It had been three days since I signed the partnership deal, three days of trying to convince myself that I was ready to leave this city behind. And yet, as I stood in front of my bedroom mirror on, dressed in a simple navy-blue blouse and a pair of fitted jeans, I could feel the weight of hesitation pressing against my chest. My fingers trembled as I reached for my necklace, fastening it with a quiet click.

I chose to go on a Saturday because I knew that Courtney and my ex mother-in-law won't be home. Courtney always visited our parents every Saturday and Sebastian's mother never missed he'd Saturday pilates class. This way, I could avoid the drama and keep my sanity.

Today was the day. The day I would finally pack up my things from Sebastian’s house and leave—leave the memories, the pain, and everything that tied me to the Campbells.

I took a deep breath and turned, only to see Jane stepping out of her room, she was fully dressed.

I frowned, my brows pullin

The room fell into a suffocating silence as all eyes turned to me. Forks hovered mid-air, wine glasses paused at lips, and the gravity of their stares pressed against my soul like a slow-burning fire. Sebastian was the first to break the silence. "Davina?" His voice carried a note of disbelief. His brows knitted together as his gaze darted toward her mother sitting beside him. "What are you doing here?" I swallowed, forcing the lump in my throat down. I don't like reacting like this, but I couldn't help it. I was sweating. Lifting my chin slightly, I met his gaze head-on. "I didn’t realize there was an occasion. I’m just here to pack my things." My voice was steadier than I felt. Dean, one of Sebastian’s longtime friends, leaned back in his chair, a smirk curling at the corner of his lips. "Well, since you're here, you might as well join us. We're celebrating our partnership with Carpel Myles." Before I could even respond, a sharp, synchr

The moment the blade sliced through Courtney’s skin, a sharp gasp tore from my throat. My body froze, my mind struggling to comprehend what I had just witnessed. How can someone be so... uncouth. Blood beaded along the fresh wound, then dripped down her wrist, staining her dress. Courtney’s scream shattered the tense silence. She crumpled to the floor, clutching her wrist, her cries filling the room. Tears coursed down her pale cheeks, her breathing uneven as if she was drowning in her own distress. I took a hesitant step forward, my heart pounding. I didn't know how I was supposed to react. “Courtney—” Before I could get another word out, the door burst open. Sebastian stormed in first, followed by his mother, and my mother. His eyes darted to the trembling woman on the floor, and then—just as quickly—they snapped to me. “What did you do to my wife?” His voice was a low growl, brimming with barely contained fury. "What did you do to m

Davina The dim glow of the bar lights flickered over the polished counter, reflecting off half-empty glasses and the swirling haze of cigarette smoke. A low hum of music vibrated through the walls, blending with the murmur of conversation and occasional bursts of laughter. I traced the rim of my glass with my finger, watching the amber liquid slosh against the ice. It had been nearly two weeks since the divorce, and I had successfully severed all ties with Sebastian. No more biting remarks from my mother-in-law, no more suffocating expectations, no more pretending. I should have felt liberated, but the weight in my chest told me otherwise. The memories still clung to me, stubborn shadows that refused to fade. It'd take a while, Jane told me. She had practically shoved me out of her apartment tonight, insisting I needed a distraction. And so, here I was, sitting in a bar I hadn't stepped foot in since before my marriage. The atmosphere was strangely famili

Sebastian stood at the head of the grand conference hall as the room buzzed with hushed murmurs, employees exchanging glances, speculation thick in the air. Not that they didn't know what was happening, but did not expect it to be happening so fast. It had been just over two weeks since Davina was no longer a part of Campbell Enterprises—both as a wife and as the Managing Director. The void she left behind was undeniable, but now, a new chapter was unfolding. Courtney stood beside Sebastian, her posture poised, an air of silent confidence wrapped around her like an elegant shawl. She was striking—a deep emerald dress tailored to perfection, accentuating her slender frame. Sebastian lifted a hand, and the murmurs ceased instantly. "I want to thank you all for gathering here on such short notice," he began, his deep voice reverberating off the walls, filling every crevice of the vast room. "Change is never easy, but it is often necessary. As you all know,

Davina Going back to Campbell Enterprises after vowing to never step foot there again felt like stepping into a past I had tried to bury. I had told myself over and over that I was done, that I had no reason to care anymore. The company was no longer my responsibility. But knowing the business I had once poured my heart into was in danger made it impossible to walk away. That was my biggest achievement and watching it crumble just like? I inhaled deeply, steadying my nerves before pushing through the doors. I walked past the revolving doors, my heels clicking against the floor, and made my way toward the elevators but just as I reached the reception desk, a voice called out sharply. “Excuse me, miss!” I halted mid-step and turned. A woman I didn’t recognize stood behind the reception desk, her brows furrowed in disapproval. She was young, perhaps in her mid-twenties, with perfectly styled blonde hair and an air of self-importance. The nameplate on the desk read A

Davina News of Jane’s dismissal hit me like a blow to the chest. I had always known Courtney to be cold and calculating, but firing Jane? That was a new low. What business did she have interfering? She even believed that I planted her there as a spy, how could someone be so off the rails? Courtney thrived on authority, wielding it like a weapon, and throwing Jane out of Campbell Enterprises was just another way to flex her control. But I knew where the real blame lay—Sebastian. Making Courtney the Managing Director of the enterprises just weeks after my dismissal? Courtney could have graduated with first class degree, but she had no experience whatsoever to run a company. He only wanted to spite me, and damn it, he had succeeded. I still remembered the sharp sting when Courtney had revealed her new title with that smug glint in her eyes. As if that wasn’t enough, the image of Sebastian pressing his lips against hers, their bodies tangled together in his office, b

Davina. If I were asked whether I would stay in the same room as a stranger no matter the situation, I would have blatantly given a negative response a few hours ago. But alas, see me here in a room with a stranger. “Um… you should make yourself comfortable,” Alexander, or whatever he said his name is, said to me and walked from behind me after shutting the door. “Do you think that would be easy to do, now that I am staying in here with someone I had never met in my entire life?” I questioned with an arch of my right brow. “It all depends on you, miss…” he said with a small smile, one that seems gentle and… annoyingly sweet. Before I could even give a reply, he said something else.“I seem to have forgotten your name, it's Davina, right?” He reached down for the suitcase I had dropped close to my feet.“Yes, it is” I replied with a grumpy tone and reached down for the suitcase, placing my hand on it to stop him from lifting it. “And I can take care of my suitcase myself; I will

DavinaOn second thought, since Alexander said he ordered slightly more than he can finish, maybe I should just eat with him this night; he doesn’t look like one who would mean any hurt. I hadn’t taken many steps away from the suite door, so it only took me a couple of seconds to get back, but I chose to stay in front of the door for a couple more seconds. Is there any reason why I did so? I do not have any idea about that. I pushed the door open; Alexander raised his gaze from the food he was eating to stare at me with a mouth stuffed with food. He tried to talk with the food in his mouth, but instead he choked on it and reached for a glass of water. The expression he had on his face when he choked was quite funny that I was pushed to laugh; I tried to press my lips into a tight line to suppress the laughter about to burst forward. “Weren’t you taught table manners when you were younger?” I questioned, walking closer to him. He exhaled loudly, “I won’t lie to you, I had forgo

DavinaImmediately we made our way into the hospital; we were treated as extremely important people. I would have said it was quite similar to what I enjoyed as the adopted daughter of the Stewarts family and the wife of the Campbells eldest son. But I can’t. The way I watched the doctors and even everyone here treat Mr. Charez and Alexander, along with me—obviously for following them—it was like we were demigods. They wasted no time in taking what they needed from both me and… my dad. Immediately after they were done, the doctor placed in charge took us to his office after we were done in the lab. “You can have your seat, sir,” the man said, gesturing to one of the couches in his huge office with a bright, wide smile plastered on his face. “Thank you, Sam,” my dad said and had his seat. “As much as I would love to give you the result immediately, I am sorry to inform you that it would take quite a while,” the man said with a slightly apologetic tone. “You don’t have to apolog

Davina“Alex, if this is a joke, no matter how harmless you might think it is to you. Let me just let you know this: it is a rather expensive one,” Mr. William warned. My father warned. I couldn't stare at his face, so instead, I moved my gaze to the name tag on his table. The name written there was Mr. William Charez, with the position he occupied written under his name. “Fortunately, it isn't a joke, sir,” Alex replied. Silence slowly enveloped the whole office; no one said a single thing. I raised my head off the tag on the table to look at Mr. Wi… my father to see why he is yet to say anything. He was staring at me with a stern but calm expression on his face. Studying me. “So, you are my daughter, my little baby girl, Stasha,” he said with a slightly emotional tone, but there was still a hint of disbelief there.Like he was struggling to believe that I am actually his daughter. I won't really blame him; if I were in his shoes, I would have failed to believe also if someo

Davina. Ga-dump That right there was the sound of my heart as I took my first step into the gigantic building owned by the family occupying the top spot in the business world and have been unrivaled for years. Alexander slipped both of his hands and took steady, easy steps filled with confidence, compared to my steps that might look elegant from the outside, but on a closer look, someone who pays attention to details would notice that it's all an act. “This is my parents that I am on my way to see; they are the least people I should be nervous around,”Those are the exact words I keep telling myself to feel more at home as I pass through the people occupying the lobby. Different heads bowed in greeting as we walked past. I am pretty sure that the greetings weren't directed to me but to the person walking confidently beside me. He was used to being bowed to by people of the high caliber that occupied the lobby. “I thought your legs would be shaky when you stepped into the lobby,

Davina. We both got ready in less than thirty minutes and got on the way immediately. My briefcase sat in the boot of the car while I occupied the front passenger seat, with Alex behind the wheel. Alex. If you had asked me last night if I would have ever addressed him as Alex after he told me his name, the answer I would have given would have been a negative one.I had no intention of addressing him by a short form of his name or if I would ever see him again casually. The only thing that was in my mind that would have brought us together again would have to be nothing other than business. “So, now that you know about how most of my life had played out, don't you think it would be fair for me to know how most of yours, or at least a little of it, had played out?” I asked, breaking the silence that had enveloped the car and had made the journey to my real parent's home boring as fuck. Maybe it wasn't their house we were headed to at the moment, but anywhere that is.“You have to

Davina I couldn’t help but think about how differently my life would have played out if I hadn’t gotten lost that fateful day. I wouldn’t have had to meet with the Stewarts family, wouldn’t have had to endure the hell I went through at the hands of the person who I had called mother throughout my childhood. I wouldn’t have had to endure getting bossed around by someone who I had seen as my younger sister. The pains I had to go through the past few years were crazy. I wouldn’t have met with the Campbell family, not to talk of falling in love with their first son; I would have been so out of reach for him. Someone Sebastian can only admire from a distance but doesn’t have any chance of bonding with at all. I could have had a better life where I would be treated like I should be, like the daughter of a wealthy family that I am. I could have had to bond with actual friends and fallen in love with a wonderful gentleman, not the shitty hell I had been put through and had to endure for

Davina“The same Charez family that I know of?” I questioned. “Yes, the popular Charez family,” he answered with a tone filled with sincerity. But no matter how sincere he sounded. I still found it hard to believe what he was saying; there is no way I am the daughter of such a wealthy, heavily influential, and powerful family. I shook my head in disbelief. “You are wrong; you got the wrong person.”The Charez family is so great that even my family and my ex-husband’s family pale in comparison and have been looking up to them. To them the Charez family was out of reach and in a position that even if they remained stagnant and stopped increasing their wealth for decades, the Stewarts and my ex-husband’s family would still be unable to reach them no matter how hard they worked. But to other families, the Stewarts family was out of reach for them and in a position they would only dream of for decades, and yet the Charez family was exactly that way to the Stewarts family. That just goe

Davina“Which family are you from again?” Alexander asked while assisting me with setting up my stuff. I had decided to lodge in the hotel temporarily while still looking for a house to rent or buy in the city. I had plans to meet up with who was supposed to help me with that later today and let her know the kind of houses I prefer. “The Stewarts,” I answered with a sigh. I really do not have any intention of answering the questions he was asking, but it was not like I had any other choice. Since I wanted to be done with setting it up as quickly as possible, I needed Alexander’s help, and he said the only way he would help me with that is if I answer at least seventy of the questions he has to satisfy his curiosity.“I can swear that I’ve never heard of them before,” Alexander replied with a blank expression. “That is quite surprising; they are quite an influential family also,” I replied and stretched my hand forward, pointing at a particular thing. “Can you help me pass that?”
