Chapter 98

Author: Aurora Wells
Julian let out a cold snort.

"You were always jealous of her—spreading rumors, threatening her. You’ve done plenty of terrible things. This is just another one of your usual tricks."

I was completely numb to his accusations by now.

Turning to the attendants, I said calmly, "Go check the security footage. That should clear everything up."

At those words, Julian’s expression shifted slightly, and Chloe’s face paled with obvious guilt.

Immediately, she threw herself into Julian’s arms.

"Julian, just let it go, okay? It’s just a small cut. Maybe Miss White didn’t mean to do it. She probably just slipped and accidentally hurt me."

She turned to me, her voice soft and pitiful. "Right, Miss White?"

I remained expressionless. "That’s not for me to say. After all, Mr. Moore already decided I was guilty before seeing any proof."

Chloe quickly latched onto Julian again.

"Julian, there are so many important people here tonight. My injury isn’t worth making a big deal over. Really, it was my own

“Julian, let me go! It hurts!” “Would you regret it if I died?!” “Julian, don’t leave with Chloe. I love you…” I jolted awake, gasping for air like a fish stranded on dry land. My chest heaved uncontrollably, and my throat felt like it was being torn apart. Opening my eyes with great effort, I was met with the blinding glare of fluorescent lights overhead. The rhythmic beeping of machines nearby further confirmed my suspicion that I was in a hospital room. “She is awake. The doctor said it’s just a head injury and emotional shock. Nothing serious.” A low voice spoke on the phone beside my bed. I slowly pieced together the situation. So, I was sick? A cold, clear voice came through the phone speaker. “As long as it’s nothing serious. I have a video conference to attend, so I won’t be coming over.” The person holding the phone sighed, turned around, and was startled to see me awake. “Mrs. Moore, you’re awake?” I opened my mouth, about to ask a question, but the woman in

After two days of rest in the hospital, Dolly drove me home. I wanted to leave with her, but she quickly locked the car door behind me, letting out a huff. "You’d better stay here. If your memory comes back and you end up crying your heart out and running back to Julian, I don’t want to be the bad guy who stopped you." It was clear from her wary expression that my love-obsessed antics over the years had traumatized her more than a little, leaving her with a massive mental scar. I stood in the driveway, watching her car disappear into the distance. Then, I frowned and stepped into the massive villa. The house was enormous, empty, and unfamiliar. But when I saw the wall covered in rows of wedding photos, I knew I was in the right place. An older woman who looked like a housekeeper approached and took my luggage. “Miss White, Mr. Moore is away on a business trip today and won’t be coming home. You don’t need to wait for him to have dinner.” I nodded and headed upstairs witho

The sound of water from the shower came in spurts as I hurried to change into my clothes. To avoid any "inappropriate" accidents, I chose the most conservative tracksuit I could find. Julian walked out of the bathroom. My face betrayed me, heating up again. He was shirtless, a loose white towel hanging low around his hips. His damp hair clung to his forehead, and droplets of water trickled down his sharply defined jawline, sliding over his chest before disappearing into the chiseled lines of his abs. I stared, mesmerized, until his derisive chuckle snapped me out of it. Embarrassed, I turned my head away. A wave of warmth brushed against my back as he leaned in close, his breath grazing my ear. "Now that you’re back, stop making a fuss. Be good." His tone was almost patronizing, like soothing a child. My chest tightened painfully. Despite everything, this body had the nerve to react, fluttering with that unmistakable feeling of attraction. I stepped away from him, deter

I turned and started upstairs. Seeing Julian act so subservient was almost painful to watch. “Miss White, are you feeling better?” The woman’s soft, gentle voice floated up from below. I stopped, glancing back reluctantly. “Much better.” Before she could say more, Julian cut in. “She’s fine. Just a bump.” I let out a cold laugh. “Julian, you didn’t even bother visiting me in the hospital. How exactly do you know I’m fine?” His expression darkened. “Evelyn, stop making a fuss.” “Making a fuss?” I laughed again, the bitterness seeping through. “I’m simply stating facts. Since when does that count as making a fuss? Or is it that in your eyes, any time I speak up for myself, it’s just me being dramatic?” Disgust swelled in my chest, peaking at that moment. I was certain now that over the past seven lost years, I must have been driven to rage countless times by Julian’s complete indifference and dismissive comments like “fussing,” “acting up,” or “being childish.” No wonde

Upstairs, I heard the sound of the car starting. Unable to resist, I leaned out slightly and caught sight of Julian wrapping his arm protectively around Chloe, guiding her into the car. As if sensing my gaze, Julian suddenly looked up at the second-floor window. Our eyes met. For a moment, he frowned, his lips parting slightly as if he wanted to say something. I stared back at him coldly, unmoved. Julian seemed taken aback, likely not expecting me to remain so quiet. “Julian?” Chloe’s gentle voice called from beside him. Following Julian’s line of sight, she glanced up and noticed my shadow behind the window. “Julian…” Chloe’s voice softened further, laced with a delicate sense of grievance. “If you’d like to stay and be with Miss White, it’s alright. I can manage on my own.” Julian snapped out of his thoughts, quickly masking whatever emotion flickered in his eyes. “It’s nothing. Let’s go.”Chloe tilted her head slightly, casting a glance up toward the window. I s

The next morning, I woke up to find it was already nine o’clock. Stretching my stiff neck, I got up, freshened up, and headed downstairs. The living room was empty, but someone was sitting in the dining room having breakfast. As I approached, I saw that it was Pierse. The moment Pierse noticed me, he let out a disdainful snort and turned his head away, refusing to look at me. My gaze dimmed slightly, but I ignored him and went to the kitchen to find something to eat. The kitchen offered slim pickings—some cold oatmeal and a few stale slices of toast. Frowning, I opened the fridge, grabbed some milk to heat up, and fried two eggs for myself. When I carried my simple breakfast out of the kitchen, Pierse looked at me as though he’d just seen a ghost in broad daylight. I frowned. “Why are you looking at me like that? Did I forget to wash my face?” Pierse pointed at the food in my hands, his tone incredulous. “You can cook?” His questioning tone rubbed me the wrong way.

The lounge was elegantly arranged, offering floral arrangement stations, live acoustic performances, and even a mahjong area, clearly designed for high-profile female guests.Familiar with these types of settings, I quietly selected a floral arrangement station and began assembling a bouquet, focusing on the delicate balance of colors and textures. Before long, Chloe sauntered over gracefully. Her cheeks were flushed, likely from the alcohol she had consumed during dinner.I glanced at her briefly but continued with my arrangement. She sat beside me, watching with a half-smile, studying me for a long moment.I finally asked, "Do you need something?"Chloe let out a soft laugh. "Miss White, I admit, I underestimated you."Snipping the stem of a flower, I replied indifferently, "Miss Clarke, if you have something to say, just say it."She exhaled and leaned in slightly. "One hundred million. I’ll convince Julian to give it to you. In exchange, you sign the divorce agreement amicably."I

Oh, so Julian thought I was bullying Chloe again. But then why hadn’t he been willing to publicly claim her just moments ago?Maybe my head still wasn’t fully right—because no matter how I looked at it, I couldn’t understand what went on in these men’s minds. After failing to get a reaction from me, Chloe immediately turned her attention to Miles. Her voice remained soft and delicate, the kind that would stir pity in any normal man. That was Chloe’s talent—shameless persistence and the ability to play the victim at any given moment.I heard her say, "Mr. Wynn, I’ve admired you for a long time. I never expected you to be even more handsome and charismatic in person than the rumors suggest."Miles responded with a simple, indifferent "Mm."Not discouraged, Chloe continued, "Mr. Wynn, you’ve accomplished so much at such a young age. I truly envy Miss White… She always seems to have a way of finding men like you."I nearly choked on my tea.Barely restraining my disgust, I lowered my eyes.

Everyone was speechless. The room fell into a brief silence. Julian's expression darkened even further, while Chloe's wasn't much better. I tugged lightly at Miles' sleeve. He glanced at me with a smile. "Now that I've said my piece, shall we take our seats?" With that, he led me to the table. Julian and Chloe remained standing, frozen in place. He came here expecting one thing but ended up completely humiliated instead. From the way his jaw clenched, I could tell he was debating whether to turn around and leave. But nearly everyone at this table was a heavyweight in the city’s business world. If he left now, it would undoubtedly damage his reputation. In the end, he forced himself to take a seat, his face as dark as ever, with Chloe following beside him. I caught the look she gave me—complicated, layered with jealousy, resentment, and deep-seated bitterness. Lowering my gaze, I chose to ignore the two of them entirely. I still didn’t fully understand why Miles

"The injustice she suffered in the past was my fault. From now on, she is my girlfriend, and one day, she will be Mrs. Wynn."A tremor ran through my entire body, and my eyes burned with unshed tears.I fought to hold them back, but my vision still blurred with moisture.I couldn’t see the expressions of those around me, nor did I want to look at Julian’s darkened face. All I knew was that Miles was standing up for me.He was reclaiming my name and defending me in front of everyone. He was using his status, his very name, to erase the disgrace of my past.He was pulling me out of the mud.Julian looked as though he wanted to lash out, but Chloe tugged at his arm before he could speak. With a soft, honeyed voice, she smiled. "Congratulations, Mr. Wynn! And to you as well, Miss White!"There was a barely perceptible flicker of jealousy and envy behind her delicate expression. She turned to Julian, who stood there fuming, and said sweetly, "Julian, look at Mr. Wynn, he’s so bold in pursui

I rose from the bench and walked toward Miles. My palms were damp, my heart clenched with tension, but in this setting, I knew one thing for certain—I could not lose my composure. If I faltered, it wouldn’t just be my own dignity at stake; it would reflect poorly on Miles as well. The moment Julian entered, Miles acknowledged him with a casual lift of his wine glass, a faint, unreadable smile playing on his lips. Then, he turned to me and called softly, "Eve, come here." Julian’s expression instantly darkened. His disbelief was plain as he turned his sharp gaze on me. But by then, I had already reached Miles' side. Without hesitation, Miles had me take his arm, his expression calm yet filled with amusement as he glanced at Julian, who was clearly reeling. He spoke in an easy, reassuring tone. "Eve, don’t worry." I forced down the unease in my chest and instinctively nodded. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t shaken. But deep down, I trusted Miles. I knew he was

Inside a spacious and elegantly decorated private dining room, I immediately recognized a few familiar faces. I had seen these people on TV before! My mind short-circuited again, struggling to process the moment. Fortunately, I still remembered Miles’ instructions. Forcing an awkward smile, I clung tightly to his arm. The people at the table turned toward us, all smiling with interest. Someone teased, "Well, well, this is the first time I’ve ever seen young Miles bring a date. Come here, let me take a look at you properly." The man speaking, Edmund Stanton, was dressed in a sharp, well-tailored three-piece suit, clearly custom-made. Miles led me forward with effortless composure and greeted him respectfully. "Good evening, Mr. Stanton. This is my girlfriend, Evelyn White." For a moment, the entire room fell into complete silence. Even the server pouring tea paused, glancing over in shock. As for me, I had gone completely stiff, unsure of where to put my hands or fee
