Chapter 670

Author: Hauling Treasures
“Honey, is there anything we haven’t finalized yet?” Helen asked.

Zac sat on the edge of the bed, flipping through their wedding checklist. “Let’s see… wedding favors, cake and wine tasting, guest gifts, meeting with the officiant tomorrow, and of course, the venue rehearsal…”

“Ugh!” Helen groaned, throwing herself onto the bed. “There’s still so much left? My head hurts just thinking about it!”

Even though Wilfred had arranged for professionals to help, she still had to make all the final decisions.

Most of it wasn’t too bad, but there was no getting out of the venue rehearsal. No one could stand in for the bride.

“Why is wedding planning so exhausting?” She whined. “I still haven’t recovered from the pre-wedding photoshoot, and now I have to go through a full rehearsal? Do I have to wear heels all day again?”

Just the thought of high heels made her feet ache.

“Honey, I think I might cry.”

Zac put down the list and leaned forward to massage her shoulders, his ton

After half an hour, Zac and Helen arrived at the cafe ten minutes early since it was close to Mistletoe Villa. However, to their surprise, Elena was already there, seated as if she had been waiting for a long time. “Zac…” Elena stood up with a smile, but the moment she saw him walking in with her, their hands intertwined, that smile froze instantly. “You… came together?” “Of course,” Helen said smoothly, guiding Zac to sit inside the booth while she took the seat on the outside, ensuring Elena had a clear view of her hand resting possessively on his arm. “A woman asking my husband out alone at night? That doesn’t sit well with me. So, I came along. Whatever you have to say, go ahead—I’m listening.” Elena’s grip on her coffee cup tightened, her fingertips turning pale from the pressure. She thought Helen wouldn’t know. But Zac had told her. No wonder he had hesitated before agreeing, that brief silence was him seeking her permission. They had grown up together, y

Did Elena really not understand the concept of boundaries with a married man? Helen couldn’t stand the way she so casually called Zac by his name, as if she had any claim to him. Tonight, Helen was going to set the record straight—Elena needed to back off.Lowering her head, Elena looked almost frail in front of Helen’s unwavering presence. She reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope, placing it in front of Zac. With that woman sitting right beside him, the words she had rehearsed over and over in her head felt impossible to say out loud. Instead, she simply said, “This is my resignation letter. I hope you’ll approve it.“I’ll be leaving for Merika soon. I’ve already made arrangements there. My father has helped me sort out my living situation, and all that’s left is to book my flight. Everything is set up. You…” You don’t have to worry. The last sentence remained unspoken, swallowed by her pride and the presence of Helen. Helen raised an eyebrow. The way Elena

Bridesmaids and family members gathered around Helen, making last-minute adjustments to her gown and veil. But before Zac could see his bride, he had one more challenge—getting past the bridesmaids.“Not so fast,” one of them teased, blocking the doorway. “If you want to see Helen, you have to prove you deserve her!”Zac grinned, playing along. He answered questions about Helen, completed a couple of lighthearted challenges, and, of course, sli

Just earlier, Xena had been gossiping in the group chat about Helen. Yet now, she sat there in stunned silence, completely frozen. Had that really been Wilfred walking her down the aisle? No one paid attention to Xena’s shock—the wedding continued seamlessly. It was time for the bouquet toss. The bridesmaids, groomsmen, and any unmarried guests excitedly gathered at the front, eager to catch it. With her back to the crowd, Helen took a deep breath, raised the bouquet high, and tossed it over her shoulder. It spun through the air before falling into the sea of outstretched hands. Laughter and cheers erupted as guests playfully jostled to grab it. And then—against all expectations—the bouquet landed right in Justin’s hands. He had snatched it. Standing there like a victorious general, Justin held the bouquet high, a triumphant grin on his face. His suit was slightly rumpled from the scuffle, and a few strands of his carefully styled hair had come loose. Clearly, he h

That night, after the wedding had finally come to an end, Helen and Zac lay sprawled across the massive bed in the bridal suite at the White family estate. Nestled under the covers, they lazily picked at the assortment of treats scattered across the bed—chocolates, chips, nuts, and other little snacks.Helen let out a long sigh, popping another bite into her mouth. “This whole day has been exhausting. Honestly, I’m so glad we didn’t have a bachelor or bachelorette party last night. If we had, I don’t even know if I’d have made it through the wedding.” She rubbed her cheeks, which still ached from hours of smiling. She had imagined this night so many times—her wedding night, filled with romance and passion. But now? She was too tired to even think about it.Zac chuckled and gently placed a piece of chocolate in her mouth. “Here, eat.”Helen chewed happily, but her gaze suddenly drifted to a thick stack of notebooks sitting on the coffee table. Curious, she pointed at them. “What’s

Three days after the wedding, Helen and Zac packed up some gifts and left early from the White family estate, heading to Mistletoe Villa for their official post-wedding visit. Thinking they had arrived plenty early, Helen was shocked to find out that Justin had beaten them there. In fact, he had barely left at all. Ever since the wedding, Justin had been practically glued to this house, afraid that if he so much as blinked, Haley would board the next flight back to Merika State without saying a word. Helen nudged Haley, lowering her voice. “Sis, what is going on with Justin? He hasn’t been here this whole time, has he?” Helen stole a glance at him. He was chatting away with Zac like he belonged here. Then she muttered, “He’s acting like a full-on son-in-law already.” Haley didn’t even bother looking up from her flower arrangement. “Stop talking nonsense. How’s life at the White estate?” At the mention of it, Helen’s face turned red. Being married just felt… d

But just as they reached the town square, a white van suddenly sped in.Before Alex or the housekeeper could react, several masked men jumped out. A cloth was pressed over Alex’s face and over the housekeeper’s too.“Mmmph—!” They struggled, but within seconds, the drug took effect. But no matter how long they waited, he didn’t return.Everyone began to feel uneasy.“I’ll go check on him. Haley shook her head quickly, flustered. “No… I mean—no.” Then she realized how that sounded and corrected herself. “Actually, yes. I’m just hot.”Helen blinked in confusion. “Hot? The classroom has air conditioning. Was the sunlight from the window hitting her seat?” Helen wondered.Without missing a beat, she rushed over and tugged the curtains tighter, making sure her bestie didn’t get “sunburned.” She still needed Haley to hold onto that top spot. Otherwise, she would lose her excuse at home for going out to “study” with Zac.The pressure and tension of senior year finally came to a close. On the day of the college entrance exam, when everyone stepped out of the test hall for the last time, their faces lit up with genuine smiles—relaxed, free, and full of relief.Haley tossed aside her textbooks. Her summer break was filled with makeup shopping trips with Helen or third-wheeling her and Zac on their study-dates-turned-real-dates.That routine came to an end the d

Haley’s eyes shifted as she thought quickly. “But… I don’t really like guys who rank higher than me on exams.”She gave a light shrug and continued, “I mean, I think we should be focusing on school right now. Relationships can wait until after we get into college, right? What if we don’t even end up at the same school? Long-distance never works, and after a while, we’d probably drift apart. Don’t you think?”Was that a gentle rejection? It seemed like it. Haley wondered if she had been too blunt. Had she left him any dignity at all? They still had a whole year of high school left together. She didn’t want things to get awkward between them. A harsh rejection would only make everything more uncomfortable.Justin furrowed his brows, thinking for a long moment before giving a single reply. “Okay.”Then he slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked off.Haley stood there, completely confused.“Okay? What did he mean by that?“Did he understand what I was trying to say?

Emma and her little clique of schoolyard mean girls had Justin completely surrounded.“I’ll ask you one more time,” she said, smug and unbothered. “Will you be my boyfriend or not?”“No,” Justin replied coldly, his face unreadable.“Hey!” one of Emma’s loyal followers stepped forward, cracking her knuckles and getting way too close. “Do you even know who our Emma is? She’s the heiress of the Xander Corporation. She’s giving you a chance, and you should be grateful. You better say yes.”“What, you want us to beat you up before you agree?” another girl sneered.Justin didn’t flinch. His icy stare locked onto the girl who spoke, completely unbothered by the threat.Emma waved a hand to hold her crew back, pretending to be generous. Then she turned to Justin again, cocky and bold.“I like you way too much to have anyone rough you up,” she said sweetly. “But I heard you’re trying to get into Altiplano University in the capital. Here’s the deal—if you go out with me, I’ll have my dad

Zac immediately trailed after them.“Where are you two going? Take me with you.”“You planning on going into the girls’ bathroom, you perv?” Helen smacked his hand away, not wanting their classmates—or worse, their teacher—to get any ideas about the two of them dating.Zac scratched his nose. “Fine, I won’t go in the girls’ room… but I can go to the guys’ one, can’t I?”“Hmph!” Helen huffed, scrunching her nose playfully.Zac clutched his chest

Inside, the air-conditioned classrooms offered a much more comfortable escape. In Class 2–1 of the junior year, students hurried back to their seats. It was just a shame that life rarely worked out the way people wanted it to.*Ten years passed in the blink of an eye.Chase and Alex had grown taller and older. Haley’s once-small jewelry brand had not only found its place in the industry—it had grown into a globally recognized luxury label, known for bespoke, high-end pieces. As for Justin, he split his time between Haven State and Merika State. Whenever he wasn’t busy, he would shamelessly camp out at the estate, claiming he was just there to “see the kids.”Eventually, no one even bothered to call him out on it anymore. One day, Haley had a business meeting with a potential partner—a widowed single father. Somehow, Justin caught wind of a rumor that the man had feelings for Haley and was actively pursuing her. Word had it that she was interested too, and they were currently having dinner together at a restaurant. The second Justin heard that, he canceled a company meeting, boarded his private jet, and flew straight to Mer

As soon as Haley stepped into the room, Justin followed right behind her.It was the first time he had ever set foot in Haley’s room—the space where she lived in Merika State.“Get out!” she snapped.“Haley, I just wanted to see you. Please don’t make me leave, okay?”His eyes scanned the room. The walls, the shelves—everything was filled with Haley’s photos. There was even a custom-built glass display case, clearly made with love, housing her pictures from childhood to adulthood. It was something Evelyn had put together just for her, and it overflowed with affection. There were portraits of her alone, family pictures, and right at the top—photos of Chase and Alex.Justin looked at each one carefully, as if he were trying to piece together a life he hadn’t been part of, but desperately wished he had been. Then his gaze landed on a particular photo: Haley in her teens, wearing a soft pink-and-white hoodie with little bunny ears on the hood. Her pale skin, big round eyes, and brig

“Haley…” Justin’s voice was weak. There was so much he wanted to say, but he didn’t even know where to start.“I heard you’re sick?” Haley said.“I… I’m fine. I’m not really sick, I just—”“Take care of yourself. Heart problems aren’t like other illnesses. Just look forward. Let go of the past. Meet someone new. Live your life.”Justin fell silent. His head dropped, and the phone pressed against his ear was clenched so tightly in his hand that his knuckles turned white. He wrestled with the words for a long moment before finally managing to force out.“Okay.”But he knew. He wouldn’t meet someone new. Without Haley, what kind of life could he possibly call “living”?The call ended. Life went back to its quiet rhythm. Justin no longer clung to Haley or tried to find her.
