, taking a step back, but Kai grabs my wrist and pulls me towards the floor-length mirror in my walk-in. “What’s going on…” I trail off as I catch my reflection in the mirror, realising that my once silver Beta eyes were now shining gold. Moving closer to the mirror, I observe the different colours of my eyes, but as I do, something occurs to me. I look up at Kai. “This eye colour… it’s the same as the woman I met in the woods. Her eyes glistened gold,” I say, remembering how calm I felt when I looked at her. Kai breathes out a sigh and pinches the bridge of his nose. “I have no fucking idea what this could mean,” he says, clearly exasperated by what was happening to me. I wish I knew what the woman in the woods has planned for me, and if she was the Goddess, why choose me for this? I suppose I could wonder until I was blue i
Caterina Wait a minute; my goddess was the fated mate of Kai’s werewolf god? I wasn’t even aware that she was a consort instead of having a consort of her own. Blinking in surprise at his words, Kai chuckles and gestures for me to sit and continue my breakfast. “I would have thought your pack cared about their history as all werewolves do, but it seems that I was sorely mistaken. Your father has run that pack into the ground, and it is a pity too since my grandfather used to have an understanding with the Alpha of the third generation of Sable Hides.” He says, downing the last bit of his coffee. I frown at this. “Is that why my father approached you in the hall?” I ask as I think back to when Kai appeared at the reception, and he nods. “He has been trying to reestablish the old agreement, but after what happened last time, I will not reconsider. You being my mate is the only link I will ever have with the Sable Hide Pack, but
Caterina After Kai says this, he gets up and walks towards Konstantin, who had just entered the building. They converse for a while; then I see him look over at me and nod to Kai before walking away again. Could it be true? Did I see something that has not happened yet? I try to remember the faces of the women in my vision, but it all comes together in a blur, and the images overlap in my head. I hope the Goddess knew what she was doing when she gave me this gift. If it was indeed the Goddess, that is. Kai appears again and holds out his hand for me to take. “Let’s go to my office. Kon has a few ideas.” He says. I take his hand and follow him out, feeling a bit useless that this gift, or whatever it was, was so sporadic and basically unreliable. I thought that when I touched someone’s face, that I could see what they were keeping hidden, but my vision just now has proved me wrong. Now, I might see things about
Kai Caterina gets bolder by the day, and her little stunt earlier just pushed me over the edge. Now, as she stands in front of me feigning innocence, it makes me want to show her exactly the type of person her mate is. “I don’t like repeating myself, Caterina,” I warn, trailing the blunt side of the knife in the valley between her breasts. What I truly wanted to do was tear the entire fucking dress off, but that would have to wait. I don’t want to give her that satisfaction just yet. Her eyes widen at the feel of the knife on her skin, and then I turn it around in my hand. I press the sharp tip against her skin, drawing blood. “Kai, wait… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” she trails off and gasps when I lean down to lick her blood. I then look up at her, flashing my crimson eyes and grinning. “You’re sorry? I didn’t ask for an apology, little wolf; I asked what your punishment should be.” I say, leaning forward, bringing m
Caterina The last time I came to Volkov Estate with Viktor, I learned so much about him and this family. Actually, if it weren’t for Viktor, I would never have found the journals or known how to defend myself. Now we would lay him to rest, the person who grew to mean so much to me. As we drive down that hidden winding road, I look over at Kai. His expression was stern, and his mouth was thin; I’m not sure what this could indicate, but I know that he is struggling with everything. Yes, I lost a good friend, but Kai lost his younger brother, someone he swore to protect. No one can know what he must be going through right now; Konstantin and the rest might, but not the way Kai must be feeling. The guilt will eat him alive. I reach over and place my hand over Kai’s, and he turns his head to look at me. Knowing my words wouldn’t reach him right now, I gave him a small smile - one he tried to return. He faces the road again,
Caterina “We have never seen this before, and I have had a bad feeling ever since one of our old prophecies came to be: ‘When the moment comes that prey kills predator, the foreign one shall bring forth a union of fated hybrid mates and an age of anarchy.’ This was the death of our Viktor. The rest I was uncertain of until I laid my eyes on your mate and received another prophecy.” She says, then looks at me. I felt a chill in her stare, not coldness or hatred at all, but I had a feeling she knew what would come next. “I don’t understand your prophecy,” Kai says, shaking his head. “Who is the foreign one?” Kaede laughs quietly. “I am surprised that that is what you ask and not who the fated hybrid mates are or what the other prophecy was. You know already, don’t you, Kai?” She says, then walks up to me and places a hand on my forehead. “She has already received gifts, and a shard of Tiarin’s soul is implanted in hers. You know
