The Human Is My Mate

“ Stop” 

Aedon froze, his heart nearly leaped out of his chest as soon as heard that. He turned to see Aria walking closer to them with her staff in her hands. She took angry strides toward him while Aedon couldn't help wondering why she was annoyed with him.

“ I need to speak with your king. Everyone dismisses” Aedon heard her say to his people. They all ran out of the throne room as they were scared of her. The werewolves have always been scared of the witches right from the beginning of time which was why Aedon was still amazed that the moon goddess had picked a witch to be her mouthpiece.

Milena and Bryan, we're about to leave the room too when Aria's voice stopped them on their track“ Stay! This meeting concerns you both” Aedon couldn't help wondering what she wanted to talk about that concerned both his sister and his beta.

Aedon watched Aria as she strolled down to where Alena was still tied onto the pole. He watched as she circled around Alena thrice before turning to stand in front of her.

“ Welcome to Arcadia, Alena Ramos. We have been waiting for you” Aedon shifted on his seat shocked as soon as he heard that. Who was waiting for her? Who was the girl? And he absolutely has not been waiting for her. But that name! Where has he heard it before, it does sound familiar to him, Aedon wondered in his mind as he battled within himself.

“ Arcadia” He heard Alena call out softly before she burst out into laughter. She laughed and laughed but stopped as soon as she saw the serious expression on each of their faces.

“ You don't mean that this is Arcadia. I mean the same Arcadia in my city” Alena questioned the lady in front of her shocked. She should have gotten used to it by now but no, she was still getting surprised at every new thing she uncovered here.

“ Yes, my lady. I'm afraid you are one thousand years back into time. And this Arcadia isn't related to yours, You are in Greek” The woman explained to her causing Alena to watch her with her mouth open.

“ Why are you telling her things about my kingdom, Aria. I was just about to behead her when you arrive” Aedon protested furiously, he didn't want a human to spend a second in his kingdom alive not to talk of knowing about his kingdom.

“ She needs to know. She has a huge role to play in making this kingdom a better place for us to dwell in” Aria answered without taking her eyes off the woman in front of her. She was thankful that she had gotten here in time, if not Aedon would have beheaded their savior. Finally, she could be free from her responsibilities to the moon goddess.

“ Why am I here? I want to go back to my family” Alena asked the woman with white hair in front of her. She still didn't know who the woman was.

“ You are here to save our kingdom, you are our savior” The woman replied with a smile on her face before turning to stare at the king.

“ Aedon, may I introduce her to you?” Aria asked him as he nodded and waved her on. Though he didn't need any further introduction, she was a human. That's all he needed to know.

“ Good. This is Alena Ramos and she is your mate” 

Time paused as Aedon stared at the woman which was still tied to the pole. He could remember her calling his name, begging him to take her in the dream. He gasped as he stood up and walked closer to her, begging the moon goddess that it shouldn't be true.

His eyes got the opening of her dress just between her shoulder and her neck. He pushed the dress back a little ignoring her cry of protest as his eyes took in the tiny mark on her neck. He let go of her and turned to look out of the mountain, lost in thoughts...

“ What is that? What does that mean?” Aedon came out of his thoughts to hear her asking him that. He turned to stare at both Milena and Bryan who were smiling excitedly. 

“ From today onwards, I king Aedon rejected you Alena Ramos from being my mate” Aedon voice thundered across the room to where Alena was still looking at him with a sad expression on her face.

Alena was confused. Why was she sad? Isn't that supposed to be a good thing? But Alena wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of making her sad“ The feeling is mutual, king Aedon. Even I wouldn't want to be mated to you, Mr. Stone Cold” 

Alena glared at him, she smiled as soon as she saw his eyes widen in shock. She guessed he didn't imagine that she would reject him back.

Alena turned to look at the woman who had saved her from Aedon. Even though she had called her their savior, to her she was her savior “ Please, I want to go back home. My dad and grandmother will be worried about me”

“ I'm sorry, you won't be able to go back home now. You refused to take a bath at the fountain, that was the only way you could have returned home Immediately” Aria explained to her. Alena couldn't help being scared. If only she had obliged to the temptation of the fountain, she would have been on her way home now away from this cold kingdom.

“ So, I'm stuck here forever?” Alena's voice was a  mere whisper when she spoke. She looked from the woman to Aedon who was now seated on his throne lost in thoughts.

“ No my dear, you are only stuck here for three months. Only then will you be able to return with the free pass”  Aria explained with a sad smile on her lips. She had wished that Aedon would accept her as his mate not to reject her immediately. This is bad! Aria mustered to herself.

“ Untie her” Aria commanded to both Milena and Bryan who had been quiet all this while merely observing them. They both rushed to untie Alena who leaned onto Milena as her feet were weak.

“ Take her away, to rest and regain her strength. I need to speak to your king alone” Aria told them as they nodded and helped Alena out of the throne room.

Aria turned to Aedon who was staring at Alena's retreating back“ Your majesty, I'll suggest you think about your decision again. I mean it's too soon to re______”

“ No, Aria. I'm very sure of my decision and it's final. She can stay here for three months until she returns but she won't be my mate” Aedon answered, cutting her off as he stood up to leave the room. He gathered his coat and made to brush past her...

“ I'm afraid you are forgetting something your majesty” Aria called out to him as Aedon turned to glare at her, his anger only a surface away from exploding.

“ And what could that be, Aria White?” Aedon growled at her. He was getting angry with her. How dare she question his decision? It was another thing battling with his wolf who wanted to hug his mate and sniff her scent and now she's trying to get him angry.

“ Your Uncle is planning to have his son take over as the king of all the magical forces. Are you going to allow that knowing how tyrant he could be? I'm sure your father wouldn't want that. You can get back to me when you've made a better decision” Aria told him and walked out of the room with her robe straying behind her.

Aedon sat back down on the throne in shock. He never knew his uncle wanted to give his throne to his son. That tyrant son of his! Aedon cursed under his breath.

He still didn't know why his father had asked his uncle to take his kingdom if he didn't find his mate when he was twenty-nine years old. In three months, he will be twenty-nine. What should he do? He surely can't accept that human as his mate. No, never.

Bryan came back to the room after he sensed that the sorcerer had left. He watched Aedon curiously. He still didn't understand how Aedon could have rejected his mate as soon as he found her?

“ You know there's still a chance of you retaining your throne” Bryan called out to Aedon who was still lost in thought.

“ I mean your mate is finally here and she's beautiful. What more could you ask for?” Bryan questioned him again when he saw that Aedon wasn't making any effort to talk to him.

“ Aedon, I think you should think about this again. We all think your mate was dead and now she's here with you alive” 

“ She is not my mate. She is a human! I distaste humans and you know that!!” Aedon screamed up at him. He was getting tired of everyone telling him to have a rethink. He knows what he was doing and his decision still stands. He won't be mated to a human.

“ Would you rather want her to be dead than a human? Aedon, I'm sure the moon goddess knows why she mated you to a human” 

Aedon paused. He sure wouldn't want his mate dead, he was excited when he found out that she was alive but a human?. No, he can never accept her as his mate. He will be failing his promise to his father. 

“ You can't understand Bryan, I can't accept her as my mate after everything her kind had done to my family” Aedon protested furiously as he struggled to shut out those memories of that cold morning.

“ But I_______”

“ Enough” Aedon shouted authoritatively, pointing a finger at Bryan to shut him off “ I'm not going back on my words. Not for you and definitely not for anyone else”  He made to brush past Bryan before marching out of the throne room in annoyance.

Aedon nodded to his guards who were at the foot of the stairs, they bowed as soon as they saw him coming. They were his best warriors. Aedon walks up the stairs and disappears down the corridor to his chamber. He paused as he was about to open the door, he strained his ear to make out the words that were coming out from his sister's room but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't hear anything.

Aedon scoffed and stepped into his room, he knew it was his sister blocking him from listening to them. Even though he was the alpha, there were limits to his powers as his sister shares half of them.

Aedon growled frustrated with himself, he 

could still hear laughter coming out from the room, Aedon couldn't have hated his werewolf sense of hearing as he did right now. He closed his eyes to rid himself of her laughter but the glare from his wolf caused him to open them immediately...

“ Are you satisfied now? Because of you, our mate is in the other room away from us?” Ricker pointed to him with a growl.

Aedon rolled his eyes at him but chose not to say anything as he stood gazing off at the mountains. There was no need to anger his wolf any further as he could tear down this whole building if he is in control. Aedon made a mental note to always be in control, he wouldn't want him to do things with that human that he couldn't do...

“ You need to be careful? She doesn't know who we are yet?” Aedon warned his wolf in his mind as he turned to get out of his regalia before going to settle on the bed willing, sleep to come to him.

His mind went back to how Alena has rejected him in front of his people. He vowed to make her begged for him to mate her
