Ruth brings me a wheelchair. Of course this is under Alvar’s permission, agian. She helps me to the second floor and then I insist that she leaves me alone.

The large west side of the second floor seemed empty and quiet. Alvar is not here. His study is a private, open space, with a room next to it that has five tall shelves filled with the Gonzales' book collection.

What I told Alvar about wanting to go to school wasn’t a lie. I didn’t go to school growing up. Marta taught me some words, and I learned from TV shows. Just call me illiterate.

I long for an education. I once dreamed of escaping Greenvale to finish my degree in medicine. I want to be a doctor. Though I don’t have the healing power, I’d love to help others like my mother did.
