When tears rolled down Iris cheeks and she pleaded her innocence, I refused to believe her, even though I was struggling with my emotions.

But it was all too well planned. Alexander was my enemy, and he wanted me dead. The feelings were mutual. It was not strange for his daughter to enter the beauty contest and then plot against me.

Despite knowing this, I was confused. Iris' claims of innocence contradicted my suspicions, and I couldn't pretend I didn't love her when she occupied my thoughts and dreams.

Her stunning eyes haunted me. Her gentle kiss burned me. I sincerely wanted to believe she was innocent. But I'd seen it before: beautiful, innocent-looking faces, with evil intentions.

I doubted every word she spoke. Her innocence was a trick to pull me deeper into her trap.

I headed to the entrance gate and gripped the polished iron bars.

"Be grateful that you have a comfortable room with freshly laundered sheets, healthy food and books to read,” I mocked her.
