Chapter 31

Lia:

“Who the fuck do you think you are to treat your mother in such a way? Is that how I raised you to be?” Ezra and I were stopped as we were walking toward the door by his father who was now raging with anger.

“Hello to you too, father.” Ezra said, turning around to face him. The man’s eyes were wide in anger, and I could tell that it was taking Ezra all his patience to make sure that he was controlling himself in front of his dad. The fact that he just came to attack him the way that he did seemed more painful to me than I could admit out loud. The man didn’t even bother asking his son what happened and just came to assume that Ezra was the one mistaken.

“Do not say a simple hello as if it were nothing. You are sending your mother to an exile? Because of your ‘wife’?” He looked at me as if I were some pest, and forcing myself to stay quiet and calm, I crossed my arms over my chest as I allowed Ezra to take charge of this. Interfering was going to get me nowhere, and the last thin
