[Aera’s POV]
"Dammit!" I hiss, gently slapping Ayla’s cheek. "Wake the fuck up!"
"Aera?"
Turning, I watch as Silas and Lennox rush toward me, their faces filled with shock and confusion.
"What happened?" Silas demands, dropping down beside Ayla and scooping her into his arms. "Did you do this?"
"Me?" I hiss, rage rolling through me. "More like your own fucking daughter."
"Daughter?" Lennox repeats, her eyes growing wide. "Celia!"
My interest piques due to how she knows exactly who I’m speaking of. Just from that reaction alone, it is easy to see that this wasn’t a one time occurrence.
"Do the elders know about her?" I ask.
"Aera," Silas warns, shooting me a glare. "This is none of your concern, and it would do you well to keep what you’ve seen tonight to yourself."
Oh, so they were keeping this a secret from everyone. It seemed that the self-righteous Silas was also capable of breaking the rules of our world if it meant protecting his own. Too bad he was going to have a hard time keeping at it.
"It isn’t me you need to worry about," I point out, nodding toward the crowd that had begun to grow behind us. "You might want to worry about all of them."
Eyes growing wide, he turns and takes in the crowd, then curses under his breath.
"Don’t let this worry you for now," Lennox murmurs, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Getting Ayla help is our main priority."
"You’re right," Silas huffs, shooting me a look and then looking back toward the crowd. "Come with me."
"Me?" I ask, unable to think of why I would be needed. "Why should I?"
"Because you witnessed what happened and therefore will be of help if Brian has any questions," he responds simply.
For a moment, I debated whether or not I should go. This wasn’t my concern, and I needed to get home to take care of some business anyway. I hadn’t wanted to come to this damned party to begin with, but my father insisted I make an appearance to keep the peace between our packs, so here I was. Who knew that doing what he wanted would get me into such a mess of trouble?
‘If you didn’t think with your dick, you wouldn’t have gotten into it,’ Rayze chuckles, appearing out of nowhere. 'Should teach you.’
‘Not hardly,’ I respond. ‘I’ll continue to do as I please.’
‘Whore,’ he huffs in disgust.
‘Takes one to know one.’
"Aera," Silas calls, snapping me out of my head. "Come along."
"Fine," I sigh, shoving my hands into my pockets. "But once I’ve told you all, I know I’m leaving."
"That’s fine."
When we arrive at Crimson Tides’ infirmary, Silas’ medic, Brian, is already waiting for us. I remembered him from when Alphonze first got injured, as he had helped take care of him. When he sees me, he gives me a sympathetic look, knowing how that moment in time changed the entire course of my life.
"You’ve grown, kid," he announces. "How’s your brother?"
"The same," I respond. "And don’t call me kid."
At my words, Brian lets out a chuckle, but before he can say anything more, a growl escapes Silas, reminding him of the most important matter.
"What happened to her?" Brian asks, beginning to examine Ayla’s wound, which isn't trying to heal around the glass that remains in place.
"The boy can answer that better than me."
I guess this was my cue to speak, but I found myself too busy taking in Ayla’s prone form. Something about seeing her like that wasn’t sitting well and was making an odd emotion build up within me, leaving me feeling all sorts of uncomfortable.
"Kid," Silas repeats, drawing my attention to him. "Can you tell us what happened?"
Opening my mouth, I prepare to respond, but stop as Celi strolls into the infirmary with Lennox on her heels.
"It was me," she announces, her expression blank. "I lost control, and I..."
Before she can finish, Ayla’s expression shifts to one of agony, and her lips begin to move.
"Ayla?" Silas gasps, grabbing her hand and examining her. "Are you awake?"
"Barren."
Fury rolls through me at having to hear that damned name again. Who the hell was this bastard, and why would she be envisioning him when she was in such a touch-and-go state? What’s more, why the hell did it bother me so much anyway? This whole fucking evening just wasn’t making sense.
"Whose Barren?" Silas asks, furrowing his brow. "Does anyone know?"
"Does that really matter?" I snap. "Shouldn’t the main concern here be getting that fucking glass out of Ayla so she can heal?"
"It is," Brian agrees, his lips twitching into a frown. "But the issue here is removing it without damaging any of her organs."
"Won’t she heal either way?" I ask, confused as to why this was even an issue. "And as a medical professional, you should be able to do it."
"I’m not fully equipped here for surgery," he points out. "But since Ayla is a special case, she can’t go to a hospital."
"Brian," Silas hisses, as confusion rushes through me.
"Oh, sorry," Brian gasps, realization dawning on his face. "I didn’t…"
"Just shut up!"
Narrowing my gaze, I take in both men's expressions, which are slowly shifting from concern to straight-out worry as their eyes come to rest on me.
I don’t speak, as I’m sure they wait for me to question what it was that they meant by special case.
"You shoulder leave," Silas finally sighs, realizing he had made a mistake in making me come along with him. "We can handle the rest from here."
"And if I don’t want to leave?" I challenge, standing my ground. "It’s too late to try to shoo me away since I’ve clearly heard something I wasn’t supposed to."
As the words leave my lips, Silas shoots Brian a glare, but Brian ignores him and busies himself preparing to remove the glass from Ayla’s body. Once he is prepared, he inserts an IV and attaches a bag filled with blood, then flips Ayla over so that the largest piece can be seen protruding from her back.
"Aera, will you step outside with me?"
Celia’s voice is soft as she speaks, but it rings loud and clear to me.
Frowning, I turn and meet her gaze while wondering what exactly it was that she wanted to speak to me about. It couldn’t possibly be anything important.
"It’s about earlier," she explains, fixing her large hazel eyes on mine. "Will you please spare me a moment?"
Remaining silent, I look from Celia to Ayla and then back. Shrugging, I begin to move and motion for her to follow.
Once we are out in the hall and alone, I wait.
"Earlier, you heard…" Celia begins, her cheeks flushing red. "What I said I just wanted to say I didn’t mean anything by it."
Didn’t mean anything? She was so pissed off that she damn near killed Ayla. How could she even claim that it was nothing?
"Didn’t mean anything?" I repeat, raising my brow. "So you just go around unleashing that power and trying to kill people for a hobby?"
"Try to kill?" She gasps, her eyes growing wide. "I didn’t…"
"But you did," I counter, leaning in close to her ear. "You were so jealous that I paid attention to Ayla instead of you that you decided to try to get off her." As each word leaves my lips, I can feel Celia growing stiffer and stiffer, but I don’t give a damn. "But let’s not forget who put me up to it in the first place and who happened to push him along."
Letting a slow smile spread across my face, I watch as Celia’s expression shifts from shock to understanding and then to straight-out fear.
Good, this meant that she understood what I was saying.
"I don’t know exactly what you’re plotting in that fucking head of yours, but you aren’t any better than all those other women," I sigh, not bothering to spare her feelings. "You’ll do whatever it takes to get what you want, even if it means using your body. I don’t know what you were trying to achieve by having me sleep with your cousin, especially when you got so fucking angry about it, but next time you want to scheme, leave me out of it, got it?"
[Ayla's POV]I find myself sitting in a large room with fluffy white chairs and blood-red floors. Above the ceiling is painted to look like a pristine blue sky, and where the sun is placed, it shines brightly from a small circular window that allows the real sun's rays in."Where is this?" I murmur, continuing to take in my surroundings. "Wasn't I on the grounds of Crimson Tides?"Immediately, flashes of what had happened with Aera and Celia begin to flash across my mind, attempting to spur me into action but stopping as understanding of what is happening hits me."A dream," I murmur, realizing that I must have passed out after hitting the ground. "But whose exactly?"This clearly wasn't a space that my mind would come up with given how plush and high-class it was, but I couldn't exactly think of anyone in particular that I knew who would dream it up either. That was the thing when it came to dreamwalking. I could travel around in dreams of those I knew due to my connection with them,
[Ayla’s POV]I wait for Barren’s response to my rejection, but when a smile forms on his lips, I know that he isn’t taking it seriously."I should expect no less from you," he chuckles, giving me a look of adoration. "I’m well aware of your defense mechanism to avoid being hurt. For now, I’ll allow you to remain angry with me, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up.""You might as well," I sigh, my annoyance flaring ever so slightly. "No matter what you do, I won’t..."I don’t get to finish my sentence as dazzlingly bright light flashes in my eyes, causing me to reflexively shut them, and when they open once more, I’m staring up at a face I didn’t want to see even more than Barren’s."Morning," Aera chirps, smirking. "Glad that you could join us in the waking world.""What the hell?" I hiss, attempting to move but stopping as pain shoots through me. "Fuck, I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck.""Not quite," Aera offers. "But you did take a pretty nasty fall.""Fall?" I repeat,
[Aera’s POV]I get home to find that all the lights in the estate are off. Great! That meant that I wouldn’t have to deal with a bunch of questions from my father about how the party went. After leaving Crimson Tides, I took a detour to clear my mind. I didn’t know why, but having seen Ayla in such bad condition left me uneasy. It was the oddest fucking thing. The only reason I could think of as to why it did was because it reminded me of my brother. At least, that was what I would tell myself. With Alphonze heavy on my mind, I head straight upstairs toward his room, where he should currently be sleeping.Being sure to be quiet, I creep inside to find his eyes open and staring me down."Why are you up?" I ask, moving forward and plopping down beside him. "Usually you’re asleep by this time of night.""Crimson... Tides..." he manages around his oxygen mask. "How…""If you’re wondering how things were, they were fine," I assure him, feeling my irritation flare. My brother was in the con
[Ayla’s POV]Pain shoots through me when my feet hit the ground, but I remain upright. Letting out a puff from the exertion, I stare up at the window I just jumped from and send a silent apology for disobeying the doctor's orders.Looking down, I take in the pants and bra that I’m in. I guess they would have to do for now since I couldn’t risk going back in for some normal clothes.Feeling a sudden flare from the darkness, I turn and begin to move. I could only hope I arrived at my destination before it got too bad.Giving Jameson Estate one more look, I begin to move, breaking into a run while ignoring my injuries that scream at me to stop. With each slam of my foot on the ground beneath me, I feel the stitches on my stomach threatening to tear, but I don’t stop until I spot the small villa where she was located.Slowing down, I find the familiar storm drain that I usually use to pay my visits due to having to avoid being seen by the rest of her family due to my being of a different
[Ayla’s POV]I let myself relax some more as Marah’s familiar power began to wash over me. Although I could verbally give her a play-by-play, she preferred to see it firsthand, which meant that I in turn got to live the encounters again. It was almost like going back in time to repeat the same actions again.Closing my eyes, I see Aera’s naked form hovering over me as my arms reach up and wrap around his neck.Letting out a mewl of content, I dig my nails deep into his skin while wrapping my legs around his waist so that I could pull his erect dick closer to my entrance."Don’t be impatient, baby," he murmurs, beginning to pepper kisses along my jaw and down my neck. "I always return favors."As he speaks, he dips his head out of my grasp so that my hands collapse against my chest and begin to knead my breasts while Aera’s lips trail kisses down my stomach to my hips and then down to my already soaked slit.Letting out an excited growl, he throws my legs over each of his shoulders and
[Ayla's POV]For the next week, I stay locked up in the estate thanks to being found trying to sneak back in after my visit to Marah by Uncle Silas and Aunt Lennox. After a long lecture about caring more about my health and my body, I was put on strict surveillance to the point I couldn't even piss or shit without someone asking me what I was doing. It was frustrating, but there was no way that I was going to manage to convince them to let up my punishment, especially after what happened at the twins' birthday party.By the time my week was up, I was more than ready to escape, but even that wasn't possible due to my having to get back to training for my evaluation so I could graduate from the academy. That's why, on the morning of day seven of what I lovingly deemed solitary confinement, I donned a white shirt and a pair of yoga pants before heading out of my room and downstairs, where I was sure Isabella was waiting for me."Morning!" she chirps as she spots me. "I was beginning to w
[Aera's POV]A week passed after the incident within Crimson Tides, and despite trying by all means to get information on Ayla Jameson, Benny continued to come up empty-handed.Anytime he would come close to finding something, his trail would be obliterated. It was clear that someone was working behind the scenes to keep her secrets safe, and that just spurred me even more to uncover them. That was why I was now standing right in front of the woman in question, as she didn't bother hiding her suspicion of me.I was aware that Anchorage Academies seniors had to prepare for their graduation evaluation and decided to participate in their first round of training after a week's break. In the end, I decided that since I couldn't find anything by trying to dig, I would try another tactic, which would be to get close to her so she could reveal her secrets herself. Once I knew what Crimson Tides was hiding, I would reveal it to the world and destroy them just as they destroyed my brother."Bes
[Ayla’s POV]"Why haven’t you healed?"Aera’s voice pulls me back to reality, where everyone is standing around me, eyeing me as if I’m an enigma.Frowning, I try to make sense of their looks before I realize that I’m being cradled in Aera’s arms."If you see that your classmate is injured, why just stand around?" He demands, shooting them all glares. "Is this how you’ll act toward your comrades on the battlefield?""Leave them alone," I huff, knowing that if he keeps this up, I’m going to be the one who gets the backlash later. "And put me down."As I speak, I attempt to break free of Aera’s hold, but he only tightens his grip, sending waves of pain through me."Don’t move," he hisses, beginning to make his way toward the academy. "Why did you even think it would be a good idea to come to this practice when your injury isn’t healed?""Why is that any of your concern?" I shoot back. "I feel fine and therefore am able to practice just as I would even if I wasn’t injured."Missing any o
[Aera’s POV]9 months Late"Mmm, Aera, right there."Ayla’s voice echoes around me, spurring my movements even more. Knowing she was enjoying what I was doing to her was all the encouragement I needed."Ah!" she gasps, leaning more into the chair in front of her. "Not so hard."Chuckling, I lean forward and nip at her ear, earning myself a small whimper and a shiver of delight."Sorry, you’re just really tense," I chuckle, lightening my massage.Since the triplets were due any day now, the doctor suggested that I help Ayla relax however I could, and since she requested a massage, I was more than willing to oblige. This was the least that I could do, given what she was about to go through. I knew childbirth was hard with just one child, but I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like with three."Why’d you stop?"Cursing, I look down to find Ayla’s big green eyes staring up at me, but I barely register them as I take in her huge belly.Smiling, I let my hands slide down her shoulders
[Celia’s POV] I stare up into Alphonze’s dark, unreadable eyes while trying to figure out exactly what I was feeling. Was I just caught by surprise because he suddenly appeared, and that was why I suddenly felt jittery and my heart was racing? Right, that had to be it; there couldn’t be anything else. I was already horrible at social events due to being afraid of the judgmental eyes of others, especially when they compared me to my perfect twin sister. So to suddenly be alone with a man twice my age and handsome as hell, of course, I would feel weird. "S-sorry," I stammer, deciding that the only correct way to handle this was to run as quickly as I could. "I should…" "Wait," Alphonze hisses, holding up an arm as I attempt to sneak past him. "Just… wait a second." Frowning, I try to remain calm and not shove his arm away. As the heir of an alpha, I was strong, and my strength would easily be on par with Alphonze's, especially since he just regained his strength and power thanks to
[Alphonze’s POV]I stand to the side, watching as everyone present for the evening enjoys themselves, laughing, dancing, and being merry. It had been a while since I had attended something like this, so it was taking a bit to get used to it again. The last time I came to a full moon ball was when I found Gloria. It was the day my whole life changed for the better and then for the worst.Immediately, memories of that day began to come crashing into me, from the falling of autumn leaves to the sounds of crickets that chirped around us. I was only twenty-one then and forced to attend the ball, so I found somewhere to hide to avoid being bothered until it was time to leave.Back then, I hated social events and only wanted to focus on my alpha duties, as I had just taken over for my father. After having my heart ripped out of my chest by Hana, I didn’t want a damn thing to do with things like love and mates. That was another reason I didn’t want to be at this damned ball: I risked finding
[Aera's POV]Soft music drifts toward me as I stand to the side of the large ballroom, waiting for my date to arrive.Despite all the chaos that had been happening in our world, Silas and Alphonze insisted that we have a small, intimate gathering for the full moon as a way to relax and unwind after all the headache of cleaning up Barren's mess. That's why I was forced into an uncomfortable black tux with a purple vest beneath it and a white button-up beneath that and made to wait while Ayla was dolled up by Isabella and Celia."You look like someone killed your puppy," Alphonze chuckles, coming over to join me. "Try to loosen up, will ya?"As he speaks, I take him in while still thinking that this is some type of alternate universe.Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think that my brother would be returned to the man he was before his accident, but here he was, standing in front of me, dressed in a white button-down with the sleeves pulled up so his strong, lean muscles could
[Ayla's POV]The next day, I sit in the passenger seat of Aera's car, staring at Crimsone Tides Estate while fighting the urge to run away. When I entered that building, I'd be making the toughest decision of my life, and I wasn't exactly sure if I was ready.Beside me, Aera remains silent while holding my hand, so that soothing warmth radiates through me, but it doesn't do a thing to calm my nerves."We can go back," he offers, breaking the silence that has settled around us. "You don't have to do this so soon; you can...""No," I sigh, giving him a small smile. "This needs to be done. You didn't see him there. He's suffering, and despite making some ridiculous choices due to being tricked by my mother, he doesn't deserve to live like that."After much deliberation, I decided to grant my father's wish and put him out of his misery. To live your life trapped by the curse was no way to live, and as his daughter, I had an obligation to grant his request."Come on," I continue, gently pu
[Aera's POV]I watch as Ayla turns around so that her ass is almost in my face while she begins to undo my pants and free my dick. From my point of view, I can see everything from her perfectly shaved pussy to her glistening lips and her throbbing clit, which is just begging for me to please it.However, with my hands cuffed above my fucking head, I couldn't do anything but continue to stare while she slowly took me between her lips so she could begin attacking my tip with her tongue."Fuck," I hiss, lifting my hips so she would swallow more of me. "That feels so fucking good."Giggling, she continues her attack while beginning to slide her body across mine until her thighs rest on either side of my face.'Eat me,' she growls through mindlink while wrapping a hand around my shaft and the other around my balls so she could drive me even crazier. Not needing to be told twice, I dip my tongue between her folds and begin to glide it up and down her clit while using my teeth to nip at her
[Aera’s POV]I remain in place, staring down at Ayla, who is fast asleep, as her face twists into a look of pain. I can’t help but wonder what exactly it is that she is going through there in the dream plain, where I can’t protect her. Did she find her father, and the result wasn’t what she expected? I wouldn’t know until she awoke and told me.Feeling utterly useless, I turn my gaze to Vince and begin to take him in. When Ayla introduced us, I pretended to not know him, but I remembered the great alpha he once was. To see him like this was painful, but it was proof that even the mightiest could fall, and when they did, they fell hard."I’m sorry," I murmur, feeling somewhat responsible for his condition.Maybe if all of us realized the corruption that was going on back then, this wouldn’t have happened, but we were all blinded, and in the end, we only realized when things were too late."Mmm."I snap my gaze away from Vince to find Ayla beginning to stir. Her bright green eyes slowly
[Ayla's POV]I stand in front of Crimson Tides Estate while my stomach churns and my heart races. Even though this place had always been my home, I wasn't back here for something pleasant. After mine and Celia's discussion, I made the choice to come home and see the man that haunted my dreams and try to see if I could help him.Of course, I had to wait a few days so that Brian and Gwen could be sure that everything was alright, and when I was released, Aera came to fetch me after I explained to him what I wanted to do."Ready?" He asks now, after a moment too long of standing in place. "Or have you changed your mind?""I haven't," I respond, snapping my gaze to the window of my father's room. "This is something that needs to be done.""And what if he is a hopeless cause?" Aera continues to push. "What do you plan to do then?""I'll figure that out when the time comes," I sigh, beginning to move."Welcome back," Aunt Lennox beams when we enter the estate. "I'm so happy you're alright."
[Ayla’s POV]I sit alone in a bed, staring at the door in front of me, while the soft beeping of machines fills the silence around me. One had multiple little beeps as it was monitoring the baby's heartbeats, while the slow and steady one was my own. After dealing with the elders, I was rushed into the temple and taken to their medical wing so that Brian and Gwen could do a thorough examination on me and the babies to make sure that everything was fine after the ordeal I went through.Despite my protests, in the end I lost out and found myself bedbound.Sighing, I lean back and close my eyes, thinking maybe I could try to get some sleep, only to find that the noise makes it damn near impossible.Huffing, I snapped them open and turned my attention toward the small monitor that showed the babies heartbeats. I found myself taking comfort in the fact that their hearts beat strongly, as they should. It was the only reassurance I had right now, given the fact that Gwen had to go back to Cr
