Chapter 11 Mommy Hates My Looks

"Th—this is all just a misunderstanding…" After a while, Scarlett couldn’t help but begin to explain herself, but unfortunately, she didn’t know how to do so.

"It’s getting late." Dylan stood up from the couch, acting as if he didn’t see anything. "You both should get some rest. I’m leaving."

"Where are you going?" Weren’t they the ones who were supposed to leave?

"I specially prepared this place for you two." He picked up his coat, and he had his usual smile on his face. He continued speaking without waiting for Scarlett's reply: "There's no need to send me off. I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, and we’ll go see the Langston family."

"Take care."

Following Scarlett’s reply, Dylan slowly closed the door.

Hang on, why should she explain anything? There was nothing going on between them, so why did she need to explain herself? Wouldn’t it just make things worse?

"What are you thinking about, Mommy?" Lucas curiously looked over at her.

Scarlett looked back at her son. She'd been looking at this face for six years, and right now, she realized that he bore many similarities to Jonathan. He didn’t resemble her, his mother, who had raised him for six years, in the slightest. Lucas blinked a few times. To him, it seemed like Scarlett was gawking at him.

"Oh, my precious son. Why do you have to look like this?" Scarlett tightly pinched the little boy’s cheeks like a wicked stepmother.

"What did I do wrong? Why do you dislike my appearance now?" The little boy pouted as he protested.

"A lot of things, like how you didn’t help me today and how you even escaped without me. It's an unforgivable crime." She wasn’t just acting like a wicked stepmother now. She was also furious. "I’m going to punish you. You’re going to investigate all the cases I take on for the next month."

"Miss Langston!" Lucas couldn’t stand his unreasonable mother anymore. "Don’t make an issue out of this, and don’t come to me for mediocre cases. Hmph!" The little boy jumped off the couch and dashed to his bedroom on the second floor.

Scarlett looked at the little boy’s back, his words still echoing in her ears. More importantly, in her mind, the boy’s face gradually turned older, morphing into that of his father's.

"No, no, no…" Why did she suddenly think of Jonathan? Everything had been going so well before. She should just wash up and go to bed.

Scarlett didn’t sleep well the entire night. Her blurry memories from that incident six years ago resurfaced as clear as day, occupying her entire mind. And what occurred at Leonard Corporations today was something she'd never thought would happen when she returned to Catheden.

She'd never thought that she would see that man again. She'd even told her son early on that his father had already passed away. If Lucas discovered the truth, she would really have to handle those cases by herself.

In the president’s office at Leonard Corporations.

"I want to see Jonathan. I’m his girlfriend and his future wife. How dare you stop me?" Despite the secretary’s efforts to stop her, Monica still rushed into the president’s office.

"Hello, Miss Winters," Fredrick greeted Monica instinctively.

"Mr. Leonard, I’ll do as you've instructed right away." Fredrick left with his secretary without waiting for Jonathan to tell them to leave.

"What the hell is going on here, Jonathan?" Monica's anger was evident as she threw the magazine she was holding onto his desk. She knew that Jonathan doted on her and loved her. That's why she dared to act boldly.

"Who told you you could barge in here?" Jonathan yelled and banged his hand on the table, making Monica tremble with fright.
