Davina

I arrived at home and was perplexed by the oddity of the at, manosphere. I checked the time, it was a little past six. The house is usually bubbly by this time. I took a pause before making my way to the dining room.

Mother and father are nowhere to be seen.

“Hi miss,” a maid passing by greeted. “Would you like anything to eat?”

“No, thank you”

She replied with an ‘okay’ and moved to go about her job but I called her back.

“Hey, are my parents in?”

She turned to face me completely. “Your target stepped out a while ago but your mother is in her room.”

“Okay, thank you.” I flashed her a small smile.

I made my way to the staircase but paused.

Am I sure I want to do this?

Can I really put my fear aside and let her in?

I continued and soon arrived at the entrance of her room. I raised my hand to knock but stopped.

It just occurred to me that I have never been here. I have never seen the inside of my parent’s room. I took a shaky deep breath before knocking.

  • After Divorce, My Wife Becomes The Boss Lady    CHAPTER 94

DavinaWe just sat there for a while. Her arms were around me. My head was on her chest. Neither of us said anything, but it didn’t feel weird. It felt okay. Like silence wasn’t something we had to fix.I wasn’t thinking about the office. Or the emails I hadn’t read. Or the meetings I’d probably have to reschedule. I wasn’t even thinking about Sebastian. Or the company. Or the weight I usually carried on my back every day.I was just there. With her.I had things I could’ve said. A thousand questions are buried deep. Stories I had stuffed so far down that I didn’t even know where they began anymore. But I didn’t open my mouth. I didn’t ask. I didn’t explain.I just let myself be held. And for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel like I had to fill the silence with something smart or useful. I let her be a mother. I let myself be a daughter.A soft knock broke it.Then the door creaked open.“Rose?” Father’s voice. Softer than usual. Careful.I turned a little, lifting my head.

DavinaI stood up and was ready to retire to my room for the night when Mother called me back. “Stasha,” she called softly, “come watch a movie with us.”I turned halfway down the stairs, confused for a moment. “A movie?”She nodded, walking toward the hallway that led to the theater room like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Yes. You can spare two hours, right?”My first instinct was to make an excuse. I was tired. My brain was full. I needed to breathe. But the way she said it—like she actually wanted me there—made me pause. The fact that I also wanted to go there also made me hesitate. My father walked past me with a small nod, following her. “It’s been a while since we had family movie night,” he said.Family movie night? I almost laughed. I didn’t remember ever having one. Not with them, anyway. But maybe that was the point. Maybe we were starting fresh. Or maybe they were just trying and this was the only thing they could think of.I found myself stepping down fro

DavinaI didn’t flinch. I didn’t react. I kept my face neutral like someone who had hurt me hadn't just been mentioned. Alex.Hearing his name was prickly and irritating. But I wasn’t going to pick at it. Not here. Not now. Not when things finally felt… not broken. If only they knew what he did. But I won't tell them, they don't have to know. He didn’t deserve to take up space here. Not in this room. Not in my mind. Not on this night that felt a little too fragile to carry anything else.So I tucked the thought of him away, stuffed it into some locked-up corner of myself, and held onto the moment instead. My mother’s gaze lingered longer than I liked. She was trying to read me. She always did that when she sensed something wasn’t right. And she wasn’t wrong. But I smiled anyway—small, steady.“You don’t need to worry,” I said casually. Like nothing in the world was weighing on me.She didn’t look convinced.“I am your mother, Stasha. I’ll always worry.”“I know.” I nodded once, not

DavinaTwo months passed slower than I expected, but not in a bad way. There were moments I thought I’d go stir-crazy being on bed rest, but somehow, I didn’t. It surprised me, really. I’d spent so much time bracing for the worst that I didn’t consider how peaceful stillness could be.Maybe it was the quiet. Maybe it was my parents. Or maybe it was the way things had shifted inside me—subtle but steady. I didn’t feel trapped. I felt… safe. For once, I wasn’t in constant motion or holding everything together. I was just here. Resting. Existing. I was up two tiny people who kicked when they felt like it and made my bladder their playground.“You’re bored,” my father said one morning as he dropped a newspaper on the edge of my bed.“No, I’m not.”“You are. I saw you organizing the spice rack yesterday from the iPad. That’s desperation.”“I just wanted to know where the cinnamon was.”He raised an eyebrow. “For the pancakes you didn’t make?”I rolled my eyes. “Details.”My mom walked in a

DavinaThe thing about slowing down was that eventually, I stopped fighting it. I stopped counting the weeks. Stopped checking the time every hour. It just... passed.I was in my seventh month now. That fact snuck up on me like most things had lately. Time wasn’t dragging anymore. It was just quiet. Steady. Something I let move on its own without trying to control it.The fear of whether or not I will be a good mother still lingered somewhere at the back of my mind but the thought wasn't as gnawing as it was months ago. My parents had been more present than ever. And I let them be. I didn’t shut them out. I didn’t pretend to be okay when I wasn’t, but I also didn’t dump my weight on them. We found a strange, workable rhythm. That was new for us.They suggested a picnic one morning. Not a grand thing. Just us. Blankets. Food. Some fresh air. I didn’t protest. I didn’t even roll my eyes like I used to."Are you sure you’ll be okay out there?" my mother asked, holding a thermos like it

Davina---It's amusing when something feels both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. That was how I felt when Mom walked into my room and told me she invited Aunt Ce and her son to dinner since her father wasn't around. “You know Ce’s son, Elijah, right?” she said that morning while flipping through the pantry. “He just got back into town. I invited them both to dinner.”I looked up from the table where I was sorting through mail I didn’t want to read. “I know of him.”“You’ve met him. Ages ago,” she said. “You probably don’t remember.”“I don’t,” I said, and I didn’t try to pretend I did.Mom smiled like she knew I wouldn’t. “He’s about your age. Thought you could use the company.”There it was. The real reason.“It’s not a set-up,” she added quickly, like she’d read my mind. “You don’t have to do anything. Just eat. Talk, maybe.”I nodded, not because I was thrilled, but because I didn’t have the energy to make a thing out of it. Aunt Ce was around all the time anyway. She c

Chapter 100DavinaIt didn’t hit me right away. Not when they left. Not when Mom gave me that little smile as she cleaned up the plates with the maids. Not even when I went upstairs and sat on my bed doing absolutely nothing. It hit me much later. When the house was quiet again. When the echoes of dinner faded and the stillness returned. That’s when I realized I had done something I hadn’t done in a long time.I let someone in.Not all the way. Not deep. But I cracked the door open. Just enough for air to pass through. Just enough for someone like Elijah to step through slowly without stomping around in the space I’ve spent years guarding. It wasn’t planned. I didn’t mean to let it happen. But it did.And now I couldn’t stop thinking about it.I reached for my journal—not the thick one with heavy covers and an expensive pen clipped to the side. The other one. The cheap one I got a month that still had so many blank pages, mostly because I’d stopped writing the moment everything in my

DavinaLater that week…….Lunch was going fine until Mom put her fork down and said, “We need to go shopping for the babies. Today.”I looked up, halfway through chewing. “Today?”“Yes, today. What are we waiting for? The babies will be here before you know it, and all you’ve got is a half-packed hospital bag and a growing list of things we haven’t bought.”She wasn’t wrong. I had been putting it off. Not intentionally, just… emotionally. Every time I thought about buying baby things, something in my chest tightened. Like if I bought the stuff, it meant this was real. And if it was real, it could go wrong.“Okay,” I said, setting my fork down. “We’ll go after lunch.”Mom’s whole face lit up. “Finally. I was starting to think you were waiting to have them first and then figure it out.”We ended up at a massive baby store. Mom claimed it was the best in town. I believed her—mostly because the second I stepped inside, I felt overwhelmed.“This place is a maze,” I mumbled.“That’s why we

DavinaDaniel soon fell asleep with his head on my chest. I laid him down slowly and tiptoe quietly out of the room. I gently closed the door and headed back to the backyard. The maids were now around and they were packing up slowly. Mother, Father, and Aunt Ce were sitting in one corner, sipping wine while laughing over something I am sure was an old recollected memory. Mom's eyes met mine and I gave her a smile. I looked around for Elijah and Alexander and I didn't have to for long as I saw them standing over the grill, turning meat over with one hand and a wine glass in the other.I was shocked by what I saw as they've always had a silent disagreement all this while. I don't know what beef they have, and they have refused to share, but I am sure they have some underlying misunderstanding they both kept aside to be with me at the same time.“Hey boy,” I greeted cheerfully, and I walked towards him. A maid passed me a glass before going about her packing. “Thanks,” I said to her w

DavinaThe car slowly drove into the Charez Estate, a place that has now properly become my home. I got out of the car when it parked. With Tim behind me with the cake in hand, I made my way into the living area of the house.“Mommy.”A cute little child embraced my legs the moment I stepped in.Danielle.“Elle. Happy birthday, my baby,” I greeted, picking her up with a smile.“Thank you, Mommy.”Daniel peeked at me from behind the couch, his usual quiet curiosity in his eyes. I crouched to his level and kissed his forehead. “Happy birthday, sweetheart.”He gave me a tiny smile and nodded, his fingers still clutching his bunny. The living room smelled like grilled chicken and vanilla. Light laughter floated in from the back of the house.“They’ve been asking for you since morning,” my mom said, walking in with a tray of drinks. She looked relaxed today, dressed in a simple pastel dress with her hair tied back.“Did I keep them waiting too long?” I asked, brushing Elle’s curls from her

DavinaI stared out the window of my office, the bustling city was full of activities below. It felt like yesterday when I awkwardly called out for my mom that my water broke. The intercom rang at my desk. I turned around and picked it up.”Hello” “Reminder ma'am.” Tim's voice rang out. “You're picking up the cake for the twins’ birthday.”“Yeah right. I almost forgot. Thank you, Tim” I replied back before hanging up. Daniel and Danielle will be three today. It still felt difficult to believe three years had passed. Three years since I have been divorced, three years since I found my family, and three years since I had my children, that had now become my everything.I glanced at the wall clock above and picked up my bag. It was time for my meeting. I walked out of the office in short, measured strides to maintain gracefulness. Tim joined me and trailed behind as I walked out of the office. The team stood up to greet me, and I have been able to build a good rapport with them over t

DavinaThe discharge papers came faster than I expected. One minute, the nurse was saying, “Maybe tomorrow,” and the next, she was handing me a file with my name on it and a list of instructions I’d already forgotten.I nodded through all of it, even though I felt like I hadn’t learned anything. Formula guidelines. Bath temperature. How to tell if something’s wrong. It was all a blur. The only thing I really heard was, “You’re cleared to go home.”Home.With Daniel and Danielle.A nurse helped me dress them. I’d packed their clothes but forgot which was for who. She figured it out and just did it for me, then helped me buckle them into the car seats. I checked each strap twice. Then a third time.Mom and Dad were already waiting outside. Dad had installed the car seats that morning—thank God—because I couldn’t have done it.“You okay?” Mom asked as I stepped out.I didn’t answer right away. I was standing there with two babies and a hospital bag and had no real idea what came next.“I

DavinaI didn’t really sleep. I might’ve closed my eyes a few times, maybe drifted off for a few minutes here and there, but nothing stuck. Every sound made me jolt upright. Every grunt, hiccup, whimper. I kept checking to make sure they were still breathing, still warm, still real. They were right there beside me. Two bassinets. Two tiny humans wrapped like miniature burritos. Mine.It still didn’t make sense in my head.A soft knock came. A nurse walked in, clipboard in hand, giving me a practiced, polite smile.“Good morning, Davina. Just doing rounds.”I nodded. “Morning.”She moved over to the twins. Quiet, efficient. She said something under her breath while reading their tags—“Baby A” and “Baby B.” I hated that. They weren’t just letters. She looked at me as she checked their vitals. “Have you decided on names yet?”I hesitated, even though I already had. I just hadn’t said it out loud to anyone but my parents.“Yeah. Daniel and Danielle.”Her smile softened. “Sweet. Matching n

DavinaThey didn’t come in right away. My parents waited until the nurses finished their checks and left the room. Aunt Ce had stepped out too. Probably to give us space. Or maybe she just needed a break. Honestly, she deserved one more than I did.The door opened again a few minutes later. My mom came in first, then my dad. They didn’t rush to speak. Just stood near the door, taking it all in. Like they didn’t know where to start or if they were even allowed to.I didn’t say anything either. I was holding both babies—one on each side—and I still hadn’t fully wrapped my head around the fact that they were mine. That they were real. That they were here.“You okay?” Dad asked quietly.“Yeah,” I said, then added, “Tired.”“You did good,” he said. “Really good.”My mom stepped closer. She looked down at the twins like she couldn’t believe they existed. I wasn’t sure I believed it either.“They look like you,” she said.I didn’t see it. Maybe the nose. Or the mouth. But I didn’t argue. She

DavinaNo one tells you what “time to push” really means. They say it like it's a line in a play. But there’s no script for this.I looked at Aunt Ce, and she gave a small nod. “It’s going time.”I nodded too, because what else do you do? But I didn’t feel brave. I felt like I was about to do something I couldn’t undo, and everyone was just... letting me.The nurses adjusted things around me, speaking in soft, practiced voices. They told me how to position my legs, how to breathe, and what to expect. One of them said, “We’ll guide you. You won’t be alone.”I didn’t even know her name. But I believed her.“Take a deep breath,” Aunt Ce said from the side. “When the next contraction hits, we’re going to start.”I nodded again, even though the air felt thin. I didn’t say anything. Just waited. When the pressure built again, they told me to bear down. I did. I followed instructions like a student trying to pass a test. I counted in my head the way they said. Three pushes per contraction. T

DavinaI felt it before I saw it.A slow, warm gush down my legs. At first, I thought I’d just peed myself. Embarrassing, but not the end of the world. Then it hit me.I stood there, frozen. “Mom?”My voice cracked a little. She walked in, glanced down, and didn’t even blink. “Your water broke?”“I think so.”“Okay,” she said calmly, already moving toward the closet. “Let’s get changed. You’ll be more comfortable for the ride.”“I thought I still had time,” I muttered, heart pounding.“We’ve had thirty-eight weeks. This is time,” she said, pulling out clothes like this was any other morning.I was still standing in place. “Should I be freaking out?”Mom gave me a look. “Are you?”“Yeah. Quietly.”She smiled a little. “Then you’re doing it right.”I changed into the clothes she gave me. Comfortable stuff—loose shirt, soft pants. Nothing hospital-chic, but better than a soaked nightgown. I grabbed my phone out of habit, not even sure why.“You call the hospital?” I asked.“Driver’s on t

DavinaI had no idea what day it was. I didn’t care either. Days had blurred together a long time ago. Bed rest would do that to anyone. For the last three months, I’d lived on the same rotation of sleeping, shifting around, trying not to lose my mind, and politely refusing help I didn’t ask for.The maids still hovered. Always nearby, like they were waiting for me to faint or call out. I appreciated it, in a way, but it also made me feel like a museum exhibit. Sometimes one would peek in with a glass of water I didn’t need or ask if I wanted my pillows fluffed.“I’m okay,” I told them, every time. They didn’t believe me. They still brought snacks and folded things I hadn’t touched.Earlier this morning, one of them had tried to help me get up like just standing was a project. I gave her a smile and waved her off. “You really don’t have to. I’ve got it.”She hesitated, then stepped back. But I knew she told another one. And they watched from the hallway, still unsure if I’d collapse h
