Silver:
The two men kept discussing and soon, I found myself lolling to sleep. I wondered how that was possible, as my hands were tied uncomfortably and my body still ached from being whipped. The fact that they still left me kneeling and wouldn't let me sit up or even lie down was very annoying. I grunted each time I woke up, ignoring the constant irritated looks the alpha gave me each time I made that sound. It was freezing, I wanted nothing more than to go home and lie down for three days straight. Now I knew werewolves were real, I wouldn't need to be hypnotized any further to believe.“Will you stop making that stupid noise?” the alpha barked at me, unable to take my grunting any longer.I rolled my eyes and grunted even more loudly. I had never been this uncomfortable in my entire life.“I'm in so much pain, and it's freezing in here. I’m practically naked and my skin tingles with each wave of air. I'm sorry the only way I know how to express my discomfort is by grunting, since no one in here fucking cares about me. If you plan to kill me, just get it over with already!” I snarled in return. My throat hurt from speaking up so loudly and my voice had begun to crack, but it felt good to express my anger somehow.“How dare you speak to your alpha king that way,” Gwyddion retorted, diminishing all respect and admiration I had for him in the past.“He is no king of mine!” I screamed with all the anger in me and fell to the floor. It had been hours since my last meal, and after all the activities of the day, I was tired and famished.I expected the alpha himself to beat me up or be pushed to anger and send me to be killed immediately, but he didn't. I hated this. Being under the control of these pompous men. Having them decide my fate.“Release her,” the king said in a low voice, which was very uncharacteristic of him.I remained silent as Gwyddion untied me, his old wrinkled fingers fiddled with the rope which finally came undone after almost five minutes of him undoing them. I stretched my hands happily, free at last.“You may be sit,” the alpha said, pointing toward one of the very comfortable-looking seats the councilmen had just left. I sat down very carefully, looking suspiciously at him. Why was he being nice all of a sudden? Something told me this was all a trap. The door came open and I looked up to see the guard come in. I knew it!With nowhere left to run, I shielded myself with my hands and pushed myself further into the seat, even though I knew I wasn’t protecting anything. The familiar sting from the whip didn’t come. I cautiously looked up, slightly covering the sides of my face with my shaky just in case he planned to whip me if I looked. The guard was looking down at me with a confused expression, stretching a blanket toward me. I furrowed my brows, several questions popping up in my head. How had he known I needed a blanket? I turned to the Alpha and shot him the same look.“Are you cold or not?” he asked like he was wondering why I was reluctant to accept his help, but from the amused look in his eye, I knew he knew exactly what he was doing.‘Thanks,” I said and hastily wrapped the thick blanket around my body, reveling in its welcoming warmth. The guard bowed and left.“Now, may I have some peace?” he asked and I nodded. What he had provided me was the barest minimum, but considering the circumstances, I was so grateful to him.His eyes lingered on me for a second longer than necessary, and though I was all about holding all the men’s gazes to show them I wasn’t easily intimidated, but there was something about that fire in his eyes that made me feel very self-conscious. I had heard werewolves did something with the mind but I wasn’t sure what. They could communicate through a mind link and I realized that was how Alpha Damon had asked the guard to bring me a blanket, but I wasn’t so sure if that was all. Could they also read minds? I hoped not. I averted my eyes.“It’s getting late, Gwyddion,” he said, stretching his limbs. “As much as I’d love to stay and chat all night about this human girl’s random appearance in my kingdom, tomorrow is hunting day and I don’t want to be a sleepy leader tomorrow.”Gwyddion nodded, agreeing with him. “You are right. I shall try to connect with the moon goddess again and see what she wants us to do with her. But it is up to you to decide what to do with her in the meantime, your highness, as long as it does not involve death.”They were just talking about me like I wasn’t there. I wasn’t going to dwell on it though. I was happy they would soon discharge me and finally let me have a good night’s rest. Tomorrow I’d be a different person and have the strength to solve my problems, but for now, I needed a decent meal and some rest, if he was willing to provide it."She'll sleep in front of the courtyard," the Alpha said and my eyes popped open."But my lord, the wild wolves prowl at night. There's no telling what they could do to a defenseless girl..." Gwyddion said, with worry in his voice. I looked up hopefully at the Alpha, hoping he would listen to the druid. He didn't."I've been generous enough and I have exhausted all the kindness I can give to a human. Since the Moon goddess is so insistent on her, she should preserve her. If not, then RIP in advance," he said and left with his staff in his hand. The urge to get up and beg him to change his mind was strong but I held myself back. The last time I had begged him for something more desperate, my life, it had only infuriated him. Now, I was too proud and also too scared to ask him anything.I followed the druid out to the front of the courtyard and wrapped myself in the blanket."I apologize, Silver," he said. "The Alpha has a terrible history with humans. It's nothing personal.""I understand," I said. There was nothing else either of us could do anyway."If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.""I'd like some food please.""Okay. But I'll have to be very careful about it. If you're asked, don't say it was me."I smiled weakly."Hey Gwyddion. Am I allowed to call you that?" he nodded. "Do humans ever wander in here?" I asked and he nodded again."What happens to them?""The same thing that would have happened to you," he said, turning away."Why do we hate each other so much?" I asked. I wasn't so sure what would happen if a werewolf was found in our clan, but I had a feeling it would be something similar. "What started the war?"He sat down beside me and I forgot about my hunger, grateful for company on this cold lonely night."The war between humans and weres started so long ago, a particular cause cannot be blamed. Maybe it was because of the difference in species. Living things are always wary of things that aren't exactly like them.""Then what stopped it? I never even knew you guys existed. I thought it was all made up and I can't believe how wrong I was."He looked at me, and I was forced to stare into his greyish-white eyes that almost looked blind. Everything about him was mystical."It's not something we are proud of, but with all your gadgets and unique weapons, you humans won us most of the time. They finished pack after pack and even carried captives. It was so bad that we began to dwindle and to stay alive, we dissolved all packs and formed one mighty pack, this kingdom. The Alpha's father was the strongest of all alphas, so naturally he became the Alpha king. Twenty years ago, a very ambitious werewolf hunter from your clan decided to infiltrate alone. No one knows who tipped him off, but he probably knew how connected an Alpha is to his Luna. He entered our land and assaulted and killed our Luna in front of Damon, and the Alpha slowly descended into insanity. Damon was only eight at the time, so all our forces were disbanded and instead of trying to win the war, all the former Alphas of their packs began to tussle over who should take over. The king has fought for and maintained his position ever since he was eight. That is why he is so ruthless."I nodded as I absorbed what he was saying. It was never taught this way back at my school."They always say my father sacrificed his life to end the war. My father..."My eyes popped open as I put my palm on my lips to keep from saying more, but from the look on Gwyddion's face, he already knew."They are right. Your father was the one who killed Alpha Damon's mother. That was how he ended the war. If he knew who you truly are, he wouldn't have listened to me. He would have had your head on a stake."I swallowed as I realized how much trouble I was in. My father had been no hero. He had only hunted and killed a woman and even assaulted her right in front of her eight-year-old child. None of this felt right. Why did I have to wander in here? If Damon ever found out, which he would, he would torture me beyond measure and even target my family. I wished I had remained back in my land and let myself be hypnotized rather than being here and hearing this news. I couldn't believe this petty legacy was what they expected me to carry on."Let me try and get that meal I promised," Gwyddion said, getting up and rubbing my head. "Remember, none of this is your fault and I only know this because the moon goddess revealed it to me. No one else knows so you have nothing to worry about."He left and returned with a plate of food I gobbled down immediately. I couldn't speak, couldn't even thank him for the food because of how I felt. I gave him back the plate after I was done and he collected it."What will happen to me tomorrow?" I asked, finding my voice when I remembered what was at stake here."I do not actually know. The wolves go hunting tomorrow. I don't know what the alpha will do with you.""I thought you knew everything. Won't your moon goddess reveal it to you?" I asked desperately. He smiled weakly."I don't know everything. She only reveals whatever she wishes to reveal to me. This one is not one of them.""Thanks for the food," I muttered, realizing I was all on my own."Always remember, there is a reason why you are here. I may not know it yet but I will fight till the end to keep you alive until I figure it out.""Am I really the Alpha's mate?" I asked, wondering if he had only said that to save my life."Yes, you are. He also felt it himself and that was why he listened to me.""I thought werewolves can only be mated with other werewolves.""You're right. This has never happened before. Werewolves only mate with werewolves or hybrids. I suppose your case is special," he said, deep in thought. "I must leave you now as it will only make things unsafe for both of us. I will try to protect you as much as I can, but the moon goddess is on your side and she will offer you more protection than I ever can. Be careful."With that, he left, leaving me all alone to face the night.I didn't think I would even be able to sleep out here, not with the hidden threats lurking everywhere, but about an hour after thinking about the dire situation I was in, I began to nod off to sleep. I had terrible dreams of being chased down by rabid werewolves and I woke up in a cold sweat. Someone tapped me and I screamed and tried to run, but they grabbed me before I could escape.I hoped whoever it was would go easy on me because I knew no one would come to my rescue."Relax," a sweet female voice spoke to me. "The Alpha King sent me to you. Follow me."I followed her into a room that was dark on all sides. I heard women chatting but I could not tell what else was going on."He asked me to give you this," she said, handing over a plate of sweet-smelling food to me.As I gobbled it down, I wondered what prize I would have to pay this time for his kindness.Silver:“Wake up,” someone said after roughly pushing me. I woke up and tried to adjust my eyes to the brightness, but it only blinded me. “Who the fuck is she?” someone else asked. I heard a lot of loud and muffled murmurings, which made me know there were a lot of people in the room, mostly female. I hated my poor vision. Everything looked blurry and I had to struggle to keep my eyes open to see anything. When my eyes finally adjusted to the brightness, I saw a very beautiful girl who was peering down at me with curious blue eyes. There was something about her face that seemed ethereal.“She must be the newest addition to the harem,” she said right in my face. Harem? As in a harem where several women were kept for men’s pleasure? I couldn’t think of anything more degrading than that. I knew Alpha Damon’s kindness would come with a prize, but not this prize. “But no new girl comes in at night. And the matron always introduces her first,” another girl said. When I looked well, I s
Silver: “Any girl who steps into this place automatically becomes a harem girl. We don't ask what crimes they committed, so we don't segregate,” the matron argued, giving the younger woman who had brought me in, a wary look. I squinted in confusion, wondering what crimes had to do with being in a harem. If this was some sort of substitute for prison, then it was way worse than I thought. However, I couldn't imagine any of the beautiful, innocent-looking girls committing crimes that would sentence them to a lifetime of pleasing men. “I know, but she didn't commit any crime that warrants being here,” the younger woman said. The matron tapped her walking stick on the floor in an almost noiseless motion, but I took it as a way she used to prevent her anger from showing. “Then why did he ask you to bring her here then? If she was so important to him, why didn't he just give her a room in his quarters?” The woman shrugged. “I have no idea. No one questions the Alpha. He asked specifi
Silver: The paths looked very unfamiliar as I was led by the guards like a prisoner to the king. I hung my head low to avoid the questioning glares from bystanders who were wondering why a girl was being led during the day by guards, dressed like a prostitute. They probably assumed I was a felon, being led to her death. I felt very self-conscious of my semi-naked state. The clothes I had been given at the harem were clothes fit for a prostitute, which I had never bothered with since I was surrounded by girls who were dressed in the same manner. But outside, under the scrutiny of people of all ages and sexes, I felt exposed. The guards walked quickly, not bothering to check if I could keep up or not. My footwear was so flimsy, I could feel the hard ground underneath my feet as I struggled to keep up. We reached the court, but the men kept walking past it. I wondered where we were going if not the court, but I didn't dare ask. No words were exchanged between us, just a walk that se
Silver: “However, it won't be today,” he said, relaxing back on his couch. “You always seem to find me when I'm in a good mood. Perhaps you have luck on your side.” I breathed a sigh of relief because beyond my outward appearance which showed a lack of fear, I still felt a bit unsettled by him. I was sure he could feel what I felt, that strong excitement that built up in me when I was close to him. Maybe that was why he hadn't punished me like I suspected he wanted. "Besides, if you only obey because I force you to, you'll never take my powers seriously. Maybe instead of trying to convince you, I'll just show you and let you see for yourself. When you see the extent, you'll respect me yourself." I fought the urge to roll my eyes. This dude was too pompous for his own good. I suppose that was what came with being the Alpha king of such a huge kingdom so early. “You must be wondering why I summoned you,” he said. I waited patiently for his response but it didn't come. What did he
Damon:I had less than an hour to my meeting with my council members, where we would discuss the pressing matters of the counties of the kingdom. Each council member was a former alpha of his pack which was now a county ruler of one county in the kingdom a meeting of utmost i, A step further into the grand occasion of finally defeating the humans for good. It was what I had spent half of my life planning with my people, a project to which my subjects held me in high regard, yet I couldn’t stop thinking of a particular human girl. What was it about her that made me unable to carry out any threats on her? If anyone else, including the councilmen, ever spoke to me half the way she did, I would have them killed or imprisoned. What was it about her that made me keep repeating my threats over and over again, even though I knew she didn’t take them seriously? “My lord,” I heard a whimpering voice vaguely by my side before I realized the person was talking to me. “What?” I asked, slightly r
Silver: "You don't know what mess you've gotten yourself into. You think you can just make me look bad in front of the king?" the matron barked. "I have had girls killed for far less. I'm sure his majesty will understand." I gulped when she said this because something told me this was not an empty threat. I had seen the things this woman put the girls through, the very insensitive way she brushed off the girls who had been physically and emotionally hurt by the patrons they had been forced to please for the night and the heartless way she berated and punished the girls whose patrons reported them to not have been as good as they wanted. Her daily announcements were almost very degrading. She reminded the girls they were there because of the crimes they had committed, so they deserved everything they were getting. It was quite sad to imagine that someone who may have been framed for a crime they did not commit would have to face being in a harem like this. I walked backward as the
Silver: I ignored the wanna-be queen bee and sat at the only empty spot in the reception. I felt so stupid, having to wait for the people who would use me like a product. There was nothing funny about this situation. Every other person looked somber, and I knew that deep down within Mila’s heart, she was also sad to be here but just kept taunting me to make herself feel better. I sat down on one side, careful not to put pressure on my lower half. After hurting the guard who brought me here, I had stolen his pocket knife and I had it with me just in case things went south. “Too bad the Alpha can’t save you now, Silver,” she continued, showing me she was desperate to get on my bad side. Maybe she was just bored. Being in the harem would mess up anyone’s psyche. “Can you just shut the fuck up? We’re both going to suffer the same fate so I don’t get why you’re talking like your burden is going to be lighter.” I stated dismissively, showing her I was in no mood to deal with her shit.
Silver: We all paused in the room as the man's painful cry tore through our ears. It was a very unbearable sound, like the whimper of a dying animal. The noise stopped for a few moments but the chill it left remained. Godon seemed to be awakened from his trance when the noise stopped. He turned back to us with a scowl on his face. “Get on with it, will you?” “But the noise. We have to be sure the man is okay. It's part of the rules,” I lied, shifting away from the rabid Drex who was not acting the least bit perturbed by the noise.“Drex, now!” he barked as if he couldn't wait any longer. At once, Drex turned fully into the biggest and most repulsive werewolf I had ever seen. The repugnant sight of his salivating mouth, his dirty-looking paws, and the speed and precision he used to jump on me made me temporarily freeze that I couldn't react and pull the knife from the back of my skirt where I dropped it. The door opened from the outside and I fell backward, right before the snarli
Silver’s POV Five Years later: “To our fifth year of harmony!” Bottles clinked and deep voices rang out in cheers as everyone joined in the merriment. The feast was bigger than any other preceding it, and each row and column was filled with human and wolf alike, drinking and laughing, talking and dancing as the joys of merriment engulfed them. It was such a beautiful sight. This was something that had never been done in millennia, but had somehow been achieved during our time. It was a feast we held to celebrate the day the war had officially ended, and even though it was the fifth year, it still felt unreal and made me feel jittery whenever I looked at the sincere faces of everyone having fun. Sometimes it felt like the entire beef between human and wolf never even happened. That felt like such a long time ago, like a dream whose parts I couldn’t clearly remember anymore. The dream could have never become a reality if not for the gods’ interference, that was for sure. Th
Silver: “I can’t. My sister is here,” I said, turning to show him my sister, but of course he couldn’t see her in the pitch blackness. “I’m with Lord Tyrel,” Damon said. “He’ll keep an eye on her. This is really important.” “Hello, Luna,” a deep voice which I assumed must be Tyrel’s spoke. I stepped back defensively. “I’m not leaving my sister with any of your Lords after what I’ve been through,” I snarled. I didn’t care that this lord Tyrel could hear me. There was no way I would let her near any of the men who had gladly sought my death. Damon sighed and held my hand again. I wanted to slap his hand away, but it was warm and relaxing , a contrast from anything I had witnessed all night. “The reason why Rogu was able to get so many people on his side was because he used magic. Some of my men were infected, but now the black magic is gone, I promise you.” I laughed drily. “You really expect me to believe that?” “It’s the truth. That’s how he was able to get the
Silver: I stood in awe as the bright apparition came closer. I had told Tiffanie all about the goddess of time, but like other things I had said, she didn’t believe me then. She stood there frozen with her mouth open as the apparition drew closer. I waited, surprised by the fact that I was greatly excited to meet Oge even though I had borne a huge resentment for her abandoning us after so long. The wolf’s loud and scary howls turned into soft scared purs as it ran away when the goddess approached. Once again, I had been saved from certain death from her timely intervention. As the figure kept approaching however, I slowly began to realize it looked more familiar than usual. It was a woman alright, but not Oge. “Mom?” My sister called out uncertainly. My lips could not form words. Right there in front of me was my mother who had been torn to shreds in front of me a day before, standing in front of me with no marks on her face and looking like a smiling angel. “Silver,
Silver: The noise coming from outside was enough to scare anyone to death. It was evident the human soldiers had finally rallied together and mobilized their weapons and men to fight for them. I was in the room Xavier had ordered his men to place me and I crouched by a corner holding my sister who was even more scared than I was. “Should we go out?” Tiffanie asked with a trembling voice. “We need a better place to hide…” She couldn’t complete the rest of her sentence because a loud crash sounded above us. Never in my life had I heard anything as terrifying as the things I heard that day, not even the day Rogu had planted grenades around Alpha Damon’s palace. “It’s too dangerous to go out there,” I screamed over the loud explosions. “This is the best place we can be at this point.” More explosions occurred, which made Tiffanie and me shudder at each sound. I wasn’t sure I could ever remain normal even if I somehow survived this. After watching my mother get murdered right i
Alpha Damon: “All these years. It was you!” I barked at Rogu who had been tied up at my command. To say I was furious would be a huge understatement. I felt the pain all over again, but this time it wasn’t just the pain of losing my mother, it was the pain of losing my senses, the love of my life and years of happiness I would have had, all because I allowed Rogu to play with my head. I didn’t have to wait for a response from him. I knew Silver’s mother was right. From the look on Rogu’s face as I manhandled him, to the emotions I could feel through him, I knew he was guilty. All those years when I was just an eight year old boy on a walk with his mother and witnessing her murder right in front of me, it had been Rogu all along. He had killed her by mistake because he meant to kill Silver’s mother, a fellow wolf. I had assumed Silver’s father was the murderer simply because he had tried to help me resuscitate her, and because I had been told humans were nothing but trouble and
Silver: It took a while for me to realize that the voice screaming was mine. I watched in horror as my mother’s body was carted away from the room by the other two wolves, while the one who had done the biggest damage stayed back to watch me. Tiffanie was on the floor, rolling and crying. I didn’t know what to do. My mother no longer looked like my mother. She was gone. She was dead. Right after I finally got her back. I fell to the floor without noticing the wolf that was watching me with keen eyes. I wondered why he wouldn’t pounce on me already. It was as if all they wanted was my mother, but then what was the gain in killing her? It made no sense. They had been safe before I arrived. Was it my fault? Had I been the one to draw the rabid wolves here with my scent? I hated myself then. I blamed myself for everything. After everything I had been through to come back to my mother and to protect my family, she had been taken from me within a few split seconds. As I lay on the flo
Silver: “This is great news,” I squealed. For the first time since I discovered I was part werewolf, I was proud of it. It had saved my life and that of my sister after all. “How did it happen?” “When the wolves came, everywhere was a mess. Fortunately, our house is a little hidden so not many came here. Two came to carry us. They called us freaks and tried to kill mom and one started touching me inappropriately,” she said, rubbing her elbows and looking away as she recounted the unfavorable incident. My hands balled into fists. “Something just snapped within me and before I knew it I was on the floor like an animal, tearing into their flesh.” “I’m sorry you had to go through that,” I said, before flopping on the couch. I was extremely exhausted. “But I’m happy we can defend ourselves.” “Why do you look so bad?” She asked me, taking in my roughed up appearance and the blood all over my clothes. “I’m exhausted and…” I said, struggling to speak now that the adrenaline that
Silver:My chest constricted and I began to cough violently until I shifted back into my human self. I stood up immediately and went back to join the others, not willing to draw any attention to the fact that I had just killed a wolf. “Let’s go,” I choked out and fortunately, no one asked me any stupid questions, just followed me. I limped as I led the way, my entire body in pain. I had no idea where I was taking them, but as long as we were moving, I was fine. I wasn’t sure if there was any place that hadn’t yet been run down by the wolves already. “Marc,” someone called and I glanced around but didn’t see anyone. “Psst. Hey. Down here.” We all looked down at the same time and I jumped when I saw the faint outline of a body through a hole in the ground that could pass for a sewer. “Jimmy?” The man in our group who must have been named Marc called back. “What are you doing in the ground?” “Just wait, I’ll be right there,” Jimmy said, disappearing from our view. My head was poun
Silver: I heard the voices of so many people at once, even though they were trying to whisper. I knew some other people had walked in through the door, but I couldn't see them, so I couldn't deduce their number or whose side they were on. "They might not check here. They know this is a prison and they have no us for prisoners, at least not yet," I heard one say. "Shut the door!" the woman with a child cried out. "You'll make them find us!" "Don't reveal our hiding place," another prisoner said. "Go soemwhwere else before you haev us killed in your place." There was arguing among the prisoners and those who wanted to hide with us for a few minutes. I found it very stupid to engage in an argument at this point. It wasn't like the prisoners could come out of their cells and chase the new people away. "Everyone stop!" the man who always managed to have information barked and everywhere quieted down. "The more we argue, the more we increase our chances of being seen. We h
