It has been two weeks since Zoe left, and the difference in the ambiance around the Meyers mansion was evidently palpable. The maids had returned to their post as usual trying to catch up with everything they had left for so long, and things became difficult because there were barely enough hands to handle all the jobs at once.
It had them all wondering endlessly, how Zoe had managed to juggle everything by herself at once. It was difficult. The chefs had been unable to prepare meals to suit everyone's palate and taste buds, and they could not afford to set the table as early as Zoe cooked all meals because of the difference in everyone's preference. The maids that were hired hastily in a few days to cover up for the job, had broken almost all the precious glassware collections in the kitchen. There was always too much confusion in one morning, with vicious rages flying around from every member of the family, and the maids to be the receiving end of every complaint. They had no clue where Zoe purchased the groceries used in the kitchen, and the order in which she got everyone ready for work daily according to their schedules. Aaron had missed school four days in a row because they always forgot to set his alarm, and Irina, the matriarch of the family had not had her favorite desert in days because the chefs didn't get the perfect taste of what she wanted. There was too much anger to deal with from everyone since she left! In the living room, Audrey and Ivy were comfortable as usual, with a maid swatting by the low, marble stools while peeling the apple that they both wanted to have for brunch that afternoon."If I would admit, things have been so hard since Zoe left. Aaron barely knows how to wear his clothes properly because there is no one to place them in order for him, and I have bought two extravagantly expensive school uniforms in barely two weeks because those filthy maids used the wrong iron and burnt it!" Audrey gritted her teeth, as she narrated her forlorn to her closest person in the house even if they often bickered at one another. Her husband, who was the first son of the family was dead already three years ago, and she had been living comfortably with the family since she matched their standards perfectly. However, she had joined them to collectively put Zoe under the scrutiny of suffocation."Does she even have a family to fall back to? I wonder where she went back to after leaving," Ivy rolled her eyes in anger, as she sat back comfortably, and watched the other maid in the room give her foot a soft massage with medicinal oils because of how tired she was."That isn't good. I can see how weary everyone is looking in days just because they all have something they want, and only Zoe knows how to do it! I mean is she going to return to the countryside to her grandma and start another wretched life after refusing millions for alimony?" Audrey lamented bitterly under her teeth, and rolled her eyes because how how stressed she was at the thought of it."In the past, she let us just trample over her, and then she suddenly rejected that huge amount for alimony and left so abruptly. I wonder what she's thinking," Ivy speculated with a frown, as she harshly told the fragile and timid maid to change the color for the paint she was using again, yet the third time."What if she is ready to sell our family out to the media?" Audrey suddenly gasped at the thought that suddenly occurred to her, "What if she tells them everything she has seen here?""Malcolm wouldn't stay still. She knows him better than not to mess with him," Ivy retorted with pride in her voice as she spoke of her brother."Anyways, why does Isla seem not saying anything about Zoe's absence? She seems to even hate her the……….""Shhhh."Suddenly a cold chill blew across as the door to the living room parted slowly, and a daunting, but gorgeous lady sauntered into the room in gorgeous red blazers and black heels. They both tucked their lips in their mouths as soon as they saw Isla, whose cold gaze spoke nothing of a friendly demeanor as she walked past them. The sister-in-law and sister barely associated with her even if they ate together and saw one another often, because she was not so friendly with anyone in the mansion apart from her mother. She was just like her brother in terms of rigidness."Isla. Have you gotten your dress for the party Malcolm invited us to?" Ivy turned to ask her sister, so that the awkwardness that settled into the room the moment she entered would not be palpable."No," came Isla's curt reply. They both watched her climb the stairs and disappear from their sight before they heaved a sigh of relief."Have you gotten yours? I totally just remembered that the limited edition dress I ordered is not in stock anymore," Audrey panicked."Zoe is not around, so I obviously do not have a dress yet!" Ivy frowned instantly with an immediate switch in her capricious moods, as she stood up angrily and stormed away not minding that the maid was not yet done with her nails. She hated that everything sucked already without Zoe around.*•=•*…… --~`•`~--……*•=•* As the huge moon hung high in the night sky casting a glow over the chauffeur-driven luxurious cars rolled into the front of the gigantic structure carrying people of status and symbols that were invited to the grand ball of Sinclair's corporation. A beautiful and sleek midnight black Rolls-Royce led the way for the Meyers family, as it purred into the driveway and halted. In her most gorgeous flowing gown of purple which exuded elegance and grace, Irina, the matriarch of the Meyers family, radiated an aura of sophistication as she stepped out of the car after the chauffeur opened it. Isla stepped out with her afterward in a dazzling dress of similar colour, as they twinned their way in, so elegantly. The second luxurious car pulled in after the first, and Ivy stepped out with a vibrant smile wearing a gorgeous burgundy dress that clung to her petite frame and accentuated her figure. Her hair which was in curls bounced according to the direction of the silently, swirling wind, framing her beautiful face which was similar to that of her brother. Beside her was the gorgeous daughter-in-law of the house, Audrey in her own minimal, fishtail, buttercup dress, which matched the custom-made suit her son was wearing, as they all made their way into the ball party, exuding great wealth and opulence. The last car pulled in ostentatiously, carrying Malcolm Meyer, the most important guest of the family. With his striking chiseled features and impeccably styled appearance, he exuded an air of confidence and intimidation as he stepped out of the car, sending shivers down the spines of those who saw him.As other guests arrive afterward in chauffeur-driven limousines they are greeted by a red-carpeted entrance in the same way as the others, lined with private photographers, and videographers that were stationed to capture the glamour of the evening.Inside the luxurious ballroom, the atmosphere spoke of great enchantment and allure, as crystal and diamond chandeliers of ten, and twelve tiers, hung from the ceiling and shone brightly over the exquisitely decorated space.Every guest seamlessly blended into the midst of glamorous guests as they exchanged pleasantries and engaging conversations, which were mostly A-socialites, High-profile business-oriented celebrities, tycoons, and nobility. Their charm, elegance, and wealth were the embodiment of the extravagant lifestyle everyone in the room led.As the night progressed after an anniversary speech and appreciation, laughter echoed throughout the ballroom as it mingled with the melody of song played, the clicking of champagne flutes, and the preparations for Francis Sinclair, to introduce the heir to his trillion-dollar corporation before everyone since it was not known by anyone, who will take over as he had no family. There was anticipation in the air as everyone continued their hushed talks, waiting patiently in their hearts to know the person who would take over the trillion-dollar fortune of the Sinclairs. Plans on how to get acquitted with the person into winning favouritism would be the next thing on their minds. Through the spotlight in the gathering of hundreds of elites, a lady emerged and sauntered through the crowd in elegance with her every step exuding confidence and allure. A hush fell over the room as a spotlight illuminated the figure gracefully making her way toward the centre stage, Heads turned collectively to catch the shock that first occurred to them.'The heir was a female?!' They all wondered."I hereby announce Zoe Oliver, the only surviving granddaughter of Sinclair Francis, as the new heiress to the corporation."Draped in a flowing gown of shimmering black worth millions, she glided through the spotlight with her eyes sparkling with pride and glamour, and her lips painted in a deep shade of red curved to charm, as she was introduced as the Multi-Billionaire heiress of the Sinclair's."Oh my goodness! Isn't that Zoe?!" Ivy lost her elegance in astonishment and uttered in a voice loud enough for the entire family that were all in one space to hear all they all turned to look.Everyone was shocked!Hi, everyone. Thank you for reading. There will be a daily update of chapters:)
Everyone was charmed and impressed beyond their expectations to see the stunning female stand before them and give her speech as the new heiress, while the entire family of the Meyers was about to lose their minds as they tried to comprehend the scene. It was too much for them to bear and handle at once. They couldn't even fully grasp the shock. Their breath hitched collectively caught in their throats in a suspended moment of silence as if the shock had momentarily stolen the very sound of their voice, when they realized the reality of their ex-daughter-in-law standing before them, and was introduced to everyone. Audrey and Ivy clamped their palms over their lips with their eyes widened in disbelief, while Irina lost her footing as she froze with her muscles locked in a momentary paralysis. Only Malcolm and Isla remained comported irrespective of how they were feeling, while Aaron was too carried away by his video game to even realize the disorientation his family had been plunged
Every member of the Meyer family alighted from the luxurious car in front of their mansion after the party in the same way they went, and they all sauntered into the living room silently with so much silence that was stifled with heavy tension, through the grand double doors of their opulent mansion which swung open. The family's footsteps echoed on the marble floors with their heels and shoes clicking rhythmically, with the force under their feet evident as they made their way in, each stride a confirmation of the restless anger coursing through their veins. "Do you all believe what you just witnessed at that banquet?!" Ivy, who never took her time to speak her mind among everyone in the family, suddenly lashed out as soon as they all got to the living room."Is it even possible for someone to suddenly change within two weeks, and go from being a wretched lady from the countryside to the heiress to the Sinclair wealth?! Can you even comprehend the possibility?!" She continued with a
In the hushed ambiance of the standard luxurious suite where soft rays of blocked sunlight filtered through the deluxe curtains into the room, Zoe lay in a peaceful repose on the plush bed, sprawled tiredly on every part of the bed. The soft sheets cradled her body into a gentle sensation of warmth and comfort, with her head buried into the huge pillows that decorated the bed in an opulent decor. And for hours since dawn, her eyes had been wide open and staring at the white ceiling. She couldn't sleep further no matter how she tried. The distant hum of the air conditioner was the only thing that she could hear in the deep silence that settled in her room, and it wasn't like the way she had lived her life in the past two years with constant buzziness. She tossed endlessly to the other side of her bed and shut her eyes tightly to find some sleep, but nothing was helping matters even if she tried and wished. Her sleeping pattern had become haphazard ever since she got married to Malco
Though Zoe had planned the day to take a peace check and go out to have fun by herself, Francis Sinclair had called unexpectedly and demanded a brief audience from her as soon as she was about to leave the spa. She strode elegantly out of the spa a few minutes after Audrey and Ivy had seen her, leaving them aghast and battered by intense guilt and fear of the most unexpected thing that could happen to them. The feeling of having to see them shocked beyond their bones at the sight of her, made a satisfactory smirk cross her lips as she sat back in the car that drove her away from the building. But first, that was the most basic because it was an encounter she least expected. Dealing with her grandfather, whom she just got to familiarize with for lunch, was another hassle. The old man was too obnoxious and unnecessary. "You are late," Francis pointed out as Zoe sauntered in and took her seat elegantly in the chair opposite him. "I'm sorry for that. My location was quite far when y
"Are you joking now?! I cannot enter here because someone has booked the mall for two hours?!" Dafne Brown raged angrily, as she stood in front of one of the largest malls in the city to be the first to get the limited edition heels that just came in that afternoon. She couldn't believe that she would be treated in that manner, just because of some simpleton that wanted to show off their wealth. 'Who was the person?!'Zoe was still contemplating what to buy amongst the numerous designer heels that she was looking at, when she heard the loud voice raging from the grand door that led to the section. As soon as she was about to turn her eyes away, she watched some tall lady force her way classlessly into the room. "Who are you and what gives you the right to close up this store as you please?!" She frained imperiously, as her eyes shot out lasers of dagger towards Zoe's direction. Zoe turned her eyes to look at the person talking, and it turned out to be the person who humiliated her
On seeing the most unexpected man about to enter the elevator that Zoe was just coming out of, time seemed to slow down as their gazes met, and at that moment, memories both bitter and sweet flooded her mind. Her eyes, which were once filled with love and vulnerability, held a glint of restrained fury, with every fibre of her yearning to unleash the pent-up frustration and resentment in her. But she remained composed with a stoic expression, hiding the tempest of emotions raging within her as confidence surged from nowhere in her body. Not knowing how to react to such an infuriating situation of suddenly seeing him, she decided to ignore him the same way they always did even when they were living together. 'Afterall. They rarely spoke to one another in the past.' "People are looking around desperately to see you make a mistake and put it out for the whole world to see," she remembered Francis' words to her. She didn't even need the words anyway. She already knew that she could n
A black, sleek car glided to a graceful halt in front of the huge ANCLAIR corporation, and the bustling reporters that were hanging around all day for the entrance immediately swarmed around, their cameras flashing brightly in anticipation to capture the sight of the lady they were waiting for. She was nervous about facing such a spotlight which she had never had the chance to ever be in her life. It felt so overwhelming to know that she, who was always someone of no significance to other people, was being sorted by many. Gary had told her that there had been so many emails being sent to the CEO's seat to those that had private email for the CEO's table, ever since her being named the heiress. The chauffeur that had gone to pick her up that morning in a different car, stepped out of the car, and walked up to the right side of the car where Zoe was sitting. He opened the door to prepare her for what was next. "Ready, ma'am?" He asked her, blocking the bright flashes of the camera fro
"Should we just release the news about how she was treated here? Tell the truth that she's been hired by Francis Sinclair and that her family lives in the poor countryside," Ivy blurted out suddenly, the moment she thought of what they could do to have Zoe wrapped around their fingers. They were eating breakfast at their private dining, and it was just the same old lame food they had to manage after hiring numerous chefs in just two weeks. The taste of the food had never been the same, and the service could never be the same either, if they wanted to have breakfast at their usual early hours. Most times, Audrey had to agree to eat the same food as Ivy, while Irina and Isla ate the same meal. Aaron had no choice but to eat whatever he was served too, and had to wear his clothes regardless of how the maids had ironed them. He didn't like the new way of things, and he missed Zoe's way of doing his things so much, even if he could never speak of it. "We would just say she was a maid, no
It was late in the night already, and Dylan was just driving Zoe back home. She sat in the back seat and slouched her back comfortably against the leather chair, with her neck hanging sideways against the closed window in the most elegant way ever. Somehow, she was trying not to think of it earlier. She was trying not to think of having to sit before Andre in her office, and talk so casually. It reminded her of Audrey. It reminded her of the woman whose dreams were stolen, and a woman whom somehow no one seemed to remember. It made her heart ache that even her husband seemed to have no ounce of sadness for her death. His expression turned even colder at the mention of her name. As much as Zoe tried to push the thoughts and triggering insinuations that kept creeping into her mind because of the silent investigations she had been doing, she couldn't help but remember what Audrey told her. That someone had threatened her after her encounter with Marcel, and sent an anonymous message
Despite the seeping feeling of cold air into the atmosphere in the office of the CEO of the RINASHONE art gallery, it did nothing to ease the storm that was brewing in Isla's heart, who sat slouched against her chair. Her eyes which had been narrowed by a disdainful glare stared again at the chart that was before her, and she could not help but scrunch up her face the more she read those numbers before her. ‘Ridiculous!’ She almost scoffed, ‘The gallery’s earnings for the month were barely enough. Barely enough!’ her eyes glanced through the pile of invoices again, and then glared at the final figure. “This is not good. Not nearly enough,” she muttered spitefully, the more she thought of her debts which loomed over her like a noose. The ones that had given her sleepless nights because somehow there was nowhere she could have pulled the funds from. Isla leaned back in her chair and gritted her teeth angrily, thinking of how the numbers were still low with the exhibition they held an
The bright lights of the city shone against the tinted windows of the car that drove through the highways of the city, but it didn't do anything to catch the attention of the man who sat back in the backseat of his luxurious car, while rubbing his temples absently with one another. As he remained mute without uttering anything all through the journey back home which was unlike his usual self, his mind momentarily flashed back to the event that happened earlier that day, as he steamed with the remnant of his frustration. It was the second time he had a face-to-face conversation with her. He had stormed into her mall straight from work with his pulse hammering with frustration without even thinking too much about it, the moment he realized that yet again, there was no reply. He was so pissed. For days, she had ignored his email. And when he was told that she asked him to be let inside at once, he was quite taken. He had expected that she would prove so difficult so that he would be ab
Her shortcomings. That had been her concern all afternoon. Not the great news Hepzy went back and forth about. Rather than the joy and excitement that usually came with it, she just felt relieved. Relieved that she was doing well. She wasn't happy about it. There was nothing to be joyful about. As she sat at her desk surrounded by neatly stacked reports and a laptop screen glowing with financial projections before her, the numbers stared back at her. Poor and unproductive in her dictionary. As much as it looked impossible, she had always aimed for every venture she had mapped out in the mall. It wasn't just a mall. It was an empire. The one that billions had been finished off on, and it would end up swallowing more if poured into it. Pulling off something that huge had taken so much willpower and mental strength even if every social psychology quotient of hers was always fluctuating. The ice skating rink and the luxury car exhibition space were doing the lowest. 8% returns was all
The faint aroma of herbal tea lingered in the air of the office, where Zoe sat uprightly behind her table, with her poised demeanor betraying no sign of the turmoil that had lingered over her for the past few days even till the night before.Across from her, Zara, who was holding a notepad clutched to her chest, continued to stare at her so overtly, while wondering what kind of woman she was. “You have been watching me like a hawk,” Zoe, whose gaze was fixated on what she was looking at on the tablet that was before her, “Spill it.”Zara hesitated before speaking, as she stared at her, with a concerned expression, “I don't want you to say I bother too much, but I really cannot help but be so worried. I mean you suddenly made me book a flight after the launching, and then left. You came back and told no one. You came in looking so sick and pale, and now you are doing so much work already. You are asking if things you've never……..”“Can you catch your breath, Zara?” Zoe cut her off ins
It was so dark in the night already, and barely anything could be heard around the estate anymore except the branches of trees moving in the movement of the wind, and the sound of crickets that buzzed amidst the gardens that were around. Malcolm was seen returning to Zoe's house after he had left many minutes ago, with big bags in his hands as he made his way to the front of her mansion. Slipping in through the front door now that he knew its password, he stepped in casually and locked the door behind it. Since he left the other inner door that led to the living room open without closing it when he left earlier, it was easier to just enter on tiptoe without disrupting her. Catching a sight of her still sleeping on the couch in her living room, he dropped the bag he was carrying on the cold, marbled floor, and walked over to her side to feel her temperature. He noticed that she was still burning with a fever. Carefully, Malcolm carried her the same way he had done the previous day,
Malcolm had stood by the window of his mansion all evening after returning from work, with his fingers tapping idly at the corners of it which he had never noticed before, but was as sparkly as ever because the cleaning services that usually cleaned his house were perfect at their job. His eyes had fixed on the road outside as he waited restlessly, with his thoughts sinking into a tangled mess of concern and yearning for the woman he had been bothered about more than ever all day because of the articles that were published. And just at the moment when his eyes caught the sight of a car which rolled into view and drove past his mansion, his heart skipped in relief, before he instantly turned away from the window and hurried out. ‘She was back.’He walked fast, and even almost ran, hoping that he would be able to still meet her outside before she entered her house. In the opposite direction, her car drove past him as he walked, and he didn't even mind anything apart from her. His ey
“Please can you listen to me first?” Zoe instantly stood up from her seat and stepped forward in desperation, as her fingers curled slightly the moment she stretched her hand in an attempt to reach her, but dared not touch. Upon hearing her voice laced with desperation and a hint of something she couldn't make out, Jasmine halted on her steps, before she turned her face sharply. A sharp, bitter laugh escaped her lips, as she stared at Zoe's face, with a surfeit amount of emotions rushing through her at once, causing her to almost stumble on words, “If you are here to ask me about us, then I have nothing to say,” her voice trembled, “Did she say anything about me? Did she ask you to meet me? Her eyes burned with so much pain. With a heavy heart, Zoe spoke, unable to meet her eyes, “I am more interested in your side of the story, not Emily's,” she clarified.“What?” Jasmine's brow jumped in a high arch of astonishment, as she tried to make out the meaning of what she was saying, “Wha
An unease settled in Malcolm Meyer’s chest as he leaned back in his office chair, with his left fingers idly tapping against the polished wood of his desk, while his right hand incessantly tugged at the collar of his shirt that continued to feel clammy against his skin. He had barely slept the night before because sleep evaded him, and as a result of anxiety which clung to the darkest corners of his mind that were entangled in the thoughts of her. When he arrived home the day before earlier than he usually did because he was bothered, and hoped that Zoe would be home by then already, he noticed that the lights to her mansion had been off. It was not the usual ‘one’ light on, and the rest ‘off’ he usually noticed whenever he was home before he even knew she lived there. This time, it was completely off. There was darkness everywhere around her mansion, and it was unlike her. ‘Had she even come home at all?’ He wondered endlessly in his heart, seriously bothered that he didn't see h
