The doctor’s words cut through the air like a knife, making everything around me blur into the background. My heart pounded in my chest, the sound of my pulse deafening in my ears. Complication. “What kind of complication?” My voice barely came out, strangled by fear.

The doctor’s eyes softened, but his expression remained serious. “He’s lost a significant amount of blood, and we’re having trouble stabilizing him. We need a blood transfusion immediately.”

A wave of cold fear washed over me, but it was quickly followed by a surge of determination. “Take mine. I’m a universal donor.”
