Chapter 30

April ran to the slave quarters, her vision blurred by tears. She collapsed onto her tiny bed, the familiar weight of despair settling over her. Sobs wracked her body as she thought of all the injustices she had endured. If only Lucifer hadn't treated her so poorly, if only her aunt hadn't sold her to this wretched place, she wouldn't be suffering so much. Through her tears, she uttered yet another curse against the woman who had betrayed her, making it the 200th curse she had laid upon her aunt.

Her crying was interrupted when Bluey and Pistol entered the room, their expressions softening with concern. Bluey, a petite girl with a fierce spirit, immediately sat down next to April and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Pistol, a tall and imposing figure, stood nearby, her anger simmering just below the surface.

"April," Bluey said gently, "we saw what happened. Isabella is out of control. You didn’t deserve that."
