Diego:
“When you called for me to come here, the last thing that I expected was for you to have me witness a man’s death,” I stated, crossing my arms over my chest as my father left the infirmary room where the woman, my mate, slept. She was the secret that I kept from Renata. I didn’t reject her, but I knew not to show that I was mated to an omega. It wasn’t a scandal that I wanted to deal with.
But I had to admit, the last thing that I expected was that I was going to see the woman’s father dying right before our eyes. I didn’t even know the reason behind his death, but I knew for fact that it was my father who had a hand in it.
“I doubt that I was going to be explaining my motives to you, would I?” He asked, and I scoffed. I knew that he wouldn’t, his hate for me was one that would blind him from even looking at me as a son.
“Why did he die? And I do believe that you are going to have a reason to give to the woman considering that she is still here.” I said, raising an eyebrow at him. He did not like being confronted, I knew that for fact, but was thirty, no longer that kid that feared his anger.
“Her father stole and hid something from me, and it seems to me that your exile made you grow smarter.” He said, looking me up and down. I scoffed, and he rolled his eyes. “You are going to be getting it for me,”
“And that is?” I asked, and he pulled his phone out of his pocket, showing me the picture of the wolf crest that symbolizes our family. It is said that the eyes contained more power than anything in the world and would glow when the rightful, chosen owner touched it.
“Why would he be dumb enough to steal something like this from you?” I asked, frowning in confusion. “As far as I know, you are the only man who can control it, why would he be betraying you, an omega to an Alpha of another pack? Don’t get me wrong, but him standing in front of you should be a blessing itself.”
“That is something that I did not understand either, I figured that I would get an answer or two out of him. Instead, he tried killing me, I had merely touched his chest as I stopped him. The man’s heart stopped then and now, and I have to admit, I did think that we could end up making a deal.” He said, and I nodded, knowing that he was trying to play with words. The last person to try making a deal with a man who betrayed him was my father, but I didn’t feel like pressing on the topic any longer than necessary.
“And you need what?” I asked, nodding at the infirmary door, “with her?”
“Her father stole it, and though I am the rightful owner, he had claimed it as his own. His daughter is his only heir…”
“It belongs to her, doesn’t it?” I asked, and he looked away from me for a second. My chest ached, and the air tightened in the room as I knew that something that should belong to me now belonged to a woman, my mate, who was of the lowest rank within packs. And that was something that bothered even more than I could voice out.
“You are going to be playing her until she gives it back.” He said, making me frown in confusion. “I believe that you can use your ways…”
“Wait, wait, wait, what did you just say?” I asked, stopping him. He raised an amused eyebrow at me, and I shook my head in question. “Did you just ask ME, a man who has a woman in his life, to play her?”
“Yes,” he said, and I let out a low growl. “You are to play her and then after I’ve gotten the crest, the pack is yours. As for your ‘woman’; I doubt that she would mind considering the fact that she would be getting the power that she is patient enough to be with you for.”
“You are alive, me getting the crest or not wouldn’t make me an Alpha. Plus, if she is the rightful owner after her father’s death, I am curious to know how you are going to claim the ownership back from her?” I said, glaring at the man who smirked. He wasn’t the Capo dei Capi for no reason, and I didn’t have to wait for his response to know what he planned on doing to her.
“You do what I told you to do, and leave the rest to me. The pack is yours and all the power that I hold too, all you have to do is follow my instructions.” He said, walking toward the hall. “I will be waiting for the result, and I trust that you will be a failure in this too, would you?”
Lea:I gasped as I woke up, remembering what happened as I looked around the room that I was in.The lights were dimmed out, but being a wolf, I could see as clear as day. But I couldn’t help but find myself choking on my own breath as I tried disbelieving what happened a while earlier. “Dad?” I called, sitting up on the bed before a headache blinded me. I didn’t even know or understand what happened, but the fact that he had fallen in front of me was all that I could remember. And I knew very well that when we came to this pack, nothing was wrong with him, if anything, he seemed to be more or less happy that things were ‘finally going to fall in place’.“Easy, Lea,” The heir Alpha said, pushing me back on bed. I frowned as I opened my eyes to look at him. And my heart raced against the heart monitor at the touch of his hand on my skin. I didn’t even understand how he didn’t feel the mating bond, but I knew not to ask any questions about it. The last thing that I needed was a rejecti
Diego:I watched as the woman was dragged out of the house by her Alpha, knowing that the man was not going to be merciful on her. I could tell by the look in his eyes that it was going to be the exact contrary. And the fact that I knew my father needed her only confused me as to why he had allowed him to take her with him.I knew that he would have had his ways of persuasion, but then again, I doubted that he wanted to use them right now.“You are just going to let her leave with him?” I asked, looking at my father. He scoffed, and I frowned in confusion at his behavior. I didn’t even understand what he was talking about right now, but I knew one thing, if I was to get what I wanted before I got my revenge, then I was going to have to be patient. “You need to learn how to stop questioning me when I do something.” He said, glaring at me. I shook my head in question, waiting for an explanation, which I knew he would have me fussing over before he gave it. But to my surprise, he simply
Lea:“Move,” Alpha Stefano said, pushing me out of the car. I had to fight back crying in pain as I fell on my knees. The Alpha’s blonde hair was already messed up from how much he ran his fingers through it, and his brown eyes held a kind of rage that would have scared anyone who would have dared look at him in the first place. “Alpha, please…”“Did you really fucking expect me not to find out about your treasons?” He asked, glaring daggers at me. I knew that he was stopping me from completing anything that I was saying because he didn’t want me defending myself. It seemed to me that things were far deeper than I ever knew. “I did not betray…” he kicked me in the stomach, stopping me from completing my sentence. The rest of the pack joined to look at the two of us, and I couldn’t help but find myself being in shame at that. I didn’t even do anything but go with my father. He often told me that we were invited, but he never did give me a reason, and I knew better than to ask. “Yo
Diego:A heavy feeling filled my chest as I walked toward the pack where my mate was supposed to be.I watched as the Alpha and his pack members trained, and though I knew that she was here, her scent filled my nostrils; she was nowhere to be seen. Alpha Stefano raised an eyebrow at my scent, and turning to face me, he nodded at his beta before he walked toward me. I wasn’t keen about being here, but I knew that if I was going to be getting the crest, then I was going to have to play this game in a smart way.“I have to admit, I am surprised to find you here,” he said, looking me in the eye. Nevertheless, he extended a hand for me to shake, one that I looked at for a second before extending mine in return.“Your omega’s father stole something from us, and I came to claim it back.” I said, and he raised an amused eyebrow. He waited for a second too long before bursting out in laughter, one that annoyed me more than anything, especially since I knew that the man was mocking me.“You ca
Lea:I cleaned the toilet as the Alpha had instructed. I knew better than to do otherwise. The punishments that he gave told me that he was enjoying making me suffer, and after a week of dealing with them, I grew tired of fighting. Today was the first time that he hadn’t forced me to go out and look at my father’s head, and though I didn’t know why, I didn’t even bother asking. He barged into the bathroom, taking me off guard before grabbing a fistful of my hair, pulling it back. I cried out in pain as I dropped the mop that I was holding on the ground. And he growled. “I was informed that your father stole from the Medici.” He said, his voice dark with anger. I tried wrapping my hand around his wrist, wanting him to loosen his grip, but he merely tightened it. He let out another low growl.“I do not know of such a thing,” I said, struggling with the pain, and he scoffed.“What do you know anyway?” He said, mocking me. The man pushed me hard, and I was forced to hold onto the sink’s
Diego:“No luck?” Giovanni asked, and I shook my head. I tapped the table in front of me three times as I tried thinking straight. The two of us were at a bar, sitting in front of the window as we got ourselves a few drinks. I needed to think straight, and I knew that going home now was not going to be an option.“The fucker said that he burned all the man’s belongings. If Cosimo was right about the man stealing the pendant, there is a high chance that it was burned in that fire too.” I said, and he took a deep breath. “Wherever that fire was anyway,”“If it contained a certain power, shouldn’t it have a shield? I doubt that it would just ‘burn’ and get destroyed.” He said, and I shook my head. I didn’t even know what was true right now, but I knew that things were going to be messed up. “The crest wasn’t made yesterday. It is an ancient one, and if it managed to survive through all the years that came, the renaissance, and…”“I know, and that is why I want to find a way to find that
Lea:I woke up on a white bed, my eyes widening in surprise as I gasped as I tried processing where I was.My heart raced against my ribcage, and I frowned at the pain that I felt as my sore muscles reminded me of where I was.“Easy,” a doctor said, her voice softening. I looked down at my body, frowning when I saw that I was barely wearing shorts and what looked like a sports bra. I knew for fact that I didn’t come here with them. “We had to change the dress as it was smudged with blood, and considering the wounds, we preferred not to cover them for them to gradually heal. But that meant not putting a dress on,”“Where am I?” I asked, frowning in confusion. I sat up, fighting back the pain that I felt, before she handed me a small jewelry box. I frowned in confusion and opened it to find the bracelet, my father’s, and my mother’s necklace inside. “We had to take them off when we changed and cleaned your body. No one has touched or seen anything except for me and the two nurses that
Diego:“She is awake, Alpha.” Paola said, and I nodded as I looked up from the paper that I was reading.“Did you give her the dress?” I asked, and she nodded.“Yes,” she said, and I nodded. “She was told that it is of a pack member and she allowed her to borrow it. She is yet to see her closet though, but I figure that it is not going to be long considering that I told her that the room was now hers.”“As long as she is here, I am going to manage speaking to her my way. You have done your part well, thank you.” I said, and she nodded. I knew that things were going to be a little more complicated now that she was here, at least, with me earning her trust. “She didn’t have anything with her when she came? Aside from the dress?”“An old silver necklace, it was mostly broken and overused. A little dirty too and needs to be shined, and a bracelet.” She said, and I nodded. “Did you give them back to her?” I asked, not wanting her to think that we would be stealing her things. The last thi
Third person point of view: “You are not going to call him to your side, Diego.” Luna Claudia snapped at her son, knowing that he was going to call the one man that she did not want him working with. The one person who she saw as a threat to him since he was born. The main reason why she believed that her eldest died. “He is an acquaintance, mama. The two of us share the same cause, and you know that very well.” Diego said, looking at his mother whose eyes were wide at her son’s statement. She shook her head, refusing to hear her son out, not wanting to listen to what he was going to tell her. Lea, his wife, who was sitting pregnant with their first child, put her hand on her stomach, knowing that this was going to grow intense. They were going to have to convince the Luna who she knew wouldn’t listen. She couldn’t blame her. When she heard who this acquaintance was, even she was surprised that her husband was willing to work with him. “That acquaintance of yours is your threat, D
Lea: Flashback: “Will you marry me, Lea Auditore…?” Diego asked, looking me in the eye. His eyes were filled with love, and though I didn’t even know how to respond at that moment, too perplexed, compelled, and surprised to find a proper response, I couldn’t help the tears that fell from my eyes at the sight. I took a step back for a second before he spoke, knowing that he took me off guard. “I know that I came out as sudden as I did, and I know that this was the last thing that you would have expected after the short period of time the two of us spent together. But Lea Auditore, I have never been so sure about anything else.” He said, keeping his eyes on mine as he spoke. “I realized when we were in Rome that I was never going to be able to live my life without you. That I knew that I would be incomplete without you by my side, and that is something that I knew to value. It cost a lot, and I know that the two of us were broken in many ways that would crush a person’s soul. But I k
Diego: I smiled as I saw my beauty looking at me, walking down the aisle with her brother holding her hand in his. The smile that was on her face was one that I knew wouldn’t leave my thoughts, and the way she walked, confidently, was something that I couldn’t but admire. I knew that it was her brother’s presence by her side, and I knew to value the man more by the day for what he was doing right now. Their eyes met for a moment, and I could swear that my mate’s smile was going to rip her face. The happiness that I saw in her eyes was one that made my world stop. For once in my life, something felt whole. Everything in my world felt whole. Flashback: “I want the two of you to know that this is not a game that you are playing,” Mario said, looking Lea and I in the eye. The two of us were in their pack as Lea chose to want to speak to the man. She wanted to be the one to tell him about the engagement, and though he was already aware that I wanted to propose, I was thankful and ha
Ezra: “What are you doing here?” I asked, shaking my head at Renata who was staring into space. His eyes met mine, she sighed, shaking her head. “I am going to watch the man that I love marry the woman, an omega who came to the pack, and ruined everything for me. What do you expect me to do aside from watch?” Renata asked, looking down at her feet. Her eyes welled up with tears and the woman shook her head as she wiped them. Her heart raced, and I could see that she was doing her best to hide how she was feeling. “Did you ever put in consideration that maybe you and Diego were not meant to be? I mean, not as meant to be as you believed that you were?” I asked, and she scoffed, shaking her head. “Up until the woman entered his life, the two of us were never having trouble. Even when we were, we always managed to solve them. Yes, I understand, I made a mistake, I cheated on him.” She said, and I stayed quiet, allowing her to let out what she was feeling. I had no right to judge her
Lea:Diego wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to his chest as the two of us walked around the pack grounds. It was a while into the afternoon, and the sun was setting. It being winter, the sun was setting a little earlier than usual. I didn’t mind though, I loved it when winter came. It was one of my favorite seasons. “What are you thinking of, neonata?” Diego asked, catching my attention. I smiled and shook my head in response. I wasn’t thinking of anything, actually, I was embracing the moments of us being together, happy, content, and proud. At least, I knew that something came out right after everything that we’ve been through.“There is a lot going on in my mind, but I am guessing that the main thing right now is me being with you.” I said, and he smiled, shaking his head at my vague answer. In truth, I had nothing in particular that I was thinking about. There was my father, who I still tried to understand until today. How he had worked with the devil himself? How di
Diego: I had to admit, it was hard to enter the pack without Giovanni by my side. The pack was already aware of him passing away, but I still found it difficult to face them when they looked at us, clearly hoping for the news to be false. I wished that it was. “Diego,” Renata said, approaching us. She looked at me with tears in her eyes, and I shook my head before wrapping my arms around her, pulling her in for a hug. Lea didn’t say a word, nor did she react, if anything, she purred in response, assuring me that she understood the pain that the woman was in. We all grew up together, Renata, Giovanni, and I. When we left the pack, it was done together, but now… “How?” She asked, pulling away, shaking her head in question. “How did it happen?” I held my breath. I didn’t even want to think of what happened. The man was doing his part to ensure that the area was well guarded, that she would come alone only to end up being a victim. A victim, my beta, who died to keep me safe. And to m
Lea: “Welcome home,” Diego said, smiling at me as the plane landed. I smiled and took his hand in mine, gently squeezing it, knowing that he still needed my assurance as his mate after what he’s been through. I didn’t know how he felt, how he truly felt, after losing Giovanni and coming home without him. The smile on his face told me that he was okay, but I wasn’t blind; I knew him well to know that fire was eating him from the inside as he knew that he wouldn’t see his best friend by his side in his home again. His room was to be a reminder, the pack grounds were too, but I knew that this was a life circle. We lived, we grew, we passed away. Some died children, others as young adults, and only a few got to make it to living a long life. It just depended on how we lived our lives. This was what was going to make the difference, and that was something that I knew my mate understood after losing his beta. “It feels good to be back.” I said, looking out the window as the door opened
Diego: “What did you and Ezra talk about?” Lea asked, laying on my chest as we sat in our bedroom. I chuckled and shook my head at my mate’s curiosity. It was one that I loved, and I couldn’t help but smile as I leaned in to connect my lips with her temple. “You’re not going to tell me, are you?” “Sometimes, there are conversations that my woman is not aware of. You know, we spoke as two men, and I chose to speak to him about a few things just as he gave me his opinion about others.” I said, and she pouted but nodded. I ran my finger over his shoulder, gently massaging it before looking out the window where we could see most of the city. “You know, I am going to miss this place. Regardless of what we’ve been through, but it is the place that had me knowing you. A part of me would be left here as well,” I had to force myself to keep my eyes away from my mate as I was referring to my best friend. I didn’t know how I was going to go home without him. I never imagined being away from hi
Ezra: “Are you sure that you’re okay, Ezra?” Lea asked, and I took a deep breath. I wasn’t okay, but I knew that there was nothing that I could do about it. The woman, my mate, was an enemy. I didn’t understand why I was chosen for this, but I was sure that there was a reason. “Would it make a difference if I said no, Lea?” I asked my sister. She looked down at her feet, avoiding my eyes. The two of us were close to the hotel, but I didn’t have it in myself to go inside the room. And Lea was being kind enough to stay with me, supporting me with what she could. “At least I would know what you are thinking, brother. I don’t know you enough, and you know that very well. I cannot blame you for that, but I am trying to understand you.” She said, and my eyes softened. I took her hands in mine and gently kissed her knuckles. She was a reminder of my mother. When I was a child, mom would speak to me the way that she was right now. “I am tired, and I am angry. But I know that I don’t have
