The next morning, I woke with a he’s feeling of looking dread in the pit of my stomach.

I managed to do all I needed to do that morning, bathing Cole, dressing him up, making myself look presentable while trying all I could not to think about Aspen’s lips.

“Damn it!” Cole said, his eyes crinkled at the sides with laughter, it stopped me in my tracks and I turned to look at him.

“You barely remember what color is what but you remember that word?” I rolled my eyes at him, pulling the shirt down his face, only to meet the brightest of smiles. It was contagious.

I heard a soft, hesitant knock on the door and my whole body tensed up.

Another unwanted and uninvited visitor.

Who would it be this time?

Aspen’s sister perhaps?

I righted Cole's shirt and set him down on the ground to run smock like he obviously wanted to, then I walked up to the threshold and opened the door like I was ripping a band aid off.

Lily stood behind the door, an apologetic expression covered her fe

Stay. I wondered what it would be like if I cake to that decision. Stay in Aspen's pack? I shook my head, a feeling of both anticipation and dread washed over me as I approached the dining area, the laughter and bustling conversations became louder. Slowly, I got closer to Caterina and her so called announcement. I should’ve missed it, I shouldn’t have agreed yet, there I was, pushing open the door. Cole's squeal exposed what I thought would me my silent entry and from then on I noticed every stare, every glare. Everyone’s eyes turned to keep and as expected, the conversations died down. The quiet was almost suffocating. I’d already tried to understand the conversation I had eavesdropped on, trust me I tried. I was sure I heard Enzo’s voice, if he and Lily knew each other that would also mean that he’d lied to me about a lot of things. Or, set some of this up. I lifted my chin, squared my shoulders as I made my way to the table in false confidence. Under their s

Lily never came to the dining room, I had waited, even after Caterina and Esther had spout out every rude remark they wanted to. My mind was already made up but, first of all, I needed to know what was going on with Lily and Enzo. After I left the dining room, I’d intentionally lingered around the halls, taking every turn I saw hoping I would catch even a glimpse of Enzo or Lily and demand an explanation but I found none. I only came across a few pack members who had things to whisper about the second they noticed me. Cole walked by my side, oblivious to the stares which I was glad for. The boy has already been through so much, him knowing exactly what went through those people’s minds would only make things worse. I fished out my phone and dialed Enzo's number once I was sure that I wouldn’t find him anywhere I has access to in the pack house. The call only rang once before he picked up. “Hey baby girl,” “Is there a reason why you haven’t brought my things despite saying you know

“Andrea,” Aspen nodded at me and gestured me forward. I didn’t want to move but my feet did so on its own. Making my way towards him slowly like I was in a trance. It was almost like what I felt in the woods, that calling but this time, it felt like his eyes were magnetic. Did he feel it too? Was it just me? “Good afternoon Mr. Vincenzo,” I said, trying my best to sound as distant as possible. After that kiss, I had no clue how to face him. Yet here I was with the intention of getting closer to him. “Please, just call me Aspen…I’m not my father,” Aspen said, a hint of something in his eyes that I couldn’t understand, I nodded. That was a start. First name basis. “Is everything okay?” “Yes, why do you ask?” “You're frowning, and pale,” Aspen pointed out despite his eyes no longer being on me but rather Cole who still seemed lost in the flowers, not sparing Aspen a glance longer than three seconds. Cole was wary of his father, I could see it from the look in his eyes and I wasn

“Do I have to attend the pack breakfast every morning?” I asked Lily who sat at the far end of the bedroom with a blank expression. Two days after my conversation with Aspen, I’d barely caught a glimpse of him, but I’d finally run into Lily, who was obviously avoiding me. I wondered if Enzo had told her about our conversation, and if she was willing to give me more than just the nickel Enzo had given. I tried to start the conversation…but she wasn’t really responding, she just played with Cole and let him pull at her hair until he got bored. “Lily?”She blinked slightly and then looked up at me, “Aspen told aunt Caterina that the only duty you have is to Cole, and that she shouldn’t meddle,” she said, sounding like she was in awe. “He actually told her that!” there was a twinkle in her eyes as she added the last sentence. “How did you do it?”I brief feeling of shock passed through me, “He said that?”Did that count as defending me?He acted like he didn’t care yet he

That evening, a bag was sent to me. Filled with my clothes and a few toiletries from the apartment Enzo and I shared. He was here but he didn’t come to see me, maybe he couldn’t face me because he wasn’t ready to tell me the entire truth. Was it so bad that they were keeping it from me? I unloaded the luggage and arranged my clothes in the closet, lost in thought. It gave me a sense of finality, like I was finally accepting my fate and surrendering my freedom to Aspen. “I should at least have a say in what goes on in my life,” I muttered in a disgruntled tone to no one in particular. Once the clothes were arranged, walking back to the room I was met with an excited Cole. He ran into me and looked up at me with bright eyes. Goddess, I was thankful for the fact that I had a happy child, or else I wouldn’t be taking this situation as easy or calmly as I was. “What’s gotten you so excited,” I bemused, staring down at the bright eyed toddler. He raised his grubby fingers

ASPENEnzo Gonzalez. My gaze flitted over the file I had on Andrea, every single detail Ben and Lily could gather. I had ignored it the first time, I didn’t think it if any importance but now that I thought about it… “He's the son of the alpha of Luke's pack, isn’t he?” I heard Ben say from behind me. He was quiet, but not quiet enough to startle me despite that being his goal. I could smell him from behind my study door. “Isn’t he that guy who got in trouble for stuff with Lily back in high school?”I nodded grimly, still looking down at the man's picture. I never expected I would ever have to see him again since graduation yet, here we were, he was being dragged into my life. “He gave that prophecy, did he not? That strange bullshit about our pack falling if you don’t find an omega with an Alpha's strength and scent?” Ben snorted as he remembered more of the incident. Enzo had always been a peculiar kid in high school, no one had a clue when or why he was adopted by the Al

ANDREAThe intensity in Aspen's gaze as he declared his intention to spend that much time with Cole and I sent a shiver down my spine. There was an undercurrent to his words, a possessiveness I couldn't quite put my finger on. I hated how it affected me yet I loved how it had heard pool in my stomach. "I...well Enzo was around most of the day when Cole was first born," I replied carefully, trying to regain my composure and not say something stupid. "He helped me through a very difficult time." I said, staring down at my fingers, a faint smile on my lips. “The second my family found out I’d broken up with Luke and was pregnant, they decided they didn’t want me anymore so they kicked me out, Enzo was there for me through it all,”Aspen's jaw tightened imperceptibly at my words, and I got the distinct sense he didn't appreciate the idea of another man being that involved with me and his son. But maybe it was just me reading too many meaning into every action. Because my train of thou

The next morning, I was woken up from sleep by a soft knocking at the door. Blinking away the sleep from my eyes, I saw Lily poking her head in from the wooden door with an bright smile."Get up sleepy head! Training starts soon." Lily announced, looking more excited by the idea each passing second. She seemed to be very excited by the idea which made me wonder if I should be worried. I felt a pang of nervousness remembering her mention of self-defense lessons and assisting with the pack's warriors. As eager as I was to find constructive ways to spend my time here, the thought of immersing myself in that intensely physical, violent activity made me falter. I tried not to indulge in anything violent, especially anything that had to do with werewolves and violence. "Do I really have to get involved with all that combat stuff?" I asked hesitantly as I sat up on the bed with a groan. "I'm really not much of a fighter." I muttered drowsily. As much as I hated to admit it, I’d spent

ANDREA I woke up with a start. I jerked violently on the bed as I tried to gather my bearings. For a few moments, it reeked of that room, where Luke had kept me, it reeked of him and I could almost see his sinister blue eyes looking down at me, getting excited over the pain he inflicted. In a few seconds though, the haze cleared and I relaxed, realizing I was in my bedroom in the cabin. Safe. Right next to me was Cole. He was on the bed with me, his small fingers holding on to mine as he slept peacefully. I heaved a sigh of relief and my lips curled up as I watched my son sleep. Home. I gently pulled my fingers out if his grasp and caressed his hair gently as I watched his little chest rise and fall. We were safe. We were home. I looked around the room, feeling a it disappointed when I saw we were both alone. Aspen must be busy. I inhaled deeply once more, checking the state of my body. I seemed to be healing at a rather rapid pace but not fast enough, it stil

My beautiful, strong mate, so tough yet almost broken by the horrible cruelty we had barely rescued her from. From my spoiled nephew who my mother had raised to be greedy and raised to hate everything that I am. The memory alone of finding her in that hellish basement cell, battered and almost dead…it made my blood boil with rage. If Enzo hadn’t held me back and reminded me she was more important, I might have torn the twitching remains of Luke limb from limb with my bare hands. Luke. Just thinking his name ignited a fresh wave of hatred and disgust towards the misguided kid who was once family. To think he had also dared lay his twisted hands on my mate…the idea was unforgivable. And he will pay for it. For every scratch, every bruise. Andrea’s breathing became slow and even as my fingertips stroked her brow soo

Countless emotions rushed through me as my eyes took in the sight that was in front of me. The cozy cabin’s living room came into view. The scent of fresh-brewed coffee mingling with the scent of breakfast, it made my stomach churn as I had no appetite for anything. There, in the middle where the coffee table was, sat Enzo and Lily, both watching with indulged grins as Cole enthusiastically showed off his prowess at a children’s board game, sweeping aside the pieces with gleeful abandon. Not a single hair was out of place on my beautiful son’s curls, not a mark or blemish on his beaming little face beyond the rosy flush of his excitement. He was safe. Whole. The relief I felt was so great my knees almost gave way. “My baby,” I breathed out in a shaky whisper. At the sound of my voice, three pairs of eyes swiveled in the direction of the staircase, taking in the sight of Aspen holding my admittedly worse-for-wear form. Enzo was the first to rise, hands held out in a placating mann

Everything hurt despite me being at peace. I’d honestly thought I wouldn’t feel anything once I was dead. Why did I still feel? A feeling of grogginess overshadowed my thoughts and I became painfully aware of my whole body as I stirred and clawed my way out of unconsciousness. My whole body felt heavy and my chest felt constricted yet, I could tell I was somewhere safe. I was laying in a deliciously soft bed, the kind of plush comfort I’d missed dearly. The crisp scent of freshly washed linens intermingled with the woodsy, piney aroma that could only belong to one place, my cozy little cabin back at Aspen’s pack. Confusion flooded my senses. Wait…how did I end up here? My brain felt foggy until the memories came crashing back like a violent wave. Luke’s sadistic torment, the crushing certainty that I would never see my precious Cole or family again, the terrifying descent into blackness. But then, cutting through it all…Aspen’s intoxicating scent had washed over me. That earthy

Luke paused mid-swing, chest heaving with the exertion of his hits as his nostrils flared. "Your bastard? Don't fret, my most capable wolves are out watching him. But once he's been...properly raised under my guidance, you needn't concern yourself with the affairs of children any longer," Like said, sounding proud like he was doing me a favor. The images his words stirred in my mind caused me to cry out, a deep, anguish filled cry at the thought of my precious boy suffering at the hands of such a sadistic bastard. The sight of my tears seemed to invite him even more, his expression turned into one of animalistic excitement as he continued his assault, cursing repeatedly as he made each hit. My throat became clogged up with blood, my eyes almost swollen shut, my lungs burned and I couldn’t see anything I could not thinks or feel, all that remained was pain. Blood, my blood, painted the walls in thick runnels with each strike that landed. Still I remained stubbornly defiant in my

A throbbing pain pounded incessantly behind my eyes as consciousness grudgingly slipped through, my mind clearing and my body becoming aware of its state. My head lolled listlessly to the side, cheek grinding against the rough, unforgiving concrete beneath me, I could barely hold up my head. As my fuzzy vision gradually cleared, a new kind of pain blossomed in my chest, the sickening realization that I was chained and spread in what appeared to be some dank, long-forgotten basement cell. "Awake at last, are we my little alpha?" A deep, sneering voice like poisoned honey reached my ears.Luke's hulking form stepped into my rapidly clearing field of view, his lips twisted into a smug sneer of victory. Revulsion and hatred churned in the pit of my roiling stomach at the sight of the vicious gashes I'd managed to inflict on his cheek now scabbed over. An injury from an alpha would never close up, it gave me even greater satisfaction to see how easily he looked like what he was on the i

The heavy silence hung in the air like a suffocating blanket after Theo's passing. Tears streamed down Maria's face as she clutched her dead mate's limp hand, her body shaking with sobs. Viktor looked shell-shocked, staring blankly ahead, his usual stoic expression cracked by raw grief. I pulled Cole tighter against my chest, his small frame trembling from fear and the effort of his earlier wails. My own tears flowed freely as the devastating loss hit me in waves. Despite barely knowing him, Theo's dying words echoed through my mind, his belief in me, A profound sense of both peace responsibility settled on my shoulders. The doctor and Viktor lifted Theo's now cold body from the ground and lay him down on the bed and then the doctor covered Theo's body with a white sheet, his head bowed in somber silence. Just then, heavy foot steps sounded above us. We all tensed, braced for another attack in our fragile state. The door burst open and a large figure strode in, it was Luke, Theo's

The dining table soon turned rather chaotic as Theo's hacking only worsened by the second, his face turned blue and purple his lips became drained of colors they were as white as snow and everything was a symptom of poisoning. Damien held his father close while he shouted orders put to the maids to go get the pack doctors. I could hear just how fast my heart was beating, how the blood fished in my ears and made them ring. Through it all, Theo’s eyes somehow remained locked onto mine even as they started to glass over with sheer, anguished struggle. An eerie sense of acceptance seemed to emanate from their glassy depths, as if he knew…No. I shook my head. Before that unthinkable notion could fully take shape, a series of thunderous booms shook the foundations beneath our feet. Dishes clattered from the table as the heavy wooden chairs skittered across the stone floor, creating more chaos and confusion.I lost my balance and almost fell face first on the floor. “What the fuc

“Maria,” Theo’s low rumble brooked no argument from the corner where he loomed beside Damien and Viktor the two stony-faced brothers pointedly disincluding themselves from the impromptu family scene.I didn’t blame them, I tried my best to push their chilly attitudes to the back of my mind. If I can handle Aspen, I can definitely handle them. Laughing lightly, Maria rose and dusted off her apron with familiar fondness. “Yes, yes, you’re quite right. We’d best get dinner underway before someone’s stomach starts growling us all into submission,” she teased with an amused glint in her eyes. Beckoning me forward, she looped an arm through the crook of mine as if we were lifelong friend. “Come along, dear, and we’ll get you and the little one settled at the table.
