After having breakfast, showering and then changing into the dress Ezekiel had brought for her, Ivory was ready to leave.
She retrieved her phone from the nightstand where Gadreel had told her Ezekiel left it, and took a quick glance at it.
The home screen was filled with several calls and messages from Emma and Carlos, mostly Emma.
Ah, she knew Emma would have been worried this much, after all, she was on the phone with her when it all happened.
Clicking on one of the missed call, she presses the phone to her ear and waited for Emma to pick.
“Ivory!” The worries voice of her best friend sounded in her ear only a few seconds later.
“Oh my God, are you okay? Did anything happen to you? Are you harmed at all?” She bombarded Ivory with questions.
“No, I’m fine. I’m not hurt and…” She hesitated before saying the last part. “Not happened to me.”
It wasn’t a tot
The drive back to her house, surprisingly so, was shorter than she had anticipated. As Ezekiel pulled into the familiar streets of her residence, Ivory recalled that she had to reach out to Lucien. After thanking Ezekiel and stepping out of the car, she pulled out her phone and called Lucien. As usual, the phone only rang for a few seconds, before it was answered.“Lucien, hey,” She called out. “Are you still at the hospital?”The other end of the line was silent for a little while, but when a response came, Ivory frowned.“No, I’m not.” His voice sounded…close. She looked up and was surprised to see him sitting on the stairs of her porch.“Oh God,” she muttered in fright, before chuckling. “You startled me.”As she ended the call and pocketed her device, she approached him.“What are you doing here? The doctor said you weren’t me
After Ivory had left, Gadreel saw no use in staying in this house again. But rather than returning home, he went straight to Opal heights after receiving a call from Asher. As soon as he walked into their usual VIP room, he was bombarded by questions.“How is she? Did you manage to find her? Is she safe?” Asher asked, eagerly, and if not for the fact that he had helped him in finding Ivory, Gadreel would have suspected that his friend had a crush on her.But knowing him, he knew that wasn’t the case, he was just concerned.“She’s fine,” Gadreel answered, taking his seat and reaching for a glass of drink, but immediately opted for a glass of water. “I found her and she’s safe.”“Thank goodness.” Asher said and right around that time, the door to their VIP room opened and a third party walked in.All head turned in his direction and Asher seemed pleasantly surprised while Gadree
After the not so helpful meet up with Cameron and Asher, Gadreel had returned home.Thankfully, Evangeline wasn’t lingering around and after sending Jennifer away, he retired to his study and pulled out the folder that his private investigator has given him a while back.He had refused to look at it ever since then, but now, he had a feeling that looking at it, would help solve the conflict that was brewing within him.So, bracing himself, Gadreel pulled out the contents of the folder, going mainly for the information that has been gathered on Evangeline. He made It through the first page, the picture he had seen before and proceeded to the second. This one wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, explaining in details the thinks Evangeline has done when she was aboard and briefly, the things she had done after Returning. He was about to flip to the next page when something caught his eyes. It was another picture, a recent one with E
The next few days passed by uneventfully. With Lucien constantly hovering over her, Ivory didn’t have the chance to get herself involved in her usual shenanigans, which honestly, she was okay with.It wasn't like she was dying to get involved. But after three days of constant babying from Lucien, Ivory couldn’t help, but grow annoyed. She had things to do, missions to complete, people to speak to, and Lucien wasn’t giving her any space. So today, she decided to change things up. So, first thing in the morning, before he could even come to pick her like the past few days, Ivory was already out of the house, ready for work.Except, she wasn’t going to work. She had stepped out with one agenda, getting across to Annabelle Mendez.Lucien wanted to do that exact same thing, but as he had been hit by a fucking car, she had taken the liberty of handling that part. So, with that, she had spent the whole morning, running around, trying to track down the woman and when she finally did, it was a
Ivory was speechless for the better half of the time since she had walked into the Cafe, trying to wrap her head around why Lucien was here."Lucien," She began, taking a step forward. "What...what are you doing here?""I came to meet up with Mrs. Mendez," Lucien said as he stood up and approached her, standing a few feet away from her. "I contacted her a few days ago, apologizing for not being able to make it to our previous meeting and to, set up a new one. And today happened to be that day." He explained, but Ivory couldn't help but frown.Huh, she thought. Didn't Annabelle say that Lucien had never contacted her. Did she lie to her and if so, why did she do that?"Mrs. Mendez," Ivory was about to take her up on that little thought of hers, question her, but much to her dismay, Lucien stepped in front of her, blocking her line of vision."I answered your question, V, why not answer mine. Why are you here? This isn't the company, now is it?""Well, I had a few things to do around th
The ride to Elixiron felt longer than it should have been thanks to the earlier interaction and as they stepped out of the car, Lucien was about to apologize for that, but the words died on the top of his tongue and his gaze immediately darkened.Ivory frowned at this, but when she looked in the direction of where he was staring at, she immediately understood why.Standing in front of Elixiron, resting against his car, was Gadreel. And the frown that creased his face when he spotted them together, was evident."What is he doing here?" Lucien asked. Unlike before when he hid the distaste in his tone, he didn't bother this time around, making it known that Gadreel's presence disturbed him."I...I have no clue." Ivory said with a frown, which only deepened when Gadreel started approaching them."Ivory," He greeted her, acknowledging her presence, yet totally ignoring Lucien as he kept his gaze focused on her.The other man, noticing this, couldn't help but silently chuckle. Gadreel Ødega
The drive to the hospital was a silent one, no one said a word, and although Gadreel occasionally glanced at her, he sais nothing and neither did she.So the silence remained until the last moment."We're here," Gadreel announced once they had pulled up at the hospital's parking lot. They both got out of the car and headed for the entrance, walking down the hallway and to the ward where Lionel was.As they were nearing the ward, Evangeline, who was standing a few feet away, came into their vision. She spotted them almost immediately and rushed to their side, no more accurately, she was rushing to Gadreel's side, when she spotted Ivory and stopped."What...what is she doing here?" She questioned, glaring hard at her stepsister."Evangeline," Gadreel called out in a somewhat warning tone. "We're at a hospital."Evangeline was mortified and upset over Gadreel's words. Since when...no, there was no use asking that question.Gadreel had been acting weird the past few days. When it started,
Sitting still and quiet to the sound of beeping hospital machines, Ivory's mind replayed all that had just happened in the hallway and she frowned. It hadn't been in her head, she wasn't hallucinating, Gadreel had indeed changed. At first, she couldn't quite put her hand on what had changed, but now, she was sure it was his attitude, not just towards her, but towards Evangeline. It was like...the tables had turned. Why was this? She wondered. Was it because Gadreel wanted something? The essence of oblivion? Her medical expertise?Or...The dream she had a few months back flashed in her mind and her grip around her dress tightened.Had he found out that she was Arnett? If that was the case, was he simply trying to curry favor with her, or has he finally remembered her?Just the thought of that alone, lit up a single stick of matches, in the form of hope, in her heart. But as quickly as it had been lit, Ivory put it out. She didn't want to give herself hope, that would only be a foolish
The quietness in the car settled quickly. Or perhaps, that was what Ivory thought it was. In reality, Gadreel had been saying words. His lips moved, he threw occasional glances at her, but Ivory far too deep in her own head to respond.“Ivory, did you hear me?”At the mention of her name, Ivory blinked, slowly and turned her head towards the source of the voice.Gadreel. She realized and slowly, she nodded her head. “Yes,” She replied, softly, almost weak. “You asked, if I’m okay.”“And, are you?” His voice was probing. There was a soft encouragement behind it, ensuring her that if she needed to speak or pour her heart out, he was here, willing and ready to listen.Ivory took a second longer to answer this time around. Was she okay? She really didn’t know how she felt. She had feelings roaming her chest, clashing against each other and the prominent urge to scream, was ever so present.Yet, all of those things made her feel numb. Like it was all too much, the betrayal, disgust, disapp
The dread- thick and crippling to its core, settled upon Ivory like a thick impenetrable veil, as she realized the error she had just committed. She had messed up.The reality, a cruel reminded that she had thrown away her final chance at get out of this whole ordeal, was like a hard pill to swallow.Breath hitching, her thoughts quickly spiraled down a self deprecating path, a path where she wondered if this was all part of some divine punishment.Had she angered the gods, the heavens, or maybe, the universe itself?Because no matter how much she wanted, she could never catch a break. The universe was hellbent on keeping her in a loop of never ending pain and sorrow. Otherwise, one couldn’t explain to her, after how, only just losing her father, she ends up in a situation like this and when freedom seems on the tip of her finger, she had easily thrown it away in a fit of fear and adrenaline fuel trembles.Fucking hell, she cursed internally, eyes darting towards Lucien’s still uncons
Ivory dashed for the door with her full speed, but, Lucien had predicted her moves. In no time, he was in front of her, and she was thrown onto the couch, her breath escaping her momentarily.“Ivory,” He called, but she quickly kicked him, aiming for his crotch, but he had seen it coming and easily avoided it, his hand grabbing her leg and throwing it away.“Don’t misbehave.” He warned, pinning her down to the couch, but she continued to struggle, kicking and thrashing until her finally grabbed her hands and pinned them down above her head, his face close to hers.“Behave, or I swear to God, I’ll really kill him.” This threat, unlike his previous ones, carried a lot of weight, and it had caused Ivory to freeze. Her eyes were wide and her breaths were harsh, as her heart continued to race. She had come to know, in the past few days, that Lucien was a crazy person, he had made a few threats, done things that shook her and ultimately said things that made her realize how stupid she was f
“Mr. Ødegaar?”Gadreel was in the middle of watching his tracking software load the last location of Ivory’s phone, something he particularly wouldn’t have done under normal circumstances, but with the way things were looking like and the sinking feeling in his stomach, he was more than ready to do something like this to make sure Ivory was okay. That was, until the sudden appearance of his assistant, broke through his thoughts and the insistent tapping of his index finger against the table.Followed by a knock, Ezekiel had walked into his office, carrying with him, a box that Gadreel dimmed ugly, the very second he laid his eyes on it.“What is it?” He asked and looked down at the box. “And what is that?”“I’m just as confused, Sir. A garbage man stopped by and insisted that this belonged to you. A letter was left for you, he said.” Ezekiel explained, placing the box on the table and carefully sliding it to his boss when he had gotten close enough. After a few seconds of staring at t
Looking at his phone, Gadreel frowned. The call earlier, had it been a fluke? Was he meant to feel better now that she had called him? But, why did she call him and then hang up immediately? And the messages he sent, why hasn’t he responded to them?Sighing, Gadreel massaged his pained Temple. He could feel that migraine coming on, and if there was one thing he didn’t need right now, was a migraine.Pushing those thoughts to the back of his mind, he walked towards his desk, his fingers typing in the password and logging into his laptop.Something really wasn’t adding up and he was going to get down to the bottom of it.~•~Four hours after the whole ordeal that had happened, Ivory stepped out of her room. She was in a new dress, but, despite that, her mind was still stuck on the previous incident. As a matter of fact, her entire being was.Even though he didn’t actually do anything, she was still shaken, and the fact that the door was locked and she was unable to leave, was making it
“…you don’t need to tell me what I already know,” Lucien didn’t mean to sound rude, but with his mother being on the other side of the line, hounding down on him about how he needed to get Ivory to see things from their perspective as soon as next week, was making it hard for him not to snap. “You’ve told me this plenty of times, now.”“Don’t speak like that,” His mother reprimanded. “This is important. I believe I’ve given you enough time to do the needful and I’m beginning to run out of patience, my time is almost up. So, this is your last warning, get the girl on our side, or I’ll do it by myself.”Without waiting for an answer, she hung up the phone, leaving Lucien to sigh out loudly. What a wonderful way to ruin the start of his day, he thought, turning and exiting the balcony, only to find that Ivory was no longer where he had left her.He looked in the direction of the living room, her second most seen place, then in the kitchen, finding no trace of her.His brows furrowed and
After spending two days in his house, Ivory had come to the realization that there was no way of getting that door open on her own.She had tried several things; banging, kicking, pushing, punching, setting a makeshift fire to trigger the fire setting and even trying to use items that Lucien had touched to recreate his finger print, but, nothing had worked. All of them were useless.Sighing, Ivory rested her forehead against the surface of the door, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath.“This is hopeless,” She muttered. She was trapped here, wasn’t she? There was no way out.Her phone, was with Lucien. She had nothing. What should she do?“Ivory.”The sudden voice, had caused her heart to stop momentarily. Turning around, she saw him, leaning against the doorway.“What are you doing?”Ivory had to keep herself from frowning. He had asked her the same thing the previous day, and she had responded with the exact same words.“Trying to open the door.”“I can see that,” Lucien said,
“The number you’re trying to call, is currently-“The automated voice hadn’t gotten the chance to finish it’s message, before Gadreel hung up the phone.Still switched off? He wondered, frowning down at his call history that showed the number of times he had called Ivory.25 calls and 13 messages. That was the amount, and none of them had been answered.Frown deepening, he ran his fingers through his hair, his brows furrowing further.Something didn’t feel right. He couldn’t pinpoint the reason, or explain it, but his intuition was telling him, that something was off.Ivory wouldn’t just stand him up, or ignore his calls and messages for two whole days. In the past, sure, he would have agreed that she was capable of doing it.But now, things had changed between them. He could tell she was no longer as cold as she previously was to him. And even though she hadn’t completely forgiven him for the things he did, she had at least, decided to try and put the past behind her.So, this, this
Ivory woke up the following morning…to an awfully familiar remake of her bedroom back from when she still stayed with Doctor Elias.Witnessing it was so startling, that she shot up from the bed, a frown of confusion marring the space between her brows. What the hell was happening?!Last night, she had fallen asleep on the couch, but now, she was back in a room, her room, that was almost identical to her previous one, except the windows were barred, and there were no mirrors. And the fact that the entire room was a bit smaller than her original one, only added to her confusion. So, how did she end up here?Wasn’t she supposed to be on the couch, in the living room, trapped in Lucien’s house?“Ah, you’re awake.”The sound of Lucien’s voice, had caused her head to snap in his direction and she immediately frowned. He was leaning against the doorway, dressed in a pair of jeans and a white, long sleeved dress shirt. His arms were crossed, and the sleeves of his shirt had been rolled up, le
