Zoe's heart skipped a breath, and she let out a soft gasp, because she had not expected to see him there. Yes, they were business partners to everyone. But, between both of them, they knew it was more than that.

As crazy as it sounded, it was true that they shared the same bedroom. As insane as it was, she was his supposed fianceé whom no one knew about. As normal as it should be, she didn't want to see him at the moment when she was supposed to be away from everyone who knew her so much.

‘Shit! Why was he here?!’ A frown framed her face instantly, knowing what he was definitely capable of if he saw her. She didn't even want to speak to him.

The instant plan was to retreat away from where he might see her since he had people still talking about his presence, and she tactically sidled away from those she was sharing light conversations with before he arrived, hoping to blend into the crowd and avoid his gaze or attention at all means.

However, it was too late. Malcolm had already s

“What are you doing here, Martin? I didn't expect to see you,” Zoe gasped softly, her eyes widened in surprise and a sweet smile curving her lips to see him there. “To surprise you,” his left eye winked at her before he stretched his hands out to give her a hug, and then planted a friendly kiss on the cheek. Her delicious scent clung to his nostrils and munched on his mind, that it took him willpower to separate so easily from her after a few seconds. He wanted them to stay longer like that. “Be serious. Are you close to the host or something?” Her questioning eyes were on him, still in awe of suddenly seeing him at the party that she reluctantly attended just to fulfill all righteousness. Seeing him in a white tuxedo which clung to his muscle-toned body that made him look so perfect, was different from the usual plain tees and pants he usually wore. It made her see him in a different light. “Something like that,” he chuckled, as he took her right hand unconsciously in his, which

“Why are you in my skin, Malcolm?! Why are you trying to be rude to my friend?!” Zoe yelled at Malcolm the moment they got to a corner far from the banquet hall which she felt was secure enough. Her eyes took time to look around and study if there was no one coming or no cameras around, before she pulled him into another segregated hallway that led to a private balcony. “That is your friend? The one you have been talking to since all these days?” Malcolm spoke as soon as he saw that she was done checking over and over again to be sure no one had followed them. In a way, it pained his heart to see if that was how badly she wanted no one to know that they were nothing but business partners. Weren't they what they really were?“Yeah? Is that a problem?” She cocked a derisive brow at him, her guts patiently waiting for him to utter any word out of place so she would set a boundary immediately. ‘Trying to pretend like they would always be on good terms was harder than she thought!’ Z

Martin stood in his expansive, eccentric kitchen behind the countertop with an apron neatly tied to his waist, while chopping a big purple onion on a wooden chopping board, his hand moving fast with precision and accuracy even without looking. He had been cutting, dicing, chopping, and shredding vegetables for the past few minutes since he arrived home, and as much as he wanted to keep the badgering thoughts in his head out of mind by suddenly cooking something. However, he could not. His mind was consumed by thoughts of Zoe, who had captured his heart with her effortless grace and charm right from the moment he knew her, and her relationship with Malcolm Meyer, whose collaboration with her company saved her from answering the sudden rumor about her mental state. He couldn't just understand what was going on. Martin had always been so worried about her ever since he knew her, and always wanted to help her even if she seemed to have it all. When he suddenly lost contact with her fo

Seated behind the reserved table in the corner of a five-star hotel’s exclusive restaurant with the best view of the city scenery, was Zoe, sitting calmly with sophistication and poise, flipping through a copy of the RADIANCE magazine, while waiting patiently for her guest to arrive. Soft classical music played in the background filling the air with a great vibrance, one which she hummed to at intervals, without even realizing that she subconsciously knew the lyrics. She was waiting for the guy that she was supposed to meet at the party who didn't show up until it was over because of some silly excuse his brother had given on his behalf. A date was set almost immediately for them to meet properly without any form of interruption, and Zoe had surprisingly agreed to go when Gary informed her without putting up a fight. It was to seal an agreement between both of them. Once she went on a blind date and met the young man, she was not going to others, and was still not coming home eithe

“Did you not do a background check on me before coming here? You should know that much already,” A malicious smirk twisted Marcel's lips as he flashed Zoe a contemptuous look, “Since you came you must have quite an ambition to have come here today, I should at least give you an answer,” he continued, his gorgeous greenish blue eyes gazing at her. “I get that you are a very wealthy heiress, but it does not matter to me because you are still one of those elite women I meet all the time, who need the perfect men to complete their sides. I will not be the one for you though,” he grabbed the champagne that was brought by the waiter in an instant, popped it, and poured the contents into his wine glass aggressively before chugging down the contents. ‘Goodness! This guy was begging to be treated so badly by her. Just how would she end this nicely without having to ruin her agreement with her grandfather? She could not risk going on another date again!’ Zoe groaned inwardly, finding it so h

Zoe was seated in front of her favorite dresser while endlessly staring at her phone, a weary sigh escaping her lips again for the nth time the more she thought of how things had been getting more sluggy. She had been overwhelmed with feelings and emotions that seemed quite too much for her to handle, after a headache and sudden memory hit her after she left her blind date the previous day. The sharp image had pierced through the fog of her lost memories, and she saw herself standing in a dining room that felt strangely familiar. She was staring at Irina's menacing face which was twisted with anger with saddened eyes glistening wet with tears, whose hand reached out and struck her hard across the face with a force that made her stagger, as following harsh words she had heard behind the back of her mind haunted her so much with fear, leaving her insanely disturbed. “You foolish good-for-nothing girl! Your wretched family just wants to feed on my son's wealth while using a worthless

Zoe's heart skipped a beat for a few seconds as soon as her eyes came in contact with the metallic, cold safe staring at her, she stretched her hand slowly to touch its imposing edges, only for it to beep out and display a digital keypad, the numbers faintly illuminated. She took a moment to think through her mind about the most possible combinations, which included the birthdays, anniversaries, and significant dates of the family members that she could think of. The ones she had dutifully learned after losing her memory. She tried Irina's birthday first, but it was with an instant denial as the lock blinked a red light, indicating that it was a wrong code. Then she moved next to Isla's own, then Ivy's, and Malcolm's, and tried everything she could think of, but it was the same. Even if she knew that Irina would definitely not use combinations as predictable as anything regarding her family, Zoe still wanted to give it a shot, considering that the six-digit code gave a hint that it

The mansion's private kitchen was filled with the aroma of perfectly made sauces, sizzling meat on a table-sized griller, and catfish being toasted in the oven, everything coming together to make one's mouth water. Zoe stood in front of one of the kitchen countertops as she carefully poured the finely chopped cabbage in a bowl into the pot of stew she was making, while Audrey, who was standing beside her stirred calmly as she was taught, her heart leaping with joy to see that she was doing something well. However, she didn't notice how absent-minded Zoe had been since she joined her in the kitchen, because she had been too engrossed in her joy of making so many improvements in cooking, to notice the anxiety that was etched upon her company's face. Zoe's head had been a mess ever since she entered the kitchen because she promised to teach Audrey before she started work again, and her thoughts kept drifting back to the unsettling discovery she had made just minutes earlier which she

Despite the seeping feeling of cold air into the atmosphere in the office of the CEO of the RINASHONE art gallery, it did nothing to ease the storm that was brewing in Isla's heart, who sat slouched against her chair. Her eyes which had been narrowed by a disdainful glare stared again at the chart that was before her, and she could not help but scrunch up her face the more she read those numbers before her. ‘Ridiculous!’ She almost scoffed, ‘The gallery’s earnings for the month were barely enough. Barely enough!’ her eyes glanced through the pile of invoices again, and then glared at the final figure. “This is not good. Not nearly enough,” she muttered spitefully, the more she thought of her debts which loomed over her like a noose. The ones that had given her sleepless nights because somehow there was nowhere she could have pulled the funds from. Isla leaned back in her chair and gritted her teeth angrily, thinking of how the numbers were still low with the exhibition they held an

The bright lights of the city shone against the tinted windows of the car that drove through the highways of the city, but it didn't do anything to catch the attention of the man who sat back in the backseat of his luxurious car, while rubbing his temples absently with one another. As he remained mute without uttering anything all through the journey back home which was unlike his usual self, his mind momentarily flashed back to the event that happened earlier that day, as he steamed with the remnant of his frustration. It was the second time he had a face-to-face conversation with her. He had stormed into her mall straight from work with his pulse hammering with frustration without even thinking too much about it, the moment he realized that yet again, there was no reply. He was so pissed. For days, she had ignored his email. And when he was told that she asked him to be let inside at once, he was quite taken. He had expected that she would prove so difficult so that he would be ab

Her shortcomings. That had been her concern all afternoon. Not the great news Hepzy went back and forth about. Rather than the joy and excitement that usually came with it, she just felt relieved. Relieved that she was doing well. She wasn't happy about it. There was nothing to be joyful about. As she sat at her desk surrounded by neatly stacked reports and a laptop screen glowing with financial projections before her, the numbers stared back at her. Poor and unproductive in her dictionary. As much as it looked impossible, she had always aimed for every venture she had mapped out in the mall. It wasn't just a mall. It was an empire. The one that billions had been finished off on, and it would end up swallowing more if poured into it. Pulling off something that huge had taken so much willpower and mental strength even if every social psychology quotient of hers was always fluctuating. The ice skating rink and the luxury car exhibition space were doing the lowest. 8% returns was all

The faint aroma of herbal tea lingered in the air of the office, where Zoe sat uprightly behind her table, with her poised demeanor betraying no sign of the turmoil that had lingered over her for the past few days even till the night before.Across from her, Zara, who was holding a notepad clutched to her chest, continued to stare at her so overtly, while wondering what kind of woman she was. “You have been watching me like a hawk,” Zoe, whose gaze was fixated on what she was looking at on the tablet that was before her, “Spill it.”Zara hesitated before speaking, as she stared at her, with a concerned expression, “I don't want you to say I bother too much, but I really cannot help but be so worried. I mean you suddenly made me book a flight after the launching, and then left. You came back and told no one. You came in looking so sick and pale, and now you are doing so much work already. It was so dark in the night already, and barely anything could be heard around the estate anymore except the branches of trees moving in the movement of the wind, and the sound of crickets that buzzed amidst the gardens that were around. Malcolm was seen returning to Zoe's house after he had left many minutes ago, with big bags in his hands as he made his way to the front of her mansion. Slipping in through the front door now that he knew its password, he stepped in casually and locked the door behind it. Since he left the other inner door that led to the living room open without closing it when he left earlier, it was easier to just enter on tiptoe without disrupting her. Catching a sight of her still sleeping on the couch in her living room, he dropped the bag he was carrying on the cold, marbled floor, and walked over to her side to feel her temperature. He noticed that she was still burning with a fever. Carefully, Malcolm carried her the same way he had done the previous day,

Malcolm had stood by the window of his mansion all evening after returning from work, with his fingers tapping idly at the corners of it which he had never noticed before, but was as sparkly as ever because the cleaning services that usually cleaned his house were perfect at their job. His eyes had fixed on the road outside as he waited restlessly, with his thoughts sinking into a tangled mess of concern and yearning for the woman he had been bothered about more than ever all day because of the articles that were published. And just at the moment when his eyes caught the sight of a car which rolled into view and drove past his mansion, his heart skipped in relief, before he instantly turned away from the window and hurried out. ‘She was back.’He walked fast, and even almost ran, hoping that he would be able to still meet her outside before she entered her house. In the opposite direction, her car drove past him as he walked, and he didn't even mind anything apart from her. His ey

“Please can you listen to me first?” Zoe instantly stood up from her seat and stepped forward in desperation, as her fingers curled slightly the moment she stretched her hand in an attempt to reach her, but dared not touch. Upon hearing her voice laced with desperation and a hint of something she couldn't make out, Jasmine halted on her steps, before she turned her face sharply. A sharp, bitter laugh escaped her lips, as she stared at Zoe's face, with a surfeit amount of emotions rushing through her at once, causing her to almost stumble on words, “If you are here to ask me about us, then I have nothing to say,” her voice trembled, “Did she say anything about me? Did she ask you to meet me? Her eyes burned with so much pain. With a heavy heart, Zoe spoke, unable to meet her eyes, “I am more interested in your side of the story, not Emily's,” she clarified.“What?” Jasmine's brow jumped in a high arch of astonishment, as she tried to make out the meaning of what she was saying, “Wha

An unease settled in Malcolm Meyer’s chest as he leaned back in his office chair, with his left fingers idly tapping against the polished wood of his desk, while his right hand incessantly tugged at the collar of his shirt that continued to feel clammy against his skin. He had barely slept the night before because sleep evaded him, and as a result of anxiety which clung to the darkest corners of his mind that were entangled in the thoughts of her. When he arrived home the day before earlier than he usually did because he was bothered, and hoped that Zoe would be home by then already, he noticed that the lights to her mansion had been off. It was not the usual ‘one’ light on, and the rest ‘off’ he usually noticed whenever he was home before he even knew she lived there. This time, it was completely off. There was darkness everywhere around her mansion, and it was unlike her. ‘Had she even come home at all?’ He wondered endlessly in his heart, seriously bothered that he didn't see h

“We met months ago at the oak tree in Montauk, when I was talking to your mother, Mrs. Carras,” Zoe quickly said while trying to jog up her memory, hoping she would remember, “I said she told me something, but you said there was no way she might repeat it even if it was true,” she quickly added as she stared at her eagerly, seeing that Jasmine was still finding it hard to remember. She also wanted to mention the fact that they had met before that too. That they had met the moment she gave birth to her twenty five years ago. That she had longed for her so much thinking she was dead. “Oh!” She finally remembered, and Zoe instantly heaved a sigh of relief, finally letting go of the breath she didn't realize she was holding, “I think I remember you now. Sorry for not realizing. I have a lot on my mind,” she quickly apologised.“I heard your mother died. I’m sorry,” Zoe quickly offered condolences, her heart somehow breaking so much at the flash realization that Mrs. Carras, who was dead
