Chapter 503

Author: Summer Knowles
What a joke. No one had ever asked if she wanted any of their concern.

Scarlett came back from the dance floor, and the moment she saw James, her guard shot up. “James? What the hell are you doing here?”

Sarah quickly stepped in. “Scarlett, Mr. Chancer is just here for a drink. Let’s not bother him.”

Scarlett narrowed her eyes at Sarah, clearly skeptical, but she didn’t press the issue. Instead, she followed Sarah to a newly opened booth.

When the bartender placed their drinks down, Scarlett scoffed, shaking her head. “That guy’s insane. He was so desperate to divorce you just to marry Charlotte, and now he won’t leave you alone.”

“Forget him,” Sarah muttered. She had no time to waste on James—her mind was still replaying the image of Zachary holding onto Vivian as they left the bar.

Over at the bar counter, James downed his cocktail in one go, the bitterness lingering in his throat.

Then his phone rang.

He picked it up, expecting nothing urgent—until his assistant’s voice made

After scaring the man off, Steven turned back toward the booth. Sarah and Scarlett were still drinking, completely oblivious to the danger they’d just been in. His anger flared. Without hesitation, he snatched their glasses away. “Scarlett, look at me!” Something in his voice cut through her drunken haze. At the sound of his command, Scarlett snapped to attention, a shiver running down her spine as she looked up at him. “Steven?! What… what are you doing here?” Panic flashed across her face, and in a desperate attempt to hide, she covered her face with her hands. “Nope, not me! You’ve got the wrong person!” Steven clenched his jaw. “Wake up. Do you have any idea what almost happened just now? Why the hell weren’t you answering your phone? I called you dozens of times!” His eyes were red with frustration. Scarlett shrank back, guilty. “I’m sorry, okay? Sasa was feeling down, so I brought her here to relax. I wasn’t planning to get drunk…” But after Sarah came

The next second, Sarah yanked her hand away like she had touched something scorching hot. Her hazy eyes stared at him in suspicion. “Are you… the big bad guy?” Zachary frowned slightly before realizing—she was talking about him. He let out a sigh and, with a hint of indulgence in his voice, said, “Yes, I’m the big bad guy. And I’ve come to take you home.” “No, I’ve got no home to return to…” she murmured. His gaze darkened slightly, and his voice softened even more. “Sasa, you do have a home.” She muttered something incoherent, then suddenly mumbled, “Big bad guy, I don’t need you. Go take care of your Miss Wilson.” Her words were slurred, her eyes half-closed, her thoughts drifting aimlessly. Zachary knew she was completely drunk. Without another word, he gently pulled her up. “I’ll take you home.” He led her out of the bar, but when he tried to help her into the backseat of his car, she resisted. Shaking her head furiously, she plopped down onto the pave

“Zachary… my leg hurts.” The words were soft, almost childlike, but they hit him like a sledgehammer. His pupils shrank, his entire body tensing as he instinctively looked down at her leg. “…Why does it hurt?” A stiff, pained smile twisted on his lips—one that looked more like he was about to cry. Sarah wasn’t even fully conscious, yet tears streamed silently down her face. Her right hand clutched at her thigh—the exact spot where he knew she had a scar. That scar. Buried deep in her subconscious, hidden beneath years of suppressed memories. People say that when you’re drunk, the truth slips out—the things buried so deep inside you, the things you never speak about when you’re sober. And now, Zachary was terrified. Because if those painful memories resurfaced—if she finally remembered—she would realize that things weren’t what she thought they were. And then what? Would she ever be able to face him again? Would she ever forgive him? “Sasa… w

"Marianne," Vivian asked with reddened eyes, "why didn't he stay with me last night?"The question of love - the answer was obvious. She didn't need to beat around the bush; even she knew how Zachary felt.Marianne averted her gaze, stammering, "Miss Wilson, Mr. Reynolds probably had some business to attend to. Besides, didn't he already agree to your father's proposal?"Vivian knew he'd agreed, but being forced and doing it willingly were two different things.Though she considered herself exceptional, matters of the heart were never simple. Then her phone rang."Miss Wilson, after leaving your house yesterday, Mr. Reynolds went straight home."Vivian breathed a sigh of relief, but what came next made her heart clench. "Around 1:30 AM, Mr. Reynolds went out again."Before the caller could finish, Vivian cut in urgently, "Did he go to Ink Bar?""Yes, Mr. Reynolds went to Ink Bar and left with a woman. They were going to take a car, but she said something, and Mr. Reynolds e

"Zachary," Vivian had asked, they all say you love Sarah, not me. That I ruined your happiness. Is that true?" "No."She'd forgotten so much from that night, but those two lines remained crystal clear. They were right - she was just a clown, bound to be pushed aside once the real leading lady appeared. She'd woken up this morning with a splitting headache, the previous night a complete blank. The last thing she remembered was cursing out James, then drinking with Scarlett to drown her sorrows. She'd blacked out - but what about Scarlett? After getting dressed and heading downstairs, she found Melvin watching her with gentle concern. The housekeeper had already prepared hangover remedy."Sasa, come drink this."Sarah obediently sat at the table and finished the drink. "Melvin, how did I get home last night? Where's Scarlett?""Scarlett went home. The bar owner called me to pick you up."Sarah nodded, unconvinced. She was sure she'd heard Zachary's voice. On that walk home

Scarlett winked. "Of course, and if you happened to share some of that wine again, even better."Mr. Sadberry immediately put down his taco. "I knew it!""Just kidding, just kidding. Please, enjoy your food," Scarlett laughed. After chatting briefly with Mr. Sadberry, Sarah and Scarlett left.In the elevator, Sarah was still puzzled. Remembering Mr. Sadberry's comments about his wife while they danced, she wondered if he'd helped because she reminded him of Mrs. Sadberry in her youth.Sarah hadn't forgotten about last night and continued pressing Scarlett for more details.Meanwhile in Mr. Sadberry's office, someone emerged from the rest area."Thank you, sir."Mr. Sadberry enthusiastically munched on his taco, waving dismissively. "No need for thanks. After all, you're the one who went to such lengths to get me to sign with the Sanders. Though I'm curious - was it because of that girl?"Zachary didn't answer, just tapped the desk lightly. "Sir, I hope you can keep this confid

Melvin was already expanding on the idea in his mind - they could even add actors playing wild men, or maybe zombies for extra thrills."Sasa, great idea, but safety has to be our top priority."Sarah nodded in understanding, then pointed to an area she'd had reserved next to the resort. “Melvin, guess what I want this space for?"When Melvin looked confused, she continued, "A wellness center - I want to build the best therapeutic facility on the East Coast. Not just counseling, but stress relief zones too. Many people suffer because they can't release their emotions. This center would help with that.""Your ideas never cease to amaze me," Melvin smiled. "This is your forte - it's all yours."She nodded, checking the time. It was 9:20 - Joel was twenty minutes late without any sign of showing up.“Melvin, is Joel still coming?" she asked, frowning.Sarah found it odd too. Even if something came up, they should have received a call.He reluctantly tried calling, but there was no

The previously hopeful team now felt deflated."Don't lose heart," Melvin told them. "He's just one designer."There were plenty of renowned international designers - surely the Wilsons couldn't have them all in their pocket. At the prison, Michael was escorted out. “Michael Luther, you have a visitor."He'd been here a long time; even his father hadn't visited lately. There was only one person he kept thinking about - but could it be her?He stared at his blurry reflection in the glass. His unshaven face looked haggard.Prison life meant early nights and morning exercises - he stayed relatively healthy, especially with all the "arrangements" his family had made with the warden for special treatment. He walked nervously to the visiting room, took a deep breath. The guard opened the door, and his eyes turned cold when he saw who it was. Not her."Mr. Luther, you look disappointed. Who were you expecting?" Sarah smiled, perching on the visiting room table.Michael shook his h

Her assistant contacted her immediately."Miss Wilson, our shipment at the dock has been detained. By the time I received the news, it had already been held for three days. If we delay any longer, we'll lose a major deal," her assistant said urgently.Vivian had received an excellent education and was being groomed as the Wilson Group's successor, so she naturally wouldn't lose her composure. She calmly asked, "Have you looked into why the shipment was detained?"The assistant hesitated, "I heard that your fiancé, Mr. Reynolds, personally reported that shipment.""That's impossible!" Vivian's voice rose in pitch, her face filled with disbelief."Did you investigate thoroughly? If this turns out to be false, I won't let you off easily and will sue you for defamation." She couldn't figure out what it was for.Only after Pine Mist Island's promotional materials came out did she fully understand the purpose of that small building. Before Zachary could react, tears streamed down Mia's face. "Brother, tell me, is everything I read true? The Wilson factory explosion, the fake medicine, the murders to silence people! How did Mom really die?"For the first time, Zachary looked at Mia helplessly. Since she was very young, he had always protected her well, making her feel like she lived in a fairy tale. But even the most innocent person must eventually face harsh reality. This time, he sighed and said, "It's exactly as you saw."Mia couldn't believe it. Her eyes widened, her nose reddened, as she looked at him in confusion. "It was the Wilson family? Grandpa Wilson was involved?"After saying this, endless hatred erupted in Mia's eyes. Her crimson gaze seemed to drip blood. "I'll kill him!"She turned to leave, but Zachary immediately lunged forward and grabbed her. "Mia! You can't go!"Mia's strength reached its peak in that moment. She desperately tried to break free from Zachary's grip. "Let me go! Why are you

Mia explained somewhat bashfully, "Sarah, ever since you and my brother broke up, I've never seen him smile again. Every night when I go downstairs for water, I see him standing on the balcony looking miserable. I always ask what's wrong, but he never tells me. Until one day when he came home drunk, muttering your name."She paused before continuing, "Sarah, I know you were disappointed when my brother got engaged to Vivian. I still don't know why that happened. From what I can tell, you're the only one he's ever loved. I know you're both hurting, so I came up with this idea to create a chance for you to be alone together. But I never thought things would turn out like this. I'm sorry, Sarah. This isn't my brother's fault—please don't blame him."Sarah thought for a moment before saying, "Mia, can you help me with something?"Mia nodded eagerly. "What do you want me to do, Sarah?"Sarah motioned her closer and whispered something in her ear. After listening, Mia nodded solemnly. In

Seeing him helped Sarah gradually calm down. She looked around, trying to figure out where she was, but quickly remembered the photo in the study, accompanied by another headache."Zachary, what's the story with that photo in your study?" Sarah rubbed her head while staring intently at the man whose face briefly showed panic. She wouldn't give him any chance to back away."What are you talking about? What photo?" Zachary reached for a teacup. "Are you thirsty? You just woke up—have some water to soothe your throat."Sarah frowned, looking straight at Zachary. "I'm not thirsty. Don't change the subject! What's the deal with that photo?"Right—the photo.Just then, Mia timidly approached, wringing her hands nervously."Mia, how are you feeling?" Sarah asked with concern, shifting her attention.Mia said guiltily, "Sarah, I'm so sorry. It was my fault. I shouldn't have tricked you."When Sarah showed concern for her despite just waking up, Mia's guilt peaked. She hadn't expected Sa

She stared hard at this single photo, trying to uncover something more, but the longer she looked, the more her head ached. The pain felt like something tearing apart inside her, making her want to punch the wall.Meanwhile, in Mia's room, Zachary held both of Mia's hands while his eyes anxiously watched the door. Half an hour had passed—why hadn't Sarah returned?Mia continued struggling, her eyes also darting toward the door, quickly lowering her gaze to hide her concern from him.Zachary took a deep breath, released his grip, and said flatly, “Cut the act.”Mia fell silent immediately. She wasn't sure how her brother had figured it out, but she could only close her mouth sheepishly. "Zach, I—""Say no more. I'm going to check on her." Zachary couldn't wait another moment. He stood up and left.Mia followed right behind him. "I'm coming with you."When Zachary pushed open the study door, he saw Sarah collapsed on the floor. He instantly panicked and ran to her. "Sasa! First, she called out firmly, "Mia, stop!"Zachary followed her inside, instinctively positioning himself to Sarah's right, ready to protect her if anything unexpected happened.Seeing this, Mia secretly smiled to herself, more determined than ever to play matchmaker. In her excitement, she set her sights on a waist-high vase.Sarah's attention was completely focused on her. All of them were professor-level professionals for whom writing books was a minor achievement. The nanny specifically assigned to care for Mia also had tears in her eyes as she stared at the closed door with endless worry. "Mr. Reynolds, Mia hasn't eaten a single bite since this morning. We can't go on like this."Zachary irritably pinched the bridge of his nose and coldly ordered, "Aren't there still some candidates on our list? Send people to bring all of them here."The nanny bit her lip and gathered her courage to suggest, "Mr. Reynolds, I don't think bringing more experts will help. Why not ask Miss Sanders to try?"Zachary turned to look at her, his expressionless face making the nanny los

Please don't let us keep you from your duties."After speaking, he glanced at the housekeeper. The housekeeper instinctively stepped forward and extended his right hand courteously. "Director, please, let me escort you back."Mrs. Chancer sat on the stool that James had pulled over, staring at Charlotte's pale face with lingering fear, unable to look away for a long time.It wasn't that she truly cared for Charlotte; she was simply afraid of losing her chance to hold her first grandchild.James placed his hand on her shoulder and gently urged, "Mom, you've had a shock.
