“So, if I do not give you an answer, you will stay there all day?” Davina said with a questioning tone, a little perplexed.

“Maybe, do you want to give it a try?” Alexander asked and leaned against the doorframe, folding his arms on his chest.

He didn’t even need to give a response; the vibe he was emanating and the expression on his face were enough answers on their own.

“No, I do not. What about the visitor you have in your office?” Davina questioned stubbornly.

Abigail, the sole spectator, just kept moving her gaze from whoever spoke last to whoever was speaking at the moment.

“She’s a friend and one that you might know of; just stop being stubborn and come inside,” he said and cocked his head inside his office.

Davina let out a sigh; there was no use arguing and going back and forth on whether she was going to enter into the office or not.

“The Alex I knew was never stubborn,” Davina muttered under her breath and slowly rose to her feet.

“Stubborn?” A rich chuckle escaped h

That's weirdly kind of funny. Why was she asking? Is there something between them that I am missing? There is no way I can tell; after all, this is my first time seeing her together with him, and I don't follow up on things that have to do with the entertainment department. I was tempted to tilt my head to look at him, but that would have been so awkward and might be uncomfortable if Alex caught my gaze. It was awkward enough that we were speaking in voices onl

Davina“What did you say to her to make her leave like that?” Alex questioned, finally raising his head away from whatever it was that had his attention all this while. I turned my gaze to stare at him and shrugged my shoulders without giving him an answer. “Come on, you need to tell me, Davina,” he said, closing off the document he was going through and paying me rapt attention. “I don't think I need to tell you,” I answered, my eyebrows pinched together in a slight frown. “It's ladies talk,” I added in an attempt to get him off the topic. “Well, this ladies talk involves me, so you can't expect me to just stay on the sidelines concerning this,” he replied, placed his elbows on the table, and leaned forward, looking at me with expectancy in his eyes. “What made you think that the ladies talk I had with Rocky involves you?” I questioned, tipping my head slightly to the side. I adjusted my sitting position so that I was facing him while my right hand rested on the headrest of the

Davina. After seeing the stuff on the news, I was so lost in thought that I had no idea how the day ended up. I barely paid attention to anything else or even took notice of anything specific worth taking note of. The next day arrived pretty fast; the hours sped past, and here I am. Sitting in a board meeting room with my father and two other people, I pushed off the stuff that had occupied my mind the rest of the previous day. “Good day, Mr. Steven,” my father said to the elderly man sitting across from us. “Good day to you also, Mr. Charez,” the man replied with a tight-lipped smile; his tone contained more respect in it than my dad’s tone did. The younger man sitting beside Steven, whom I guess to be the personal assistant of the elderly man, bowed his head and greeted, “Good day Mr. Charez.” My dad replied with a nod of his head. They both turned to look at me; I smiled and said to the elderly man, “Good day, Mr. Steven.”“Good day to you, pretty lady,” the man said with

Watching his daughter, whom he had just reconciled with, negotiate the deal in such a way that exceeded his expectations, Mr. William Charez couldn't help but smile widely. His skin curved at the edge of his eyes due to how wide his smile was. Sure, Davina had told him she was a managing director at a certain company, which he had checked out afterwards. He expected her to have an experience, sure, but the enterprise she had been working in was nothing compared to the companies he negotiated with most of the time. “I am sorry, we can't also agree on the deal that you are proposing to us; it is of a profit so little that I am tempted to call it insignificant,” Mr. Steven’s son, Jones, said with a firm tone. Davina took her time, deep in her thoughts for a bit. She didn't take long to respond, though. “Then we can compromise a bit. How about we increase the time by three months more and increase the amount by ten percent?” Davina said to Jones. Her tone came out more as absolute t

Davina.“I don't feel like it's a good deal, though, just a decent one,” I said to him, slipping the files back into the folder.“Why do you say so?” My dad said and sat back on the chair closest to him; the chair was positioned to face me.He placed his elbow on the table, with his face resting on his palm, while keeping his gaze on me. “I'm curious to hear your point,” he added.“I could have minimized the cost and found a way to get the deal to be completed at the actual time that we wanted, not postponed a little more,” I explained to him, making gestures with my hands. “No,” my father shook his head slowly, “you're quite wrong,” he replied. “Why do you say so?” I questioned and sat back on the chair closest to me, willing to hear what my errors were. “The deal is quite better as it is; the only way that Steven kid would have agreed to the initial amount and deadline set if he has sense would be to reduce the quality of products that are going to be used,” he answered. “So yo

DavinaThe silence of sitting in the study room of this building slowly enveloped me. The screen of my phone dimmed as I set it down on the desk, but the words were already burned into my mind. It wasn't just now that it burned into my mind, it had been there for quite a while, ever since the first day that I laid my eyes on the news.“Campbell Enterprises Faces Financial Crisis—Potential Bankruptcy Looms”I should have felt relieved. I should have been satisfied. But instead I felt nothing. Or maybe I did feel something. A dull ache shot deep in my chest. A strange, heavy weight that refused to lift. For years, I had poured my soul into that company. I had walked into those glass doors every day, working harder than anyone else—earning my place, proving my worth. And yet, when the time came, they had thrown me out without hesitation. I curled my fingers into fists, my nails pressing into my palms. This wasn't my loss, nor was it my failure. I shouldn't feel guilt or anything

Davina A few days went by and I threw myself into work. Or at least, that was what I told myself. I couldn't go to the office as I haven't been introduced officially yet, only a few family friends knew of my existence which gives me the chance to stay all locked up in the study. I needed to forget about my past and the only way I could do that was actively engage in activities. Even though it seems, the harder I tried, the harder the memories pushed to be remembered. I squeezed my eyes shut, my grip tightening around the leather-bound planner in my hands.Enough.Work. Work would keep me sane. For three days straight, I had avoided everyone.Every afternoon, Alexander would knock on the study door, inviting me to lunch. And every afternoon, I’d decline.I barely ate with my family, instead requesting for my meals to be brought to the study. I convinced myself it was easier this way. No questions, no worried glances, no pressure. But on the fourth day, as I was about to step into

Davina I couldn't sleep all night. I tossed and turned severally, holding on to my belly every now and then. When I finally drifted to sleep, I was jolted right back away. I had a nightmare where I was forced to get an abortion. No. I can't let anyone take my baby from me. I glanced towards the alarm clock. Past 6. I decided to prepare for work as I was sure I wouldn't be getting any more sleep. Putting my belly into consideration, I picked a free floral dress. To conceal my dark circles, I used mild make-up.Feeling set, I headed to the dining area for breakfast. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Alex wasn't present, he was starting to be annoying. “Alex has a breakfast meeting” my mother said, mistaking the relief in my eyes for disappointment. “Oh- I don't really care” Greeting father, I sat in my seat. We enjoyed breakfast quietly and I was relieved my morning sickness didn't happen at the table today. “Are you ready for your first day?” Father asked as he wip

Davina I rolled over in bed, the memories of last night flooding in. Mom had fed me and personally tucked me in. Even as an adult, being tucked in by my mother felt warm. I checked the time, it was still early. I planned on waiting behind for breakfast today. I need to apologize to my father for my outburst last night. I stood up from the bed and did my morning routine- bath, brush and get ready for work. Realising I still had quite a bit of time on my hands, I decided to go through the information I had on Lawrence King. For one, King is embezzling company funds and I have the proof of that. He's also morally corrupt, I have Christine's recording as proof. I have enough to take him down but I don't know why I feel there's more. One more day. I'll observe him for just today. The next day was the weekend anyway so by Monday, I should successfully come clean to dad about my findings, get rid of King and have a foothold as a Charez. Seeing it was time, I went down for breakf

DavinaI punched the house address into the system and found a shorter route home. Perfect. I was tired anyways. As I drove through the busy district of the city, I got to see a completely different side of the city. This place was also normal after all. There were still the struggling class trying to make ends meet. I turned at an intersection and was wowed. Street food. As if on cue,my stomach rumbled. Then I remembered I barely ate anything the whole day. This was unhealthy considering I had my baby to think of. Without giving it much thought, I rounded a bend and parked my car. Stepping into the street, I moved closer to the row of stalls. The smoky aroma of grilled meat filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of caramelized sugar. My stomach clenched, a sharp reminder that I hadn't eaten all day. But as I stepped closer to the stalls, my excitement wavered. The first vendor had skewers of sizzling beef, juices dripping onto the open flame. My mouth watered, but

Davina I punched the coffee shop address into the GPS system and drove off. The city looked calm, but was bustling at night. Neon signs flickered, their glow reflecting off rain-slicked pavement. The scent of roasted chestnuts from a street vendor mixed with the sharp tang of gasoline. Laughter echoed from a passing couple, their voices fading into the night. But none of it reached me.I saw people smiling—couples leaning into each other, their fingers brushing over coffee cups. A child squealed as his father swung him into the air, the sound bright and carefree. A street musician strummed a slow, jazzy tune, filling the night with warmth. Everyone looked so happy. But the joy felt distant, like watching a movie with the sound on low.But I felt nothing, I was just a shell going around. My left hand dropped to my belly while the right gripped the steering wheel. Warmth radiated beneath my palm, a quiet reassurance. My baby. The only thing that felt real in a world that had lost its

DavinaI arrived at the office much earlier than yesterday, an hour before the actual working hour. I had a theory and I need to confirm it. I glanced at Christine's desk as I walked past it. She was the woman King had asked to show me to my cubicle and right now her bag was placed atop her desk, but she is nowhere to be found. The office was still empty but it wasn't quiet. The noise was very faint but I still heard it- moans. I turned on my laptop and began skimming through King's schedule that was already arranged by the last secretary. There was a pattern- the first hour after lunch is always free. It seemed like nothing but I know better. It is something. I just have to find out what. I checked the time- ten minutes to the start of work. My theory should be proven anytime soon. I relaxed into my chair, popping candy in my mouth. Just as I expected, the door to King's office at the end of the hallway swung open. I swirled my chair in the direction just in time to see

SebastianSilence stretched across the glass-walled conference room, thick and charged. The overhead lights cast sharp reflections on the glossy table, highlighting the contract pages lying between them—evidence of deception spelled out in black and white.Sebastian’s grip on his briefcase tightened as he watched the woman across from him skim through the document. Her brow furrowed, lips pressing into a thin line. The man beside her leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled in front of him, an air of indifference masking whatever thoughts churned beneath.Sebastian had come here expecting resistance, but the sheer audacity of Carpel Myles was grating against his already frayed patience. The woman—Madeline Grant, one of Myles’ senior legal advisors—finally set the contract down with an exaggerated sigh. She lifted her gaze, carefully neutral, but Sebastian caught the flicker of unease in her eyes.“I fail to see the problem here,” she said smoothly.Sebastian inhaled sharply, forcing

Sebastian The sleek black SUV rolled to a stop at the red light, its polished exterior reflecting the city’s neon glow. It was an attention magnet—an unmistakable mark of wealth and power.Judging from the outside, it was easy to tell that the car wasn't the regular kind of cars that were mostly found on the streets. The glass was all tinted; it was hard to tell who the occupants of the car were, but to people outside, who couldn't help but stare at the car for far longer than normal, whoever owned the car was not one to be taken lightly. Sebastian, who the car belonged to, didn't notice the glances that were being thrown at his car, one of his most expensive possessions, because something else had his attention. It was the information of the contract that he had signed with Carpel Myles. He remembered vividly that his ex-wife, Davina, had come to warn him about it, but he had turned a deaf ear to it, and now he was paying the consequences for that. He was currently on his way t

DavinaDinner passed in a blur.I sat at the long table, absently poking my food with my fork, my appetite nowhere to be found. The spread was as elegant as always—gourmet dishes arranged meticulously, every detail reflecting the wealth and power of the Charez family. But none of it interested me.If only I could have some tacos. The thought came out of nowhere, strange and unfamiliar. I didn’t even like street food, yet the craving gnawed at me. My hand instinctively moved to my belly. My baby. The realization settled deep inside me, heavier than before. My mind drifted back to the first time I had been pregnant. Back then, Sebastian had been there. He had held me, cared for me, made me feel like I wasn’t alone. Now, he was nowhere—just a shadow lingering at the edges of my past.Masking my thoughts, I forced myself to take a bite, chewing mechanically. I couldn’t afford to draw suspicion. Not now.My father’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Join us in the sitting room after dinner

DavinaTaking a break from work, I decided to use the bathroom. The silence of the restroom was interrupted by the sound of approaching heels. I stilled, my fingers tightening against my lap as hushed voices filled the space."Did you see the new secretary?" A low, almost conspiratorial whisper."Of course. She’s gorgeous," the second voice replied, but there was hesitation—like beauty was a curse here, not a blessing.A pause. Then, the first voice dropped lower. "Did you notice how King looked at her?""Like he was already undressing her with his eyes."A sharp exhale. "I just hope she’s smart enough to stay away from him."The voices faded as the women exited, leaving behind a heavy silence.I stayed still for a second longer, their words sinking in. Traps. So it wasn’t just arrogance. King had a pattern.I needed to uncover it—fast. While thinking of my next course of action, my mind rummaged the different things King could be doing. Embezzling? Or is he just a mean boss? I can
