Seline knocked on the door to her father’s study and was bade to enter. When she went in she was shocked. Her usually neat and well put together father was disheveled. His jacket was thrown over the chair, his waistcoat was unbuttoned, and his shirt was half unbuttoned. His usually neatly combed hair was almost standing straight up as if he had been trying to pull it out. He had a bottle of the bourbon that his friend Dr. Misner gave him for his birthday. “It seems there are a lot of people looking for him tonight.” The guard said. He pointed to a Row of tents and told Papa to follow it to the far end and he was in the 3rd tent from the end. After Papa left with Pastor Oliver and Seline’s sisters left with their new husbands, she was left alone with Will in the camp. It was now very dark. Many of the campfires had gone out and most of the men that had been keeping a nervous vigil had long since given in to trying to get some sleep before they moved out and started their long walk in the morning. Will grabbed Seline’s hand and led her around to the mouth of his tent. They went inside and sat down together on the bed roll that he had made on the ground. Will took Seline’s hand and kissed it. “I can’t believe it. I thought that I would never see you again, and now here we are and you are my wife. It is like I get to have everything that I ever wanted in one night, only to have it all taken away again in the morning.” His eyes had turned sad. Seline woke drowsily but warm and comfortable against Will’s side. He still held her in his arms. She could be very happy waking up like this for the rest of her life. She heard lots of bustling outside the tent. Men’s voices were carrying through the tent. Seline suddenly realized that she should not be in camp. She rolled over and shook Will’s shoulders. Standing outside the tent, she was able to see that most of the men had already taken down their tents and were getting ready to leave. Will bent down and rubbed his hands on the damp muddy ground in front of the tent. He quickly looked around to see if anyone was looking and then rubbed some on Seline's face and forehead. They worked together after that to get Will's bed roll picked up and tied to the horse as well as taking down the tent together and also tying it to the saddle as well. They continued to ride right on past the place that Seline would need to turn onto to go home. The commander riding with a small grin on his face as he rode. They rode right on past it and on until evening. Seline was a long way from home by the time they stopped. She was tired, hungry, sore and scared. Will had not looked up once the entire ride. The commander finally left their side when he announce that they were going to make camp and that he expected them to both report to him when they had set up their tents. Seline made her way over to a more secluded spot near the trees. She dismounted and turned to Will. Since she was not an actual soldier they had not issued her a tent or a bed roll or a mess kit. Will and Seline walked single file to the commander’s tent which had been set up for him by troops that were at the beginning of the procession, that way it was ready when he got here. Will told the guard that he was ordered to report to the commander once his camp was ready. The guard walked to the tent door and was told to enter. In a moment he came back out followed by the commander who was now without his uniform jacket and smoking a cigar. He walked up to stand in front of Will and Seline. He saluted and Will saluted back Seline followed suit a little late. The commander noticed but did not say anything. The next morning Seline and Will both awoke at the same time to the bugle sounding reveille. There was a murmurs of voices outside as men went to relieve themselves in the nearby woods. Seline dressed quickly needing to walk further into the woods then the men so that she could have some privacy. She grabbed a bucket pretending to go down to the stream to get some water. No one questioned her. Will followed her to stand guard while she went. Seline was not thrilled about the lack of privacy, but it was better than being found out, or worse. Frozen in place for the second time tonight, Seline did not move. “Name yourself sir.” Seline Answered the firm hand on her shoulder. The hand dropped down the side of her arm and spun her around. It was long since everyone just got out of training and it was the camp wide break time between training and their regular duties. “I have paper and pens back in my tent.
