"Get out of my fucking face!" Zoe yelled at Malcolm as she head-butted him so hard, and the unexpected blow collectively struck different strange nerves in his body as they all tried to process the intensity of the pain.

He took a step back instantly as his body instinctively retreated as a defensive response, and his hand held his nose firmly like it would prevent the pain from spreading.

Blood drained from his face as he felt a red liquid trickle down the skin beneath his nose, and his hand caught it just in time before it splashed on the floor. He blinked rapidly as he tried to clear the fog of disbelief that clouded his vision, that Zoe had hit him so hard in that manner.

"What?!" His lips found the instant words he could use to express his shock, while alternating touching his nose and looking at his blood-smeared hand, in great disbelief that it actually came from his breathing holes.

"What? You've never had a nosebleed?" Zoe remarked with a scowl, when she observed the kind

"Scumbag jerk!" Zoe cursed under her breath, as she scuttled away after signaling to the kid, who helped her out of the bathroom without getting noticed by the nurse. After she had lied about wanting to go to the bathroom, she began to think of possible ways in which she could escape out of the hospital without getting caught. When she thought of the window, she knew she would end her own life if she tried jumping down from the top floor. And just when she thought there was nothing she could do after spying on the nurses for minutes, she saw a young girl that entered the bathroom shortly after she did by herself, who she deemed rude at first sight. "Are you trying to steal something?" She heard the tiny voice behind her which made her turn sharply, only to see a small cute girl with big, round eyes standing before her. "What? Steal?" She scrunched up her face at the little girl, wondering how old she was and who let her into the bathroom without assistance, "Mind your business, l

It had been days since Erin's death was announced, and it seemed like nothing had happened. Zoe had returned to work after a two-day break that was taken under a health rest, and the only person that seemed to know was Zara. Ever since she had gotten the news, she had not been the same person that she was. The pain in her heart grew each day like a relentless tide that pulled her into despair."I am sorry for your loss, Ms Zoe. I really am," Zara said to her apologetically when she appeared at the office earlier than she had expected her to. Maybe those words made her sadder, or they gave her hope that someone cared. Zoe could not even figure it out. She just nodded thankfully and made her way into her office, solemnly and languidly. Gary helped to make arrangements for the burial at a private property, and she was the only one that attended the burial to pay her last respect. Though she was informed by him that Francis Sinclair asked her to take a week's break, she didn't take the

You are still around?" Zoe asked in surprise, as she saw her secretary enter into the office after knocking, when she noticed that she was up. "Yes," Zara answered with a modest smile, while observing Zoe's face closely to check for any lingering signs of fatigue. She was relieved to see that her appearance seemed better than hours ago. "But you are supposed to have clocked out about two hours ago," Zoe mentioned as her eyes darted to the wall clock again to be sure that she had seen the time properly the moment she had just woken up. "Yes. I wanted to make sure you were awake before I left," she answered, offering a polite smile. "Oh my! Oh my! I'm sorry for keeping you waiting," Zoe apologized instantly. She couldn't understand the magnitude of this lady's care for her. 'Was it purely out of duty? Or was something else attached?' Zoe wondered in her heart. "No problem at all. It is my job," Zara added instantly, feeling burdened that Zoe was being so well-mannered and warm, u

"Did you guys hear that Zoe's grandmother is dead?" Audrey broke the silence at the dining table during breakfast. "Who cares that the sickly woman is finally gone anyway?" Ivy replied to her with heavy sarcasm, wondering why Audrey was suddenly choosing to talk about Zoe. For many days, they had not talked about anything particular at the dining table, except having the most chaotic arguments Ivy and Isla usually had. Everyone had pretty much gone back to their lives, even if it had not remained the same as the past. "It is a pity how unfortunate she is. She has no one by her side, and has always been so unlucky. Only her attended the burial. Even her supposed grandfather didn't," Audrey told them again, not minding if they were not interested in replying to her. She had been so interested in everything about Zoe and had been watching the way she acted, so that the crazy wheel of misfortune would not end up stopping at her name again. "Are you stalking her enough to know such a

Zoe had it the same at the office the next day, except with a little change that her afternoon had brought more peace than she ever thought she would find while working. Her secretary, Zara, seemed to have a new joke to tell her which was more fun than the previous ones, and she wanted her to try a new vegetable drink that she learned online too. Though there was barely enough time to make all that happen because of Zoe's busy schedule, she was grateful that someone truly made an effort to make her happy. Towards evening, Zoe soon realized that she would be encumbered with her job at the office till late hours, and called Martin to apologize for her plan to cancel their plans to meet. However, he told her that she could finish whenever she liked and that he would wait for her. Pressured to meet as soon as possible and not waste so much of his time, she had to give up the plan to work through the night and go on with the dinner date. 'It was probably the first time someone had invi

"You should find what makes you happy, Zoe. You deserve that as someone carrying a lot of responsibilities with her," Martin finally said softly, hoping that his words would get to her. "Why are you nice to me, Martin? It is obvious from our meetings that I am a boring person, and I don't have much to offer. Well, except my money," Zoe responded. "That is not all to you, you know. You have your own charms, and I want to be your friend. I'm pretty much a boring man myself too." "I don't think you are," she defended. "Yes, I am. But I am outspoken whenever I am around people I like being with," Martin replied, with his eyes fixated on her. "So, you like being around me?" Zoe speculated with a little doubt in her voice, as cold shivers ran down her spine. The dress she had on was designed with a small sleeve, and cold seemed to be crawling up on her skin and shooting tiny swells. "Are you cold?" Martin asked, observing that she was struggling not to fold her arms around her body. "

"Grandfather! How could you ask me to do something like that?!" Zoe demanded viciously from the rigid man that was standing before her, almost choking on her words. Francis' words, which sounded like a cruel joke, hit her like a ton of bricks, and sent shockwaves of pain and disbelief through her entire being. She could not believe what he had just said. She couldn't comprehend the absurdity. "Are you being serious now, or are you just trying to pull my strings?" She asked him, her voice quivering with a mix of pain and disbelief as she gazed at the resolute expression of her grandfather. "It is best for you, and you know it. Swallow your pride and get back with him for great good, since it seems like he wants the same too. You wanted to attain unprecedented power, right? Then you sometimes have to hold hands with your enemies for a greater achievement. That is a compromise. That is how the business world works!" Francis spoke briskly with an impassive impression visibly etched

Three weeks later…… As the lady on the bed slowly blinked her eyes open, the world around her came into focus in a haze of confusion. The sterile white ceiling of the hospital room loomed overhead and flashed at her eyes, as the sounds of machines beeped endlessly in her ears, reminding her that she was still awake. A sense of disorientation washed over her as she tried hard to process what was going on, but a blockage continued to obscure her thoughts and memories, making it hard to figure out anything. As she tried to sit up, a wave of dizziness and weakness forced her back down onto the bed instantly. "Ms Zoe. You are awake," she heard someone say to her, as the figure approached her bedside with a kind smile and gentle eyes. With a confused glint dancing in her eyes which narrowed at the lady talking to her, and she wondered what the lady was talking about. But firstly, 'Who was she?' "Who are you, please?" She asked the nurse in confusion, trying to understand what was goin

A bitter smile curved Zoe’s lips, “I am sorry I have made you uncomfortable all this while. To be honest, I just really want somewhere to feel at home,” she shrugged slightly as if it was nothing, even if she was crumbling within her. “Growing up with my granny, I had a very rough life. Was bullied endlessly because I had no Mum, and was dirt poor. I worked my ass trying to get an education, but it didn't pay off because I had too many debts. Then an old man my granny knew agreed to take away my debt if I got married, so I did, hoping to escape my lowly, but it was way worse. I suffered a lot,” Zoe began to recount everything that she had been wanting to let out, at least to the very woman she desperately wanted to tell the truth to. She wanted her to know that even if Emily had been her biological Mum, she had a trashy life in the past either way. She had never truly had a family. “You.. you've been married?” Jasmine's incoherent words stumbled out of her trembling lips, as she st

“What do you mean?” Jasmine, who had been pretending not to listen to their conversation almost asked, her eyes widening in shock at what Zoe had just revealed. But Raine took the words right out of her lips before she could say it. “What? Really?” Her eyes sparked up in curiosity.Zoe shrugged lightly, as if trying to make the conversation as natural as possible, “She told me she is not my Mum.”“How?” Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “You were adopted?!” Her voice rose in speculation. “No,” Zoe laughed.More confusion crossed Raine's features, making her more puzzled than the last, “Then how? She picked you up?” “Maybe because she has lost her mind or something. She rambles on these days. That was when she told me,” she mumbled. “Lost her mind?” Raine's voice lowered in pity. “Yeah. She did pretty bad things, and I guess maybe that is her reward. She doesn't even recognize me,” Zoe laughed like it was some bad joke. Genuinely, Raine's eyes lowered in worry, as she questione

Zoe drove through the neighborhood where Jasmine lived, as she navigated through the quite complex intersection with the help of the car GPS. She had hesitantly texted the address of where she lived after she agreed to host Zoe for the dinner, and continued to contemplate in her mind if she had done the right thing. ‘She said she would end everything anyway. However, she couldn't just say to her. Not when she must be having the worst day ever, and felt like the only person she could call was her,’ Jasmine thought to justify her actions in her heart, so that she wouldn't think too much about it again. ‘It was better to end things now with one dinner than later. And besides, she said she had something to tell her too,’ the thought occurred to her again, as she began to chop vegetables on the wooden board before her. ‘What did she want to tell her though? And what did she mean by the truth? Did it have to do with herself or her mother? Her motive for appearing before her? Or why did s

The day had been so long for Zoe. She had been in meetings all day and could barely sit or take a rest. She continued to attend to PR drafts, legal briefs, and financial damage projections like she was juggling swords with bleeding hands.Calls continued to pour in from brand partners who were threatening to pull out, and their collaboration clients were threatening to sue because they were losing money too. Refunds were being processed in thousands as many canceled their orders, and things continued to spiral out of control with each passing hour. And worst of all, in the middle of the chaos, her executive assistant, Hepzy told her that someone was trying to sneak the rumor of embezzlement to major shareholders to instigate them and worsen the situation. And even the press conference she planned to hold, she canceled it, hoping everyone would understand her, but it seemed like they were coming for her head. “I am telling you, if one more refund hits our books tonight, we are tippi

“I will make this simple,” she continued smoothly, “I vote against the motion to remove Malcolm Meyer as CEO.” For a moment, no one knew what to do with that information as they tried to process it. They wondered if she had mentioned the word 80% their hearts skipping and their eyes widening, only until they processed it again in their mind. Then Arthur Cordova scoffed, realizing what she said, “She only has 8%,” he muttered, adjusting his tie, “That is nowhere near enough to overturn the decision,” he muttered, his deigning tone settling heavily into the room. Then, the board secretary cleared his throat and spoke out at the moment, “I am afraid he is right, Ms. Barclay,” he said, though his voice was more cautious now, “While your vote has been noted, the board’s majority still stands. 35% of his, 8% of yours, and 2% of one of the members seated here is still 45%,” he explained calmly. Tilting her head slightly, an unperturbed smile graced Justine's lips, as a small sigh escape

Back at the boardroom at MEL-CO headquarters, Malcolm managed to keep calm as he stood and maintained composure, with a tight smirk crossing his lips, “Well,” he drawled while loosening his tie, “This is interesting,” his voice called everyone's attention. The supposed new CEO, Greg, leaned forward while feigning concern, before he spoke “Malcolm. The board has spoken. It is nothing personal and just business. You have done your best for this company, and we truly commend you for that,” he snickered lightly. The audacity.A chuckle, low and amused escaped Malcolm as he listened to the gibberish that was spewed before him, his mind, already recalibrating, and strategizing his next move. But as his mind sped through thoughts, one question gnawed at him as his eyes swept across the room again. ‘Where are they?’ His despicable scrambled family. The ones who had been circling like vultures for years, and waiting for every chance to sink their claws into the company. The very ones that

“Oh, you think you can give me anything I want?” She had shot a mocking look at him, and laughed hysterically the moment, each intensifying by each passing minute causing Andre to stiffen in anger the more even if he struggled to hold himself while clinging tightly to the suit he was wearing. “Giving me what I want is not something you can do, Andre Meyer,” she suddenly got angry.“Then why are you threatening me?!” He demanded, unable to suppress what he was feeling, “You must want something, don't you?” Isla sighed dramatically, as if expecting him to ask her that, as she leaned back tiredly, “I would not have come this far if Mum treated both of us equally anyway,” she spoke calmly as if trying to savor the intensity of her words, “But seeing you paranoid makes me happy,” she chuckled. “You are evil!” He blurted lividly. “Is that so?” She laughed, as she suddenly began to waltz carefully around the room, her fingers brushing through the tip of everything unnecessary, “I want

Still lost in thought back at RINASHONE gallery, Isla's lips curled into a slow, wicked smile as the echoes of that delicious moment replayed like a favorite melody, the moment blood drained from her brother's face when she mentioned his nemesis. “Yes, you bloodthirsty fool! You murdered your wife, and just had to ruin my plans, did you not? Or do I have to remind you?!” she had yelled at his face. ‘Oh, how she wished she had captured his expression on camera. The way he went pale, and struggled to pretend like he didn't understand what she was saying. The delight he had given her when she taunted him more after sensing the quick, almost imperceptible stiffening of his shoulders.’ She loved how her unexpected accusation had struck him like a whip, and how he blinked rapidly, his throat working as he tried to force a denial past his dry lips, as if he had misheard. His entirety had trembled with the shock of his life, and his eyes widened astonishingly, when he struggled to h

Meanwhile, at the MEL-CO headquarters company that morning, every worker scrambled quietly to get to the main building to clock in for the day with their employee’s card, where they could stuff themselves into the elevator and get to their respective offices before their working hours for the day would begin. Inside the private elevator which led instantly to the CEO's office was Malcolm standing without a word, and beside him was Edward, who was shuffling through a neatly organized tablet of notes, completely unaware of the storm awaiting them as the elevator went up with the speed of light. Reaching the top floor of the office building, the elevator doors slid open with a quiet dinger, and Malcolm stepped out, his polished leather shoes blending with a silent click against the marble floor. He was dressed in an impeccable dark navy blue suit, which perfectly complemented the crisp white shirt beneath, and the black tie that knotted his neck. Expecting to see the usual bustling
